Installed over the range microwave with fan hood and light. First year, the lower bulb BLEW UP!! Like a gun shot, scared us. Had a tech come out to remove the lamp base. Another year, blew out a bulb, Replaced it, then blew out that one, then replaced again then the bulb would stay on, ignoring commands from front panel button. Tech had to replace computer type control board, took a while to get one though. Now it blows out a light, replaced it, within hours blew out another bulb, replaced it too. Now back to old problem of light stays on on high. Customer service will now repair for free. Trying to get me to buy an expensive extended warranty that would cost $400 a year. I told them I would not buy Maytag again, EVER. I hate these people and their incompetent and disgusting products.

Purchased Feb 2021. 1 month light blew. They replaced it and it blew again. 3x Replaced bulb light switch. No longer worked. Unscrewed bulb to turn off. Now in Dec. 2023 unit no longer heats. So much for 10 yr limited warranty. Service call $139. New microwave $199.

I bought a new microwave as a Christmas gift to us. It was broken before it was two weeks old. It took over a month to get service on the warranty (we have both extended and regular warranty on this at the time less than 30 day old microwave) and when we got said service, it needed a part. I was told 2 weeks to order a part. It has now been 48 days. So the microwave I got for Christmas has been out of operation for longer than it actually worked. They are clearly trying to throw as many hoops and obstacles to prevent customers from using their warranty in the hopes that they pay for service and parts out of pocket. I will never buy Maytag again. They used to be a quality company, but something has changed.

4 year old Maytag over the range microwave lightbulb popped when turned on. The lightbulb blew out, right out of the base of the light! So I replaced the bulb, & now light will not turn off. **!! There are multiple complaints of this very issue and 99% of all my investigation on this points to replacing the control board ($278.00) to fix. For a blown lightbulb? That fix is more than the microwave itself, and then I have to pay to have it installed? Arghhh!! It's a lightbulb!! Customer service? Pretty much non-existent, and insincere apologies. With all the complaints I have read about Maytag products, a class action suit should be initiated. DO NOT BUY MAYTAG (now Whirlpool).

I ordered parts for Maytag because that’s what they told me they needed to fix my lightbulb that did not work, and when I went to return the parts, they would not give me my money back. Very aggravating.

I purchased an over the range microwave (OTR), boxing day 2018. It failed January 2021. It worked great before failing. The issue with Maytag/Whirlpool is their service. I told them before they came out that I was only interested in having it fixed if it could be done that day. They checked that they had the parts and said they could do it, so I moved forward with the appointment. Well they didn't fix it, and said that they need to order a part, which they said would take several weeks. They are trying to bill me the service fee $167, and expect me to wait a month or possibly more to get the part and fix the microwave. Now I'm faced with having to pay a service fee for something not fixed and buying a new microwave. Lesson: Never try to repair, cheaper to buy a new product. Other lesson, never buy Maytag or Whirlpool product again. Despite what is on their website and advertising, they have terrible customer service.

It's unfortunate that Maytag expects their products to be so short lived, they won't produce parts for their appliances after 7 years. They just told me they are only required by law to make parts for their products for 7 years so that's what they do. So unfortunately, if your microwave outlives its handle, you're going to have to replace the entire appliance which will cost me almost $500. I will never buy another Maytag or Whirlpool products because of this.

Purchased an over the cooktop microwave 3 years ago, it came with a 20 year warranty. It stopped working and I promptly emailed Maytag customer service. It took them over 3 weeks before they responded. That is not acceptable. Did they think I had a back-up microwave to take its place until they finally got around to reply to me? Well we could not wait, and we just threw that piece of junk out and had it replaced with a competitor's unit. We will never buy Maytag again and will inform anyone we know about the poor operation of Maytag products and lousy customer service. My suggestion to anyone considering Maytag products is to not waste your time and money and look to another manufacturer.

Maytag appliances just hold up. I have an 'over the stove' vented Microwave and I just love it. Hard to find white with a metal door pull. If there were something I'd change about the design, it would be to find a better trim material that stays white and not goes to slightly yellow. Same with the dishwasher (Maytag). Love my Maytag appliances.. Never let me down.

I purchased this microwave for its looks, but really like how it works. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 score is because the control panel is not user friendly. It is not loud at all (while it’s running), in fact I sometimes forget (I’ll get busy doing something else) that I put something in there until the buzzer goes off and it has a reminder buzzer too if you don’t remove your food. Clean up is easy. Not a lot of spaces inside for splashed on food to get caught it.

The only complaint is the lights on the bottom quit working about a month after we purchased. It was nice to light up the stovetop when cooking. Now it’s slightly dark. I have gotten used to this. We spent about $8000 on all the matching Maytag appliances we purchased. I would love to replace all but not in the budget. I am a dissatisfied Maytag customer.

Called about our upteenth issue with our Maytag microwave. Was told the part was covered but we would have to pay for service. The last tech told us how to wiggle the part to make it work. Paid a fortune and it broke again. They do not care about customers!!

