Farberware Cookware

Carolyn of Holly Lake Ranch TX (7/25/04):
Have a 12" Farberware frying pan with a lifetime guarantee. I still have receipt and guarantee. Food sticks to the coated bottom. Reading your other complaints, I guess I'm not alone. The frying pan cost over $90, so I thought it would be great--and it was, for five years or so.

Mitchell of Cedar Falls IA (11/19/03):
We were boiling water in the pot, and the aluminum melted off the bottom of the pot. The melted aluminum dripped down into the stove, and when I picked up the pan the aluminum driped on to the vinyl flooring in the kitchen causing deep burns.

Debe of Broken Arrow OK (3/7/03):
I scrimped and saved and finally in 1998 was able to purchase an entire set (3 skillets and 5 pots) of the Farberware Millennium Stainless Steel Nonstick pots and pans. After only about two year's use, the nonstick surface on one pot began to flake off. Since I had a lifetime warranty, I wasn't overly concerned, trusting that a company such as Farberware would honor their warranty. I contacted Farberware and they said to send it in. I prepaid the postage and sent it in. They mailed it back to me saying they were unable to honor the warranty because it had been "misused". However, they would offer me a whopping 50% discount if I wanted to buy another one!

Well, now all my pots and pans are flaking. I just emailed them this week and got the same reply. They will not honor the warranty because they "feel the problem is not a manufacturing defect but due to other reasons. It may have been high heat, or the use of metal utensils or cooking sprays which would void the warranty".

I spent a lot of money on these pots and pans. I am not rich. I am an amateur gourmet cook however, and wanted the best cookware. This cookware was wonderful when I first got it. In fact, I even hung them up on hooks in order not to scratch them! I never used high heat or incorrect utensils or cleaning supplies on these pans. But now they are all flaking, I can't afford to buy more, and it's a health hazard to use these.

I was making a vanilla custard in one pot the other day and I could see the little black flakes in it! I had to throw the custard away. This is absolutely inexcusable and deplorable on Farberware's part. Farberware is a name consumers trust. It has been around for years. What are we as consumers to do?
