I purchased my built in side by side Jenn-Air refrigerator in October 2007 when I built my home. I recently got back from a vacation to find my fridge at over 100 degrees and completely melted and cracked the interior shelving. It no longer cools properly and the service tech said they cannot fix it because they cannot get all the parts. They suggested I purchase a new fridge. You would think a $6k appliance would last longer than four years. Jenn-Air is giving me the runaround and offering no help whatsoever! I am disgusted with how unprofessional Jenn-Air has been.
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Jenn-Air model jcd2290hes (serial number 10596443ej) stopped cooling properly. This is a 2005 model (approximately 6 years old). Repair man said the cooling system is not functioning properly and since it is a sealed system, the cost of repair outweighs the value. You can bet we won't be shopping for a Jenn-Air or Maytag as a replacement for this fridge that has already been serviced once.

I purchased a Jenn-Air fridge 3 years ago, and needed service for the first time, when it was 6 months old. All the food in the fridge started freezing (that's one load of lost food). The service guy came, said the bottom freezer drawer wasn't closing properly. Okay. A few months, after we had the same problem (second lost load of food), the service guy came said it was the door hinge, and that we shouldn't keep food in the fridge near the walls, because the air from the freezer comes up from the back and that's what cools the fridge.
Yes, it's not a great design, he said. Okay, so we lived with this for many months then we kicked into our "extended warranty". Now the big problems begin, but not to go into all the nasty frustrating details. This is where we are now. Our fridge has had the compressor replaced when the entire thing shut down and, oh wait, (another load of food lost, that makes 4 or 5, I can't remember). Now we have had a total of 5 service calls to repair it, with no success, and finally today, the service man said it's "unrepairable".
We have not had a fridge for almost 3 weeks now! But hey wait, GE, the extended warranty people say hey, this is a manufacturer issue, and the manufacturer says, this is what we are going to do, we will set up a service appointment with 2 guys, and have them take the entire fridge apart, and piece by piece we will replace anything not working properly, and then put it all back together, and it should be fixed.
Okay, now you tell me, is this totally insane? They obviously are not going to do anything. They are waiting for me to just give up, and go out and buy another fridge, which I may end up doing, but if I do that, you can believe, it will not be anything manufactured by Whirlpool. They truly suck!

There are constant repairs. The doors do not shut completely, so the alarm is always going off. The drawer inside does not close completely. The bottom cover falls off constantly. The compressor is broken again. Our Jenn-Air refrigerators is now unplugged.

In 2005, we purchased a side-by-side Jenn-Aire JS42CSFXDA. First problem was that the water to the ice-maker was not shutting off. When I opened the freezer door, I had a few gallons of water on my hardwood floor. No one could figure out why so they bypassed the filter and now it works. I was able to do this because I have a water filter on my main line anyway. Next the ice-maker stopped working. They replaced the ice maker but that didn't fix the problem. Next a circuit board was replaced. That didn't work. Finally, after a second replacement of the ice-maker I now have ice again.
Next problem was the freezer dripping inside and icing up. The problem was the drain hose was frozen. The solution was to let everything defrost for a couple of days, check to make sure that nothing was clogging the hose and then put everything back together. That lasted for about 3 months and then icing again occurred. The same procedure was followed with a slight modification to the drain hose. 6 months later, frozen again. No one seems to know why; I've seen this problem rampant on the Internet with Jenn-aire.

My 48" built-in Jenn Air refrigerator began to cause problems in November 2010, and as of today, it is still not working. It is under warranty but I am absolutely fed up with Jenn Air's lack of responsiveness and excuses. I have had two different repair companies work on the coolant system but they have failed. After 10 months of failure, Jenn Air still refuses to replace the refrigerator. My refrigerator has been dismantled at least 6-8 times and no one can determine the root cause of the failure. Recently, a customer service representative had the nerve to tell me that she would have purchased another refrigerator by now. That sums it up. They appear to be stalling until I am so frustrated that I go buy a Sub Zero. I cannot describe my level of frustration.

I purchased a Jenn Air Refrigerator back in 2005 for almost $3,000. Recently I have had issues with it and was told that I need to have a whole new compressor replaced that would cost $1,000. When contacting Jenn Air customer Service, I was told that it only has a 5 year Warranty and that "It is what it is". When spending this much money on a refrigerator in order to finally be able to afford your dream kitchen and only have the refrigerator last 6 years, it is completely unacceptable! Who do you people think you are? This is not how to keep a customer happy. Refrigerators should last 10 to 12 years, not six years!

Jenn-Air sucks! My wife woke up to a major leak on our main floor the other night. There was water everywhere. It was coming from the valve in the Jenn-Air (French door, bottom freezer) fridge that connects to the water supply. The valve failed only after a few years (fridge was purchased in 2008). I have over $30k damage in my house. My entire hardwood floor has to come up, plus the basement is ruined, from the floor to the ceiling tiles, furnace, hot water tank, ducts. I am phoning Jenn-Air now, but from my impression, based on the responses throughout, they will opt to do nothing. I will pursue full action against them for all damages.

My Jenn-Air french door/bottom freezer refrigerator cannot produce ice. It is because the ice maker freezes everything in the refrigerator. My excellent appliance repairman said that this is a very common problem that no one on the Jenn-Air hotline can fix.

I have been the unhappy, surprised owner of these two Jenn-Air appliances since 2005. (I was surprised because of Jenn-Air's reputation). Both products failed quickly and their design flaws are significant.
The French three-door fridge (JFC2089 HES) has had parts replaced after the one-year warranty. (I've had three service calls in a two-year period; this contrasts with one service call over 20 years for my GE fridge). The inside water tap, the produce and meat drawers, and the water filter element are all difficult to use and move. The water tap is hard to press, the drawers do not slide in and out easily (and usually require special tugs and adjustments), and the water filter replacement is a task that I dread having to do because it is so physically difficult to do.
For the last two years, the doors do not close properly and one has to close them by hand; otherwise frost starts to build up inside. I was told that it would cost too much to have these doors repaired (very poor design flaws). The cook top (JEC9530) is pure nightmare. Within the first six months of owning it, the "smart" Custom Control burner in the front failed six times. And I had to have someone come, repair and replace it for six times before Jenn-Air owned up to the fact that it was a lemon and replaced the cook top.
And sure enough, within one year, the burner failed again and I had to pay $500 to have it replaced. And, you guessed it, it failed within 18 months. I am not going to pay another $500 for this cook top which was clearly a loser all along. I was told by the serviceman that he has made a lot of money replacing these burners and that it was clearly designed poorly. He told me to buy another brand.
I wish I had bought GE--my neighbors redid their kitchen at the same time I did with GE Profile (my oven is also GE Profile). All have operated flawlessly since purchase. I cannot afford a new fridge and cook top but, boy, are these products disappointing and a terrible investment on my part. Any advice?

I bought a Jenn-Air side by side built-in refrigerator and the fridge stopped working. The lights and control panel are on but there is no activity from the compressor/motor. I tried unplugging and switching it on and off but it didn't work. About $500 of food got wasted and it was very hard to get customer service from Jenn-Air. This is the third problem with this $6,000 fridge in six years. Now, it is out of warranty.

I purchased an expensive side-by-side ref/freezer from Jennair. In the 5 years I have owned this unit, it has gone down (5 times) with major issues. Jennair agreed to exchange the unit with a new unit but unfortunately, their customer service department hires nothing but ** to do the work. Last week, I received a call from the trucking company setting up the exchange. They realized that the customer service department entered the wrong address; 12671 instead of 12672. So far, I have made 25 calls (3 work days) and not one ** can figure out how to make the change in the address. I would never, ever recommend to anyone to purchase a Jennair product again.

I purchased 3 Jenn-Air products: a side by side refrigerator, a stove and a dish washer for my new kitchen remodel. I had extended warranties but their yearly cost slightly exceeded the annual repair bills.
The refrigerator leaks 8 months of the year, the other four months are after the repair. I am tired of seeing water leaking on the floor.
I paid over $10,000 for what I thought would be a great set of appliances, but that is not the case. They look good but they don't function well. I would suggest to all: don't buy Jenn-Air.

Jenn-Air French Door Refrigerator. In the past 4 years, we have gutted and redone our kitchen. We selected 3 of the appliances from Jenn-Air and have been very disappointed with the day-to-day performance of all. The refrigerator's main problem (which reflects the problems with all of our Jenn-Air appliances) is small, but terminally aggravating. It cools well, makes ice well, does all the basic functions well, but the cover of the lower, all-across drawer, once removed a single time for cleaning, continues to pop off no matter how many times or how carefully you replace it on its pintles. Every teensy part of a refrigerator should be removable for cleaning and afterward, should still work like a charm. We removed this cover one time to clean following a spill (common household occurrence) and it has been faulty ever since. It will not stay in place more than a few days, pops off at least once a week. This is enough to make you hate your refrigerator since you have to open this cover many times each week and it needs to remain functional.

