Charles of Richmond, TX March 20, 2010 This is a follow up to my previous postings on Feb. 6th and 20th: Philips only responded after I contacted the BBB. A consumer rep asked me how Philips could make me happy and resolve my problem (no power, blinking red light). I told them I wanted compensation for the years I will not get out of my 47in LCD HD TV or send me a new TV with warranty. They responded with the following. 1. Repair my TV at no cost but I pay for shipping both ways. 2. Pay $300 for a refurbished TV (updated model) and send back my mine and they pay for shipping. Both TV's would have only 90 warranty. The cheapest shipping cost from my house to Georgia would be almost $200 one way. I called Philips customer service back and told them that if I was to spend another $300-$400, I would put that towards a new TV of another brand. I have already brought my Philips TV to a repair shop and he told me cost of repair would be $500-$1000 and it would probably break down again. He has seen many Philips malfunctioning TV's. I am now stuck with a 47in LCD TV that won't power up that cost over $1700 and only got 2 and a half years service. I will wait for class action to take place and join it. Loss the use of 47in. LCD HD TV at the cost of over $1700. Only lasted 2 and a half years. Jennifer of Chester, NH March 19, 2010 Bought a 42in plasma tv in July 2006 and about a year ago the tv would shut off and then not turn back on without uplugging and replugging in continously. Now the tv will not turn on at all. I've read that many people have had the same problem with thousands of philips tv's. Megan of Rochester, MN March 19, 2010 I got a TV that is Philips brand. It was a gift from my mother. I got it home and go to plug it in and try it out...It clicks two or three times, green light comes on then goes off and a red light blinks 7 times now. It pauses and then continues. I have been looking up troubleshooting for this and came across this website. Turns out I am not the only person having problems with this. This tv is only 2 years old. I can't do anything because the warranty is expired. I am going to call a repair man and see how much it will cost to fix it and if it is even worth the trouble. Personally I would rather not have a product with the name Philips on it anywhere in my house. This is just poor service all around. I have had my Toshiba LCD HDTV for 5 years and not once have had a problem with it (knocking on wood). I just think this poor service and even worse is Philips could care less. I am sure they just want you to go out and by another tv. SAD SAD SAD I have a 42 inch television that is going to need to end up somewhere other than the floor of my living room. Either that is in a landfill or a recycling center. I am not even sure where I can dump this thing. Jennifer of Coventry, CT March 17, 2010 I purchased a 42" Plasma TV Model#42PFP5332D/37 a little over a 1 1/2 ago. The TV started making a clicking sound and there was no picture; however, the power light came on. Very similiar to all the other complaints and of course I got no where with customer service. I called Sear's to repair the TV, the first thing the repairman asked my husband is did we buy it from a big box store (BJ's, Costco) and we had. He said that Phillips sells their TV's to these big box stores at lower prices because the TV's are going to be discontinued or are already discontinued and there would most likely be no parts to order. He said that from our description that it is the "Power Board" or "Mother Board" and that it starts clicking because it is experiencing some problem and is shutting itself down to prevent more damage. Of course, the cost would be around $600.00 to fix (labor and parts). I have written a letter to the Phillips Electronics North America Corp. to see if they can resolve anything. I have attached several pages from the comsumers affairs website to show them that this is an ongoing problem with a lot of people. I will also be notifying BBB as well. You can rest assured that I will never buy anything from BJ's or a Phillips product again. I will write back if I get any response - most likely not. The TV cost over $1000.00 and to repair it it would cost another $600.00 for only using it for a 1 1/2. paul of st.helens, United Kingdom March 17, 2010 I am posting in reply to the philips plasma tv complaints and was wondering if anyone in the uk are having these problems. I purchased a 42" philips ftattv in may 06 from currys. over the past few months it has been reluctant to come on with a flashing green light. i called philips today and he said it isnt a coman fault and they can not help. i explained ive doen some research and he said sorry this is a new problem but by looking here it isnt and is a well know fact the philips tvs are faulty. is there anyone in the uk having the same problem as everyone here in this thread as i would like to build a case up here in the uk to present to philips as it cost me over £1800 and im not buying a new one when i know it is a manufacturing fault. thanks Ronald of Norman, IN March 17, 2010 Bought a Philips LCD TV model 19PFL3403D/F7B for my daughter Christmas 2009. Now its the middle of March 2010 and it wont power up. Judging from all the current complaints I dont think calling the company is going to get me anywhere. I didnt realize that we were buying a disposable TV. That will be the last Philips product that I buy. Gilma of Vauxhall, NJ March 16, 2010 Purchased a 50" Plasma Model 42pft3214/37 about 3 yrs ago. It is not working properly. When I turn the TV on a red light will flash. I have to turn the TV off and on several time in order to work. I called the company but they said they couldnt help me as the TV is not under warranty anymore. It will cost approximately $300-$500 to fix it. Danielle of San Francisco, CA March 15, 2010 I experienced the same problem that many others have which is when I went to power on my TV, it did not turn on, instead, it would just flash a red light. I disconnected the entire until and it's still in the same mode which is the red flashing light. I have an appointment with an electronics specialist to come out and give me an estimate of what it is going to cost me to repair. Not looking forward to it. I spoke with Phillips and they said they cannot do anything about it as it is no longer covered under the one year warranty and that I should find someone to come out and repair it. Unacceptable in my opinion for a TV that is less than 5 years old. Heather of Shreve, OH March 15, 2010 Bought a Phillips Plasma tv around 3 years ago. Model #42PF9631D/37. Went to turn TV on today. Powers on with green light and then turns to red blinking light, blinking seven times. Also have experienced in the past that sometimes when you turn it on the screen is black and gray. Have to turn it off and back on again to get colored screen. Now looks like the TV is dead. Spent $2300 on this TV and now have nothing. I see that there is thousand of others out there that have experienced the same situation. And what about this that makes the situation even more frustrating is that you can't even talk to someone about it. There is no way in heck I am paying the kind of money that is being reported to repair this TV. We get comments all the time that our TV is so awesome and the picture is great. Well I will be telling all those people now what a piece of junk it is and how Phillips basically stole our money. I am so angry about this situation. $2300 is a lot of money and with finances the way they are now I don't know that we are going to be able to replace it. I did report to BBB and will be writing numerous letters to the company. If there is a class action lawsuit against this company then you better put me on the list. I am not letting this go. Phillips makes way to much money and they need to own up to their mistakes. They need to fix the problem before their reputation is ruined and they have to go under! I have an unworking TV without the finances to replace it. Lisa of Conyers, GA March 13, 2010 Oh no....I too am in the "red zone" with my Philips model 42PF9631D/37, approx 3 yrs old. I've unplugged it for the quoted 60 seconds, and now it's been unplugged for about an hour. Nothing - I get the green light and think, YEAH, it's going to work, but then the dreaded red light starts blinking at me. I have also called the 800 number for Philips, and got the same response many have, "No one is here to help, goodbye". I just thought maybe it was a time zone thing so I was ready to call again. I guess that won't help either. We did have some issues with the TV after a