Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag, Crosley Refrigerators Recalled

Chris of Los Angeles, CA (10/17/06)
I purchased a Jenn-Air Stainless Steel Refrigerator in late 2002. By late 2005 the Stainless Steel exterior had completely rusted over.

I called Jenn-Air Customer Service who charged me for a powder they said would remove the rust. It did not. I called a year later in further frustration that my 1800 refrigerator was looking like a piece of garbage. They kindly told me they would do nothing for me.

The damage is so bad that I have to replace this refrigerator. The cost of replacing just the metal exterior would cost around 900.

Lisa of Los Angeles, CA (10/02/06)
Our Jenn-Aire refrigerator was bought in August 2004. Within 2 days, the freezer door would not close. Someone from the Maytag store came out and saw what a mess it was and agreed to exchange the refrigerator for a new one, but told me that I had to call the manufacturer. I called Maytag who would not okay the exchange and sent someone out to take a look at the refrigerator. They had to order ALL new parts for the freezer. The freezer door has never opened properly.

Two years later, the freezer starts making loud noises, and after a weekend away, the freezer and refrigerator were dead. I had to throw everything out. Two weeks later, a technician came out & said I needed a new compressor which had to be back-ordered.  After being stood up twice and losing three work days a tech came out and said that there was nothing wrong with the compressor and left.

Within the week, the freezer door would not open.  When I finally opened it everything had melted and for the 2nd time I had to throw all the food out. I now have a non-working freezer and the refrigerator is not keeping things cold.

I bought a Jenn Air refrigerator in April, 2005. By August, 2006, the compressor had broken. I called All Brands, their service supplier and they charged me 288 for a service call, that I was told would cost 80. I was also told the compressor was still a covered replacement part.

I called the Customer Care dept of All Brands in TN. They said Jenn Aire had added an extended compressor warrantee to my contract, and I was covered for parts and labor for 5 years. Their representative transferred my call to their regional office. The rep there told me the 288 was called a diagnostic charge, so it was not covered as labor!

Joseph of Chula Vista, CA September 10, 2006

Joseph of Chula Vista CA (09/10/06)
I bought our refrigerator in 2001 from the Sears Outlet in San Diego. From the time we had it installed it did not work properly. The ice dispenser always made a loud noise when dispensing ice. Within the next few years the seals on the feezer portion did not always seal causing condensation which led to the door not sealing and the ice turning into water. This caused water to accumulate on our wood floor which ruins the wood flooring. This problem happened off and on for several years.

The facing on the freezer door below the water and ice dispenser has now corroded due to moisture getting in behind the door and is now rusting. The last problem we have been dealing with is the refrigerator does not cool anymore. We have now decided to get a knew refrigerator and now have to spend another 1000 plus to buy one. We were at the Sear store and told the sales person about our refrigerator and he acknowledged that the JennAir's they had on their floor were breaking down with parts breaking even with no use. He also told us that the refrigerators were not meant to last over 5 years. Additionally, He also told us that one company, I beleive he said was Whirlpool now owns JennAir, Kenmore LG and several other brands. I wondered if a monopoly is good or bad for consumers.

We decided to upgrade our refrigerator and go to the top-of-the-line, Jenn-Air made by Whirlpool. This has turned out to be a dasteredly mistake in judgement.

One of the primary reasons for purchasing this Jenn-Air model was so the grandchildren (15) would be able to access ice and water from the outside of the freezer compartment of this side-by-side model. However, this summer the ice dispenser has been out of the service since June. The local appliance service company has been to our home 3 times this summer and replaced parts but the unit still does not deliver ice.

By purchasing this Jenn-Air model JC02289AEA in February of 1999 we thought we would enjoy some comforts after being so frugle all our lives. Quit frankly we would have been better off to purchase a good ole Kenmore or Westinghouse.