We purchased a Jenn-Air fridge from Sears in 2003. We also purchased a service warranty. Since then the refrigerator has leaked almost continuously. We have had multiple service repair persons here to fix it. It isn't fixed. Our brand new floor underneath the fridge is ruined from the leaked water. It is also gouged in front of the fridge due to a repair person dragging it across the new floor. Several of the repair people have said the unit was badly designed and built. We are tired of scheduling almost bi-monthly repair calls. What can we do?

I built a new house at the end of 2002 and spent almost $2K on a side-by-side fridge which is a Jenn Air. I started having problems with it in early 2004. I have now had service calls for five different occasions, soon to be six as the fridge is not cooling again. Each time it's related to defrost on the freezer. After this call, my repair totals will be in the $800 range not including my time off and lost food. I bought a second fridge as a back up to transfer food when this one goes down. It is the cheapest thing I could find and I haven't had an ounce of problem with it. More is not always better. Live and learn.

In 2003, I bought a top of the line side by side Jenn-Air refrigerator for a new home I built. This was at the end of 2003, and I moved in and started using the refrigerator in February 2004. On Super Bowl Sunday 2005, I noticed that my new refrigerator was over 60 degrees. It eventually went up to 90 and ruined the entire refrigerator and freezer of food. After having the motherboard replaced, a few months later, it did the same thing, ruining another load of food.
After essentially screaming at a representative on the phone, he sent me $150 toward the two separately ruined loads of food and they replaced the refrigerator completely. Last Friday my refrigerator died. When I say died, I mean that one moment it was humming along fine and the next it was dead. Nothing worked. It wouldn't even turn on. I cannot understand how you can pay $5000 for a refrigerator, assuming it to be an upscale, top of the line appliance and it can simply die. I am still awaiting a repair!

Refrigerator not cooling anymore, freezer side is fine. Have taken off covers inside freezer last summer and now again this summer to manually defrost unit. I had the recall fix done last year, so that did not fix this problem with refrigerator side not cooling. Now more detective work on my part is in order to continue troubleshooting as the manual defrost has not brought up the refrigerator temperature to where it should be.

We remodeled our kitchen and new appliances were a must. We wanted a better product and selected a Jenn-Air range and refrigerator. The range failed almost immediately, but was repaired by the Sears service company and has been working okay. The refrigerator, however, has had something and failed five times. And we continue with a Sears service contract to protect us from a huge repair expense. It seems like it fails every year.

Shortly, after we purchased the 48" Built in Jenn Air fridge, it was not cooling. They sent a repair person out who claimed it 'fixed'. Six months later, same issue, not cooling. We've had a repair person out 3 times in 3 years and the warranty expires in 10 days. Got home from vacation and the unit was warm again. We will have another person out to 'fix' it again. Not only it is time consuming to have to sit at home waiting for the repair person but it's also expensive.
We have to throw out everything, at least $250 worth of food each time this happens. I asked them when do they say enough is enough and replace the unit? They told me my warranty does not cover replacement or food costs. So they will continue to send out repair people until your warranty expires and then you pay to get them to fix it as well as replace all the food again.

Part One: Jenn Air fridge problems: Jenn Air French Door bought in Feb, 2009 installed in March 2009, with an extended warranty for repair added by Jenn Air when the appliance was not fixed within the year. In the never ending saga of trying to get my new Jen Air appliances working, I finally sent a complaint to the Alabama State Attorney General's Office, Division of Consumer complaints. Carol S. from the Executive Offices at Jenn Air contacted me a couple of weeks ago after the third service company, Alabama Power came out to service the appliances. Neither appliance has worked properly since the day they were installed.
The head engineer, Mr. Phil A., from Alabama Power told me that my fridge was working properly, even though my food is freezing. He turned up the refrigerator temperature to 41 degrees and the freezer to 5 degrees. Also, I should not use the shelves on the upper part of my refrigerator because the temperature is colder in that part of the fridge. Our manual thermometer reads in the danger zone for food spoiling.
One third of my refrigerator has been rendered unusable, and the food is still freezing, as it was on all the shelves of the fridge. Jenn Air stated there was nothing more to do to fix the fridge, according to Carol S. of Jenn Air. Loss of even more food, cost of a new refrigerator for the garage, $500.00 and the electricity to run another appliance, one that should not be needed.

I've had multiple problems from first month. Ice maker malfunctioned, freezer vents froze up and water was all over floor. It wouldn't keep food cold or froze everything in fridge (defroster timer thermostat malfunction). The latest problem is that the freezer door will not stay closed. The seal seems defective. Fridge runs constantly (can't wait to see my electric bill). If I could, I would throw it out and buy another brand, but I can't afford it at this time. I will never buy or recommend Jenn-Air to anyone.

Refrigerator is being repaired again! Model JCD 2289ATB. Water from defrost fills bottom of freezer then unit completely shuts down. Please help.

Today is the 9th day without a refrigerator. Technician said there is a short in the power cord. We bought all new appliances for a large kitchen for our new home. After spending $14,000, we were barely able to get the refrigerator not to break down after 9 months of usage. Service company will not pay to overnight part, (needless to say does not stock any parts), won't schedule me for a service call until part comes in (had to wait 3 days for tech to come and diagnose the problem. After delivery and starting to use, we found the design is very poor, the ice maker takes up 1/3 of useable space, and the type of shelf supports takes away the height you would have to put in containers, all in all really poor design. We are buying another new refrigerator to put in a rental unit, however, I have decided to put this Jennaire in and I will buy another new one for our home. But guess what it will not be a Jenn Air, and will not be from Bray and Scarff. I guess $2400 does not.

Jenn-Air model JCD2389GES with serial number ending with CP has the same problem as serial number ending with CC. It is a fire hazard. The compressor is overheating and can cause fire. I keep the refrigerator but not using it. I asked Jenn-Air to replace the compressor and the relay but they claim this serial number is not under recall.

I bought Jenn-Air Refrigerator built-in model JS42SEDBDA from ExPO Design in 2005 with 5 years extended warranty. I had problem with door few month later which technician broke and made a crack to interior wall of refrigerator during the repair and he was told just put a silicon tap and leave. I made several complaint and after 4 month I got a replacement.
Two months ago I saw all my master bedroom floor is wet and carpet under the fireplace cabinet is all rusted. I called my insurance after they opened the wall behined the kitchen there was mold and water all over. a authorized technician from Jenn-Air confirmed that the leak is from the refrigerator which is not repairable.
Jenn-Air is refusing to pay for damage to my cabinets which has mold and my insurance is blaming the Jenn-Air. I am living in hazardous situation and have damaged bedroom and kitchen. I have estimate over $102,000.00 to repair my kitchen and bedroom and Jenn-Air wants only to buy-back the damage refrigerator for the price I paid $5800.

OK add my name to the list of disappointed consumers!! I have a 3 door expensive refrigerator the compressor died not 5 years into owning it! the last refrigerator lasted 30 YEARS! POOR quality, no service, never will I buy another product from Jenn-air. so here I am ay Christmas 40 people coming for dinner and no refrigerator! America home shield warranty company is even worse. no one cares about the consumer no surprise our country is scrambling just to stay alive.

Purchased a Jenn Air Stainless Steel Side by Side Refridgerator and it has always had a problem. The first problem was the ice maker, the second the door cracked and they discontinued the piece prior to purchasing the refrigerator. I purchased the side by side, a microwave, and a stove.
Last week the board to dispense water and ice caught fire. It melted several of the pieces in the door. Every authorized repair shop for Jenn Air has nothing positive to say about the product. They also related that the Jenn Air Side by Sides have been known to catch on fire, or dispense ice until the ice is gone from the freezer; as well as what they call peeing. That is when the unit dispenses water and will not shut off even though no one dispensed any water. He said people have woken up with several inches of water all over the floor.
There is no big box store or appliance store that has Jenn Air on their floor, and they discourage customers from purchasing Jenn Air. They are suggesting LG, Electrolux, or Bosch appliances.
Smelly mess, melted parts, Jenn Air could care less if there was a fire. Will contact the Consumer Protection. The first of the year I received a card in the mail stating a new part needed to be installed due to numerous kitchen fires. I am concerned about the lack of responsibility on the part of Jenn Air when I had smoke and melted parts. I am going to also contact the state and my attorney.

Purchased for $1800 in April/2000. About one month after warranty expired, frig quit keeping things cold. Realized it had totally iced up the fins in the freezer. Called a technician who informed us this was a very common failure of the adaptive relay board in JennAirs. He replaced the board and the thermostat. JennAir after much haranguing refunded us about half the cost of the parts.
Same problem occurred several times and we have replaced the board several times, with no compensation from JennAir. It fails on average a little less than once per year and must be replaced. Now, it is clicking and appears to be failing or failed again. We have heard about class-action lawsuits and there was a recall recently of these kinds of refrigerators but apparently the serial number on ours did not qualify it for the recall.
Clearly, this is a defective design. We are already out several hundred dollars and much time and aggravation. Obviously, we would never touch another JennAir/Whirlpool/Amana product. But is there anything else we can do to rectify this abysmal situation? Loss of several hundred dollars, many many hours, and some food loss as well.