Like all of the other reviews, I have had this microwave less than two years and it won’t run and reads “door open”. I am filing with the Better Business Bureau as the product advertises “partS” under 10 year under warranty when in reality it is one part with a VERY limited warranty. In order to determine if my issue was covered under warranty I would need to pay $189 not including parts in labor. I called several times and customer service indicated that they had never heard of this issue (which upon looking at this site seems hard to believe) and I would need to gamble the $189 to see if it was covered. Terrible product, terrible customer service.

All my kitchen appliances are from Maytag, however I would highly recommend buying the extended warranty for any appliance you buy. Maytag is not helpful to customers when it comes to repairs. They will recommend you their authorized companies which here in Colorado Springs are the one with the worse review and already knowing the the repair will cost more than the cost of a new one. You will have to be available 5 hours of your day and spend $110 for a guy to come to your house and tell you that the repair will cost more than a new one. Oh and if your microwave is a 2.0 CU like mine you will have to pay $300 plus in double labor because your microwave will require two people to take it down from the kitchen cabinet.

I just bought a brand new Maytag microwave a few weeks ago. The door is already broken! I’ve been sitting here 4 hours! waiting for a repairman man. No call, no show! I am missing work and gym time because MAYTAG sold me a faulty microwave in the first place! Never again will I buy Maytag products!

My Maytag over the range microwave has given me nothing but troubles since my purchase. The turntable off feature never worked, and now the side control panel is barely hanging on because of broken plastic connectors. The handle is now broken in half. I will never purchase another Maytag product. Buyer beware.

My microwave will not work when the door is shut. It says: Door open. It’s worked intermittently, doing this for about two weeks. Then my husband woke up one morning a week ago and the microwave was on like it was running, light on but the plate was not turning. So we’ve had to unplug it and do without during thanksgiving weekend. This seems to be a common issue, obviously from the reviews below, so shame on you Maytag for not owning up and doing the right thing, covering repairs or sending out a recall. It’s a $112 service call here locally plus parts and labor. I will certainly be telling others not to go with Maytag. Maytag is lucky- it turning on by itself AT NIGHT, WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING, that it did not cause a fire or something. I’m pretty upset that it’s inside a 2.5 year window and already has issues.

Our Maytag microwave MMV4205FZ-0 has the same ubiquitous problem as so many reviewers have mentioned. The microwave refuses to turn on (always at the most inopportune moments--like when the entire family is over for dinner. It doesn't matter how many times you open and close the door, it will often refuse to start. I think the worst part about this situation is that there are so many reviewers experiencing the exact same problem. Imagine how many haven't posted a review. Doesn't it seem as though a rethinking of the door switch would have been in order long ago along with a recall? The fact that hasn't happened after so long and so many customers who are disappointed in their purchase is a sad commentary.

We bought this from our local big box retailer paying $433.87 after installation, the oven, haul away and home delivery. Two years and 3 months later it's a boat anchor. Display is cold and dark after stating we needed to open and close the door before it would heat. We did but it kept displaying the same message. Unplugged it, turned circuit off per Maytag customer service line, still nothing. It is no longer made and you can't get parts. It is useless. The 10 year warranty just covers the magnet and the cavity.

The microwave does everything I need and want it to do perfectly. It has never needed to be repaired or replaced in five years. We bought it on sale from Best Buy and consider it one of the best bargains we have ever made. Easy to operate, easy to clean, sleek and, for an appliance, quite personable. I find it refreshing to say something nice about an inanimate object.

We were offered a Maytag microwave with our newly built home two years ago. I do not know if it was a good value for the money compared to other brands as I did not price or feature shop for this oven. But the oven has worked well since we moved in.

I have enjoyed my microwave and it has lasted 10 years so far. The only problem I have had is the handle coming off but I clip it back on. Also I changed the bulb. The microwave is over the stove and matched the rest of my appliances. Basically, I would recommend Maytag for any appliances that a person would need to buy.

It’s a nice look to your kitchen first, and an easy clean. Works great for heating up stuff in a hurry and makes popcorn perfect on the popcorn button. Does ok at melting things. I have been happy with mine for 3 yrs so far.

It has all the features we like and use every day. Timer, lights, fan, built-in Above stove, use minutes or preprogrammed Turntable, quiet, white in color, easy cleaning. Easy to replace filter and light.

This microwave doesn't rotate in use, it only goes back and forth...not as good! I believe the rotating type of microwaves heat your food more evenly, but it might just be a personal preference. I would NOT recommend this type of microwave.

It seems to be a broken record with other reviews. I had a 2 year old microwave and the door doesn't recognize that it's closed. Which means it won't turn on when I close the door. So you have to open and close it maybe 30-50 times and sometimes it works. I call Maytag who schedules a company but doesn't disclose anything about the warranty or service cost. I was thinking it would be a nominal fee since it falls under a 10 year warranty. The company calls and confirms the cost and I recheck with Maytag who said that the warranty only covers parts. So I buy a $300 microwave and have to pay $160 for a service visit because your company made inferior parts. Absolute sham of a company. Buyer Beware...