few months of owning it, got an upgrade, and it seemed to work fine. Just recently though, when we turn it on, the picture is very black and grainy, we turn it off and back on, then it's fine. We initially thought it may have been the cable service, but we don't get that on any other TV in the house. We bought an LG TV for our bedroom and absolutely love it (so far), so that may have to be the next purchase for the den if we can't get Philips to resolve this issue - which I'm not holding out any hope they will after reading all the other horror stories here. Shame shame shame that a company this big can act this way. Mike of beverly hills, MI March 13, 2010 Purchased a philips 50" plasma in 2006. worked great for the first two years and then one day I couldn't turn it on... would click like it was going to power up, green light on, about five seconds later it makes the click and turns off. Same blinking red lights everyone else is complaining about. called a repairman to fix it and they wanted $850 ($650 for the part and $200 to install/calibrate it). I paid $3500 for this tv and thought I was getting a great deal because it was the prior year's model so it was about $800 cheaper than the ones that were on display at the time. I was without a tv for about a year before I finally broke down and bought a new panasonic 50" plasma for only about $100 more than it will cost to repair my philips! If you go to the philips website they give no suggestions on what to do in thier list of common problems...they are pretending this is not a problem but it's quite obvious it is after visiting this site. This monster sits in my basement and laughs at me everytime I am in sight of it. And all philips will do is give me a phone number of someone else who doesn't care. Emil of Springfield, VA March 13, 2010 In the past month, I've read 100+ complaints from consumers who purchased a Philips Plasma/LCD TV in the past 2-5 years. I started researching this issue when my 2006 Philips Plasma TV, 42PF7320A/37, S# YA1A0542035194 went out and started blinking a red light, 7x. I am amazed to see how many consumers experienced similar problem and more importantly, how poorly Philips has handled the complaints. I spent $2000 for this TV and from what I've read, I would have to spend anywhere between $600-$1500 for a repair, that may only solve the problem temporarily, since this is apparently an overheat problem due to inferior parts. I found on this website that there is a class action lawsuit filed against Philips...the least I can do is opt in and who knows, maybe, just maybe, Philips would do the right thing for all of us customers who have Philips paper weight taking up room in our storage. I'm not sure I am ready to throw it away just yet. bill of tualatin, OR March 12, 2010 my scenario is basically identical to the other complaints. i bought this 42" plasma screen at costco about 3 yrs ago. Recently the tv was taking a little while longer to turn on, then recently it started making the clicking sound like it was going to turn on then it would make the clicking sound like it was turning off a few seconds later.. then the red light in the lower left corner of the tv would start blinking. We tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, which only worked for about a week. Now this $1200 piece of crap is totally dead in the water. I have been told by some tv repair people that this is a common problem with these phillips tv's. It is possibly the Power Supply Board I have been told. There is little chance of repairing that board, so it has to be removed and replaced with a new one (part cost 200-300)plus labor and service call charges. I am having someone come out to try to diagnose it. I believe i found the problem when I was looking at the back of the tv for the model #...it says "Assembled in Mexico". There's the problem people... I will never buy another tv manufactured by Phillips again. Let me know if there is ever a class action suit. Does anyone remember when our parents bought a tv and it lasted for 20 years???? christine of sherman oaks, CA March 11, 2010 Spent $440.90 on a 19'HD LCD TV. After the warranty ran out so did the television. The TV began turning off by itself then turning back on. The sound is so loud that I am surprised that the TV has not caught fire. Currently the TV has to go thru the on off cycle for at least 30 minutes and then may or may not stay on after all. At which time I must unplug it and restart the entire cycle. Karla of Culver, IN March 11, 2010 I purchased a Philips 42" plasma TV in 2007. Model # 42PF9631D/37 and on March 8th 2010 it quit working. I was watching the TV and it just shut off. I tried unplugging it and waiting and then plugging it back in. No luck. I went to Consumeraffairs.com and I see that thousands have had the same problem with the same TV. I would love to see a class action lawsuit filed against Philips. I will do everything in my power to make this happen. I am out $1200 for a TV I had less than three years. I am totally OUTRAGED by the insensitivity of Philips. When money is so tight for evetone right now no one is able to just go out and buy a new TV. Robert of Canton, MI March 10, 2010 Plasma TV has red blinking light and will not come on. Also, makes clicks off/on sounds all the time. Financial investment for a product that is dung. Cannot find receipt to return to Sams Club. Nick of Mechanicsville, MD March 8, 2010 My mother recently purchased a 32" Philips Flat Screen Television (Model# 32PFL3504D/F7) on April 25th, 2009 from Costco thinking she had made a smart purchase. Little did she realize that the television would be useless in less than 7 months. Around Thanksgiving 2009, I noticed she had to press the power button several times simply to get the TV to start. I asked her how long this had been going on and she told me only a few days. Considering that Christmas was rolling in fast, she did not want to give her TV over to a repairman until after the holidays (money issues) and I decided to do a little research. My first call was made to Costco and their wonderful technical support line (turn on sarcasm detectors now) to see if the product could be returned to them. Surprise, surprise...they only offer a 90 Day return policy. They then transferred me to the wonderful world of Philips. I'm not the best with names (and even if I could remember them I choose not to call them out), so let's call the person I worked with 'John'. John referred me to an authorized Philips repair shop that could handle this problem under the 12 month warranty offered by Philips. He then transferred me to a shop off the list and, low and behold, the shop was located in Baltimore which is approximately 2 hours away. I briefly chatted with a woman over the line at the shop and she began to laugh as I told her where I lived in relation to the shop. Perplexed, I decided to give Phillips another ring and received a new 'helpy helperton' named 'Jane'. Jane went through the same process with me but this time said she would have a special technical team that will enter my address into a special program to find a closer repair shop and would contact me within 3-5 business days with the results. I believe they just used Map Quest. 3-5 days finally passed and this time my mother received the call from the wizards over at Philips. First came Fredericksburg (which will play a significant role later), a city in Virginia that is 1 hour and 45 min.'s away. Next was Easton, MD, the same distance and finally, the District of Columbia which is 1 hour and 20 min.'s away (on a good day) and would be my mother's first pick. Realizing we had no choice and that Philips was not ready to take a return or give a refund, my mother got the directions to D.C. and was ready to make the journey. On her own. Thank goodness I found out I had the day off she was going to make the trip up there because it was a nightmare. Being from where I'm from, you kind of get to know D.C. and what parts you should and should not go through. They sent us somewhere we should not go. As a matter of fact, they were going to send my mother someplace she should not go alone to drop off a big, shiny valuable TV If I did not have the day off, she would have had to go to that specific part of D.C. to witness cops searching two guys right outside the repair shop and right down the road from that a bunch a thugs drinking booze on the corner of a liquor store at 9:00 A.M., all by her lonesome. HOW DARE THEY DO THAT? She is an older woman who is oblivious to that kind of situation. And Philips has no idea of the conditions at this repair shop because