Chris of New Hope, PA December 18, 2009

The Home Depot makes it completely impossible to pay a certain kind (home improvement loan) of account online. I pay all my credit accounts online. The Home Depot is certainly a large-enough company to facilitate this type of transaction; and in fact, they do, for all but this type of account. When collectors from CITI (who apparently own the loan) call me, I always ask them WHY cant I just log on to Home Depot's site and pay my loan. Their answer is always the maddeningly inane "This type of account cannot be paid online". Which is not an answer to the question of "WHY?"!!

I understand that in the world of home finance, loans are sold to other institutions. Such is the case with both of my mortgages. In each of those cases however, I was notified in writing and am able to pay the new loan-holder online. What's with the secrecy with Home Depot? IS there some gain in them continuing to send me statements with constantly changing due dates on behalf of the true lender, making their payment cycle so hard to track, and pocketing late fees mothly as a result?

Clark of new market, MN December 5, 2009

The credit company charged a late fee on my account on 8/31. My internet payment arrived on 9/1, which is the date I was told my payments would be due when I first opened the account. They refused to refund the late fee because they said I complained too late.

Jennifer of Highland Lakes, NJ November 19, 2009

I received my invoice this month and noticed one of my promo balances ended and I was hit with over 200 in finance charges. I called Home depot's 800 credit card # to see if they would extend my promo period so I had a little more time to pay it off. The woman I spoke to was extremely sarcastic, and rude. I explained that I spend thousands in Home Depot all the time and she can look at my acct and see that and see that I pay on time. She said "because people like you can't pay your promo balances on time before they expire doesn't mean that's our problem and we need to do anything to help you". I couldn't beleive how rude she was, I said "So you're telling me you'd rather me go shop at Lowes or another store like that rather than spending all the money i do at Home Depot because you're not willing to help me out?" She said I could do what I wanted, that there was nothing she was going to do for me. I'm not only upset about the fact that I spend thousands and thousands at this store between my card and my husbands, but also because of how rudely I was treated. I know if this woman wanted to she could have done something to remedy the situation and had a happy customer on her hands. Instead she was rude and obnoxious and I will NEVER shop at Home Depot again.

Barbara of Reisterstown, MD November 3, 2009

I made an electronic check phone payment on 10/19/2009. My bill was not due until 10/23/2009 so it was paid four days in advance. I called to check the amount I had left on the card and the prompt told me that my payment was not yet received. I went online and printed a copy of the electronic check made out to Home Depot and I also printed out a copy of my band statement that showed that it indeed went through as the electronic check # matched the check # on my account. I took the copies to the Westminster Maryland Home Depot Office and showed them what was going on and they called their own customer service and the faxed them a copy of the electronic check and the date it was cashed. A few days later I called to see if it have been straightened out and I was told by a Customer Service Rep that they had no record of a fax from the Westminster store. So, I faxed it from my home. It is now November 3rd and they still have no record of the two faxes and have sent me a bill with a late fee assessed and have put my account in default and raised my percentage rate to 29.9 percent. I am going to file a complaint with The Consumer Protection Agency

Peggy of Temple, TX October 23, 2009

I made an electronic payment on 10-19-2009 on my Home Depot account. My bank gave me a confirmation number showing the funds had been transfered. On the same day, Home Depot charged me a late fee of 39.00, si I called them and they tried to blame my bank. They agreed to remove the late fee, but they refuse to remove the record of a late payment from my account and they say it will be reported as a late payment to the credit reporting companies. I called my bank and they told me Home Depot and received my payment and confirmed it on 10-19-2009 which was the payment due date. My bank added that they could not have given me a confirmation number unless and until the payee had acknowledged the receipt of the funds. Home Depot is penalizing me for their failure to post my payment in a timely fashion. I made my payment on the due date, received confirmation of it, and they still refuse to remove the late payment notice from my account. I also found out they have been charging me 46.69 a year for what they call a "Balance Protection Fee" (Credit Life) which I never signed up for or authorized. Of course, they couldn't do anything about that, I have to call another number to address that issue.

sue of sachse, TX October 18, 2009

Home Depot balance paid and then they billed me for 69.39, interest they say, my balance was paid in full....before the due date. Loan sharks?????????? We will be closing our accounts, for good. Lowes, here we come.

Carl of Apopka, FL October 16, 2009

We were in a bind, and had to take out a line of credit last summer to fix our air-conditioning. We took out a line of credit to have our system replaced (+/- 6,000). After the grace period ran out, they GOUGED us with +/- 25% interest. Then, I took out a consumer loan with my credit union to pay off the Home Depot balance as soon as I could. Approx. three or four weeks ago, I paid off the ENTIRE balance. We then had +/- 500 credit on the account. Two weeks ago we closed the account, and asked for a check to be sent to us. Even after numerous e-mails, and phone calls requesting our check, we are STILL waiting.

