Last Monday, I noticed a strong electrical burning smell in the kitchen. After investigating, I found it was coming from the refrigerator. When I opened it up, the plastic cover for the lights was lying on the glass shelf. I attempted to pick it up, but it was too hot to touch. I immediately called LG. They told me that there was a problem with the lights in the fridge and to unplug it. They would send a service tech to fix it, even gave me the name of the company they would send. Two days later, no tech. Called again, and LG said they would not cover this problem, my extended warranty would.

Called Home Depot extended warranty dept, they said no way they would cover this. This was LG's problem, and they knew it! Back on the phone to LG, they are having me jump thru series of hoops, and as of today, the fridge is still not fixed. I asked LG if they wanted the house to burn down and have my insurance compay subrogate against them? I don't think the tech support person understood what I was talking about. Terrible custome service so far!!

I purchased an LG French Door refrigerator March 2007 from Best Buy. Yesterday, October 20, 2008, I smelled a burning plastic odor near the refrigerator when my daughter opened and shut its doors. I opened the doors, discovering the overhead lights extremely bright and hot, the plastic cover and light assembly melting, and the entire refrigerator warm, contrary to the 36 degree digital display on the front panel.

I tried to cut off the lights using the doors' pressure buttons, but only succeeded in starting the blower motor. Fearing a fire might start, I tried to remove the light bulbs, but they both exploded, spraying shards of glass on me, throughout the kitchen, and inside the refriderator. Seems like it oughtn't of done that!

I have an extended warranty, but only because the salesperson offered to back the cost into our final negotiated price. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the typical multi-visit; don't have the right part; musta been my fault; call LG - who says call Best Buy - who says call the repairman - who says not my problem, man, appliance repair service company with the Best Buy lowest bid contract.

I posted earlier about my Sears (LG) refrigerator almost catching fire because of the lights staying on. My refrigerator was over a year old. It took 5 visits, each visit being a weeks wait, wrong parts ordered, wrong parts sent to do a 15 minute swap out of the mother board (it has a bigger capacitor on it now), interior lights, and temperature module.Sears did explain that they had received a service notice on the problem and corrected the situation at no cost. However I had to do alot of screaming in the beginning. I was ready to call the better Business Bureau, and notify your state attorney general.

Now ironically my refrigerator is starting to have the low constant hum and I am afraid the next problem is going to be the FF error, I also noticed that the frost had built up on the back freezer wall alot. It's time we put an end to companies like LG that produce hazardous products and put consumers at risk. I urge each of you to contact the 3 organizations I listed above and file your complaints. Then go back and tell Sears/LG you have done so and you won't stop until their products are recalled and money refunded. I've already detoured friends from even looking at LG's products who are shopping for appliances.

I have had my LG side by side for just over 2 years. We had a power outage recently and my freezer/ice maker has not worked properly since. The authorized repairman came out and told me that the card had to be replaced. It will take 7-12 business days to get the part. This is rediculous, have they never heard of overnight express?? I suggest you stick with a well known US brand that you can get repaired on the same day and not have to wait. No more LG for me. Ever!!

BTW the repairman told me that LG purposely builds their refrigerators to fail and consider them expendable items. They don't make them to last 25 years anymore. So plan on replacing your LG's every 5 years. Once this one dies I'm going to Sears.

I lost all the food in my freezer, and am still waiting for the part.

June of 2007, I purchased a LG French Door refridgerator and within a matter of weeks the refridgerator started falling apart. After three months of my time and money, LG and Mc Manns finally sent a repair person out to fix the refridgorator. It took another two months before someone actually decided the fridge needed to go back. I was allowed to pick a new fridge.

Then again within a matter of weeks the new fridge. Same model, different make, started having problems. So far it has only been roughly a month since I have been dealing with the two companies about returning the fridge and picking a different one. I am having a problem with McManns furniture allowing me to select a fridge that is not LG and LG won't refund any money. I have so far spent over a thousand dollars on a piece of garbage that is not reparable.

Not only have I spent over 1450.00 for the price of the fridge, plus warranties, but my utility bill has significantly increased since the delivery of this refridgerator.