they have 'never even been there', says one of the customer service representatives. After that ordeal had taken place, I made an immediate call to Philips to voice my opinion to yet another so-called customer service representative who mustered an apology up and said to take it to another repair shop on the list. Thanks. So my mother and a friend brought the TV to a repair shop in Fredericksburg, VA on January 15th, 2010. The people at this repair shop were wonderful and I have no complaints about them. They promised my mother the TV could be fixed and they would call as soon as it was ready. Time elapsed as did the patience of both my mother and myself. She called the shop the first time around the middle of February to get information on the TV but unfortunately the part they needed was on back-order from a company Philips contracts with for their parts. She called a second time which basically mirrored the first telephone call and just recently on March 8th, 2010, she called again to get the all important news: the part will be back-ordered for a very long time and you need to come pick your TV up to send back to Philips for a refurbished television. What in the hell? Why would I want another refurbished T.V.? How do I know that television has not gone through the same problems/situations that the piece of crap my mother owns has been through? And to top it all off, they gave us two options on how to get the refurbished TV: one, get the shipping labels through the mail and send it to Philips with a round trip total of a month OR two, the 'Rapid Exchange' which takes 7-10 days but you have to give a credit card number which can only mean that if there is any damage or trouble, you have to pay for it. And if we do select to take a refurbished TV, you are only allotted a 3 month warranty. If you ask me, I believe it is a ploy to bypass the one-year agreement that Philips gives with a TV because it's coming up on the end of the warranty date and who knows what kind of loopholes they could try and pull on my poor mother. This is where my mother stands as of right now on March 8th, 2010. I can't believe a major company could run people through the ringer like this. Then again, I guess I can after reading all of the complaints that Philips has received. And to reiterate, she has less than 11 months of ownership on this TV and only 8 months of usage. And I ask myself and I ask you, should my mother continue to fight them and get what she really deserves out of this mess or does she just roll over and let Philips win and continue to do this to the next unsuspecting buyer? Philips could just pull the plug on the whole thing and she could be left with nothing but I do expect compensation from this for my mother, whether it be a full refund or a new TV of equal value. I hope others who read this before purchasing a TV from that hack company will reconsider. Nobody should have to go through what she's gone through in this time and age. Thanks a lot Philips. Hope your business continues to thrive on selling worthless electronics. MELANIE of HARLEM, GA March 7, 2010 Bought a 42 inch Philips Plasma Ambilight I have only had it for about 3 years and it doesnt work. The TV will not turn on anymore it blinks a red light we paid 2400.00 for this at Best Buy they said it's not under warranty anymore and if you call Philips you cant even talk to a person. Philips is the absolute worst company ever I will never buy anything from them and I will make sure to tell all my friends never to purchase anything from Philips! So now weve had no TV for about 2 months and from what I hear it's anywhere from 400-700 bucks to fix it. That's alot of money to spend on a TV that was 2400 dollars not to mention we saved up our money to buy a piece of trash! patricia of lawenceville, GA March 5, 2010 Tv automatically shuts off. I read all the complaints and apparentely this is a real problem. After unpluging the tv about 5 times it will come on but as I understand it from other complaints, that is won't last very long before I loose it completley. I have fallen into the red blinking light zone!!!! Theresa of Kansas City, MO March 2, 2010 Purchased a 50 inch flat screen model 42pf7320a/37 two years later it stopped working will not power on and has the flashing red lights on front Corey of Ava, MO March 2, 2010 I purchased a Philips 42" 42PF9631D/37 18 months ago. Today it stopped working, after it powers up all I get is a series of vertical lines on the screen, no audio, no video. I tried the Philips website and I got this vague message under HOW TO SERVICE. "If your Philips product is not working as expected, we recommend you check the information on this website to see if the problem can be solved." So I checked the website. No information about my issue, no technical support, nothing. So I clicked on Call Customer Support, after calling, I got this message. "We're sorry but there are no customer care representatives for our television products, for service please contact your local service center. Goodbye." So Philips makes a bad product, their manual sends you to a site which offers no support and has you call a number which offers even less support. I will never again purchase a Philips/Norelco/Senseo/Sonicare product. Even if it means paying more or driving farther or doing without. I will encourage my family, friends, and complete strangers to avoid this brand like the plague. Bad service, or bad support is one thing, but a complete lack of support for a product that never should have been made, should have been recalled, or at the very least have some sort of customer service. Philips lost a long time customer today. Donald of Kapaa, HI March 1, 2010 I purchased a Phillips Model#42PF9431D137 Flatscreen TV from Costco about 3 years ago for $1200. Like dozens (probably hundreds) of other consumers- The television will not turn on. When you plug in the TV, a Green power light comes on -. (no picture)It soon goes off and is replaced by red blinking lights (7 times-pauses-then repeats again) I worked in the TV electronics business for over 10 years and never experienced such a poor product. I would like to be refunded my full purchase price from Phillips. Lorene of Bandera, TX March 1, 2010 We have a 50 in plasma TV model # 50PF9431D that belong to our son who was in the Airforce, he passed away in 2008 and his TV was sent to us. He had just purchased this TV a couple months prior to his death. We have taken really good care of this TV, because it has senimental value to us, but last week with no warning, this thing just would not power on. We've tried plugging it into a different outlet and nothing happens, no lights, NO nothing! We are VERY upset over this and after doing some research, found out that the list of unhappy customers in the 100's or maybe 1000's, Wow, only 3 years of life from a TV that my son paid over 2200.00 for, this just is not fair. Where is the justice in this picture? Jeffrey of Carmel, IN February 28, 2010 The product which cost me multiple thousands of dollars only a few years ago has recently lost 90% of the picture. Since it is over 12 mos. old, Philips will not even let me talk to a Customer Service person. The product just stopped working. I can barely make out the picture. It is so dark and fuzzy and so very frustrating to see all of this $ go out the window. James of Dothan, AL February 28, 2010 I have been trying to go online to contact Philips concerning a Flat screen HDTV I purchased about two years ago that has just quite working tonight. I cannot find customer support without ther being a charge and I cannot go online as philips promised and verify my warranty information. I am not saified that my Flat screen tv has only lasted two years. I have other brands of tv's that are many, many years older and they are still working. Walter of Long Valley, NJ February 27, 2010 Television model number 42PF7320A/37 Serial Number YA1A0604013387 has stopped working. Philips telephone support line hangs up therefore no support is available. TV is plugged into wall power socket initially powered with green indicator light but then has repeating red blinking light 7 times each. The TV screen is dark and no sound. Searching on-line other people have experienced the same problem. Original cost was $1,861.87 on 2/25/06 Today's Date is 2/26/10 Tim of Chicago, IL February 26, 2010 Philips LCD TV fails to power on. (42 PFL5603D/27) Less than 2 years old. Philips tech support offers no suggestions even thought I"m almost positive it is a simple issue to correct. Nick of blue ridge, VA February 26, 2010 I just found this complant forum