Or, as Ann of Philadelpia puts it:
Others we've heard from recently would probably agree ... Ann of Virginia Beach, VA September 27, 2009 Does not spin the water out of the clothes such that they can be place in the dryer. Sopping wet loads. The spin cycle cannot be repeated, you must run the wash cycle from the beginning. As far as can tell, there is no fix for this horrible, defective product. Liz of Georgetown, MA September 24, 2009 Very simply, GE washers and dryers are horrible!! The washing machine doesn't wash and the dryer doesn't dry. Brand new two years ago and my clothes at first were treated to stripes of oil and grease (had to throw some really nice stuff out!) and now that that has ended (took 6 months, intermittent) the washer never delivers me any clean clothes. I wash loads twice. The dryer is useless since it takes 24 hours to dry one load. In the summer, that sometimes makes the clothes smell sour. The lint builds up around the seal in the dryer door and needs to be cleaned after each load. Crummy and double yucko. No more GE for me. Suzanne of Silver Spring, MD September 21, 2009 Bought a GE Adora washer/dryer in 2006, but due to renovation work did not start using them for another year, mid 2007. Started having problems within a few months: clothes not spun dry, but heavy with water; timer off, so showing "1" minute to go for perhaps 30 minutes-lost count; mold growing in basket and rubber lining as a result of the water not emptying; machine not starting, tho it lights up with "Door Locked". Rubber "tire" around face of drum -I can't understand the drawings of the manual online of parts, so I don't see it's actual name-this has a big tear in it, so THIS is the reason my floor keeps getting puddles. Moldy smelling clothes that I have to wash AGAIN, torn clothing-at least 8 items now-probably 400 worth. Having to run machine numerous times to spin water out of clothing-and not even being able to be sure it would work. That process takes at least 18 minutes-can't just put it on "spin"-must rinse and spin. Spent time and money going to a coin laundromat as a result. Many clothes coming out with spots as if I put in bleach-but I never do. Some clothes have fading sort of bleached areas as well. don of delaware, OH September 15, 2009 We bought our GE washer 17 months ago yesterday it stoped spinning on any cycle.today i thougt i might look on line for some ideas on what could be the problem and maybe i could fix or get it fixed.this site is the first i stumbled apon and after reading about so many GE washer problems and responses the other consumers have had i thank to fix or have fix would be the beganinig of lots of wasted time and money.ill buy new but not GE.Is the GE factory on wall street? Donny of Atlanta, GA September 15, 2009 I bought a G.E. front loader washer and dryer from this place, also extended warranty. The cabinet of the washer started falling apart-rust forming on the outside around the door-detergent despencer drawer broken--leftover bleach that did'nt cycle comlpetely from previous load-ruined some of the following load--leaking-crack in the control panel-the handle on the door had to glued back on. The Dryer catches a small object when it makes a revolution getting hung between the cabinet ahd the drum and makes a thumping sound--brunt places on my linens and some clothes that look like little loops or branded places on them. warranty only covered mechanical-Appliancesmart hung up phone on me even though i sent them pleanty of bussiness before this. G.E. sent tech. 3 times he suggested full replacement on both. G. E. gave me the run-a-round.The set is 2 yrs old and I have been trying to get something done for over a yr. now meanwhile the rust has spread more on the outside of the machine. I expected when i upgraded to these appliances to get at least 10-12 yrs out of them and now I am very fustrated and always had good luck with G.E. and all my major appliances have thier name on them, but I will NEVER buy another G.E. product Todd of Moody, AL September 1, 2009 We purchased several GE appliances, including a washer, dryer, Range, and a refrigerator from Lowes. Almost immediately we had to call service on our washer. The technician informed us that our extended service contract was through Lowes and not GE so we cancelled the Lowes contract and bought a GE service contract for all the appliances at a cost of over 1000 because we wanted GE service, rather than some local contractor. We have since had numerous service calls on all of the appliances. Don (not a good sign when you are on a first name basis with your GE service guy) has been great, but getting him here is almost impossible. The last time we called for service on our refrigerator for not cooling properly we were quite surprised when a local service company (A&E Appliance Repair) showed up, unannounced, to handle the call. He replaced a thermistor but broke a cover in the process and said he would come back to replace it. The cover arrived in the mail then more than a week later we arrived home from shopping to find an A&E truck sitting in front of the house waiting to come in and install the new cover. Now we are having more trouble with the refrigerator. Typical of all the others, it doesn't cool properly, the ice/water dispenser is intermittent, and it is making a high pitched whining noise from the fan. When I call GE, I am transferred to someone with Assurant Solutions in India who tells me I can only be serviced by A&E because they serviced the original problem. BUT I DIDN"T WANT A&E TO SERVICE IT EVER! That was the reason I paid 1000 for GE service. Christina of Atlanta , GA August 31, 2009 I,like so many others, have had the worse experience ever with the GE Front Loader Washer. I replaced my previous set ONLY because I wanted the newer, updated, water-saving front loading sets, but instead I've received frustration, stress, humiliation, larger water bills and larger electricity bills! The washer doesn't spin correctly, it doesn't drain correctly and sometimes it leaks! I have not been happy with my washer