I have a Jenn-aire Luxury built in refrigerator. It went out on Sunday, September 20, 2009. We called for service on Monday, 9/21/09. The service company told us the part was ordered and would be there in a week. After 1 week, we called them they said the part was still not in and that they would check on it. They informed us that the part was on a Manufacturers Backorder. They also informed me that this is the worst possible scenario. As it stands right now, I have been without my refrigerator for 19 days and I just called your customer service number and was informed that this part is not expected until 11/30/09. WHAT????? How on earth can a company as large as you not have any parts. What am I supposed to do?
When you purchase a large ticket item from a reputable company you have certain expectations. One, that the item should last longer than 5 years. Two, that you can have repairs done, if needed. Is there something wrong with this refrigerator/part? Do I need to replace my refrigerator? I certainly do not want to wait until 11/30/09 to find out that it is still unavailable or even worse not available at all. This is the second repair on this refrigerator. I think that the repair was done on this same part but I can not find my records on this. I have the repair company trying to check on it but their records are paper and without specific dates it will be hard for them to help. What can you do for me?There must be a part sitting somewhere.

On Saturday evening July 25th our only refrigerator caught on fire. It was a electrial fire due to a faulty part. We had smoke and shooting flames. we unplugped the unit and the fire went out. On Monday July 27th we contacted Maytag to report the fire. They transferredme to the safety department, who informed me that are model was recalled for a retro fitdue to safety reasons. They sent out a repairmanon July 28th who replaced the old burnt part with the retro fit part. Due to the fire the repair filed paper work reporting that it was not repairable due to the fire.
On the 29h they gave us the opptions of replacing the unit at its deprecationprice or giving us the deprecationvalue. We discussed it and felt the purchase of the new unit would be best. We ordered a JF12589AEP on July 30th. for $700. On July 30th Lorna quoted 7 to 10 days for delivery. She said we would hear from a delivery company to set up delivery. Maytag charged our credit card 7/30 for the replacement unit. On August 5th I placed numerous calls and left two messages to discuss the status of the delivery. I did not receive a return call.
On August 6th I started all over again. I talked with Monica ext.6981 and Lorna ext 7781. I was told that the unit we ordered is in production and will not be in stock until August 19th. At that time delivery will be scheduled. On the 19th we will have gone 26 days, 18 business days without a refrigerator.
ur refrigerator caught ON FIRE!!! My husband and I where running 5 minutes late to go to our sons soccer game and as we where leaving I heard a popping noisecoming from the refrigerator. I than saw smoke! I called my husband who pulled it our form the wall and at that time saw FLAMES shooting out of the rear of the unit! We have a 13 year old daughter who we where leaving at home ALONE. Had see been in her room she would not of heard the sound nor seen the smoke. She would not have been aware until the fire set of the smoke alarms. At that time she would not have been able to pull the unit from the wall and unplug it to put out the fire. What would of she had done and would she have been unstairs with her music playing as our home burned below.
Maytags response has been anything but responsive. We are very lucking everyone is okay and that damage was not done to our home. We ahev not been lucky with solving the problem of no refrigerator. We are buying bags of us every other day now. The first week each day to fill coolers. We had quests in town the first week. we are running to the store for daily and eating out due to no place to store food.
Our Jen Air refrigerator was purchased in 2001. It was 8 years old and in very good condition. We purchased a brand we felt was designed to hold up. It did other than the recalled part that has saftey issues!

We received a recall letter involving our 6 year old Jenn Air side by side refrigerator. Their tech came out on June3rd to replace the "defective" part. My fridge was working perfectly until they "fixed" it. I ended up being without a refrigerator for 2 weeks! The person I spoke to about our food loss and about getting my fridge working again was extremely rude and unhelpful. My husband and I finally went and bought a new fridge(after their tech had been out 5 times and had been unable to fix it) Then I received a phone call from Ms.Yircott telling me that they were going to give me a new unit but that I had to pay the difference because of the age of my original refrigerator (which worked fine before they touched it!) I will never have a Whirlpool product in my home again!

Bought a 48" Built in Jenn Air Refridgerator/freezer, took delivery Jan 09 and freezer has never worked. 16 service calls answered, and still does not work. Have had a spare refridgerator in the middle of my livingroom for 4 months!!!Need a replacement for this expensive purchase at this point!

On January 24th 2009 my Jenn Aire side by side refrigerator had stopped cooling during the night, there was an electrical burning smell and the smell of burning plastic. The service man came and determined the starter relay had burned and melted onto the compressor. The estimate was $600 to repair since they had to also replace the compressor (which was working) due to melted parts on it. I couldn't afford to put that much money into an 8 year old refrigerator and had it hauled away. I am presently using an old refrigerator from the garage.
In March 2009 Maytag issued a recall for my refrigerator for the exact problem I had. I contacted them via email and provided multiple pieces of information on the problem I had and the fact the refrigerator was removed rather than repaired. I asked them to simply reimburse the $59 service call since it was a known problem and they were willing to fix it in 1.6 million refrigerators. They first claimed I didn't have the correct part number (for the replacement part that wasn't put in). Then it was that I no longer had the refrigerator.
The bottom line is that this refrigerator had a defective part, the part caught fire and destroyed the refrigerator and they won't make any effort to even reimburse the service call to discover this problem because it was prior to the national recall. I guess it is easier to delay as long as possible on a safety recall and then penalize those people who had the safety problem and were damaged prior to the recall.
I lost the food in the refrigerator, the refrigerator itself and the cost of the service call. I feel lucky I was home when it started burning and had a home left.

My jenn air fridge nearly caught fire cause the relay went like all the others in recall. If i wasnt home it would have burnt my house down. It burnt out the relay

Our cabinet depth Jenn Aire refrigerator had an electrical short, began smoking and caught fire a month ago. We called the local Maytag repairman who diagnosed the problem as one with the relay. He said it was beyond repair. He removed the refrigerator and we had no choice but to buy a new one on the spot. A month later I heard about the recall. I called the hotline and was told our model was subject to the recall.
When I told them we had already replaced it, they said there was nothing they could do or WOULD do. This was after 2 days of calls and a big run around. Does anyone out there know any other number to call for help? We had to spend $3700 on the spot for a new cabinet depth refrigerator.

We moved interstate to Queensland from Sydney in 2002. The previous owner had a Jenn-Air fridge in the kitchen when we inspected of our new home - we liked the look of it, the fact it had an ice-maker and chilled water dispenser. As we were going to now live in the sub-tropics, we decided upon & purchased the newest model at $A4554.00 in Mar 02 (probably the most expensive on the market at the time). Since its purchase we have serviced the fridge many times for various reasons but more often to attend to faults with the ice-maker.
Other problems have been with heaters, thermostats and doors not closing snuggly and therefore not cooling effiiently. Worse has just befallen us, the fridge has been loosing lots of water (from where we are yet to find out, but not from a faulty tap to the water supply), the technician will be here Monday (now Mar 09)to inspect and provide an insurance report.
As a result of the water leakage, we have sustained significant damage to our floor coverings, sub-floor and the ceiling below the fridge to our downstairs media room. The surrounding kitchen cabinetry is weakened and distorted by water damage. We now have to sumit an insurance claim, attend to getting quotes for reapirs AND find another fridge - it definitely will not be another Jenn-Air. The old one will be taken away by the supplier of our new side-by-side fridge - brand as yet undecided. Any recommendations?

