Lisa of Salem, NH September 22, 2009 We had purchased a 10 cu fridge in 2005. That one failed. We then went out and purchased another one in June 2008. That one has now failed. The compressor is gone. you get 5 years on the conmpressor, but only if it happens within the 1 year???? HUH? What kind of business are they running? Are they not concerned about what customers have to say espically in this economy. I myself am going to write to every negative web site i can find on them. Oh and by the way, why is there no place on the web site to contact them? Michele of Tamarac, FL September 13, 2009 Magic Chef Over the Stove Microwave Oven - Turns on by itself..becomes very hot to touch. Stops working in the middle of a program cook cycle. Clock rests frequently. I have had to disable this microwave for fear it will turn on while I am away from home and start a fire. Home Depot will not return the item and Magic Chef will not service it as they state "we just label this microwave...we do not manufacture it." James of Richmond, VA September 12, 2009 After researching the recalls, we discovered that many people have had the same problem with their over the range microwave - it turns itself on. There are numerous complaints logged in on line. Many of these people have contacted both Magic Chef (and got a run-around) and the stores where they purchased the microwave (Lowes or Home Depot). Neither has done anything to help. At the minimum, it should be recalled before people die. Unless we had unplugged ours (after several replugs), it could easily turn on and catch on fire. Camille of Sandy, UT August 24, 2009 I bought this over the range microwave at Lowes Thanksgiving weekend 2007. It wasn't installed until about April of 2008. I used it for about 6 months before it started turning itself on. We would be in another room and hear it turn on. Walk in and it had started itself on the popcorn setting. Also, any time I would cook anything on the stove that produced steam the entire control panel on the microwave would because unusable. It would totally freeze up whether it was in use or not. I couldn't cancel, start, nothing! I would just have to unplug it. We finally just unplugged the microwave and only plugged it in when we had to until we could afford to replace it. When we removed it from the wall there were burn marks everywhere that there had been holes in the mounting bracket. CRAZY! I cannot believe this product has not been recalled. Neither Lowes nor Magic Chef would help me (despite the fact that it was still under warranty). I was tossed back and forth and finally gave up after dozens of unreturned phone calls. Selling a faulty product is bad enough, but selling products that put people and families in danger is absolutely inexcusable and that is exactly what they are doing here. Something has to be done about this! Kristin of Newberg, OR August 9, 2009 I have owned the Magic Chef Microwave purchased from Home Depot for about 2-1/2 years. It is used minimally, approximately 2-3 times a month. And now it is not working. When I called Magic Chef, I was told that they do not service this microwave (MCD990SC) because they don't make it, they only put their name on it. It seems from other complaints that it is common for Magic Chef to not stand behind their name. I'm positive it will cost more to fix it than to purchase a new, non-Magic Chef microwave so against all my wishes, this one will go into the dump. I suggest not buying Magic Chef as they will not stand behind products with their name on them. Sephton of Punta Gorda, FL August 8, 2009 'A week ago (week ending 7/31/2009 my microwave began turning itself on and off. This action has been happening since. I had my daughter go online to find where I can call to check on my warranty and she ran across many testimonials about fires occuring the same products made by Magic Chef. I have only had my icrowave for 2 - 3 years, and it was purchased at a home depot in the area in which I live. I would like the microwave either replaced or repaired at no cost to me, and I would like the manufacturer to recall the 'Over The Range Microwave'. Elizabeth of Niskayuna, NY July 28, 2009 Microwave began turning itself on. Came home microwave was on fire. I don't have a microwave anymore, and I've been offered from Magic Chef to have someone to take a look at the unit at my own expense they will charge me for the visit! Also,is very likely that if had been a bit latter arriving home my entire home would have caught on fire! Hans of Springfield, VA June 29, 2009 Bought a new over the stove Magic Chef microwave. After about 3 months it started the hood fan by itself and a few days later it stopped working, and after pulling the plug and reenergizing it started by itself. I noticed it is sensitive for heat and steam from the stove under it. I decided to take it apart and found everything working except the computer board. This board is exposed to the hot and humid air over the stove, and its circuitry is completely not covered with anything to protect it. A really bad design. It should have been dipped in lacquer to protect it from the hot air which is blasting over the board, even worse when the fan is working. Richard of Stony Point, NY June 9, 2009 Woke up at 5am with smelling smoke and could see the house was filling up with smoke. Awoke my wife and told her to grab her purse and leave the house. Called 911 and the fire deapartment came and they immediately agreed something was burning and they were searching the house believing there's was an electrical fire starting in the walls. After 15 minutes using heat cameras it was the Magic Chef Microwave purchased at Home Deopt about 1 1/2 years ago. One of the fireman grabbed it with gloved hands and threw it out in the front yard. This thing for whatever reason started by itself and what's more alarming the GFI nor the breaker shut off which means the problem was taking place after the unit's power supply. Called Magic Chef and received the runaround. The fire company wrote down the model and info about the unit along with its malfunction and are submitting it to somplace, I don't recall. The house smelled of smoke for three days plus loss of the unit. I saved the unit so it can be investigated.
