Marathon Security System

Corona, CA

Simon of Fullerton CA (7/15/03):
When we purchased the home it came with the Security system. The company in question came and signed us up for the service. After a short time of false alarms we asked for the company to cancel the service, which they did. At that time we were advised that we are locked in for 5 years and that we needed to pay $1200 to cancel. We have been told that this matter has gone to collection and will affect our credit.

Since we don't want our credit to be effected we have agreed to reinstate the service, at which point we were told that we have to pay an additional fee for the collection of $400. I think the company Marathon Security System is trying to rip us off and we are in need of help. Could you please advise us of our rights and anything we can do. Further more we really have no need for their service and would like to get out of the contract.

Simon says the company "signed us up." If he means that he signed a contract, he will have to abide by its provisions.