In 2003 I purchased a Jenn Air side by side stainless refrigerator. The refrigerator was not installed until June of 2003 due to construction of home. Once installed, a new compressor had to be ordered. I called on July 3 2003 and Jenn Air said the compressor was on back order. We survived with another frige in our basement. I began loosing foods due to temperature problems and ice building up in the freezer. I began calling Jenn Air about the problem. They told me that they would send a tech to fix it. I took off work and Amicalola Repair came out and said "I don't work on built-ins".
I called Jenn Air again and they sent another tech out **another day off work** and they too did not work on built-ins. More food was being lost, more ice building up in the freezer. Ice hanging from vents, etc. in the freezer. Temperature increases and all food is lost from frige and freezer again. I called 3 X and spoke with Kathy L. She told me to speak with Eric at factory seervice. To get service for my problem, he told me to contact Anna. I gave Anna my name, address and telephone #. I asked for an address to write Jenn Air and was given Cleveland, TN 37311. I told Anna I wanted to write a letter about the problems with this product.
At this point, I was transferred to Liz C, Director of Consumer Contact. Told her my problems and she transferred me to Randy. I told him of my problems and he apologized. He said he would send me $300.00 for the food looses. I told Randy my refrigerator had gone hot so many times that we now were using basement kenmore. We use blow dryer to get ice out of the back panel of the freezer. I'm not talking about small ice deposits...I'm talking about ice aprox 3 inches thick in behind the back panel of the freezer and about 5 feet high. Randy calls A & E says Ken S from Atlanta Branch would be in Van #42 would be out to fix the problem. (Another day off work) I took off for his appointment. Dispatcher called me scheduled the appointment. Phillis was in scheduling department. She told me someone would call me.
Spoke with Faith and on 3/8/04 Ken S from A & K came out to work on the refrigerator. At this time, parts had already been sent to my address. The following was replaced: Switch limit, lower hinge, kit door hing, switch, kit control board, valve water, water valve, shelf spillproof, drain pan hose was trimmed. Next day, ice build up again. I called for Randy. Ken S was sent back with a Drain Pan installation. I had no problems for a little while and then began having ice build up again. Another drain pan was replaced. Did good for a little while. Ice began to form, I ignored it, then, ice was melting in the bottom of the ice ben and then refreezing. The auger could not dispense the ice because it was frozen solid.
Finally on December 3,2008 I called again (knowing I'd be off work and I could get a repair man without taking off). I spoke to Jesse she said to turn off frige at main to reset electronics. For months I had been taking the ice ben out and taking hot water to melt the pool of frozen ice around the auger. Finally, I call on the 8th again and speak with someone who says they did not have any record of my services nor of Ken Stone. Finally spoke with Samantha who told me that the dran pan in this model of refrigerator was defective. She helped to get service. Luckily I called Forsyth and Integrity both which did not work the Dahlonega area. One of the men I spoke with knew Ken S said he worked for A & E and I called them they sent another service guy and they replaced the drain pan #3, auger motor, and a computer board. With the new drain pan the improved modification was to leave the drain pan electrical part unplugged. There was no modification!
Now, the new problems is the freezer will not get below 26 degrees. Ice will not form because the temperature is too high. I e-mailed the company from their web site on 2/9/09 and got no response. I called and spoke with Juan. He transferred me t a supervisor in the built in supervisor department. I explained the problems are ongoing. Drain pan issues were discussed and still having problems. I was instructed to leave the drain pan unplugged to similate a defrost mode. Still no ice. Spoke with Eric this tie and he said someone would diagnose it by Friday 2/13/09. A man can to diagnose it and didn't even run the diagnostics check. Looked at the frige with my husband present and said conduit puddy was on something that should not be there. My husband being a licensed electrician said this guy did not know that the puddy was non conductive and would not cause any problems.
We paid him $65.00 and now he tells me that he will come back Monday or Tuesday and pull the Frige out of the cabinetry. All components are overhead in this frige and it does not need to come out of the cabinets. I am hesitant with this tech as he does not know a lot. I'd like to have Ken Stone back because he is the only tech who seemed to know what he was doing. I'm going to try and call him again today. I got a call from Jenn air on 2/12 from Alantia. I called her back but got a recording. on 2/13 I phoned Alantia again and she finally called me back. She was rude to say the least. She got the dates confused as she was trying to type what I was telling her. She told me I had 4 good years of service from this frige. I told her I was ready to hire an attorney because I had not had good service since the day it was put in. I simply got tired of calling every time I had a problem and could not miss any more work to get the problems solved. She also said that if a new frige was put in, I would have to pay for it. Guess what....little does she know...If I won the lottery on a Jenn - Air kitchen, I'd tell them to shove it! I'd rather have a kenmore! I've never had problems with their appliances. Stupid me....I wanted a modern looking stainless steel high end kitchen! Never again!

1. The water dispenser came on when we were not home and flooded the house, 2. The front stainless steel panel rusted through, 3. A part in the freezer broke causing it to freeze over which caused the fridge and freezer to stop working, 4. A part in the freezer panel burnt out and melted several plastic components.

We purchased a Jenn-Air side by side refrigerator freezer (JCD2389DE) at the Sears Outlet about five years ago. Fortunately we purchased a Sears maintenance agreement for that and our new Maytag dishwasher at the same time. The agreement cost about $380 for a three-year period. We recovered that cost within the first year.
I can't say enough good things about the Sears technicians. They were courteous, knowledgable, and very informative. I feel like they are almost family because they have made so many visits to our home to try to remedy the many problems of our Jenn-Air monster.
The dishwasher technician took the time to inform me of why my flatware was getting pitted and why my glasses had a film on them. After applying his wisdom, I have clean, sparkling glassware and no problems with pitting.
It took at least five technicians to solve the problems of my Jenn-Air freezing refrigerator items and thawing everything in the freezer. Sears cheerfully sent me a $250 check to cover loss of food.
As far as esthetic matters, the front of my freezer has permanent rust stains from the rusted metal under the plastic plate where water is dispensed. Also, the replace water filter light is always on after replacing the water filter, so I never know when to replace the filter again.
What have I learned? Never buy another Jenn-Air product. Always purchase a Sears maintenance agreement.

I have a built-in side by side Jennaire fridge/freezer that I paid about $6500. for. It is two years old. Three weeks ago the freezer door fell off because a bolt broke. The part that need replacing has been discontinued, so they are trying to find me a part that will fit. The repairman came by this morning to put the door back on but said the part did not fit. Now Jenneair is sending another part, hoping that will be the right one. This is aboslutely ridiculous! There is a law that says replacement parts have to be made for appliances for a certain number of years. Jennair is breaking the law by discontinuing parts on a two year old fridge.

Refrig: Model JFC2089HEP/Gas Range: Model JGS8860BDP. In 2006 we renovated our kitchen and upgraded to Jenn-Air refrigerator, slide in gas range and microwave oven. Refrigerator & range have been repaired under warranty 3x, and now are being repaired under a GE Service Contract. Unfortunately GE sends repairman who are not familiar with Jenn-Air products. Convection oven was replaced after 6 mos. and still does not perform any faster than the bake oven. Refrigerator control panel was replaced and 2 weeks later it went down. All refrigerator and freezer food spoiled. Ge reimbursed us a one time reimbursement of $100.
Very disappointing to have spent hard earned money on what we thought was quality and turned out to be substandard appliances. Jenn-Air advised they are only responsible for their appliances for 1 yr. In other words, they are selling appliances at top dollar and their only obligation is to manufacture appliances to perform for 1 yr. After that time, the consumer is left out to dry.
We asked Jenn Air to replace the refrigerator. It isn't their responsibility to do so. We wrote letters Jenn Air, Whirlpool (owners of Jenn Air) and GE. To date Jenn Air has offered $150 as a customer loyalty gesture as the refrigerator is now working and Whirlpool informed us we could call any repair service listed on Jenn Air website to service the convection oven, pay for the service call and advise Whirlpool of the findings, at which time they may consider reimbursement for parts, but would probably not do so as the appliances are no longer under warranty.

I bought one of their high end side-by-side counter depth refrigerator in 2002 and thinking Jenn Air has a relatively good reputation. Apprently I was wrong. In the last 3 months, (after the warranty expired) I have called for service 3 times. The first time, the defrost drainline is cloged, caseing water overflow to my kitchen hardwood floor. The second time, just a few weeks later, the ice maker will not stop making ice, causing overflow of ice cube.
This week, the refrigerator is not able to keep the cold temperature. The defrost timer and delay is dead. All sort of problems. I almost want to replace it with new, but I hate to add junk to the land fill just because some manufacturer waste the world's resource by making junk products. I will keep try to repair it until some day I can't handle it any more. I will not suggest Jenn Air to anyone.
If we continuous to let the unresponsible manufacturer to survive, we will end up filling up the land fill a lot faster. Not everyone has the patient to repair a piece of junk for too long.

My husband bought our first high-end appliance, a stainless steel Jenn Air French Door refrigerator 3 years ago. Labor day weekend, it stopped cooling, and Tuesday we called the store where we bought it. They gave us several authorized repair companies and a serviceman arrived the next day. The compressor was broken, which he reported back to the repair company. The repair company ordered the compressor the following day. It is now a week later, and the repair company has not received the compressor and said they do not where it is or where it is coming from.
In the meantime, I found out that our particular model is known for bad compressors. I contacted Jenn Air and they do not want to send another compressor, as it will probably arrive the same time as the one already ordered. If this part does not come today, we will have to endure another weekend, a total of two weeks without a refrigerator. And this compressor is under warranty!
I paid $101 for a service call, my retired 81 year old husband is running up and down stairs to the small frig in the basement (a cheap one that works!) and there seems to be no one accountable. This is not service, I am outraged, and I plan to put flyers all over town telling people not to buy Jenn Air. If I do not have this repaired by MOnday of next week, I will report again. Many thanks

I will not be quiet about my disappointment with this company either. High expence, low quality products are produced by Jenn-Air, I will tell everyone I know. My husband has had to take 2 days off so far and looks like there will be a couple more. It's so bad right now, we don't want to even deal with these people.

A part I need is NLA (no longer available). Part # is 61004139. I've been all over the i-net and haven't found anyone who stocks it. There is a new part number that works just fine for the discontinued part 61004139 Ice Enclosure. The new part number is 61004881 and is identical to the old and although Jennair won't say it will work because it is for revision 11 and not revision 10 but it is the identical tray and works like a charm.
The issue with the icemaker freezing was resolved with an updated water inlet tube that has a slit at the top and was taken care of under warranty. One thing to note is my refrigerator is a 1999 model. I have had to change out some parts but it is running like a charm.

