Home Depot to Close Expo Chain

Gaytha of West Palm Beach FL (11/25/02):
I worked at the Boynton Beach Expo Design Center for four years. I was there when they opened the doors on the first day. I have been reading the complaints of the customers of Expo and I can tell you every word they are telling you is the truth. I worked in the call center and received every call from every upset customer there for four years.

When they tell you all they got was voice mail when they called, that's exactly what they got. The assistant managers and department heads would turn their phones off which meant that all their calls would go into voice mail. Many of the sales associates on the floor would just ignore the phones ringing no matter how many times they rang. Of course the customers would call back angry and some of them would be crying because of the poor service they were getting.

I feel bad for anyone who did business with Expo and had a bad experience. They just didn't want to be bothered by a past customer. They were more interested in the customers that were in the store at the presesnt time. They would tell me that. I had to finally leave my job because I just couldn't stand the way they were doing business.

Reggie of Fort Worth TX (12/19/03):
I worked with an installer who was contracted through Expo. When I was hired by this installer I was also working as a bartender in the evenings. The company I had gone to work for was extremely busy at the time and offered to put me on salary, which was worth my quitting my bartending job. In September the jobs that Expo were sending to the company slowed down and several crews of workers were let go. Since I ran the office and was in charge of phones, payroll, bookkeeping and appt setting I was kept on.

In October things came to almost a screeching halt. When the owner of the company I was working for met with Expo, he was told that they had quit selecting his company for jobs, with no warning and no reason. Of course he met with Management, and jobs started to trickle in. The licensed plumber that was on staff with the company I worked for, was the only licensed plumber that Expo had. His wife had recently had a baby with health problems and he had no choice, but to seek other employment, because there were not enough jobs to give him the hours needed to support his family.

This left myself and the owner of the company. I not only did the office work at this point, but also was going out on jobs with the owner and helping with installation of ceiling fans, chandeliers, and actually doing plumbing. On Dec 6th the owner of the company phoned me at home to tell me that he had no choice, that he needed to close the business.

As of today I am still unemployed, my electricity and phone have been disconnected and I have no income! I am unable to collect unemployment as I was hired as contract labor. I have applied for many jobs on line, because lack of funds will not allow me to put gas in my vehicle. I have had no money for food or anything else. I never in my life have been in this situation and have no family to help me out. I am single and have now received an eviction notice from my landlord. I have lived in this house for 9 years now. I do not have anywhere to go and because I have no minor children no one will help me, if I hear someone say Merry Christmas one more time I'm going to lose it!!
