Frigidaire, now owned by Electrolux, is one of the oldest brand names in home appliances but that doesn't necessarily mean it's one of the most reliable, as the complaints in this section attest.
Ranges Electrolux has provided us with the email address of an escalation specialist who promises to try to solve some of the more pressing complaints. Some unlucky souls have trouble with multiple Frigidaire appliances, like those below: Rosemary of Raleigh, NC August 26, 2009 Frigidaire microwave model # FMV156DCG, less than 2 years old, cost about 300 brand new. The handle cracked and broke off (and I don't even use it that often), so I called for a replacement part. They said it is 125! I can't believe that a dinky little plastic handle costs 1/3 of the price of the entire microwave. That is just ridiculous. I will never buy another Frigidaire appliance again! Alena of Waleska, GA August 11, 2009 I have a Frigidaire refrigerator and dish washer that I purchased 4 months ago. I have been experiencing problems with both appliances. Problem #1 Refrigerator: The ice maker, in the refrigerator is grinding up an spitting out slivers of white plastic into the ice, both cubes and crushed ice. The dangerous thing is that you can not see the plastic in the ice until the cubes, or crushed ice melts. Then you see lots of white plastic shavings floating in the melted ice(water). Problem #2 Dish washer: The door to the dish washer when lowered is hanging to low. It seems as if when the lower rack is loaded with dishes, and the weight is on the lowered door, you feel like the dish rack is going to roll out or the door is going to break off. I made a call to the customer service department on Monday, August 3 and was given a phone number for an authorized service center. I called the number given to me 5 times over the next two days. I never got an answer. I left messages but never got a return call. So on Wed., August 5 I called Frigidaire again, I explained to them that there was no answer with the company that they gave me. They gave me another company to contact. I contacted the second company, Milton Services, I was told by them that they do not service my area. So I once again contacted Frigidaire. I was told that they would have someone from there escalation specialist department give me a call back within 24 hours. On Thursday the 6th of August I received a call from Jennifer K, escalation specialist. I was told by her that she had me scheduled for a service call with A & E Service, the first available date which was Monday, August 10, sometime from 8am to 5pm. I took of work Monday, waiting for service. I received a call from A & E services at 12:07pm and I called them back within 10 minutes, I was told by them that because I didn't answer the phone that they wouldn't be able to come for service that day, they would have to reschedule me for later in the week. I had already taken off from work and ZI feel like it is unreasonable for them to say if I don't answer the phone they wouldn't be able to come. Even though I called them back within 10 minutes from the time they called me. It didn't matter. So I once again had to call Frigidaire back and explain the situation to them. I asked them isn't there any way they can have someone service it, after all I did have an appointment for then and I had taken off work. She said they couldn't come that day, but she would reschedule me for the next day which was today August 11. I once again took off from work to make sure I was here for the service technicians to work on the appliances. I got a call from A & E at 9am this morning wanting to schedule me for one day this week, I explained to them that I was suppose to have an appointment for today. They said they didn't have me scheduled, despite the fact that I had a confirmed appointment from the Frigidaire customer representative that I had spoken to on Monday, August 10th. Again, they didn't show up and I have taken two days off from work and still have gotten no where in regards to having my appliances repaired. As of my last conversation with Jennifer K w/Frigidaire a few hours ago, I was told to contact there service provider for service, and that is all they can do. She said to make sure I answer the phone and that they are not responsible if they can't reach me. I felt that was a very unfair statement for her to make considering I have taken off from work two days and still haven't gotten the service that I was promised. Eric of Watertown, NY August 8, 2009 We paid good money for a brand new Frigidaire stainless steel fridge, stove & microwave combo in December 2006. It was my wife and my Christmas gift to each other. The refrigerator has already gone up. We paid 59.00 plus tax for a service call to tell us that the compressor has gone up and that it will be between 500 to 600 parts and labor to fix it not to mention over 100 in food gone bad. I am very disappointed in the lack of quality in Frigidaire. Our refrigerators in the past have lasted well over 20 years. Some more then 30+. We have had this Frigidaire 2+ years and now we have to go out and spend a minimum of over 1350.00 to replace it with another stainless steel fridge (in another brand ) to match our other appliances. This is very costly and noone should have worry about this with a refrigerator this new. In or out of warranty no new refrigerator should have that short of a life span. We will definitely not be buying anything Frigidaire / Electrolux again. lucille of toms river, NJ June 4, 2009 The dishwasher purchased 3/18/09 has never worked well I have had six service calls for the same problem and no one seems to know what is wrong. I have tried many times talking to reps at frigidaire requesting a new dishwasher. Each service man is giving a different excuse. the soap dispenser does not open well and the soap cakes in there I tried using gel caps and they melt in the cup. The dishes are not rinseing well and are sometime