Juan of Florence, KY October 13, 2009

I applied for a credit card account while at Home Depot after being solicited by the sales rep to do so for a "12 months same as cash" promotion. After the sales rep entered all of my credit information into the computer, and took my driver license, a message came up on his computer asking that he call a number.

The sales rep called the number and spoke with a rep from the credit card company and the credit rep asked to speak to me. I get on the phone and she says that she needs to first ask me 4 questions before she can approve my account. (Keep in my mind that my credit score is 730 and I have never been turned down for credit before and have a few revolving accounts with retailers) I then tell her that my English is not very good and could she maybe talk to my wife who was with me and she said no, she said she can get an interpreter on the line to help.

Once the translator came on the line, I had some difficulty hearing due to the conference call and trouble understanding the dialect of the translator. They both begin to ask me questions like "What counties have I been associated with in the past" and they also read a list of counties and asking me to verify which one I live in. I was confused by the question of them saying "I have been associated with" rather than simply to say "I have lived in before" (my wife later explained to me that it was maybe just a more professional form of communication) and when I told the rep that I did not understand the question she said "pay attention!" and then she asked another question and said for me to state if I am "associated with the numbers 6915."

I ask her to repeat the question because I did not understand. I was becoming frustrated with not understanding her questions, and still not understanding why I was even being asked these questions or how it related to my application for credit. I told her this and I also said "I had no problem in buying my house, so why is it so hard to open an account with Home Depot." She said to me sternly that "I applied for the credit and it is my responsibility to answer all of her questions."

My wife was with me and she became frustrated as well (it had been over 15 minutes now) and I told my wife what they were asking. I told her they want to know what "6915" is and she said "that is the number of our first apt." and then my wife said to me, "Why are they asking that? You live in Boone County and you have for 3 years. Do they need to know that you lived in Fayette County before when we were in another city?" I honestly did not know the name of the county for when we first lived in Lexington, KY and I have only lived in the US for about 5 years anyway. When I said this to the rep, "Before I lived in Fayette County, is that what you are asking?" she tells me then that I am being "coached" by my wife and therefore would not get to have a credit card.

I gave the phone to the home depot sales rep and he then talks to the credit rep and he also says to her that he has never had to put anyone through this type of interrogation before for a card. He said that the information will come up either "approved" or not when he enters the info and he wanted to know why they had to ask so many questions. They would not answer. My wife asked him to get the name of the credit rep so she and I could file a complaint and she did not give her name to him but did give a phone number that I could call.

I feel that I was being discriminated against for my race, and by my last name sounding foreign. My credit is excellent and there would be absolutely no reason to be denied credit, and especially no reason for me to have to be interrogated about prior addresses when this is not done to other applicants for the same card. If you look at my credit report you will see that I have excellent credit.

I need some sort of explanation as to why I was put through those questions. It seems unfair. I showed the sales rep at the store my driver license, my green card and my social security card even. He even told this to the credit rep. I think I have been discriminated against and will look at how I can file a complaint.

Home Depot is disontinuing their Mastercard Rewards program (for all customers). Accounts will be closed as of October 31, 2009 whether or not you have a balance due. This will be reported to the credit reporting agencies with a notation of "account closed by grantor." This will reflect negatively on individuals credit reports due to one; having an account closed by the grantor; two, having an account closed with a balance due.

Karin of Tucson, AZ September 28, 2009

On September 20th our hot water heater stopped producing hot water and tripped the circuit breaker whenever we attempted to turn it back on. I called Home Depot to order a new one and the promised "that day" installation on September 22nd, using my Home Depot credit card to pay for everything. Other than a surly clerk on the other end of the phone at Home Depot and again at their subcontractor, and an inexplicable 100 increase in the amount of the installation charges by the time it got to the sub, everything went as well as can be expected although the poor lone installer had a very difficult time installing the new HWH in a tiny alcove 4 feet above the ground. Sending him help would have cost an additional 100 I was told.

Three days after the installation I received a letter from Home Depot Credit services informing me that my interest rate was raised to 30% and my credit limit was reduced to 300 BELOW the charge for the recent services!! I can hardly wait to see if my next bill has over limit fees attached. If it does, I am going to walk from the entire charge! I am supposed to have six months to pay it off with no interest and no required monthly minimum payments. I had used the card only once before and paid it in full.

I have never been late for any payment, have never been over the limit due to a charge authorized by me on any card, have always paid more than the amount due and before the due date on all my cards. I do not deserve this treatment and I am not alone! The banks seem to be racing to get their pound of flesh before February 2010; better the law was made effective immediately!