Purchased this Maytag microwave brand new on April 2017. In January 2019 began to have issues with the display reading open/close door. Maytag would send a repairman for $160 to take a look at the problem. Parts of course are extra. I will never buy a Maytag product again.

We loved the YMMV4206 microwave - at first. After the warranty was over, we started having issues where we would put the food in the microwave and try to enter the time, we'd get the message to "open door and close door". We'd try that and for the next few months it would work. At the 18 month mark, that's all it would do, was tell us to "open/close door". We ended up unplugging it and it has been unusable since before Christmas. When I call Maytag and related to the support staff our problem, they were of the attitude that it is out of warranty and we can send someone out to take a look at it - for $130 + HST without even repairing it, that would be to "diagnose" the problem that we already know, then we would have to wait for them to order the part and come back. Do Not Buy this product.

Bought this Maytag microwave mmv 4205ds March 2016. Have had open/close problems five times in 3 years. Unit replaced under warranty once. Now out of warranty. No need to mention inconveniences we’ve been through. Whirlpool-Maytag obviously have done nothing to correct this problem. I will never buy any of their product again. Wanted to give them ‘0’ stars but program won’t allow me.

No didn't unplug first. Previous microwave didn't have a problem with this. Instructions are useless. Didn't say to unplug and doesn't provide a model number for the bulb. Consequently, we have now purchased 5 different bulbs and they don't work. Tested socket and power is going to it. Rep at Ace Hardware said he had heard about this happening several times and provided what was to be the correct bulb -- didn't work.

I purchased my microwave in 2012 and have had to have numerous repairs, mostly with the open/close door switch error. It is now 2018 and I see that the same problem is still occurring! Maytag obviously hasn’t read or doesn’t care that this problem has existed for years and they choose to do nothing about it. This past week when I had the microwave running, the beep went off indicating the popcorn was done but when I opened the door the microwave was STILL running! I thought it was a fluke but it happened again. Tonight the open/close door error once again appeared on the display. Having already had this repaired to the tune of over $150, not to mention the danger of a microwave running when the door is open, I called a mayday on the Maytag! I decided enough is enough and went out and purchased a new microwave... Obviously NOT a Maytag. The dangerous inoperable Maytag microwave is in the garage waiting for trash pickup.

door switch replacements which were also faulty, I can only contact Lowe's to urge them to discontinue selling Maytag Microwaves. I will also search the internet to see if I can replace the door switch myself. Nothing to lose.

Keep having the problem, the display panel tells me to close the door when the door is closed. I had a repairman repair it. 2 months later it started happening again. I'm buy another microwave. It doesn't make sense to have it fixed again.

My Maytag microwave caught fire and burned our cabinets and wall. We had just arrived home from vacation and our fire alarm went off. No one was using the microwave at the time, it just caught fire. We put the fire out with the extinguisher and called the fire department. Our wall and cabinet are charred and our house smells of burnt plastic and is covered with the residue from the extinguisher. Maytag sent a technician to investigate the microwave and, just like the fire department, determined that the cause was internal within the microwave.

I will never buy another Maytag product again. Like all of the people on here, I am having problems with the door switch. We try to reheat a plate or beverage setting the length of time, hit start and it tells us to open the door and close and hit a number and nothing happens. Try to reset the clock and factory reset and nothing happens. I still have 3 months on the warranty but it sounds like Maytag will have an excuse not to fix it. Never again.

Our Maytag microwave, which we bought based on Maytag's supposed quality, is nothing but a piece of junk. In two years it has had or needs repairs that nearly double the original cost! That's ridiculous. We are done with Maytag and are not going to get suckered into their Whirlpool/KitchenAid or other brands. So long.

Within 1 month Maytag sent 2 repairmen to repair my microwave. I paid $271.20 for the repair and part. The same 2 parts used the first 2 times were ordered again and I was told that Maytag could not get them again. The service and parts are supposed to be guaranteed for 3 months. Maytag refuses to refund me; offering me 15% off a new purchase. I would not buy from Maytag. They lost a customer.

I purchased a new Maytag microwave from Lowe's barely two years ago. The inner door frame is coming apart which makes the handle to open slack which means the microwave does not operate correctly because you have to open & close several times. I called Maytag. They said the one year warranty is over. Furthermore one of their authorize dealers want $200 for labor, parts is separate. I said I can purchase a new microwave for less which I intend to do but never MAYTAG again.

I've had my Maytag (above range model) for about 4 months. The same as everyone else with open/close door error. Faulty door switch. When the interior light doesn't come on, I know I will get the error. You would think Maytag would have already repaired or replaced this door switch part.

Purchased the Maytag MMV405DS Microwave and matching refrigerator from Best Buy in 2016, they were exactly what we had been looking for. Little did we know of the problems we would have with the microwave. At the one year mark the infamous open/close door problem begin. Luckily we were still within the warranty period since it was repaired at no charge. However six month later the problem re-occurred, we are now out of warranty and have little recourse. Maytag should have by now have come up with a fix. I find it hard to believe they are still manufacturing this microwave and selling this product knowing it will fail. We have little choice but to replace it with another brand which will not match. Suggest anyone looking for appliances stay away from Maytag.
