Allison of Los Angeles, CA October 17, 2009 We purchased our KEBS207SSS KitchenAid 30" wall oven in May 2008, and used the self-clean function for the first time in Sept. 2009. I set it to self-clean and went to bed. In the morning, we came downstairs to find broken glass all over the kitchen. The interior glass panel had shattered inside the oven, but glass spilled out onto the floor. I hate to think what could have happened if someone had been standing nearby when the burning hot glass exploded and spilled out of the oven. The unit is out of warranty and Kitchen Aid (so far) has not agreed to cover the cost of the repair, which is going to run about 1200 for parts and labor, about half of what we paid for the oven. Many of the complaints about Kitchen Aid ovens say that the thermostat has stopped working after using the self-clean cycle. I haven't used the oven yet, since we haven't had the glass replaced, but I turned it on briefly and it seems to be working. We will continue to pursue with Kitchen Aid. This is a very serious safety hazard that they need to recognize. Joan of Alexandria, MN October 12, 2009 KitchenAid 27" wall oven model KEBC177KSSO installed in 2003. In July 2009, oven would not completely shut down after cleaning cycle - bottom unit remained on. Circuit breaker shut off to cool oven. When breaker turned back on, oven began heating again even though display said it was off. Oven was then turned on and allowed to heat and then shut off -- this time it worked. The next time oven was used, embers flew out of oven; food inside was not burned or overheated. Oven light then turned on by itself. I shut off the oven & then the circuit breaker in case it was an electrical problem. We waited and then turned circuit breaker back on. Oven display went out and the oven door locked with the food inside. When repair person came, we were told that the computer board had been fried from the heat of the cleaning cycle and would have to be replaced. KitchenAid will do nothing as it is out of warranty. This seems to be a dangerous situation if left unattended. Replacing the computer board does not solve the problem of it not being protected from the heat of the cleaning cycle and this may happen over and over again. I usually shut off the cleaning cycle at 2 hours, so this may be why my oven lasted as long as it did. K of Hamburg, NY October 7, 2009 In July 2005 we purchased a Kitchen Aid Gas Stove, Model #KGSA906PSS. I bought this stove because of the Kitchen Aid name. In June 2007 when I used the self-cleaning feature, the range shut off mid-cycle with the door locked. A service tech came out, diagnosed the problem & then ordered the part. So much for having a dependable stove. Once the part was replaced, I was able to use the slef-cleaning feature one time without the stove shutting down completely. In June 2009 my oven would just turn off for no reason, but the digital read out for the temperature for the over would read 350 degrees and/or if I changed the temperature, say from 400 to 350 degrees, the stove wouldn't continue to cook. The stove again needed service to correct the problem. On Saturday, 10/3/09 I again used the self-cleaning feature & the stove shut off mid-cycle with the door locked. The knobs for the stove top were so hot you couldn't touch them. The exposed sides of the stove top (the stove slides inbetween my cabinets) were also too hot too touch for hours afterward. The digital pad is dead. I have an extended warranty so I called for service on 10/3. They'll be here Tursday, 10/8! I checked this webiste to see if Kitchen Aid had a recall on their stoves becuase the stove I have is not only defective, but now I'm concerned about a fire hazard when using the self-clean feature once its fixed again. Kitchen Aid use to be the top of the line manufacturer, but I'd never buy another one after my experience with this product. Charles of Colorado Springs, CO September 15, 2009 About two years ago we purchased a Kitchenaid KEBS107SSS00 single electric wall oven. This oven has functioned acceptably until a recent problem. A few weeks ago, I tried to use the self clean cycle for the first time. I started the cycle, and left the kitchen. When I returned a few hours later, the inner glass of the oven door had shattered. Hot shards of glass had spilled onto our hardwood floor causing multiple burn marks. On studying the oven design I see that there is a significant difference between this and other ovens. The glass in this oven extends beyond the oven seal at the bottom of the door. This means that if the glass breaks, it is free to fall out of the oven. Once this process starts, the initial loss of glass creates a gap that allows more and hotter glass to fall out. Other ovens are designed so that if the inner glass breaks, it is contained within the oven. I have learned that the glass in the oven was likely at about 800F when it failed during the self clean cycle. The ignition point for paper is 450F. So any hot glass that escapes the oven has a potential to ignite nearby combustibles, such as a rug or paper in a trash can. My opinion is that this is a fire hazard. Kitchenaid agrees that glass sometimes breaks, but won't connect the dots to conclude that (unlike other oven designs) a glass breakage in this oven could set somebody's house on fire. Emily of greenville, NC September 12, 2009 We own a top of the line kitchenaid oven/stove that is only a few years old. It has begun to completely shut off when i cook anything (in the oven OR the stove) for more then an hour or so. At some random point (hours later), it then turns back on and the screen