about philips tvs. I have a 42 inch plasma that started with the 7 blinking red lights, i would have to unplug it for about a hour and then i could get it to turn on. this started almost 1 year to the day that i bought the tv, so of course when i called philips they said my tv was out of warranty and i would have to pay for any repairs. when i called around to local repair shops they said it was the power supply. I ask the repair shop how common this is for this tv and he said philips has known about this for a long time. This is not fair to have a tv for only 1 year and when it breaks from a known problem philips tells me it is my problem now. I had to save money for a long time to buy a hdtv and when i do finaly get one it is junk. A company should stand behind it products not tell you it is your problem now. They must think money grows on trees and every household that buys its junk can afford to repair or replace it. There is a place in history for companys who do this, it is class action law cases and bankrupsey. George of Kalamazoo, MI February 26, 2010 I bought a 50 inch plasma tv in the fall of 2008. Model 50PF9631D/37. It has always had problems with power that they eventually said was fixed with a "software" upgrade. Now instead of randomly turning on. It wont turn on at all and goes into some kind of diagnostic mode where the red diode blinks 5 or 6 times in a row. When trying to research or find a solution, no way to talk to philips as it is out of warrant and when I search this web site and others there is literally thousands of complaints. I dont' want anything for free, but this was a high end product and price and 2.5 years on a 4000 dollar Tv seems to be an issue that I cannot contact a live person to talk about. randy of denton, TX February 26, 2010 i purchased a 50" rear projection high def.t.v. in 2003,i had problems as soon as i hooked up everything,it had spots on the screen,i called phillips, they told me this sometimes happens and will go away in approx.30-45 days,if not they will send out a tech.,they did and i watched him totally tear apart my brand new $1800.00 t.v. in my living room, this made me sick to my stomach to watch,he spent all day trying to find the problem, when he told me i dont know what's wrong and i am going to order these parts, when they come in i will be back,he called a few days later,he came back and worked a full day installing new parts, this did not fix the problem,he said and i quote this,im ready to just get you another one, then he took apart the screen saver and the screen and found some debris left between the screens from manufacturing, this repaired the problem, i purchased an extended warranty with the t.v.,and im glad i did, because in the middle of july 2004 the spots came back, and everything on the screen was outlined in blue,i called phillips again, they told me to call a local repair shop and the would repair it,i called them, they came to pick it up,when they were rolling it down my hallway out the door they were in a hurry, hitting things,i told them to slow down, this is not a 3.00 toy, please be careful, then they went off the porch with it and broke off a section of the rear wood casing,i told them thats enough,i will load it myself, you are not going to distroy my t.v.,the told me soory about that, then loaded on the truck, they brought it back on 7-28-2004,they told me they replaced to ic somethings, and it is fixed,i hooked everything up and the spots were gone but everything still had a blue outline and they did not bring back the correct remote control,i called them on this and they told me it is the correct remote and the blue outline is not there problem,i need to adjust the picture,i argued with them on the remote and offered to show them a picture of the one they took, they said no need to because i have the correct one,i finally just let it go,now i have been trying to contact philips with the numbers i have in the owners manual, they go to meet a woman in your area,i got on the web to find a number,i called phillips and the lady was rude and told me she could not help me,and im sorry but you bought a 1800.00 dollar piece of junk, this was today 2-25-2010,my problem now is one of the projectors had leaked out all the cooling fluid onto my floor, and inside the t.v.,i cleaned it up and used a wet vac to remove it from the circuit and p.c. boards of the t.v.,she told me these were not good quality units,i did a lot of research before i bought this one,at the time the flat screens were coming out and the ones i looked at were from 8000.00 to 10,000.00 dollars,so this projection t.v. with h.d. was the one to buy,and i would get 15-20 years of service from it.i realize it is 7 yrs. old now,but i have had 5 back surgeries in the past 6 yrs. and this t.v. has not been used a lot, after each surgery i was down for approx.4-8 months on each one,i take very good care of everything i own,im not rich by any means so i have to take cars of stuff,i treat this t.v. as if it is one of my children, and it looks as good today as it did when i purchased it. on the first page of the owners manual it state's,thank you for your confidence in philips,i have selected one of the best-built,best- backed, products available today and we will do everthing in our power to keep you happy with this purchase for many years to come.as a member of the philips "family",im intitled to protection by one of the most comprehensive warranties with outstanding service in the industry, sincerely -lawrence j.blanford, president and chief executive offer, quiet the sells pitch,i had to contact several repair shops to see what it wold take to repair it[due to the lady at philips electronics telling me she could not help and there is no one else i could talk to about this, just buy your self a new t.v.]the repair shop told me it will be about 700.00-800.00 dollars to rebuild the leaking projectors, and the cooling fluid is poison,[the lady at phillips did not bother to tell me this] and i have grand children at my house often as well as my to small inside pets, this does not set well with me, i spend my money wisely and try to buy the best i can afford,i now im stuck with an $1800.00 fish-tank,this is not right, and i will never buy another philips product again, and also i asked the lady at philips if they sold out,she told me no we did not,we are still the same company,i asked this because none of the phone numbers in my manual are philips electronics,so i asked 6 different repair shops about this, they told me they did sell-out and they will not help customers and a lot of shops will not work on there stuff because of this,so this leaves the buyer out in the cold, but philips has there money,i guess that is what matters to them, the numbers in my manual are,1-800-531-0039,1-800-952-3254,the model of my t.v. is, 50pp9202,sr.# 77377022,hope this helps buyers to beware of philips electronics, thank you. Ross of Cumming, GA February 23, 2010 I purchased a 50" Phillips Plasma TV for $2700 got 2.5 years of service and now the red blinking light issue has struck. Searched online and saw how many others have similar experience. HH Gregg is not the problem they would do what they could but we are out of warranty. I have other TV's that are many years older and still work fine. I will never buy another Philips product again as i see they will not take care of a issue that seems to affect the majority of the units they sell. Just google phillips tv issues and see what you get Janice of Ocala, FL February 23, 2010 I am responding to my original complaint on Jan. 26, 2010; regarding a defective 42" Flat Screen TV -Phillips, I purchased last October of 2009. After posting my detailed complaints on dealings with Phillips trying to ge the defective TV replaced, the issue has finally been settled and a new 42" Flat Screen TV was shipped to me by their President of Liasion - Suzanne Y. She told me the matter had been mishandled and she would have a new TV sent to me. As of Feb. 23, 2010; the new TV is hooked up and working fine unlike the defective one I originally purchased, or the "refurbished" one Phillips initially sent me for replacement. Main issue is the matter is finally resolved, and Suzanne Y. has asked that I remove my initial complaints from your site. Were it not for the complaint I can never be sure that anything would have been done? Initial Flat Screen TV 42" purchased from Target Store in Ocala was defective. Replacement from Phillips was a refurbished TV, and they changed the warranty to 90 days from the original 1 yr. Complained directly to Doug at Phillips who still would not offer