Black and Decker Electric Lawn Mower

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I purchased a Black and Decker dual line edger/trimmer, model number GH 710, on 09-26-11 from Lowe's. Today, I started edging my small -acre lawn. The cutting line consumption is excessive. The cutting line was completely used before the edging was completed. I am an unhappy customer!

The cutting line feed mechanism is a design failure on the GH 710 Edger/Trimmer. I have used their GH600 Edger/Trimmer for many years and was completely satisfied with the product. I will not buy any edger/trimmer with the dual line feeder mechanism. Black and Decker should eliminate the GH710 dual line feeder mechanism from their product line.

Two days after we bought Black and Decker cordless mower model CMM1200, the key melted while running and the unit started to smoke. We called 1.800.544.6986 and they told us to return mower to Canadian Tire and they would take care of things. So we returned the unit to Canadian Tire and they informed us that they would either repair or replace the mower after they looked at it. We waited and waited. We called three times and were told that they were still looking into it. After a month we had had enough. We went to Canadian Tire and asked about the mower and there was a new one sitting there with our name on it. The clerk informed us that it had been sitting there for almost a month. I did not know why no one called us. One year later it's spring again. Used the mower three times and guess what: they key melts in the unit again. We called Black and Decker. They informed us there was no recall but they did offer to send us another key.

Follow-up to my complaint about my wife's hair being sucked into GH 1000
motor housing--resulting in violent
jerking of her head, loss of hair and
trimmer motor made inoperable.

--consequence--new trimmer ruined, hair pulled out, the shock of the action and a form letter from the legal dept. which thanked me for letting them know they could add this to their file, but nothing from B&D that would help me or would in any way be a fair or proper response to my complaint about the B&D product malfunction (one about which there had been no warning). Please let me know soon about the action I can expect B&D to take. At this time I only expect fairness.

Six weeks ago, my "just over a year-old" cordless electric mower, CMM11200, stopped recharging. After three calls to Customer Service and ten days later, I received a new battery charger. After two - three days of recharging, the mower is still dead. There's no charge. The nearest authorized or any service that I know of is 120 miles distant, which is in San Antonio, TX.

My battery on my Black & Decker cordless mower (model #CMM1000) needs to be replaced every 3-4 years. I did not know that. It was not even hinted on the promotional material or owners manual.

The economics of it are: I have to buy a new battery every 3-4 years. I have seen some estimates of over $100 per battery. That's a new mower every 6-8 yrs. It is hard to push, cuts unevenly and now the battery is crap. I'm very dissapointed now, very dissapointed.

No one would ever buy this machine if they knew what I know now!
