Magic Chef

Edward of Cave Creek, AZ May 26, 2009

Bought a Magic Chef ( Molded Steel Logo on Front and back) was bought 1 year ago - It can not heat a single potato without over heating and shutting down ( Will reset after 15 min) I had a Tech out 5 months ago and said theres nothing wrong, I need to cook one at a time, in a third party Microwave prrof dish. He left, It didn't work.

I called back a month later and I get the answer, Wrap it in Papertowel before cooking. I asked if she was joking and she got rude. Also refused to work on the unit after 7 min of going over the issues, Serial number and model number. "Theres nothing wrong with these units" The Magic Chef units are all over the web about catching fire and or shutting down. I bought one for my parents also (80years old) and now I'm worried ! After 6 mins it smells like its burning - Too hot to even touch the outside and shuts down. Google shows LOTS of similar issues. Magic Chef / MS Appliance denies everything. HELP

Purchased a Magic Chef microwave less than a year ago, microwave is shutting off for no reason. 400 something dollars for microwave and a 100 to have it installed.

Microwave Oven Model#MCO153UW, it's a microhood (with exhaust, mounted over the stove/oven) Purchased at HomeDepot December 2005.

Last 4 months it just 'dies', I can't even warm water. When set to cook, it turns off (as though the plug was pulled, no electrical) after 2 minutes or so, then takes over 30 minutes to 'reset' itself to being on. this happens on every type setting/program. Now at 400 I would have expected this to have lasted longer, our countertop models lasted over 8 years (NOT MagicChef!)!

I should have suspected something sooner, the nightlight had been blowing bulbs every other week within a year of purchase, I just gave up using it (bulbs are 5.00 each, takes 2). We only had the nightlight on overnight about 5 hours. We even tested the circuits...no problem there, it's the microwave itself.

I bought a Emerson microwave in 2007, it died exactly one year and two months later. Yesterday the Magic Chef Microwave I replaced it with died exactly one year and two months later. Do they deliberatley make them to last just over a year? I am very disgusted, don't know what brand to donate my money to next. Thanks for listening. Robin

4/30/09 My family had been gone for 4 hours. When we got home our microwave (Magic Chef Model #MC0160) had turned itself on. We have unplugged it and I refuse to plug it back in, if fear of fire. 5/1/09 11:30a I called the Magic Chef 800 number, then the girl that answered said "MC Appliance." I was expaining what had happened the night before, and before I finished, she questioned that it had turned itself on. She said she would send a service repair person as soon as I would fax a copy of my receipt, and that she could have someone here at my home in 1 to 2 days.

I am waiting for her phone call back, and was looking on the internet to find out (very much to my surprise) that others have experienced this same thing. We are a young, busy family and use our microwave very often, making this a large inconvenience. I am going to get in contact with Home Depot, and if I do not here from Magic Chef by the end of the day I will be calling them back, because there is an obvious problem with this product.

On December 10,2008 our magic chef (dorm room type) refridgerator caught on fire and destroyed our start-up company office. It took the local fire department and the United States Consumer product safety commission a couple of months to investigate and issue a report on the fire and the cause of the fire at the above address. the Magic Chef refridgerator was the cause. Home Deport: We don't warranty it: you have to call Magic Chef. Magic Chef: We don't make it, we license MC Appliance. MC Appliance: 8 long weeks of waiting and calling and faxing information every two weeks get someone different. Finally, I call Magic Chef and in shear despairation a customer service person finally get's me to the voice mail of the general Council of MC Appliance. After a very heated message the next day the General Council says he has sent my file to the insurance for them to pay the claim. CNA insurance Company: They seem like they new what they were doing after a few weeks I get a call and am informed that the adjuster has been assigned and will be in contact. Afew weeks later the adjust has done his due diligence and informs me that he has sent the paperwork back to the office for payment and I should be getting a check within a few days. CNA Insurance: After a week and half sometimes 2 calls per day to check to see if the check is in the mail, ( i must of been dreaming). I get a call form Vicki and she inform me she just found out that the refridgerator was made in China and that MC Appliance is just he distributor and that I would have to contact the manufacture--- I stop her and said that I told the General Council that I didn't want to get an attorney back in February; however, If I didn't see a check by Thursday ( two more days) I was going to get one. I don't want to have to get an attorney, I have a legal document that says their refridgerator caused the fire, it was 8 days old. When are companies in the US going to start doing the right thing without being sued. We aren't talking about a huge amount of money either.

Microwave is Model#MCB78OW. It has been working sporadically. It began starting without any human input. The last time it started independently it ran completely empty until you could smell the burning crumbs and it set off our smoke alarm. It was too hot to touch.

We bought this microwave oven from Home Depot about 1.5 years ago approx. We have started having problems with the paint peeling off in sheets in the interior of the microwave. Also, it would shut itself off when in use or not and it had the 88888 in the screen. I think this is a hazard.

I had to go out and buy another microwave. I think that we should receive monetary compensation as it wasn't that old.