to send a new one after I complained that they sent me a used one, or "refurbished" as they call it. So I posted my complaints on your site, and got a response from Suzanne Y. President of Liasion with Phillips. She sent me a new TV, and picked up the "refurbished" one. The matter has now been resolved. Deborah of Hudson, OH February 23, 2010 I purchased a 19 inch Magnavox TV 2 years ago. Model # 19MF337B/27. We use it only about 30 minutes in the am and an 30 min.in thepm. The picture on the screen is completely frozen. There is no sound. Nothing in the product manual addresses the problem. The customer support line offers no live support to answer questions. It directs you to their website that has no information. The warranty apparently is 90 days. I paid $338 for this TV at Best Buy. It should last more than 2 years, especially considering we don't use it heavily. I will never purchase another Magnavox TV of any kind. Poor quality and neglible customer service. Poor, poor, poor quality. We will most likely have to purchase a new TV because the cost to repair this one will be most likely over $200. Todd of Vail, AZ February 22, 2010 My tv is 3 months old Philips tells me because it is last years model I am out of service. I just bought the tv from target How is that. I will No longer by another product from them and will post on every board on the net. I just bought the tv $900 down the drain Mark of Meridian, ID February 22, 2010 2 year old 47PFL9732D/37, damaged LCD screen (crack in screen). Called for service, part had been discontinued, called Philips was informed that the cost to repair is in excess of just buying a new TV. The part LC470WU2-SLA, although unavailable is still listed in various parts databases and is listed anywhere from $500 - $700. I was told to replace the TV. Here is where it gets interesting. We paid over $2000 for this TV because it has the Ambilight feature we adore and enjoy. It is difficult to watch big screen LCD's without it once you become accustomed. Philips no longer offers the Ambilight in the United States. Philips has no part and won't repair. Philips tells me my only option is to replace yet they don't even have the product with Ambilight to serve as a replacement. The TV was in perfect condition and was only moved while we are having a BRAND NEW (3 weeks old Philips 52PFL4703D/F7 taken in for repair due to it not powering on. So I deal with one quality issue, try to accommodate with the 47" so we can enjoy the Olympics, accidentally damage the screen while moving and now am left with No TV until the 52" is repaired. The 47" is essentially trash with no repair options. The customer service supervisor stated they are warranty support only and other than advising me to replace, have no offers or suggestions to the consumer. I personally feel that it is irresponsible for a company to offer product and not allow for repair. They should disclose this up front so that consumers can consider prior to purchasing. I would never purchase product from a company with these policies. They consider a large ticket investment such as a LCD as disposable??? I can't believe I supported their products. I even own tooth brushes, stereo equipment from Philips. At a minimum they should offer a consolation price to move into a newer product. The amblight is available and in full production for Europe. Angela of Elizabethtown , KY February 22, 2010 Bought a 42" HDTV 13 months ago for $1,100. It started turning off by itself, and made a popping noise when it did. Trying to find out where the problem was coming from, I unhooked everything from the TV except the dvd player. I put in a movie and tried to turn on the TV but it didnt do anything..except make a chirpping noise..so now it sets in my living room as a eye sore..I thought I was one of a few..turns out not to be the case..I would have been happy with 5 yrs from the TV but 13months just doesnt cut it..I have a TV that is 13 yrs old and works like new..but its NOT a Philips.. Charles of Richmond, TX February 20, 2010 I have same problem as everyone else with no power and flashing red light on 47in. LCD Philips TV. (2 1/2 yrs. old) Question now is what do we do about this. Here are some choices: 1. Contact Philips 1-888; philips.com; P.O. Box, Marietta, GA, 30006-0026. 2. Contact law firm to join class action against Philips for your defective Plasma or LCD TV: 1-877- 3. Contact the BBB: bbb.org and follow steps to file a complaint. 4. Contact your local media outlets and talk to people that handle consumer complaints. Be patient with all of these. Philips of course will tell you they can't help you but it is a first step and at least you can voice your disgust with them. I got a response within a couple of days from BBB. I got immediate response from calling class action number. Be patient. It will take a long time for legal matters to be settled. In the meantime we can make the complaints that will help support our claim. This consumer complaint web site has been a great forum to voice our problem with Philips. I noticed that it has posted complaints against them with the same problem since 2005. Philips had to know that they had problems with the quality of their LCD and Plasma tvs. However, they are still selling the same product today only under a different model and serial number. They have to know that when the warranty is up that even if you take your tv to a repair shop you are told that it will cost too much and it will break down again. It is not only disgracful but criminal what Philips has been getting away with all these years. Start calling and writing and good luck. Loss of over $1700 and a 47in. LCD HD flat screen TV taking up space in my garage. Cannot get it fixed. Tim of Hutto, TX February 20, 2010 I don't know where this company is located but if I did they would get my tv back through the window. It is really bad that a company will not stand behind a product they manufacture. I purchased a 42" plasma two years ago as a Christmas present for my wife and almost to the date of purchase it just went out while we were watching it. We took it to a repair shop and told us it was the power suppy. It was going to cost 450.00 to repair, 350.00 for power supply and 100.00 to replace. I went to philps web site and chatted with one of their reps, he said that it might be a hardware problem. I said, well that sould be a manufacture defect and he told me no it wasn't. That upset me. so I called philips parts. They quated me 550.00 just for the power supply. That is a rip-off. I have been telling everyone I talk to about philips products and not to waste your hard earned money on them. oh yea, I spent 900.00 for a paperwate. Manuela of Galveston, TX February 19, 2010 I purchased a 42" Philip HDTV one year ago and now it fail to turn on. I can not get it fixed thru warranty, and would havee to take it to be reapired because the switchboard went out. I hae only had this tv for one year and have kept it in great condition. I have never laid it face down ir on its back it has always been right side up when moved. It has not been in extreme heat or cold. My tv does not work. KELVIN of ORLANDO, FL February 19, 2010 I BROUGHT A 50" philips ambilight plasma about 4 years ago and the tv started with the same problem as everyone else i have read, the red blinking light. I unplugged it and plugged it back and it did not come back on. this was an exspensive tv at the time i brought it for $4000.What now who is respondisble for reinburstment to the consumer. Michael of Lincoln Park, NJ February 19, 2010 32" LCD less than 2 years old (have receipts). Shut off on its own and now all I get is 6linking LEDs next to the blue (that was on when tv was ok) Michael of Lincoln Park, NJ February 19, 2010 Philips Flat TV 32" stop working while showing a flashing red led light(six flashes). This TV is only 2 years old. It was purchased from DELL in 2007. By reading so many bad comments I felt the need to write the issues with my TV. Philips TV is a waste. I will never buy or recommend anybody to buy a Philips product. Seth of Clarksville, IN February 18, 2010 I bought a 42" Philips TV about approx 3 years ago and today I tried to turn it on and got nothing but a red blinking light. (It made 7 red lighted blinks.) I will never buy a Philips product again. Repair companies want $500+ to fix. I will have to buy a new TV. Daniel of homestead, FL February 15, 2010 50PF9731D 50-Inch Plasma HDTV with Ambilight. TV won't turn on after 3 years of use. Red Light Blinking. Its terrible to spend so much money on Plasma and only give three years of life. I'm only 33 and I will never buy another Phillips product again! Charles of Tampa, FL February 14, 2010 My 50' Phillips Ambilight plasma TV will not longer power on. Phillips should recall and replace this product, as it is clearly defective! I paid nearly $2000.00 for this TV just 2 years ago and now it no longer works - This is completely unacceptable! J of Rocky Face, GA February 12, 2010 I bought a Magnavox 37" TV model #37MF321D/37 in December 2006. The green power light blinks but the set will not turn on. I see others have had this same problem and although the warranty has expired it appears that this is a manufacturing defect that should be subject to recall. 