reads PF (power failure). I have tried to trip the breaker with no luck. When it turns itself off the touchpad does not work and even the digital clock is blank on the oven, but the gas stove is still functional. I contacted Kitchenaid after reading on this site that there are a significant number of other people with the same issues. I thought they were maybe issuing a recall? No such luck. I was told that my appliance is out of it's one year warranty period and I should take it to an authorized repairman with any issues. That is unacceptable for a top of the line appliance, in my opinion. How does one bake for a family of four as well as entertain guests as we enjoy doing with an oven that turns itself off sporadically? Peggy of Jonestown , PA September 9, 2009 I bought a top of the line Kitchen Aid Stove from Sears. Before the warranty was up They replaced the temperature gauge and then months later the computer in it. Now they have to come out because the stop button does not work for the oven so I had to pull; the stove out and unplug it. I plugged it back in but can only use the stove. Sears is coming out tomorrow and I have a feeling I'm going to have to replace the computer. I am very dissapointed with this stove. I will see but this will probably cost over 500 dollars. Claire of San Jose, CA September 6, 2009 Before we purchased the range, I asked their custoer service department who owned the company now, and I was told that it was owned by the original kitchenaid company. Now I find out that in 1986 they were purchased by whirlpool. We then purchased our Kitchenaid range, architects model, delivered december 2005.Stove installed with the logo upside down. whole door was replaced. Switches on double burners faulty. One does not work at all, other two work occasionally. Burners turn on at the slightest touch. Oven panel replaced. Have called the company repeatedly, have tried to buy parts thru repair services, parts stores, and on the web. company site states that switches will be available 2022. When the burners do work, they will turn off when I stop watching them.Concern: if we do get the parts, they will most likely be faulty. It's time for a class action suit. Is anything being done about this, or is this site a scam and you are really part of the company??? Margaret of Calgary, AB September 5, 2009 Walloven KEBC177KS Serial XT4909585 SS 27". Purchased wall oven in February 2007 and my first cleaning was in May 2008 and subsequently my oven wouold not work. Reported it to the Brick (jcawley) and to kitchenaid Whirllpool and received no reply from either. I did obtain the phone number of the Brick's repair service and called them and the technician knew exactly what the problem was and ordered what he described as a new thermostat. He explained that when the oven is cleaned, the temperature does not cool down and blows the thermostat. He suggested I buy the extended warranty and so I requested it and was refused. Had thermostat replaced at no charge. Once again, cleaned my oven in August 2009, and same problem. Notifed the Brick and Kitchenaid once again, no reply. Called the service technician and am waiting to hear back. Have sent copy of problem to P. Brar, Manager of The Brick. Also, I have two friends with same oven and they are afraid to clean them. It is unbelievable that you can pay approx 2000 for an oven you can't safely celan. Any help would be very much appreciated. Gregg of Gibsonia, PA September 2, 2009 I received a call from Whirlpool's Exec Office today and they are paying for parts and labor. Whirlpool has agreed to pay for parts and labor (215). I wrote a letter to the President back on Aug 18 and they called today (9/2) - the day the serviceman is scheduled to replace the part. I thought it should be noted as follow-up to my issue. (Built-In oven Model KEBC171 I've had this oven for 1.5 years and tried to run a cleaning cycle for the first time tonight. The oven is now inoperable. Not a surprise if you google it as this seems to be a known defect that KA is doing nothing about. I find this completely unacceptable and cannot believe they are getting away with this.) Lisa of Troy, MI September 1, 2009 I bought this KitchenAid Range 11/2004 from Hawthorne Appliance in Rochester Hills, Mich. with a extended warranty through them. I have never been able to do a oven cleaning cycle, even the short one without the oven completely blowing the breaker, which turns off the breaker and locks the oven door closed. The thermostat, fans and control boards have been replaced numerous times with the same result. KitchenAid has offered me 150 off a new range! I paid about 1500 for this one and one compatible with what I have is over 2000 now. They told me to refer to the extended warranty for anything further. The warranty I have through Hawthorne (ABC Extended Service) just keeps sending out repair people to do the same things over and over. Last person I spoke with in ABC warranty told me to heat the oven, then turn it off and put a pan of ammonia in the oven and then let it soak!!! Wonder if my oven would blow up? I bought self-cleaning so I don't have to smell all those cleaners that bother my allergies and asthma and then I have them tell me to stick ammonia in the oven? Crazy~ I also have problems with the grate and burner covers with the peeling and bubbling of the paint. I have replaced them once. I barely use the oven because I can't clean it. I instead use a counter-top convection oven. If you look in my oven you can tell it's hardly been used because it surely has not gotten through a cleaning cycle yet. Report Your Experience
