Sandra of Fernley, NV September 18, 2009 This is a follow-up to my previous post about out 6889 Dacor refrigerator. I retrieved the box that was sent with the add-on part that we needed to cure the problem aka defect. This is what the instructions said: IMPORTANT Evaporator Drain Tray Freeze Up Issue in 2003 thru 2007 production - creates internal water leak from ceiling of freezer causing water and ice to accumulate on the ceiling, door and seals of freezer. Can also cause a no cool situation, a noise issue when ice forms blocking evaporator motor and blade, or damper diffuser failure. Clearly, without a doubt it is a DEFECT by their own words. People should be warned about the way Dacor does business. I am a Realtor and have lost business because I have been dealing with this. David of Fernley, NV September 18, 2009 Nov. 2006 we purchased Dacor Epicure 48" refrigerator (6899) among other Dacor appliances. The refrig lasted 3 weeks as a defect with the doors and they would not close and seal. Appliance store gave us a new one. 2 years 8 months later it developed a loud grinding noise in augur motor in ice maker that ran 24/7. The freezer developed excessive ice and icicles. The augur would freeze up, shut off, freezer would go from 0 degrees to 32 degrees and everything melt, then kick on, freeze up and repeat cycle all over. Found "authorized" repairman, Ron in Reno, NV. Ron said problem with these refrigerators, they need an add-on part, an evaporative pan assembly. Ron also said "there should have been a recall on these." Also informed we would have to pay 628. Gave Ron 300 deposit, wait 3 weeks told part on back-order (hmmm must be a demand for the part?) Called Dacor, spoke to J. Carlos he said only 2yr warranty on defects, we have to pay, he will be nice enough to sell us the part for discount. Fine, just send us the part. Part arrives, call Ron at Protek to install, he can't come for 4 days. Tues. 9/15 Ron's service tech arrives, here 2.5 hours another 134. Five hourse later no ice out of the icemaker that worked prior to anyone coming out. Call Ron, he tries to say he bent over backwards for us, when I remind him of all the things he didn't do, like communicate and keep his word, he apologizes. Then he says he won't come back for a week and we have to pay for the icemaker. All of a sudden he only comes to Fernley on Tuesdays. After 5 mins Ron says I should call someone else, I gladly agree, except Ron says "there is no one else besides him and he refuses to come back". I email and call J. Carlos at Dacor. I read him the warranty in the back of refrig booklet. Doesn't say anything about 2 years on defects. It does say "5 years on sealed parts such as evaporator etc." I argue that the part we needed is NOT a part of our refrigerator it is an add-on part to cure a defect. J. Carlos refuses to do anything and tells me that Ron will not come back and service me and there is nothing I can do. Ron had told me "you went to the big boss to throw me under the bus", so this appears to be Ron's motivation for not coming back. Ron has refused to give me an invoice for what we paid him. The service tech said I would receive one the next day. I waited, emailed Ron on Thurs 9/17, no invoice. Dacor says I am out of warranty and they won't do anything. I have called Osborne-Dermody where we purcased 50K in appliances for help. Kevin at Dermody cannot believe Dacro's attitude and he clearly agrees with me this is a defect. NO part on our refrigerator failed, we needed a part manufactured especially for this problem to cure the problem, HELLO! defect. Do not recommend Dacor appliances, poor quality, no service, no warranty and unprofessional customer service. Thank goodness I took photos of the icicles and sheets of ice in my freezer. Cobie of moses lake, WA September 10, 2009 I built a house in 2003 / 2004 and had a 2,200 dacor wall oven installed. During Thanksgiving last year the light in the oven started flickering on/ off after we pulled the turkey out and shut the oven off. After that anytime we used the oven we'd have to shut the breaker off in the garage when we were done because the flickering/ clicking noise wouldn't stop until the oven had cooled. Also not to be forgotten is our 550 dacor cooktop. One day I walked by and the burner was glowing red - about an hour after I had used it. I checked the switch and it was off. I played around with the dial and got the burner shut off. A few times I came home to a glowing burner! So this too had to be shut on/off in the garage. I emailed dacor and explained what was happening with both their products. There was barely a response telling me they were sorry but there was nothing they could do- the warranty had expired (I bought the cooktop and oven at the end of 2003)- and no this had never happened to anyone else. After several emails complaining that I didn't want my house to burn down and to please fix the problem, they sent a repairman out but he never came back. My husband fixed the oven problem by unhooking the light so I don't have to turn it on/off in the garage. I love having dinner parties where I use a flashlight to check on the meal. With the cooktop- we finally got the burner to stop turning on by itself. We just don't use it - of course it's the nice large one. Every once in awhile someone else cooks and the burner accidently gets used then we have go back to turning it on/off in the garage until we can get the burner to stay off. It ticks me off that I paid premium to upgrade to this level of [bad product]. Terry of Arvada, CO September 8, 2009 We did a major remodel in 2003, finishing in 2004, created a dream kitchen with high end appliances. We have had continual problems with both Dacor appliances, but have no recourse, since they are