My husband and I wanted to upgrade our kitchen appliances. We wanted to buy reliable stainless steel appliances. Our research told us that the Jenn Air fridge was a good one. We bought the fridge in Nov of 2005 for $2000. It was on sale from $2800. This is a very big investment for us. We don't have extra money for luxuries, so this was a sacrifice for us. On May 17, 2008, about 2 and a half years of owning the Jenn-Air fridge, it starts beeping every 2 minutes. Although, the fridge does have some freezing spots that we noticed right from the start (I've lost lots of vegetables) nothing else seems to be wrong with it. We tried unplugging it for an hour, it still beeps. We cleaned in and around it, still beeps.
We had a repair person out and his estimate to fix the problem was $500 or more. He called into his tech support to have them troubleshoot the problem. The part that they identified costs $300. Apparently, we have to replace the entire computer board that controls all the functions of the fridge. The repair person said that it might not even fix the problem. All of this, after ONLY 2.5 years. We can't believe that our fridge is broken after only 2.5 years. We feel cheated, taken advantage of, used, you name it. We feel that Jenn-Air is making a very substandard product and passing it off to unsuspecting consumers. We have our old 15 year old fridge in the basement that has never broken down.
Anyway, their customer service department could care less. We'd like them to admit to their mistake and replace the fridge or do the repair for free. thanks for reading this.

I will never purchase a Jenn-Air appliance again! We purchased a Jenn-Air side by side refrigerator (model#JCD2389DES) in 5/00 for $1700.00 and to date have spent $900.00 on repairs. The defrost timer has been replaced 3 times. When I contacted customer service they told me $900.00 in repairs was not excessive and they would not reimburse for any repairs.

I purchased a Jenn-Air refrigerator May 8, 2007. On June 14, 2007 I had to have a technician come out to repair my refrigerator. EVERYTHING in my refrigerator was completely frozen and had to be thrown away. The technician assured me the problem was fixed. Just 3 months later on September 11, 2007 a technician came out again to fix the same problem. Once again I had to throw everything in the refrigerator away. The technician told me the problem was fixed. It was not.
In fact, a technician came out again on October 9, 2007 and again on October 19, 2007. Both times the technician guaranteed the refrigerator was repaired. Today (April 2008) everything in my refrigerator is completely frozen once again. I had to throw away fruits, baby food, baby formula, meats, everything. The technician came and claims to have repaired the problem. This is the 5th time a technician has come out and claims to have fixed the problem. I don't believe it. It is absolutely ridiculous and Jenn-Air and Sears do not seem to care!

I purchase a Jenn Aire 48 built in refrigerator (model # JS48PPDBDA) for $6700 in June of 2006. - I have had warranty work done on this unit over a half dozen times, by authorized representitives, for the EXACT same problem. It is still not fixed. I have requested that a refund/exchange be made. They are still wanting to try to fix this unit - the last time Whirlpool's engineering dept created a rework that was supposed to have fixed the problem - 60 days later I am needing service again (for the same problem). I have lost $1000's in food, have had to leave my home because my refrigerator is SO LOUD that my children cannot sleep.
I have been patient, kind and understanding. I feel that it is only fair that they either refund the money or exchange the unit. The dates of service are as follows:10/24/06, 11/01/2006 (which caused me to be without a refrigerator over Thanksgiving serving 30 people),12/21/2006, 4/18/07, 4/26/07 (permagum was ordered from factory and was on b/o until 8/07)8/14/07,11/09/07, 11/30/07 and of course the call that I have for next week. I feel like I am being led on by Whirlpool. This purchase was made in the midst of Maytag being purchased by Whirlpool, and I am caught in the middle of Whirlpool not wanting to make good on one of Maytag's products.
So, today, I had another warranty call done for the EXACT same problem that I have had for over a year and a half. The technician, as usual, called their techline - well low and behold the rework that the engineers created before, did not work (I could have told them that), and they have created another one (oh goody!), that will be the cure all. The technician that was out told me he used to work for Maytag and apparently this is a known problem that has been going on for over 4 years and they have yet to figure out how to fix it.
My question is: Where is the consumer protection? I feel powerless against Whirlpool Corporation (which bought out Maytag and all their problems). I feel like this refrigerator is keeping me hostage.
The economic impact of all of this has been, $1000's in food, hotel costs, loss of time at work, and of course my initial purchase cost of $6700 for a refrigerator that does not work.

I bought a 48 inch Jenn-Air side-by-side built in refrigerator to the tune of $5,860. Approximately one month after we got it, the refrigerator began to make a horrible noise. The company we bought it from, S&S Appliance, came out and fixed it. Then it happened again - and again they came and fixed it. This went on for several months and finally S&S called in a Whirlpool expert from the Whirlpool plant in Tennessee. He did fix the rattle, but about 6 months later, icicles began to form in the freezer section. They offered to replace the defrost mechanism (as others on this website have cited problems with) and did so, but the icicles returned.
I was finally able to speak to a very NICE and helpful person in Tennessee and Whirlpool actually replaced the thing with a brand new refrigerator. For about a year, things have gone well, but 4 days ago, the NEW refrigerator began making icicles in the freezer, so now it is another service call. I bought the Jenn-Air to replace my old SubZero which worked perfectly for 22 years. Getting the new one in, taking it out again, and then putting the second new one in has created several large scratches in my hardwood floors in the kitchen (although S&S Appliance did pay for the damage the first time) and I dread the thought of perhaps having to remove this one too. I plan to try and get in touch with the Tennessee plant and what I would like is at least a partial refund and then I plan to go buy a basic refrigerator from SEARS!

I bought the french door refrigerator 2 years ago. The defrost stopped working. Customer svce only wanted to send a repairman out. I was able to narrow down the bad part to the control module. They gave me a Maytag part number, but it was back ordered until 2010. I was able to locate the exact part locally. I bought it and replaced it myself. But the part will not work. The part looks 99% identical except for a few components on the board. It is a newer version. I just spent $80 and the part (electronic) is not returnable. Funny how Maytag makes parts that do not work with their own products. I guess reading everyone's experience with Jenn Air I should be thankful to at least not be ripped off by the service. I guess I am stuck with at $2200 fridge that can only be defrosted manually. I still have my old Whirlpool I bought 15 years ago that still works. But Whilpool got bought my Maytag. Seems from my research Maytag, regardless of the model or appliance, now makes VERY FAILURE prone electronics.

We purchased a Jenn Air refrigerator in August of 2006 choosing this brand because of their reputation for high quality. After only thirteen months, it stopped cooling.
When we called about the warranty, we were connected to a company called T&E. They were unable to come out for 3 1/2 days.
That is unacceptable service. That is not service at all. If Jenn-Air products are as good as they are supposed to be, why are their service technicians so busy they can't make a call for 3 1/2 days?
We ended up calling a local repair provider and paid $350 for a new compressor. (Which was probably a bargain)

I had a new home built and decided to get the best appliances I could get assuming I would have fewer problems than with something cheaper. WRONG! I bought a Jenn-air refrigerator in Nov. 2001 and have had many problems with the ice maker. We finally decided not to use the ice maker anymore after water poured out of the freezer onto the wood kitchen floor. I was home and able to turn the water off. We had a repairman out twice he replaced a part in the ice maker, it made ice once then quit working again. We called him back out a second time but he said there was nothing more he could do (we had to pay for both service calls). I've also noticed there's a problem with the door seals. Since I now feel this unit is a safety hazard I will have to replace it when I can afford to, and since I am retired that won't be soon.
This was a very expensive unit and the service calls were not cheap. This has created a great deal of stress since I don't know when I can replace it.

Not happy! We purchased a Jenn Air refrigerator on 5/31/04 and now the control unit and the damper control are broken and it's going to cost $600.00 to fix! Jenn Air could care less, not helpful at all. They don't seem to stand behind their products.

Manufacturing defect in built-in 42" Jenn-Aire fridge needs a recall! The defect causes the defrost cycle to get faulty, leading to icicles in the freezer and the fan to stop working. When we called for warranty service, the service tech did not even come to the house. He described the problem over the phone--said he sees this all the time in Jenn-Aire's and that they make a special kit for the repair which we would need to order. A week later we were back scheduling with the service company and had to take the unit out of service for 3 days to get it repaired.
This is a known defect that requires a product recall, but Jenn-Air/Maytag will not own up to it. They claim it is a set of wild coincidences so frequent that they keep a kit handy to fix the problem, and their service techs don't even bother troubleshooting anymore.
Lost all food in freezer.

We purchased a new Jenn-Aire refrigerator/freezer with french doors in February 2005. After problems with the ice maker and seal on the doors (which we were told to live with), the compressor completely failed after 2-1/2 years. Thankfully, we had a 20-year-old Whirlpool in the garage (enduring 120 degree summers in AZ) that we were able to transfer our food to, so we avoided spoilage. The Jenn-Aire compressor is covered under warranty, so we'll be enduring this bad product for the time being.
Had it not been under warranty, we would have not considered investing the $600-700 (repair costs) in a substandard product, and it would have been curbside. We will NEVER buy anything Jenn-Aire, Maytag etc. Interestingly, we had a similarly bad experience with a Jenn Aire range that we were (thankfully) able to have returned to the store early on--replacing it with a trouble free Thermadoor.