3 years useful life of a $1000 TV is un-acceptable, and use has been limited. I would never purchase any product with the Magnavox brand in the future. David of san antonio, TX February 12, 2010 I purchased a 42" plasma T.V. model#42pfp5332d/37 serial #ya1co802020356 in june of 2008. I has turned off. All I get is a series of 6 red blinking lights..Tech support told me that the T.V. was no longer good. It would be best to buy another one..I was shocked. I took to a tv repair shop and he inform me that the power supply might need replacing but it was difficult to determine. IT would cost more than the tv was actually worth. I googled philips plasma tv and found out that I am not alone on this defective t.v. What can we consumers do if our tv manufacturers are profit motivated to the point of screwing us Americans out of hard earn income???? This T.V. has less than 500 actual viewing hours on it..not even two years old yet...It is hard to believe that we are always getting screwed by corporate america. Kevin of Olathe, KS February 12, 2010 Well, I have now fallen victim to the extremely poor quality of Philips Electronics Plasma TV's. I purchased the 50" 50PF9631D/37 from BestBuy back in Nov of 2006, so basically got 3 years for $2,200. A couple weeks ago my wife called me at work because she could not get the TV to come on, it just flashed the red light of death. Of course there is absolutely nothing in the "Owners Manual" about this, so no idea what was going on. When I arrived home I unplugged the TV and waited a few minutes before plugging it back in. It came on with no problems so I didn't give it much thought until it happened again this past Sunday. This time I unplugged it for several hours and, again, it came back on. Well, it looks like it has finally decided to no longer work at all. I knew I should have gone with the Sony as I have an old, as in 20+ years, 15" model that is still working as a champ. Two of those years was on a ship being exposed to sea air and then being shipped back to the states from the Philippines. Not only do we need to keep supporting companies like Philips, but we need to work with our stores to get them to quit carrying the junk. I am currently working on contacting several local news stations in the Kansas City area to see if they will run stories about this problem. We need to get the word out and hopefully see companies like this go bankrupt where they belong. Has anyone seen what happens when a rock goes through a plasma screen? I'm seriously thinking about doing it with this one and maybe recording it for a certain website. Patricia of Worthington, KY February 11, 2010 I purchased a 50 inch Plasma Television from Ashland, Ky. Walmart on 1/14/2007 paying $1797.00. In September 2009 the television had a red blinking light that appeared and then once the television went off it could not come back on. At that time I tried to contact Philips Magnavox with no results because they will not even speak to you if you have owned the television for more that 1 year or have an extended warranty. I took the television to a tv repair shop which is the only place that works on plasma's. They diagnosed the problem has the power supply and replaced it. The television worked great until 2/11/2010 and once more it went back out and will not come back on. I tried to contact Magnavox once more but same results as before. Looking on your consumer complaint site I see I am not the only person having these issues. I am very disappointed with this whole ordeal and think Philips should have done a recall when these problems were recognized. Chris of Pico Rivera, CA February 10, 2010 My parents purchased the Philips Plasma 50" and today 'IT' happened. Came home and my dad said the TV stopped working. He showed me the "blinking red light" and I immediately went online to read if anyone had reported this problem and it actually kind of broke my heart to see how many people had been screwed by this product. It makes me so angry that my parents are old retired people and just three years ago they spent $2000 on a fancy new TV. I wish they would have consulted me before hand because they never do research, but this was a new product for Philips anyway. I contacted Philips and just like to everyone else their only advice was to contact a TV repair person. I went off and said that I knew they knew this product is defective and they should do more to help us all out but there was no sympathy AT ALL. I was told repeatedly that there was nothing they could do. My only hope is that Costco will take this back. I hear their return policies have changed and they are not so lenient anymore but i'm encouraging my parents to give it a try. I too am letting everyone i know to not buy any Philips products. Dan of Raleigh, NC February 8, 2010 Same story as everyone else. DO NOT BUY A PHILIPS TV. I wish I had come across this site before purchasing. My TV is flashing red and won't turn on - this is apparently EXTREMELY common and too expensive to fix. What a waste of money. Can't believe that Philips can get away with this. Approximately $1,500 lost. Linda of Lawrenceburg, IN February 8, 2010 Lowdown on "six red flashes" for Philips flatscreen tv's... seem to be any size... from 2007 til recent our "professional (diagnosis was 50/50 shot on "power supply" and "brains" of the tv. May as well buy a new tv if you did not purchase an extended warranty through the store where you purchased. Sorry for your luck... This REALLY stinks! ....X Philips consumer! Re-posted for quick user entries. Wilson of Middle Village, NY February 7, 2010 Philips Flat TV 42" Pixel Plus stop working showing a flashing red led. This TV is only 2 years old. It was purchased at Costco in 2007. By reading so many bad comments I felt the need to write the issues with my TV. Philips TV is a waste. I will never buy or recommend anybody to buy a Philips product. Charles of Richmond, TX February 6, 2010 I purchased a Philips HD LCD TV from Wall Mart in Richmond Tx in June, 2007. Model # 47PFL5432D/37. Three weeks ago it turned off by itself. I can not turn it back on. Unplugged it and waited 30 minutes, plugged back in and only red light blinks on and off with no picture. I recently took it to a tv repair shop and they connected it to a diagnostic program. They said board to be replaced would be more than $500 but recommended not to bother because it would break down again. Repairman warned do not ever buy a Philips or Magnovox product. They burn out within 2-3 years. This is $1700 too late for me. Since then I did research on the Internet and found out thousands of other people are having the same problem wiht Philips manufactured LCD and Plasma flat screen HD TV's. I located the following web site that lists numerous complaints. I called Philips support and they told me to conact a tv shop. I also contacted Philips on-line help and chatted with a support person. Laura told me there is no help for me. I only had the TV for two and a half years and used it in a normal way. The electrical parts to the main board should not burn out that soon. The cost for repair will be $500 to more than $1000. I have receipt from Wal-Mart and still have the TV. I now have to purchase another one. I have Mitsubishi TV that is 18 years old and had other TV's that lasted 15 years or more. As you can see from the previously mentioned website, I am not the only one with this problem. Philips refuses to compensate in any manner or recall and fix this TV. What can I do to get some kind of monetary or cover of cost of repair? Thank you and please help. gail of tampa, FL February 5, 2010 Purchased a Philips Magnavox 55" surround sound projection tv on 9/23/2000 and used it about 5 times for about 1/2 at a time. I was saving it for when i had company so i watched my less expensive tv's. P.S. i went to turn it on last week 1/2010 and all that came on the tv was the green power light. I had verizon come and check the cable box, and that was working