Basement Systems

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I had a basement waterproofing system installed ( drain tile system, bright wall and sump pump). When the estimate for the work was provided, the salesman assured me that their system was guaranteed to keep my basement dry. I informed him that I had received an estimate from another local competitor who told me that I need a new basement floor because the one I had was layed too thin. He again assured me that this was not necessary with the type of system that they would be installing.

The system was installed in May of 2008. My basement is still in the same condition it was before the installation. The Bright Walls look nice, but my floor is still damp. When I requested a service call because of the moisture, the service men informed me that my basement floor was layed too thin, and that the drain tile system dosent fix that problem.

Needless to say, for all of the money I payed to basement systems, I still have to pay to have a new basement floor installed.

This company employees spent two days in my home waterproofing my basement. After completing the job, several issues were addressed with the company. These issues include destruction of three large heaters (removed from walls, but stored in basement), damage to an outside door which was not securable any longer, and damage by cutting and removing all walls along the perimeter of the basement (this was not disclosed as a possible necessity when the contract was purchased).

The system was not able to be determined successful until the ground water melted. When this occurred we found that one pump installed in the basement was working, however a second pump installed was not functioning at all. Also, at this time, the basement filled with water and we were again sweeping and manually pumping water out of our basement. This caused damage to the repairs we had made to several of the walls.

In addition, I was extremely upset with the condition of the basement when the work was completed. I was prepared for the extensive dust which was present, however there was also debris (including 2X4s with large rusting nails sticking out of them) present throughout the basement. This posed a serious threat to my young son and pets. Several days were spent cleaning the mess as well as dumping fees to remove the debris.

The quotes we have obtained for the cost of repairs to the destroyed walls far exceeds the costs of the basement waterproofing, not to mention the other issues. For these reasons, I witheld final payment for the services performed. Basement systems however refused to honor their warranty and repair the non functioning pump until payment was received.

Since we still have pooling of water in our basement as well as along a crack through the basement (supposedly addressed by Basement Systems), as well as the extensive repairs necessary to return the basement to the pre waterproofing condition, I feel the services performed were substandard and of no value.

$12,000 - $15,000 to repair damaged walls. $1000. paid to replace heaters, repair outside door, and removal of debris left in basement. However the stress and strain this has caused far exceeds any monetary loss.