Purchased refrigerator 6years ago; Have had several problems with the seals and have had 2 service calls for that problem. There has always been an ice build up on the roof of freezer, repair man said that was normal. Now the defroster no longer works; has been repaired 2 times. Service man is here for the third time. Freezer makes a lot of snowy-ice; when you open the door, water is dripping from the top. Refrigerator is not cold enough.
Loss of food too many times!!! Loss of time from work for service people to come to the house.

I have specified Maytag/Amana/Jenn-Air products in at least 5 houses that I've remodeled in the last ten years. This refrigerator, a stainless steel French Door with bottom freezer is the worst fridge I've ever had. It has now gone out three times in just two years. Plus, I've had to wait for numerous service calls that show up after the window of time for which I originally agreed. Last time it was all day and the tech finally showed up after 5 pm. This is absolutely the last Maytag/Jenn-Air product I buy. It has now cost me $3000 dollars for the unit and the repairs.

We purchased a JennAir, french door model refrigerator approximately 4 years ago. Exactly one month after the warranty expired, the compressor died. The repairman suggested I call the manufacturer who agreed to cover its replacement, minus the service call charge. I gladly agreed. Two additional years have nearly passed and, guess what? I discovered tonight that it's dead again. And, after reading this site and the many similar complaints, I'm doubtful I will be as lucky with customer service.
lost frozen goods

The refrigerator condenser/heat exchanger completely freezes up and the panels have to be removed from the freezer to defrost and remove the ice build up on mar.8 2007 a&e factory service came out my house and replaced 2parts sub defrost part#61005988 sub heater#61006199 total amount 332.15 on aug.30 2007 same problem this time they replaced sub defrost part# 61005988 same part this part shod have bean warranted for more then 90 days. this time amount was 283.62 i thank jenn-air shod pay for one repair.

My 17 month old Jenn aire side by side refrigerator fan motor needed to be replaced. Jenn aire certified technician told us Jenn aire installs a low amperage fan motor in order to maximize efficiency rating. Technician claimed he replaces lots of stock fan motors with a higher quality motor and once replaced, there are virtually no problems. I contacted Jenn aire and they told me the fan motor was not covered under the 5 year warranty and they were not aware of any issues with the stock motor. I would like to know if other consumers have had this experience and Jenn aire should take some responsibility.
The fan motor cost me $179 to replace. I am not happy with this as the unit was $2,300 and purchased 19 months ago

We built a new home in June 2004 and bought the Jenn-Air stainless refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom and the water dispenser inside. Very nice looking but the door doesn't hang straight and the repairmen hasn't been able to fix it after several tries. In the past 9 months it has started making a buzzing sound whenever it runs. So we've called the repairman to come back out. As long as he is at the house he also needs to fix the Maytag washing machine for the same problem in two years - it makes a loud noise and dances across the laundry room. The last repair for the washing machine was $175, one more of those and I may as well get a new machine; never a Maytag again though.
And while the repairman is here he needs to fix the Jenn-Air oven because the glass in the door is filled with dust particles and looks horrid. When I called about it I was told that the repairman would have to take it apart to clean it - as if that is acceptable. All of these appliances are less than 3 years old. I would not recommend purchasing Jenn-Air or Maytag products. I will never purchase from those companies. Our old Kenmore refrigerator lasted more than 20 years.

I thought that I would buy good quaility this time.NOT I purchased a side by side stainless steel refrigerator and a dual oven. Nothing but problems since the 1st week! They are only 14 months old. The igniters on the stove have to lighted with a match - the knobs all CAUGHT FIRE and mold comes out of my water/ice dispenser. Service has been out aprox.6 times for these problems. They have no problem asking for more money when it comes to extended warranties they do not honor.

We purchased a Jenn Aire Refrigerator and stove about two years ago. Both were terrible purchases. Notwithstanding our attempts at giving the gentlest care to the stove, the paint is chipping everywhere. The compressor on my 2.5 year old refrigerator died. I am incredulous at the poor quality of Jenn Aire, especially after paying so much money for such a highly regarded name brand label. The new compressor I need is about $550 - $600 installed.

I wish I had checked the Consumer Complaint website before I purchased my Jenn-Air refrigerator last year. Even though it seems I have been more fortunate than others who complained about Jenn-Air refrigerators, I would like to add my voice as a very dissatisfied customer. I have had service staff out twice within a few months of purchase; neither repairman was able to solve the problem of vibrating and rattling each time the motors, especially the compressor motor, start. It stops when I hold the doors shut tightly or re-adjust the inner shelves. Heaven forbid though, if I add items to the shelves - the result is again loud rattling and vibrating.
One service man actually suggested I should add some insulation to the bottom of the refrigerator; that would soften the noise! Fortunately, I am retired, and waiting for the service men is just an inconvenience, especially when they don't show up, and not a financial hardship.
I had to laugh out loud when I received the Jenn-Air Refrigerator Extended Service Request with their insert that states Your Maytag Dependability Plus Extended Service Plan Guarantees You Peace of Mind! I am taking my chances and hope the refrigerator will at least cool for a few more years. Needless to say, I will hang on to my now 17-year-old Kenmore in the garage which is humming softly and cooling perfectly - it's just not pretty any more. But as others I have found that beauty isn't everything.

We purchased a new Jennaire refrigerator in December 2005. Recently while cleaning it we noticed that the inside liner had cracked. Jennaire send out a repairman to look at it, but they want to patch the problem with a plastic adhesive rather than fix the liner. I'm afraid that saying ok to that will mess up any furture attempt to get it corrected properly. Plus, it will surely look patched afterwards. jennaire claims there is nothing else they can do.

We have a $2700 Jenn-air refrigerator. We bought it in the fall of 1999 and it came into service in jan 2000. The first problem we had with the fridge was that the shelves in the door would fall out when the door was opend. We called Jenn-air and the local service rep and were told that there was nothing that could be done so we have a $2700 firdge with shelves held in with tape. 3 years later when the service rep in our area changed we found that there was a fix and Jenn-air did know about it. It was no longer available. We have had to change 3 seperate electronic boards in the fridge and two of them had to be changed more than once (off warranty).
The major problem with the fridge is the way the water and ice is dispensed. The water is controled by a switch on the door which controls a valve which allows water to flow. There is no mechanical connection to the valve it operates electronically. We have experience the water coming on by itself with nobody at the switch. A serviceman told us that this was cause by yet another electronic board getting damp or wet and causing the electronic valve to come on as though someone had pushed the button.
When we left the house for 3 hours to visit friends we came back to our home to find our $2700 fridge pouring water all over our kitchen floor. The water running for three hours (or less) caused $25,000 damage to our hardwood floors in the Kitchen, Linoleum floors in adjacent rooms, baseboards and kitchen cabinets. The serviceman was not able to gaurnantee that even if the board was changed that it could not happen again. Jenn air takes no responsiblity for the incident even though this is a design flaw. I could understand a broken pipe or fitting but the ability, proven ability, that the water can turn on by itself and cause that much damage is unacceptable.
Jenn air offered us $1200 towards a new fridge but we would have the same problem. We have turned the water off to the fridge and only turn it on to produce ice occasionally, when we are home. To all Jenn air refrigerator owners who have in door dispensers I would strongly recommend turning off the water whenever you leave the house for any length of time. It took 5 months to get our kitchen and home back to original after the incident. Any contact with Jenn air has been very negative and they would not even listen to our story, even comments about who puts hardwood in the kitchen. I am sure that a kitchen sink faucet that can come on by itself would not be accepted.

We purchased a new Jenn Aire side-by-side refrigerator on April 20, 2000, for $1,731.00. In June, 2004, the refrigerator stopped cooling; the repairman advised it was a 'fried circuit board' (e.g. the defrost system controller) which was replaced at a cost of $196.31. After writing the company president, the corporate office called me, continuing to state they were not responsible and doing me a favor because electronic parts were not covered by the warranty. In a 'good faith effort,' Jenn Aire offered to pay half the repair cost.
On January 20, 2006, the refrigerator stopped cooling totally. The repairman advised it was a compressor failure. There is no use complaining to Jenn Aire/Maytag 'Customer Care' agents, their supervisors, or above; they appear to be burnt out by the shear number of dissatisfied customers complaining; some make you feel like you are trying to 'scam' them.
The Jenn Aire refrigerator I purchased in 2000 was expected to last at least 10 years; instead it lasted only 6 years and 9 months. I would be ashamed if I was the CEO of Jenn Aire/Maytag by producing refrigerators with that short of life expectancy, for the prices charged. What happened to the 20+ year refrigerator life expectancy?