fine. I had the geek squad come and look at it - and thats all he did was look at it - not even go up to it and look inside, and tell me that he had the same tv and something went, and they dont make parts for it anymore. How can something go if you dont use it? It had no power going to it - it was plugged into a surge protector that was shut off. I paid over $1500.00 for that tv - so it cost me $300.00 an hour to watch it. You cant even get intouch with a live person on the phone. And when you call the parts department, they dont even realize that they dont make parts for this tv anymore. The model is 9P5511C10Z manufactured 8/14/2000. Serial #46627193. If i would have known this sooner i would have reported them to the better business bureau. And the person on the phone from Philips Magnavox told me to get a private tv repair service to fix it since my extended warrenty expired. We live on a fixed income now, but when i bought this tv i was only taking home $249.00. Do you think this is fair for honest people going to work everyday for such low pay, to scrimp and save for something that was defective from the beggining? And this company doesnt even have the respect or consideration to admit that there is a defect from day 1 that the tv was put on the market. If there is going to be a law suit filed count me in. I'm sorry i waited so long, and just occasionally used this tv. But then again, i guess i would have only had less than a year to enjoy it anyway. I have a sharp tv that has lasted me over 15 years and a sony tv that has lasted me 13 years, and they are constantly used. Shame on me for being so trustful, and Shame on philips magnavox for not compentsating the people who bought their junk, and still have the nerve to still distribute their product on the market. David of Ridgecrest, CA February 4, 2010 Much to my surprise after looking my product up on consumeraffairs.com thousands are experiencing the same problem I have: Model: 42PF9431D/37 Desc: 42" Plasma TV. Problem: Plug tv in, receives power for 5-10 seconds, shuts itself off, & gives the red light that blinks 7 times. TV is less than 3 years old. Contacted online customer service and they were not even the slightest bit helpful. I feel like I was scammed. Bought the tv for ~ $1100. I might as well have just given Philips the money for nothing. Linda of Lawrenceburg, IN February 3, 2010 I recently posted a complaint in December 2009 about my 50" Philips model# 50PF9631D/37 with the six flashes of death. Much to my surprise we HAD purchased a four year warranty with Best Buy! Whew! The geek squad came to our house and they found that it is a 50/50 problem with either the "power supply board" and or the "brains" of the tv. So they have ordered both parts and will replace them next week. They also stated that without the warranty would be a VERY expensive fix... may as well buy a new tv. I asked them if they had many calls on this particular model...much to my surprise they said they had not. I told them of this web site and to go take a look at it because there are hundreds like me. OH... once I found out we had the warranty I went to the online tech with Philips and it made no difference. With or without the warranty they were cryptic and useless. So I let them know the findings on the problem of our tv and I believe the tech did a lot of copying and pasting to his responses...so much I asked if this was computer generated or if I was talking with a real person. Found out to be real but I told him he was cryptic and of no help. Philips also needs to add this problem to the user manual! That was the best advise the tech would give me AND to contact a local repair man AFTER I had told him that the geek squad was coming that day ...SEVERAL times! ugh! I also contacted our local tv station...they have a piece on "Don't waste your money" He replied back to me stating he had done a piece on throw away tv's a while back and stated that Philips, Vizio and Insignia were now discount brands and "Don't waste your money!" I hope this helps all of you with FINALLY a diagnosis although a VERY expensive one! Check with your store where you bought it... I was only trying to get info and found out we purchased the $300 warranty! kathy of aurora, IL February 1, 2010 I purchased, after saving a considerable time as a single mom, a philips 32" flat panel lcd tv in May or June of 2007. In June of 2009, it just died. Susan Y., presidential liason of Philips electronics said to take it to Dan's tv, at their expense, for repair. I was told it could not be fixed, a which time she said that they would to a buyout for the amount of $550. I have called many, many times, left messages that have gone unreturned. I have no other way to contact this company, I have tried to obtain more corporate names and numbers to no avail. I would just like them to do the right thing and reimburse me for a faulty product. My kids and I now watch an old 19" tv. I will continue to post via the internet on any website I can, my story about this company so that other consumers will make their purchases at a company that stands behind their product and cares about their customers than Philips. At this time, I could really use that money back in my pocket. (Susan, I really don't know how you sleep at night...) Deanna of Framingham, MA January 30, 2010 My former roommate bought Philips plasma tv 42pf9631d/37 in the fall of 2006 at Sears for $2,000. He had to move from MA to FL. I bought from him $1,500 by monthly payment agreement. I just paid off then several months later, tv stopped working. I called philips on the phone and Internet chat online... Philips Tech Support has no idea how to help me with troubleshootings. Had me try many different things. I find the tech support is so useless they have no idea what to do ! I brought TV to small business to see if they can fix. They replace battery caps because they were blown. It still doesn't work ! I had Sears TV Tech came here with real technology things he did to inspect TV and said it is NO GOOD. TOASTED ! Wasted my money ! I have 3 tube TVs that run for 10-20 yrs now. Sears Tech recommended me to purchase Samung that is reliable and longevity. I found out more information there are many consumers complaining about Philips plasma TVs. I feel like Philips make all lemon TVs and sell to earn dishonest monetary business ! I want HDTV that can go for other 10-20 yrs just like tube tvs Wayne of Dudley , MA January 29, 2010 We are among the many that bought a 42"flat screen plasma (model 42PF732OA-37 ) that we bought in 10/06 at our local bj's. we payed 1,800 for it, worked a year and a half, then ouit. Repairman told us its a common problem, 500 to fix and will happen again. We saved for this tv, and it is not fair that Philips gets a way with selling problem tv's and gets a way with it. The tv now sits downstairs, might be to late for us to complain but this is not fair. thank you for your time Charles of Richmond, TX January 28, 2010 I posted a complaint on 1/27/2010 involving my 47 in. Philips LCD HD flat screen TV. I forgot to include the model number. It is 47PFL5432D/37. Again - Only had for 2 yrs. 6 months and power went out then flashing red light. TV tech states not worth fixing - will break down again. Charles of Richmond, TX January 28, 2010 I purchased a Philips HD LCD TV from Wall Mart in Richmond Tx in June, 2007. Two weeks ago it turned off by itself. I can not turn it back on. Unplugged it and only red light blinks on and off with no picture. I recently took it to a tv repair shop and they connected it to a diagnostic computer. They said board to be replaced would be more than $500 but recommended not to bother because it would probably break down again. Repairman warned do not ever buy a Philips or Magnovox product. This is $1700 too late for me. Rhome of Ewa Beach, HI January 26, 2010 My wife and I are blue collared workers who decided to purchase a Philips 42 inch 1080p LCD TV with ambilight. They should invest on their quality not on advertisement such as the green hulk that lures potential victims such as ourselves. We work hard for the money that we paid for their products only to get ripped off. The TV is only 15 months old, it was made long enough to dodge the warranty. I took my time to change all of the visible capacitors on the power supply board since there is no visible rapture. Only to come to the conclusion that, It could very well be the Signal board which cost about, $300 dollars. LCD now are so much cheaper and I think it is wiser for us to get a SONY, Sharp or Panasonic on our next purchase, when we can afford it. For now I'm