Adair of Jacksonville FL (5/3/04): I had a 14 x 20 sunroom installed by this company in the summer of 2002. The room started leaking every time it rained hard. They sent someone out to supposedly fix this problem five times last year (2003) but, just recently, we had our first hard rain of the year and the room still leaks in the very same spot.
On April 22, 2004 I called to speak to William the manager and was hung up on. I'm out of $18,000.00 and stuck with a shoddy built room.
"O" of Mobile, AL, writes: Contracted to install porch with cover 10 X 16 with windows screens and aluminium post with insulation. Gutters. Repair all existing floors, hallway and kitchens, ok all plumbing. Pressure-treated lumber. Remove front porch and install stairs with canopy. All work guaranteed. Private investor paid off first mortgage and refinanced to include first mortgage and $7470 for home improvements. New mortage at 18% with 5 year balloon payment of $15,000.
Approximately $2500 of work was done on home. Job left incomplete. Owner claim worker will be there tomorrow but no one has shown up in a month.
Was paying $266.66 plus $67 taxes and insurance. New payment is $369.38 plus taxes and insurance. Paying nothing but interest. Working extra to make payments. Elderly mother lives in home that improvements were sought for, was very upset about shoddy work being done. I live 40 miles away and was not there to see.
Have video tape and pictures of shoddy work. Owner of company sent man in to patch floor and redo patchwork of paneling done on walls of installed porch and repatch floors.
"O" doesn't say whether the contractor already has all the proceeds of the refinancing. If the contractor had a hand in arranging the financing of this project, we wouldn't be surprised if he made sure he got his upfront. "O" needs to have a knowledgeable consumer attorney examine his financing documents and his contract ... quickly.