I bought a Jenn-Air cabinet depth side by side refrigerator/freezer. It is only 7 years old. What junk! Week 2, clogged line to the ice/water dispenser; leaked all over kitchen floor. Several weeks later, same problem. Service cost me $75.00 each time. I don't remember why it was not covered under warranty? Several months later the drain line clogs and causes the bottom of freezer to freeze up. It has done this serval times in it's short life with me.
Since it is out of warranty, I figured out how to take the interior back panel off to clear the drain line myself. Finally a year ago I figured out that there is some sort of gooey sealant that drips off the fan inside the back panel and clogs the drain line. I removed all this mess and viola! no more clogging and no more having to remove a 1 thick block of ice off the freezer floor! These are not the only problems. Elevator shelves arrived with broken gears and one shelf cannot be adjusted at all. One fixed shelf (above crisper) has a broken support - since it is molded into the side of the refrigerator box - it cannot be repaired. Can't put anything heavy on this shelf; otherwise I can't open the crisper drawer because heavy food will collapse the shelf. Mind you I did not see any of this when the machine was delivered and now it is out of warranty.
Problems get worse. Sliding switches in refrigerator side mysteriously slide over to the right by themselves. The it stops cooling altogether. Repair agent comes out and says Maytag is aware of the problem - defective circuit board (new machines don't have this problem anymore); charges me $150.00 to replace. (Get this, he actually gets worried because I ask for the bad circuit board and tell him I am going to contact Maytag and tell them what he said!) Switches don't move by themselves anymore and all good. Until today, now it is not cooling anymore! This is ridiculous!!! My mom passed down a Hotpoint to her mom and it was passed down to an uncle. This Hotpoint is still working after 30 years!!! Maybe I can convince my uncle to pass it back over to me!
I have only lost food and time from work - probably not a big consequence to such a big corporation.

When remodeling my kitchen I purchased a Jenn-Air refrigerator. Within 6 months I had to make my service call. Since that time the refrigerator has been servcied at least every 6 months. I computer board has been replaced twice. In May 2006 the compressor was replaced and did not work and a follow-up service was done that related to the fluid.
Now the refrigerator is freezing everything. After the 3rd or 4th service call I requested that the entire unit be replaced. Jenn-Air refused. They forwarded me to a Home Depot representative who also stated that the unit it could not be replaced, and that they would forward me a check in the amount of $70.00 for the lost of food and any inconvenience. Needless to say, the $70.00 did not cover the costs of lost food nor did it put a dent in my inconvenience.
Now the unit is freezing everything. EVERYTHING in the freezer section and the refrigerator. I talked with a representative today and was given an incorrect phone number for a Home Depot representative. I called Jenn-Air back waited another 10 minutes and was finally given to correct telephone number for Home Depot. While waiting for them to answer my call, I searched the web-site and am writing this.
I WANT HOME EXPO OR JENN-AIR TO REPLACE THE UNIT. I HAVE LOST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS OF FOOD.
I am disabled and have a number of related illnesses. I have lost thousands of dollars in food. I have had to rearrange my schedule to accommodate these service calls.
It is essential that I be able to eat balanced meals. This latest problem has not allowed that to happen. This morning I went to eat my bran cereal and the milk was frozen. Last night I had to throw away all of the salad mixings because they were frozen. This refrig even freezes cheese and yoguart placed in the drawers or at the bottom of UNIT.

Thanksgiving evening I'm putting holiday food into my Jenn-Aire refrigerator that was purchased in November 2004. A two year old refrigerator that I paid $1800 and it does not work. Thank heavens for the 24 year old Kenmore in garage or I would have lost my food.
After reading the complaints listed under your email address I assume I will be spending my holiday week-end trying to find someone to fix it or even worse purchasing a new refrigerator. I guarantee you Jenn-Aire or Maytag will not be a consideration.

Bought the refigerator. It's been noisy, not easy to clean, and the freezer door had to be closed purposefully, not easily. Yesterday, I found a flood on my kitchen floor. And neither the freezer nor the refrigerator is working. Lost all my food and have to pay an extra 30.00 dollars to get them out before next week! High priced appliance-the most EXPENSIVE thing in our kitchen didn't even last 2 years. My old Kenmore went 15!

I purchased a Jenn-Air Stainless Steel Refrigerator in late 2002. By late 2005 the Stainless Steel exterior had completely rusted over.
I called Jenn-Air Customer Service who charged me for a powder they said would remove the rust. It did not. I called a year later in further frustration that my $1800 refrigerator was looking like a piece of garbage. They kindly told me they would do nothing for me.
The damage is so bad that I have to replace this refrigerator. The cost of replacing just the metal exterior would cost around $900.

Our Jenn-Aire refrigerator was bought in August 2004. Within 2 days, the freezer door would not close. Someone from the Maytag store came out and saw what a mess it was and agreed to exchange the refrigerator for a new one, but told me that I had to call the manufacturer. I called Maytag who would not okay the exchange and sent someone out to take a look at the refrigerator. They had to order ALL new parts for the freezer. The freezer door has never opened properly.
Two years later, the freezer starts making loud noises, and after a weekend away, the freezer and refrigerator were dead. I had to throw everything out. Two weeks later, a technician came out & said I needed a new compressor which had to be back-ordered. After being stood up twice and losing three work days a tech came out and said that there was nothing wrong with the compressor and left.
Within the week, the freezer door would not open. When I finally opened it everything had melted and for the 2nd time I had to throw all the food out. I now have a non-working freezer and the refrigerator is not keeping things cold.

We purchased a side by side Jenn-Aire refrigerator in 2003. The hinge on the refrigerator door has had to be replaced 3 times. Apparently even though the door is designed to hold items in its shelves the hinge cannot support the weight. We have been advised to put only very lightweight items in the door.
We have gone weeks inbetween replacement hinges with bricks piled in front of the refrigerator door to keep it closed.

I bought a Jenn Air refrigerator in April, 2005. By August, 2006, the compressor had broken. I called All Brands, their service supplier and they charged me $288 for a service call, that I was told would cost $80. I was also told the compressor was still a covered replacement part.
I called the Customer Care dept of All Brands in TN. They said Jenn Aire had added an extended compressor warrantee to my contract, and I was covered for parts and labor for 5 years. Their representative transferred my call to their regional office. The rep there told me the $288 was called a diagnostic charge, so it was not covered as labor!

I bought our refrigerator in 2001 from the Sears Outlet in San Diego. From the time we had it installed it did not work properly. The ice dispenser always made a loud noise when dispensing ice. Within the next few years the seals on the feezer portion did not always seal causing condensation which led to the door not sealing and the ice turning into water. This caused water to accumulate on our wood floor which ruins the wood flooring. This problem happened off and on for several years.
The facing on the freezer door below the water and ice dispenser has now corroded due to moisture getting in behind the door and is now rusting. The last problem we have been dealing with is the refrigerator does not cool anymore. We have now decided to get a knew refrigerator and now have to spend another $1000 plus to buy one. We were at the Sear store and told the sales person about our refrigerator and he acknowledged that the JennAir's they had on their floor were breaking down with parts breaking even with no use. He also told us that the refrigerators were not meant to last over 5 years. Additionally, He also told us that one company, I beleive he said was Whirlpool now owns JennAir, Kenmore LG and several other brands. I wondered if a monopoly is good or bad for consumers.

Jenn Air Refrigerator # JCD 2389DTW purchased for $1880.00 from authorized Factory Builder Store in 10/10/00 has had repeated problems and service needs. Service billls total $800.00 plus and refrigerator is still leaking & malfunctioning.
There is no contact with Maytag or Jenn Air available to consumer other than reps on telephone. There is a refusal to give info regarding upper Management.
Food loss; water to floor & ara; repeated threat of malfuntion & leakage to area.

Last November, we purchased all Jenn-Air appliances for the kitchen we were about to remodel. We paid over $6,000.00 for what we thought were very reliable products. In April most of the appliances were installed, including the refrigerator. In June the refrigerator stopped working and all the food that was inside was spoiled. At the time, we were told it was the fan and once it was replaced it should be working fine (1st service call). A few weeks later, once again, it defrosted by itself and the water damaged a bulb that needed to be replaced (2nd service call).
Again, all the food was wasted. Not long after that, the food on the right side of the refrigerator was freezing (milk, juice, water, etc.), there were icicles on the inside of the freezer door and condensation on the outside of the door, and the ice cubes were just a big block of ice. This time the service man said it was the insulation on the door that was inefficient and ordered a new door (3rd service call). Two and a half weeks later, two service men came to install the new door (4th service call). The problem was not resolved.
Last week, another sevice man came and removed the gasket and re-installed it (5th service call). The problem is STILL UNRESOLVED! We have called again just to be told that they will send another service man to repair the refrigerator. We have a useless $2,000 refrigerator (we can't keep any food in the freezer) and cannot afford to continue to take time from work to wait for yet another service call. After 5 service calls in 11 weeks, we continue to have the same problem and have patiently waited to have it resolved without any results. At this point we feel Jenn-Air should take responsibility and replace this defective refrigerator immediately.
Loss of food that was inside the entire refrigerator once and in the freezer twice. We are not able to keep food in the freezer at this point.

