Bunn-O-Matic

Ray of Beckley WV (03/14/09)
My Bunn 10 Cup coffee maker caught on fire at my office earlier today--there is considerable smoke damage and we've lost a microwave oven and blender as well as a kitchen counter--I wondered if there had been any recalls on the product--the insurance company wants to look at the machine.

Not sure about the total damage but will know more next week when adjusters, clean up people, and electricians come to office

The Bunn coffee maker that i recently purchased does not perform as it should. It takes up to 5 minutes to make a pot of coffee and frequently it does not make the amount of coffee that it should have.

I have used the home model of Bunn coffee machines for years.I like them because they are fast. Problems of leaking after a couple years is common. As a DIY person, I have taken them apart and fixed them several times. I have had them completely apart before and the leaking that I have seen is not really a safety issue as much as just a nuisance. Bunn has every safety device probably available to protect users against shock or fire. I have fixed several of them in a temp way but there is a permanent fix that the factory could do.It would be simple and not very expensive to give years of life to one of these machines without leaks.

The companies wont send fixes to the public as it would be a liability issue to them. The fixes I see could easily be designed into the new pots to prevent them from leaking without raising the cost of the coffee makers. Great machines are worth simple design changes to make them greater better. I am not sure I will buy another at the price they are now and knowing it will be leaking soon.

The pot leaks only cause a nuisance and stains no real dollar cost to me.
