GE profile dishwasher went on fire in middle of night -- had an extended warranty through 2013 on unit paid 957 for after I purchased units- purchased it from repairman when he cam to my home for a repair. After fire spent 3 weeks dealing with Assurant and getting run around regarding replacement - contacted on Saturday 9/26 and told I was getting 911. but not a replacement take it or leave it. I go out and purchase a new KitchenAid dishwasher and they called today Tuesday 9/30/09 to say oh by the way we made a mistake you are only getting 776. which is less than I paid to replace it with a new one. Spent another 2-3 hours on the phone requesting the other 4 years of my remaining contract be refunded to me or transferred to new unit and they refused. these people are crooks and the warranties arent worth the paper they are printed on. This unit is defective, a Fire hazard, and what will it take for a company like GE to do something like I dont know recall them ( like they did for the ones in 2001) - I'll tell you they need to be sued, because someone is going to die in a fire because of these problems. The unit I had was put out in the garbage today - I'll be buying foriegn products from now on.

Less than two years ago I bought all new GE appliances, ie: stove top, dishwasher, oven, refridgerator, etc. Within a few months my stove top went out, my ice maker went out shortly after that. With another six months, my dishwasher caught on fire and the fire marshal had to come over. Just today, the second cook top I got from GE caught on fire while I was cooking. It just started clicking and then sparked and then fire came out of the stove top! Very scary. I am glad my children were not home alone!! These products are defective and dangerous. GE doesn't care. I have learned to live with the problems until today when my stove top caught on fire! This is too dangerous for my family. It is not fair I spent 10,000 on appliances that are defective!! Please help

We bought all new appliances in July of 2009. It is now the end of September and we STILL do not have a working GE dishwasher. It does not clean the dishes. Many times the entire process only runs 5 minutes. Other times it just says H1 and will not run at all. We have had them out many times and it still is not fixed. My wife is now back in school and can not get home until mid afternoon. They will not work with your schedule. They tell us to call in and request a service call weekly. If no one is home, just call back the next week.

At times two people have showed up in the same day saying the other repairman was the incorrect person. It is a complete nightmare. We purchased it from Grants. They have finally offered to sell us a better model we if we pick up the additional charge. I was fine with that until they told me they were going to charge me another 125 to install the new one. All this and we have never had a working dishwasher.

I wish I had read some of these sites prior to purchases. I will NEVER buy another GE appliance and would advise others to do the same. Their Customer Care unit is a joke. And have plenty of time to hold as well. The Customer Care blames the service men and the service guys blame customer care. All I can say is buyer beware.

I purchased my service contract back in 2001. The appliance store I bought my appliances at, use to do the service calls with no problem, but unfortunately now GE has their own technicians and it has been a real nightmare. My dishwasher broke and when I called GE they sent a repair guy out between 8-5p.m. one week later. When the guy comes he has to order a part and says it will be another week and they will be back between 8-5p.m (there goes another day of work). Then after he leaves, the dishwasher is still not working and again they have to come back.

Another week goes by and again another day of work because they can't give you a specific time. They need another part so its another week and again another day of work and there is not a damn thing anyone can do to help you. It's been almost five weeks my dishwasher still doesn't work, meanwhile I keep telling the Osments repair guy is available and willing to come early so that I don't have to miss work and they say they can't do that. Why? They've always reapaired my appliances before with no delay. I am left still without understanding why I can't get my dishwasher fixed, it's been a real ordeal.

I have a GE Profile dishwasher that is approximately 4 years old. It has caused nothing but trouble. The Model number is PDW9900N00BB. It overheats and makes my counter tops too hot to touch. The circuit board has siezed up and won't allow me to change my washing options. I can't use the drying function because it gets too hot. The dishwasher will not turn off after washing dishes and has melted many of my dishes and also runs up unnecessary electric bills. I worry I will wake up with my house on fire!

Steve of Thornton, CO August 31, 2009

GE Profile dishwasher - model # PDW7380J15SS bought in 2007. When the dishwasher has completed all cycles, the heating element stays on and gets so hot that the granite counter above the unit is too hot to touch. Luckily we noticed before a fire started. Every time you close and latch the dishwasher door, the heating element comes on and obviously gets super hot. To the point now where we have unplugged the dishwasher for fear that our children will close the door and a fire will result.

Contacted GE and they disregarded safety concern and told me to make a service appointment. I am concerned that those that don't catch the issue in time will be in danger of house fire. This is a huge safety issue! What can we do to get GE to issue a recall to protect consumers?

The other night we started our GE PROFILE dishwasher and went to bed and woke up to a burning smell. We went down and found that the heating element had run all night and melted most of our plasic cups and all of the plastic wheels. We are very upset and do not use the heating option any more. Now our dishes come out still wet and hardly clean at all. VERY diappointed. Dishwasher does not perform as advertised and is a severe fire hazard.

GE Profile Dishwasher PWD9280N20SS heating element did not turn off which could have caused a fire. Granite counter top was too hot to touch. Have read similar complaints about various Profile modles w/ the same problem. Most of the internal parts, trays, utensile holders, etc. melted.

Thomas of Richmond, VA August 8, 2009

Last April, the heating element on our GE Profile PDW9700 dishwasher did not turn off. The excessive heat caused the plastic racks inside to melt, and start to burn as the melting plastic dripped on the element. This also ruined the dishes in the washer. The custom wood paneling on the outside also had to be replaced as the heat caused the screws to come out. This washer was about 17 months old and we use it 5-6 times per week. After this initial problem, we had another issue with the control board, and it had to be replaced again. I don't trust this appliance. We no longer run it if we know we will be out of the house after we turn it on. GE has proven difficult to work with. Initially they agreed to refund the labor, but refuse to acknowledge there is a basic flaw with their product that can burn down a house. I fully endorse any action taken as there seem to be a large number of similar complaints.
