Or, as Ann of Philadelpia puts it:
Others we've heard from recently would probably agree ... Danny of LaCombe, LA July 7, 2009 Bought a new high efficiency front load Profile GE washer and Electric Drier. These things are the same kind of energy efficient as water saver toilets. They use 50% less water but you have to cycle them 4 times to get them to work. Do the math. The cycle times on these things are measured in hours instead of minutes. Immediately started getting mildew smelling clothes. Called for service and they cleaned the trap that is hidden in the front under a service panel that is difficult to get to. Problem persisted. Service called. Same result. Take a shower and dry off and you smell like old sneakers! Calling GE was useless as the bozos they send out don't know enough to install them much less service them. They are parts changers. This machine seems to know the value and color of clothes as anytime you put something expensive and white in it, you can be sure it will come out with brown grease stains on it. If you put in some expensive color item it will decide that now would be a good time to dump some little cache of bleach that it has been hiding from 5 loads ago. Many of our clothes develop small holes for no apparent reason. It only happens to your favorites. The drier just stopped turning altogether and the motor would trip out on thermal overload. I used to have an appliance repair business so even though it was in warranty, I was fed up with their so called service and tore into it myself. Everything spun freely. I tested all parts and all function tested fine. Put it back together and it works fine. I HATE intermittant problems. Mine is about two years old and I have not encountered the transmission or gasket problem yet. I think it's time to donate these things to charity or sell them cheap with a disclaimer and abandon GE. By the way, LG is no better on there appliances or service. Robert of Wilson, NC July 1, 2009 End of Feb 2007/early March 2007: purchased a GE Top Load Washing machine model # WDSR2080G2WW to replace our 30 year old Hotpoint. Our Hotpoint was used daily and never had a service call until it died after 30 years of use. End of Feb/Early March 08: GE Washer transmission, motor, and brakes were replaced, parts and labor under warranty. April 09: transmission was replaced again, but this time we had to pay 125 for labor. July 1, 09: transmission has died. The family-owned business we purchased the washer from directed us to call 1-800-GE-Cares and report it as a "lemon". GE employee was sympathetic but said we needed to call the Customer Care Phone Center at 1-800-626-2001. Their hours are 8am-5pm EST M-F and 9am-4pm EST Saturday. This is the third transmission failure in a washing machine we've had barely 2.5 years. Our research reveals that transmission failures were not uncommon with GE Washers in the late '90's and into the early 2000's, but our experience indicates that chronic transmission problems still exist. Faulty parts? Faulty design? Regardless, this is unacceptable. After the first few months of ownership, the washer developed a constant squeaking on spin cycle that could be heard several rooms away and a strong mechanical burning smell. A few months after installing the 2nd transmission, the noise and smell returned. Noise and smell were constant after 3rd transmission was installed and it burned out completely after only 2-3 months. Knob to set water level also broke off after two years and was replaced the same time the 2nd transmission was replaced. Mark of Juniata, NE June 27, 2009 GE Front Load Washing Machine Model No. WCVH6270FWW purchased on 04.02.2006 to replace a recalled Maytag front load machine, turns out to be nothing but junk. After only 3-years, what I would refer to as the inner tub spindle (which is a sub part to item #311 on the parts diagram) totally fell apart. We're talking about a 400-500 part, not counting the labor. Come on! 3-Years! My parents have a Maytag that is going on 30-years, washing clothes for 7 children. Sorry GE, you will not be getting our next washing machine purchase. Oh, by the way, did I mention that only 2-months ago we replaced our GE washing machine that lasted 9-years with 4 repair jobs in between. After the 4th repair, we vowed that if it breaks down again, it will get replaced. Well, it got replaced all right.... not with GE. We purchased Bosch this time. Ronna of Lexington, MA June 19, 2009 I bought a GE 2009 Harmony top loading washing machine this March and it does not clean clothes. In order to get anything remotely clean I have to wash something 5 times. I had the repair person out to my house two times. They never called to even tell me he was coming. USELESS! The customer service reps at GE were worse. Kept passing the buck, saying only the technician says the machine works according to the specifications. IT DOES NOT WASH CLOTHES. PLEASE LET OTHERS KNOW, IT COST US 1000. and IT IS THE WORSE WASHING MACHINE i HAVE EVER OWNED OR USED. A WASTE OF MONEY AND ENERGY AND WATER. If WE ARE WASHING THINGS 4 OR 5 TIMES HOW GOOD CAN THAT BE? tammie of walnut ridge, AR June 19, 2009 Same as others. My front load washer is junk. It tears small holes