We decided to upgrade our refrigerator and go to the top-of-the-line, Jenn-Air made by Whirlpool. This has turned out to be a dasteredly mistake in judgement.
One of the primary reasons for purchasing this Jenn-Air model was so the grandchildren (15) would be able to access ice and water from the outside of the freezer compartment of this side-by-side model. However, this summer the ice dispenser has been out of the service since June. The local appliance service company has been to our home 3 times this summer and replaced parts but the unit still does not deliver ice.
By purchasing this Jenn-Air model JC02289AEA in February of 1999 we thought we would enjoy some comforts after being so frugle all our lives. Quit frankly we would have been better off to purchase a good ole Kenmore or Westinghouse.

I bought a top of the line refrigerator in 1998 with an extended warranty. My ice maker and water dispenser quit working after 2 years, the parts were recalled and are still on backorder 6 years later!! 3 days ago I opened a brand new bottle of milk that I had purchased the day before and it was sour. I was just about to take it back to the store and tell them off when I looked in the freezer and everything was thawed. I had some strange smells coming from there also.
As of today, I need to replace my kitchen floors as the ice-maker (that barely worked) has leaked water all over the floors and they are rotted. There is water in my crawlspace that produces mosquitos (even in winter time). Homeowners won't pay for the leak because they site faulty workmanship on the part of the manufacturer. Today I am going to buy a new fridge, ANYTHING EXCEPT FOR JENN-AIRE!

We purchased a Jenn-Air JCD2389GES side by side four years ago. We thought we were buying a quality refridgerator, with a name brand that was respectable and with the idea that you get what you pay for. We went ahead and spent $2200 on purchasing this and within a year noticed that it made noises, the refridgerator side didn't stay cold and the freezer side froze food that developed freezer burn with in a week. Just this past week the refrigerator was on the coldest setting and the food was slightly above room temperature. A hundred dollars of food had to be thrown away.

Product complaint: Jenn-Air refrigerator-freezer Mdl JCD2289ATB installed in completely remodeled new kitchen in Aug 1999 has been a complete lemon. Numerous service calls have been made: not cooling; not freezing; running constantly; defrost timer replaced after tiles in floor ruined because of leaking water. Dispenser on door not working--after two boards burned out in dispenser, factory trained technician diagnosed problem as possibly short in wiring in sidewall. Complete dispenser unit discontinued. Advised to replace refrigerator or live with product I have until something else goes wrong.
Costs have exceeded well over $200 and I have only a basic refrigerator now operating after paying top dollar for refrigerator with custom panels I paid cabinet maker to make to match kitchen. I believe I am due some monetary consideration from maker. At the least I believe other consumers should be forewarned.

My refrigerator compressor failed after a little over a year. Can't get service. Nobody cares. If you're prepared to be on hold for 30 minutes at a time to schedule a service call and wait all day for a repairman and hope he shows, then you'll have no complaints. Can't believe I spent good money for this lousy product with horrible customer service. Wish I had read all the other complaints first. Maytag is the parent company and will now be bought by Whirlpool. I have never had such a horrible experience with a company in my entire life. Buyer beware!!!
Lost 2 days from work so far waiting for a service technician. Still no resolution so it means even more time off from work. Nevermind all the food in my refrigerator that rotted.

Bought a new jennaire side by side stainless frig for $1800--wanted a top of the line unit as we like our beer cold etc. What we got was a continuing nightmare --seal leaks, bottom door foot will not stay on--ice forms in the refrigerator--temp control does not work--ice maker will not work--the thing is the biggest piece of junk there is and we've had it repaired numerous times under warranty and now we are stuck with it--i will never buy anything from this company again period and the only reason I am telling you this is to save some other poor souls from this unbelievably awful product.
I'm saving money for a new one and I'll make certain it's a proven model from a proven company--can't wait to throw this one in the trash where it belongs.

I purchased a Jenn Aire refrigerator andgas stove in Nov. 1999. The burners have never lit properly and the self-ignition switch on the groll part is broken soI use a match. The refrigerator had had shelves and the veetable drawer break. Now , for the second time in less than a year. the Ice/water dispensor went on theblitz . I arrived home with the water running, the kitchen filled with wqter that had run into a basement bedroom. I could not turn it off and finally turned of the water at the main valve.
The circuits burn out. The door in rom of the circuits was hot and I could smell electrical burning. My repair man says this is a real problem with JennAir and Maytag. Wich I could have my old GE back.
This resulted in mold and damage to carpets and sheet rock in the basement bedroom as well as a lot of time in cleanup of the kitchen

We bought Jennaire appliances, microwave, oven, refrigerator for our new home in 2001. The microwave was not working after two months and required a service call, and the refrigerator does not keep things cold enough even on coldest setting--milk sours before date, etc. Three times we have had the refrigerator worked on, and now the repair men say it is poor design and parts have to be changed. We must pay for it all! These appliances are junk, and I would not recommend them to anyone!!!!

We have a new Jenn-Air refrigerator-freezer, which has never functioned properly. During our kitchen re-model, we purchased Jenn-Air model # JS48CSDBDA (serial # 1275870EA) and installation was on May 24, 2004. The freezer has never worked consistently and we have had nine (9) repairs to date.
The installer was Yavapai Appliance Service (YAS) and they repaired the freezer on three (3) occasions in June and July. YAS then recommended we use Quality Maytag, Inc.(QMI) for repairs. QMI has repaired the freezer seven (7) times in August, September, and October. We have called Jenn-Airs toll free number on several occasions and they repeatedly refuse to replace this defective appliance. We spoke with Gina today (10-11-04) and she said Jenn-Air will continue to repair the appliance until the warranty runs out. This policy is totally unacceptable.
We demand replacement of our appliance within four weeks. No reasonable person would accept this level of manufacturing and repair.
We have lost food and time valued at approximately $2400.

Bought Jennair Refrigerator 4yrs ago. Ice maker does not make ice. Repairman came and said line was frozen and needed new electronic panel on front of machine replaced. @ days later called me and told me parts are no longer available. It is only 4 yrs old and it can't be repaired? Sounds like they are not a user friendly company. This was top of the line when we purchased it. I have a refrigerator in our barn that gets hit with a power washer at least 5 times a year, and it works great and it was just a little cheapy from Sams club. Go figure.
I will never buy from them again, we are in construction and I am making it a priority to let the builders in this area about the low quality of the Jennarie and not to recomend themt to their clients.
I will have to either buy under counter ice maker or keep buying bags of ice and dumping them into the ice bin. Or replace the refrigerator as it is really a junky thing. I am leaning towards replacement.

I built a new house nearly five year ago and put what i thought was the best appliances in it.I bought a stanless steel jennaire side by side refrigerator.Twice in the past five years in the middle of the night the water dispenser decided on it's on to come on.I have a family in the basement under the kitchen, ther was water running out around recessed light fixtures.I had to patch and paint part of the ceiling.Luckly the second time wasn't as bad,but still had water in the basement and had to replace the water valves and control board both times. The last time was a year ago and now on 2/3/04 everything stopped working.
I am feed up with Jennaire appliances,as far as i'am concerned it's all junk.
I'll do all the free advertising i can
and it won't be good.

I have recently remodeled my kitchen and purchased a Jenn-air refrigerator. Upon deliverly I realized that one of the vegetable drawers would not easliy open and close. Because the refrigerator cost almost $2000.00(it's stainless steel) I called the 1-800 #. They gave me a number of a repairman in my area. In speaking with him he informed me that if it wasn't an operational problem it would be at least a month before he could come. Still no sign of him 6 months later. At this point I have noticed that the ice gets stuck coming out and runs the motor that kicks the ice out continually until we notice it. Also the buttons on the front for ice and water are peeling off and the water comes out so slowly it's not even worth waiting for.
For the past month every time I try to call the 1-800# it is busy!! Have they changed their #? I are VERY disappointed in the quality of thier product and their customer service. Some friends of ours are remodeling and were thinking of Jenn-are products(they were wanting high quality). I quickly told them of the service problems and lucky for them they went with another brand. Looking forward to saving others any chance I get.

We bought a Jenn Aire refrigerator side by side with ice and water dispenser in the door in April 1999.We had a repairman work on it 4 times and then the store told us they would pick it up and bring us another one. They said if an item had been worked on 3 times in a certain amount of time it is considered a lemon. Well the next one worked fine for about a year and since then we have had nothing but trouble. I worked on the ice maker at least once a week trying to get it to make ice. I had trouble getting it to make the ice and then trouble getting it to dispense the ice.
We finally got up one morning in June of this year and the refrigerator part was warm so I called a repairman. The heater that defrosted the freezer had went bad. I also had him install a new ice maker. Last week I got up with the same problem. Only two months later. He installed some kind of computer board that supposedly told the heater to defrost. I was charged an $85.00 service charge each time and the total bill for both repairs was almost $400.00. I think this kind of expense is ridiculous for a product that is only 4 years old and that was so expensive. I bought this product thinking it was top of the line and I have been very disappointed in the performance.
