My daughter applied for an apartment because this was advertised as a Second Chance Apartment Complex (meaning that if you have had some problems with your credit score and/or leasing history they will lease to you) after completing her application and paying her application fees, my daughter waited approximately two weeks for a serious yes or no as to whether they who lease to her or not. She was finally told on December 17, 2010 that she needed a co-signer. My daughter called the complex with me on the phone line and asked Monica what was required of me to be a co-signer, Monica stated that all was required was that I complete and application and bring my driver's license.

On December 18, 2010 I met my daughter at the apartment complex, we asked to speak to Monica and were told that she was not in the office, we explained why we were there and I was given an application to complete. Alex took my application and driver's license and I authorized $25 to be taken from my debit card. I asked Alex what happens next and he stated that they just needed to verify my income. I stated that should not be a problem, which I made enough money and had been on my job for 29 years. Alex stated that he would try to run the report today but if not first thing Monday. My daughter calls Monday and left several messages for Monica to call her. Monica finally called her to let her know the report had not been run on me but she would do it ASAP. My daughter called Monica who told my daughter that I was denied and so was she.

December 21, 2010, I called Monica to get the details of why I was denied but was told she was busy, I asked to speak with the Manager and was told she was not available. I left a message for the Manager (Jamie) to call me but did not receive a phone call. December 22, 2010 I called back to the complex because Jamie did not return my call from the previous day. I was told that Jamie was out of the office for the day, I then asked to speak to Monica. Monica told me that my application was denied because I did not have a perfect paper.

I asked what they mean a perfect paper. She said my credit was not perfect. I told Monica I know that my credit is not perfect but I was not told that a perfect credit score was needed to be a co-signer. Monica then said we offer second chance leasing but we require the co-signer to have a perfect score. I told her that neither she nor Alex stated what the qualification is to me. Previously, I had spoken to Monica and Alex who are leasing agents at this apartment complex and was not told or explained that a perfect credit score was needed to be a co-signer. I was told by Alex that the apartment complex was looking for income verification as the qualification I needed to co-sign for the apartment for my daughter. I was not explained or told of this qualification until after I paid $25 for an application fee and denied an apartment.

I paid $25 for an application processing based on the information provided to me by Monica and Alex and that was (1)complete the application, (2)show drivers license and (3)verification of my income. I was not told at any time by the leasing agents at Carrollton Park Apartment complex that the qualification for being a co-signer was a perfect score. This is an apartment complex that advertises itself as a second chance leasing complex. I spent time and money driving to the complex and completing an application plus $25 in processing fees. I have spent two days trying to find out why I was denied and what agency provided them the information for which I was denied.

I would like be compensated for my time and money I spent. If I had been told that the qualification was a Perfect Score. I would not have applied because I know that my credit status is not perfect. I feel that my daughter was denied her second chance leasing opportunity in order for to get a co-signer (which generates additional revenue for the apartment complex) but only to be denied altogether). I feel there is a scam being ran by the complex. How many tenants have been asked to find co-signers in this second chance leasing complex to generate additional dollars?