in my clothes, the front seal is torn so it leaks, and half the time I have to clean the filter and respin the clothes 2 or three times. The inside of it stinks. I HATE THIS WASHER! IT IS A RIP OFF, NO MORE GE'S FOR ME! kathleen of fairview, PA June 15, 2009 G.E.Profile Washer- purchased in 6/06 the glass top lid shattered for no reason. Shards of glass everywhere. They would only replace the lid and refused to replace the unit stating it was a freak situation and assured us it would NEVER happen again. On 6/09 the exact same thing happened. They dont have a clue why and refuses to replace the unit. Glenn of ., VA June 9, 2009 Non-working GE Washer bought in May 2009 08 June 2009. I am very disappointed, frustrated and angry, since I am Lied and cheated to by GE. The washer does not work. Worked twice and then stopped working, now fills with water for 5 seconds then stops with the lights on. I am an Army officer, Major, recently returned from the Iraq war and purchased a house. In one year I will redeploy to Afghanistan. Decided to buy American products and was very disappointed with a GE product. Essentially, I have a non-working new GE washer full of clothes and water from a few days ago. Purchased the GE washer in good faith to use at my convenience not GE's, now given the runaround by customer service. Don't have the time to wait half a day for a repairman or wait days for a part. Spent half a day with customer service, took time from a military course I am attending talking to customer service, used up my cell phone minutes and even more frustrated with GE after talking to customer service. I NEED MY WASHER REPLACED! Before, I was going to purchase many GE products, but now I do not trust company or products. It is not a company of honor, integrity, courage and character. ** GE, I expect you to stand up and do the right thing of honor, integrity, courage, character and replace the washer with no inconvenienced to me. I have had enough! ** Unfortunately, what GE will do is to play additional games, give me the runaround, quote policy, wait out my warranty, try to wear me done, and furthermore lie, cheat, steal and take advantage of a US military veteran returning from Iraq and who is soon redeploying to Afghanistan. **GE, I have every full intention to send this issue where ever it needs to go as long as it takes from the American public, Pentagon and Whitehouse in order to have my non-working new GE washer replaced. V/r, Glenn Juman Brenda of East Peoria, IL June 8, 2009 After only a year and a half our 700.00 front load washer is junk. After the GE serviceman looked at it he told us the tub was out of round and the gasket was torn. This is why it started to smoke and make a very loud noise. Customer service at first said they would cover parts and labor, when I called to comfirm this I was told the same. Then when it came to the serviceman fixing it they changed their minds. Now they will only pay for parts and we have to cover the labor which is 250.00 plus. Evaugh at GE was very rude. She went as far to say she had no bosses and didnt know the home office phone number or who was the CEO of GE. Now we will never buy another GE product no matter what it is. GE really has fallen into that class of junk appliances. Laura of Bellevue, WA June 7, 2009 GE Adora Washer Model WHDVH626FWW, Serial # GL201098T On many occasions this washer has some how caught one or more pieces of clothing, usually something of a silky texture and it literally tears it to shreads during the spin cycle. Of note there is also grease present on the clothing. I am unable to identiy what triggers this since it has happened with small loads, medium loads and full loads in no set pattern. In researching this problem on line I see that it is quite widespread with no resolution presented from Home Depot or GE who claim there is nothing wrong with the washer. Clearly there is, a washing machine should wash clothes not destroy them. This not an isolated complaint since I seen dozens of postings with the complaints I have expressed here. The spin cycle is also quite more vigorous than one might expect. If anything is placed on the washer, such as a heavy bottle of fabric softner the vibrations will literally move the bottle off on the floor. It is also extremly noisy and has especially long cycle times. I don't like that, but could live with it. The destruction of clothes is something that I can not tolerate. I am hoping that you can help with next steps to have this resolved. Washers as you know are quite expensive and not something you buy for long periods of time. I trusted GE and Home Depot and have been sorely disappointed. Mary of Cinti, OH June 4, 2009 A few months ago, my son purchased for me a GE Profile High-Efficiency Washing machine WPGT9150HWW. Having used many different washing machines throughout my life, this has to be the worst. I couldn't believe it when I took out my first load of wash. The clothes come out all wrinkled and twisted. Sweaters are matted. Someone needs to talk with the Chief Engineer of their appliance dept. THIS IS A VERY POORLY DESIGNED MACHINE AND THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW THIS. Thank you, Report Your Experience
