GE, Kenmore Recall Microwave Combo Wall Ovens

Angela of Monessen, PA October 28, 2009

Help. the time counts down but the unit does not run. What the hay. it's only three years old.

David of Rock Hill, SC October 28, 2009

GE Microwave Space Saver Profile model JVM1860WD 001 This unit had replaced a faulty GE microwave with a discount upgrade by GE when I purchased my house in 2000. Since then recently the microwave has turned on by itself and also beeped continiously and the key pad locks. I have reset the power and threw the breaker but still it reets and does the same thing. I looked online and found that other recalls but not my specefic model same issues and catching fire. So far my microwave has not done that.

My ge microwave oven model jvm 1740 stopped heating when it was only 18 months old. This is 6 months beyond the warrenty date. They offered me a free magnetron replacement but I must pay 85 for the service trip charge plus labor charges. This is ridiculous a microwave should last longer than 18 months. This is not acceptable. Can you help me. Basically their offer is nothing. Many others have had this same failure I'm not alone. Can you be of help?

Ge JES831WF001 microwave turns on by itself. screen says ipot gets hot inside. may turn on at any time plugged in.

Gerry of Wilmington , DE October 19, 2009

I have a GE Profile Microwave/Oven Combo unit which came part of a new house I purchased in mid-2007. About 2 weeks ago (around 10/9/09) my son walked by the microwave and indicated a humming sound was coming from it and we also noticed a burning wire/rubber smell. When we openned the microwave door, the sound stopped. Closed the door and the sound started again. Noticed none of the controls works and no display. The oven controls continued to work. Left the door open for a while but then closed it about 10 minutes later and the sound did not come back. However, the cotrolls still didn't work. About 1/2 hr later, I noticed the display cycled with all zeros and then the lights came on. The controls then worked but the microware wouldn't heat anything. Called GE and scheduled a service call.

When the first tech came out a few days later he indicated it was the high voltage regulator but also the magnatron may be damaged. He indicated the magnatron was under warranty but the other parts were not. He went ahead and ordered but part. However, when another tech came to install, he indicated the magnatron was not covered and wanted to charge me 200 more for that part. One of the reasons I'm posting this complaint is because of similar reports with this combo unit which caused fires and other damage. The burning smell and some of the other complaints are dead on with what we experienced.

Microwave oven keeps shorting circuit pretty much every other time I try and use it. It's ridiculous and I"m concerned it's going to do more damage to my electricity.

I've owned a GE Spacesaver Micro-hood combination microwave model JVM1631WB 004 since 2000. During that time up until now I have not had any problems with it's operation but have had several progressing problems with its overall build quality. within the first year I noticed a small crack in the door facing that eventually opened up completely allowing the glass to slide back and forth freely. As time has progressed I then noticed a second crack in the door handle. Recently a third crack in the door handle has appeared and is threatening to allow the whole handle to be pulled off the door. At this point I have to be extremely careful when opening and closing the door as not to tear the entire handle off the unit.

My Microwave shorted out while not in use, this most likely would have resulted in a catastrophic fire had I not been at home. I just purchased another GE profile Microwave for my vacation home and am very concerned about keeping it after this problem. Model # JVM1790WK01 Serial # SL900182K Purchase date Oct. 2006

Gregory of Fayetteville, NC October 8, 2009

I purchased a GE Microwaves; model number JVM1653BH01, serial number AH903501 in Sep of 2006. It was installed on Oct 1, 2006. Most of my kitchen appliances are GE products. The problem that I have with them is that my microwave stopped working within 5 seconds of starting into its cycle. To my surprise, when I goggled it, the answer to what was wrong was there and it had been reported in the past by other consumers. Bingo, the Magnetron, which GE was aware of this problem, call it the brain. But, instead of doing a recall to fix this problem, it appears to me that they decided to put a bandage on it and only own up to the consumers that inquired about this problem. I called and scheduled to have my microwave serviced. They inform me that it would cost around 79.00 to have their GE Service Tech to come out to my home check out the problem and if the part is under warranty they would cancel the 79.00 fee, only if I decided to aloud them to repair the unit. Sounds reasonable or so I thought. The tech replaced the defected Magnetron, which carries a 4 year warranty on the original part, with their new Magnetron Kit. Plugged the information into his little lap top computer and printed out a bill for 185.15 for Labor. Well, kiss my grits. Somebody has bumped their head. If its not illegal for them to charge that type of fee for labor, then it should be. I am very disappointed in what should be fair labor practices by GE for an American product. Now, you are wondering why some of our business are being send south of the border and overseas.