from day 1 and I have never been so dis-satisfied with a product as I am now. GE charges over 70 to "look" at it, and other service repairers won't and don't work or fix GE Front loaders because of all of the problems! When the repairers complain of a product, you know there is a problem! It seems to me that the only benifit from this washer is to GE for the money of the purchase and again on the back-end of the amount of money that they make from servicing their horrible product. Financially, due to the non-spinning, and non-draining of my washer, I literally have to wash each small load at least 5 times just to be able to drain them enough to dry. Therefore, my water and electricity bill has grown TREMENDOUSLY. I have purchased more Tide detergent in the last 8 months than I've had to in the last 3 years! And now, I am forced to Drive to a nearby laundermat to wash my clothes in a public washer because it has stopped spinning altogether. Mentally-I am drained. Defeated. I have been stressed, frustrated, and humiliated (I sold my former set to a friend for 100- it works great, while I've updated to a nightmare)! I will NEVER make the mistake of purchasing another product from GE again. Coni of Saskatoon, SK August 24, 2009 I bought the GE Adora Washer and Dryer summer of 2007. The Washer has been a complete disaster. About two months after owning it, it was making horrible sounds, wasn't spinning properly and kept stopping mid cycle, shorting out. A repair man came and said it was a computer issue, so fixed something on the computer panel. It was still having the same issues after that and one day we were sitting in the house and smelt "fire", the laundry room was completely filled with smoke. My husband and I frantically grabbed our baby from her crib and I went outside while he tried to quickly figure out the cause of the fire before calling the fire dept. He found it was coming from the washer. We stopped the washer. I phoned for a repair man to come. He said "what do you mean it started on fire", like he didn't believe me. He looked it over and said it looked "fine" and fixed the belt. It seemed to work okay after that. A couple of uses later, it was up to the same old thing. The repair person couldn't find anything wrong with it and I almost felt like they were trying to convince me it was my imagination. Now, it's a month off warranty and it completely stopped working. I phoned a new appliance repair company to come look at it. He told me that the bearing was completely unusable and that it looked like it once burnt out. He asked if it ever smoked or seemed to start on fire....to which I replied "uh..yeah"...he said it should have been replaced then and couldn't believe I got the use out of it I did after that. He said he could fix it for around 600. Home Depot said they don't accept returns or liability and to deal with GE. GE said it's off warranty and not their problem. I challenged that it was their problem because it should have been repaired while under warranty. I'm not getting anywhere. This whole situation is frustrating. I now have an unusable washer and am not sure if I should continue to fight this, fix the darn thing or just go out and buy a new one. I haven't even used this one for 18 months, so it's cost me almost 100/month to use it if I scrap the washer. Gwen of Midway, FL August 24, 2009 Oh how I wished that I had read this site before my purchase, that hindsight is always 20/20. As stated by so many consumers before me, GE Appliances are useless. I puchased my machine brand new, straight out of the box and it broken down one week later. Yes, you heard correctly, one week. It took about a week to hear from a service man and another two to three weeks to received the part. The machine worked for a little over one year and broke down again with the same problem. Imagine that, it worked longer enough until the manufacture warranty expired. I'm told by Home Depot which is where I purchase the machine to call GE, GE tells me to call Home Depot and see what they will do. Yes, you guess it, the blame game is being played. I asked that the machine be returned and another one be sent to me, but I was told that I had to have GE look at it first. You can usually take back any item within 30 days so why could I not return this item? I spoke with Natasha and she stated that they have to treat all of their customers fair. I nearly failed out of my chair, did she say fair? I was not asking for anything extradonary, I was simply asking that the machine I paid for work. She proceed to tell me that I should have purchased an extended warranty. I asked for her supervisor (Mr. Wilson) and he told me that Natasha was correct. I guess it's the norm with the company to blame the customer for "shottie" appliances. Let's get this straight, pay for a machine that's poorly made, and then let us squeeze you for more money for a warranty. As I'm discovering, I think that GE is fully aware of the poor craftmenship of their products and eagerly pushes the purchase of warranties. This is the company policy as I preceive it: Sell a product that is guarantee to break down shortly after purchase; request that the consumer buy a warranty and if they do not, too bad, they are on their own. With so many complaints, why is this company not investigated for better practices? GE will continue to operate in the manner it has if no officials step in. I've purchased two machines before the GE purchase, one lasted ten years and the other one lasted twelve years, yet GE wishes to push, "it's man made and things can break". Well if you know that, required more from your engineers not the consumer. Carol of Callaway, VA August 7, 2009 GE front load washer. Gasket tore with no sign of cause- no sharp objects found. Through the one year that we have had washer, many items of clothing have had rips and tears when they came out of washer- again no apparent reason. Water spilled out resulting in damage to floor/ lower level's ceiling. New gasket 150 + repair cost. Clothing items that were ripped were not repairable. Report Your Experience