still dirty. I have found the pottery is being chipped on some of my dishes. Larry of Midland, MI June 4, 2009 The delivery personnel of my frigidare refrigerator had to remove the doors to access my kitchen. After connecting the water supply for the ice dispenser and drinking fountain, there was a leak from the tubing in the refrigerator. I fixed the leak. The ice dispenser did not dispense ice and service man was called. He found fault in electrical connector. Both these defects were caused by removing door Timothy of charleston, SC June 3, 2009 This is an old problem,I bought a Frigidaire Frs26lf7ds7 from lowes,I do not have a problem with them, but after one year the storage drawers broke and the ice maker went crazy,I can handle the ice maker but the cheap plastic drawers I can't.Just went on line to order a new drawer can you belive it's 124.00 to replace, thats terrible when they use such cheap products.Oh well I'll spend my money to fix my fridge when it should have been a quality product to begin with!! John of Burlington, KY May 14, 2009 On January 10, 2009 we purchased a Frigidaire Freezer, Model LFFI14F5HWC -Serial WB84817319 and also purchased the additional 4 year protection plan from the Lowes store in Florence, KY. The freezer was delivered on January 12,2009. Around April 15th,2009 it started making a grinding noise and ran constantly. On Monday, April 27 we called for service and were told that they would get back to us 2 days later to set up an appointment. After calling back a few times, an appointment was set up for Thursday, April 30th. When the repair man from Central Service came, he said the freezer needed a new fan and that he had seen others of this model that had to have the fans replaced. The part was not in stock and would have to be ordered. The freezer was making so much noise and was running constantly, so we unplugged it and were fortunate enough to be able to transfer the contents elsewhere. Since the freezer was only 3 months old, we felt like waiting for the fan was an unnecessary inconvenience - so my husband went to the Florence store and was referred to an assistant manager - S. Bates. She more or less told us it was our tough luck - that these things happen. We felt like the freezer should have been replaced since we no longer feel secure about its performance. The Central Service Man did return on May 12th and replaced the fan so actually we were without the freezer for 11 days. The service representative that was contacted for service assured us that any loss of contents would be reimbursed, but that's not always possible since a lot of the food was frozen from the garden and is irreplaceable. In all our years of dealing with appliance services, we have never been told that we would have to wait 2 days to make an appointment. We shared our experience with one of our friends, and they had a similar experience with a refrigerator they had purchased from Sears. When they called for service, Sears brought them a new refrigerator and exchanged it the very next day - so I guess I know where we'll be going the next time we need a new appliance and will also advise our friends & family to do the same. Shelia of Lumberton, TX May 14, 2009 We had our home built by Beard Builders in 2004. We picked Frigidaire appliances for our new home, which was completed Nov. 2004. I have had a problem with both the MICROWAVE AND DISHWASHER. The microwave had a little paper "card" covering a hole on the side of the MICROWAVE that kept sparking and burning. I finally slipped it out of the two little inserts to prevent a fire. As for the DISHWASHER, during this last year I noticed we had trouble getting the dishwasher to accept our wash selection. We had to go to the breaker box and turn it off for a few seconds. This would reset the computer and would then accept our wash selection. Last night I turned on the dishwasher and went to bed. At 4:30 this morning I awoke to the strong smell of plastic burning. I checked the dishwasher and found everything plastic, even the cups on the top shelf, had melted! It was still on and VERY hot. The heating element had not turned off. I had to turn it off by the breaker. It melted the end off of the plastic "rotating, water distribution" part. I was wondering if there was a recall on these appliances that I haven't heard about? Tuesday of Starkville, MS May 6, 2009 I bought my fridge in the spring of 2005 and over the last year the front door panel around the ice/water dispenser has rusted just below the tray, paint is bubbled out and the screws to take the control panel cover off are rusted so that you can't get them out!!! I have read all the complaints and have to say I wonder now if calling the company is just even needed. SAD!!! Paid 1000.00 for the darn thing and to have this problem is ridiculous! Most companies have a lifetime rust warranty on their appliances and given my washer and dryer are NOT the same brand, MAYTAG, they have a Lifetime warranty on all their appliances for a rust issue. Says to me that they stand behind their product. Just a note, in the recent weeks I have been advised to write a formal letter of complaint, send it to both Fridgidaire and the State Attorney General's office for the state it was manufactured in and your home state for any type of result. Don't know how far that will get me but I will try it. Seems like calling isn't gonna work. I will NEVER purchase another product from this company again. Traci of Lima, OH May 6, 2009 The stove burner would not turn off, even though the knob was turned to the off position. I had to turn off the breaker to cut power to the stove. I do not understand how this product could have received a UL listing or is not subject to recall. The potential for a house fire existed. I had to call a service repairman to take care of the problem. This is the second major component that has failed on this stove, and it is only five years old. Report Your Experience