more than out of warranty. Why buy high end appliances. If it's for the "wow" factor, reconsider and stay with the Kenmore, Whirpool, and GE. You can throw them away and not feel guilty. sharon of North Vancouver, BC August 28, 2009 While my stove is now 10 years old the front plastic cracked at 5 years and now the oven door glass has cracked. Dacor has totally ignored my e-mails and reading this site I realize I am unfortunately not alone in my complaints. I would never recommend this appliance to anyone. This was my "dream" stove and I have treated it very carefully. At least the burners still work! B. of District of Columbia, DC June 3, 2009 Just purchased a 48" Dual Fuel. Once delivered, our electrician pointed out that the machine is missing an electric terminal (the entire terminal!). Called Dacor, and spoke to a "Javier." This kid was more of an obnoxious 15 year old than an adult representing such a large company (the perfect mix of sarcasim, arrogance, and ignorance that can only come with youth and general inexperience). In a nutshell, I tried twice to by-pass him and to speak with an adult (manager). He rebuffed my request twice!!! My next call is to the BBB, and to send out a friendly notice to all consumers out there - don't waste your time with Dacor Service. Nearly 6 weeks after delivery, my range still isn't operational, so I can't comment on how it functions. However, we're off to a REALLY bad start, and if the thing didn't weight 500 lbs, I would drag it right back to the dealership and return the range. Bob of Slidell, LA May 20, 2009 I called DACOR on 2/28/09 to have my 36" DACOR range repaired. It took a couple of days to get them to acknowledge that I even had the range and had purchased the extended warranty. They finally dispatched a repairman although I had to make the call to get him to come out. He diagnosed the problem and said he had to order the part and would install it in about a week. A month later I called to find out why he hadn't called. He told me that he had a disagreement with DACOR 3 weeks ago and told them to get another repairman. I called DACOR to ask why no one had called me or dispatched another repairman. Their only response was they would send another repairman. I took me over 2 months to finally get my range fixed. The fact of the matter is that DACOR obviously doesn't care about their customers, won't return e-mails, won't respond to voice mails, or even personal letters to their Product Assurance department. I've notified my distributor about the problem and plan to continue to notify every distributor I can until DACOR decides to contact me. For those who live in the Slidell, LA area that own DACOR products I highly recommend Cherokee's Appliance in Carriere, MS 601-799-2012. Marsella of Pelahatchie, MS May 4, 2009 We puchased a 24" Dishwasher from Dacour for our new home. Six months into the purchase the Dishwasher was not working properly. The mother board was replaced...under warranty. One year later, the mother board is now needing to be replaced again. We have been in our house 18 months, and I was told that it would cost around 500 to repair/replace the mother board. My plan is to take my money and go by a different dishwasher, and never use Dacour products again. Maria of Rogers, MN April 24, 2009 We purchased a Dacor built-in coffee maker (CM24P) that was installed in October 2006. It work correctly from the beginning but only for 6 months, after that is when all the trouble started. The machine stop working so I called Dacor customer service and they told me that it was under warranty and that I need it to get an appointment with the service people in my area, I did that they came and took the machine for 4 weeks to get it fixed! I called many times to them and they told me that they didn't have a part and that they were working on getting a new one, so finally got the machine back and they told me that the entire inside was replaced and that the problem was that the system needed to be descaled by them once every three months or this would happen again! They told me that the repair would have been 1500.00 that I was lucky that it was under warranty. We barely used it! So every three months I am supposed to pay a service person to remove my machine, be without it for 2 weeks for them to de-scale it and return it to me? This was a 2,500 machine. After 6 months or so I came home to water liking all over my kitchen, my cabinet in the kitchen full of water! so I called Decor again after waiting a while for a call back they told me that my machine was out of warranty and that I should have bought their extended warranty but now that it was expired and need it pay for all the repairs, well I told them what was happening and Dacor said that they have a kit to add to the machine that would take care of it, I got the kit for free from them and learn that it cannot be installed by myself but will require a plumber! so I did that now after installing the part everything seem ok for the entire day but when I woke up the next morning I had my entire kitchen floor full of water my cabinet full of water, the cabinet under the machine full of water and water dripping from the ceiling on the basement! the cabinet has water stains everywhere from the steam of the machine and the microwave that is above the coffee machine is not working, I am assuming is from the heat and steam of the machine. Unbelievable! I have called e-mailed letters and complaints asking that they replace my machine or at the minimum pay for the part and its installation but I have gotten no response. When I asked why they never respond, they said they did not get my fax or e-mail. It weren't for the gaping hole in my wall, (and the large price tag) I would throw this in the trash!