back to watching my 15 year old 27 inch Sharp tube TV. Warn your friends and Families about getting any Philips product because you dont want them to go through what we went through. I will join the class action lawsuit. Daren of Marianna, FL January 26, 2010 The Magnavox 50MF231D/37 plasma TV stopped working after barely 2 years of service. It is exhibiting the common problem of not coming on. The light swictes from greeen to red and then continues to flas red opnly. I guess everyone is calling it the "Red Light Special Syndrome". Hundered of owner are expressing their dissatisfaction with theses Magnavox plasma TVs. At one point it would come on by umpugging it several times, but now that no longer works. Please help. I am out of $1500 for a HD TV which lasted barely 2 years. Jim of Lake Helen, FL January 26, 2010 Product ID:42" Plasma, 42PF7220A137, purchased October 2005. Pink to black screen of death. No picture, no sound. Read the other posts to this page and you get the "picture". Same issue, same problem, same customer service from Phillips. Phillips says in their owner manual: "..... We'll do everything in our power to keep you happy with your purchase for many years to come. "......Most importantly you can count on our uncompromising commitment to your total satisfaction." Lies. From a consumer point of view, what else can be said? Tour the various consumer sites, relate this issue in the search pane and there you are. Same response. Unfortunately, if you're reading this you've been hosed with the rest of us. My you tube complaint is next....watch for the "smashing of the Phillips." I smash mine....you smash yours, more of us do the same, maybe we get their attention. Duh....Phillips and Mr. R., President of Phillips Consumer Electronics simply don't give a [care]. HEMANG of CLIFTON, NJ January 26, 2010 TV tries to turn on & green power light comes On but then hear some clicking & set powers down & green light turns red & flashes 7 times repeatedly. Model # 42PF7320A/37 Bought from Philips directly This is a known problem with Philips and there are many many pages of complain about this issue and I believe there is a class action law suite. It's clearly a manufacturing defect, and their customer service tactic has been to delay, and trying to wait for the product of fall out of warranty period. Our Philips Model #42PF9631D/37 Plasma TV is less than 2 years old and has already quit working. When I unplug it and re-plug, the light will click green like it's going to come on, only to turn to a red blinking light. Neither the on/off button on the tv, nor the remote will turn it on or off. I called their 1-800 number only to have a recording tell me that I'd have to call a repairman. I used the "live chat" on their web site and was told the same thing. Upon looking this problem up online, it seems that this is a repeating problem for Philips and they aren't willing to do provide the necessary repairs. Paula of Milwaukee, WI January 26, 2010 42 inch plasma blinks red light for seven times won't turn on told it is the plasma panel and that Phillips was well aware of this problem and that the stores that purchased the products were having problems with Phillips and they were no longer going to sell the products. Closed them out and offered them to the consumers and really good prices in order to get rid of them. i believe that they have committed consumer fraud.1800.00 down the tube what a joke someone should file a class action lawsuit! Janice of Ocala, FL January 26, 2010 on 10-25-2010 I purchased a Phillips Flat Screen TV 42" from Target in Ocala,Fla. After I hooked it up it started freezing up and would only come up on the screen Phillips. Since this is my first experience with a Flat Screen I called Phillips since they are the manufacturer. I spoke with a few different people with Phillips and they decided to send in a repairman for diagnosis. The repairman said they would have to order a part and someone would come back to install it. In a few days they came back and installed the part Phillips sent. Then after installing the part the TV began to hum. The repairman said that it could stop working at any time with the hum, and that Phillips needed to replace the TV. We called Phillips back and they informed us that they were sending us a new TV to replace the defective one. The replacement TV arrived UPS Ground and the box was shredded and ripped. The replacement had been thrown, tossed, and turned by UPS as all ground freight is handled. We called Phillips to notify them of the condition in which the TV arrived and they said and I quote "We do it all the time" it will be fine!!! We hooked up the replacement TV and there is a hum in it also. Not as loud but still a hum. Then I looked at the new warranty manual they sent with the replacement and it said "refurbished". The serial # and model # did not match the tv they sent. I called them again to give them all the news. I wanted my new TV and they informed me they reserve the right to replace a defective new tv with a refurbished one!!! Then they changed my 1 year warranty on my new tv to 90 days on their reburbished tv. So I bought a new tv with a 1 year warranty, received a used tv with a reduced warranty of 90 days for which they covered up with a sticker. So since apparently this is the way Phillips and probably all of the others are now treating consumers no one will buy tv's!!! I want a new TV with a year's warranty for all time since October, 2010; I have lost dealing with this nightmare!!! Any assistance that is out there please help me. This is not right and I have been taken advantage of. Taylor of Little Rock, AR January 21, 2010 Awful. I purchased a Phillips 50-inch plasma TV (Model# 50PF7321D/37)in December 2006 for $1900. This past July 2009, the TV quick working i.e. no picture or sound. Called authorized repair company Lin's TV in Little Rock,AR. Since July 2009, Lin's has been ordering the part called the "panel". I was told the price would be $1014 for parts and labor.Just recently found out that the model has been discontinued and there are NO parts. I think that this terrible. In order for my family to have a television in our family room, I am going to have to purchase a new one. I talked to Customer Service and they don't seem to care at all. I have 3 other TV's that are at least 7 years old , one is 15 years old and they all work fine. None of them cost over $400. However, the $1900 2-year old TV doesn't work. I think it's unfair for Philips to discontinue this model without making parts available. I think that Philips is an unscrupulous company. Just look at the massive number of customer complaints. I will never buy a Philips product again and I will make sure that no one I know does either. The repair shop is tired of me calling them that they are offering to sell me a LCD TV for $850. Someone please help us with this! There are thousands of complaints. It is not fair for hard-working people to be manipulated out of thousands of dollars for a television. We are helpless against Philips. This is not fair Jema of Waldorf , MD January 20, 2010 Purchased television in 2006' for $1600.00 from Circuit City purchased warranty. Warranty expired and the television will no longer turn on. I have never heard of a television not working after 3 years until coming across this website . Called Phillips and asked for referral for repairs....they were of no assistance. I will never again purchase a Phillips product! Now I have to consider purchasing another television.....what a waste of money! Erika of West Chicago, IL January 17, 2010 We bought 42" Philips plasma tv from Costco in April 2006, it cost us $1700 plus taxes. 3 years later sudden from nowhere the red blinking light appeared, it blinks 7 times than stops and blinks again, tv is not turning on. We changed the capasitors like other people did, it did not fixed the problem and we don't know what to do next. We work to hard for our money, we can't afford to buy new tv's every 3 years. As we search, many many people have the same problem, so Philips makes bad product, they should admit it, recall their tv's and return people their money to buy Sony, who will last you 25 years. Susan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL January 17, 2010 We bought the TV 3 years ago and for the past year have had trouble turning in on. After reading this site I see that we are not the only ones with problems. Philips should be responsible for a TV that is that expensive! Is there a class action suit against Philips???? Can anyone help with this problem? Sheila of Orange Beach, AL January 13, 2010 I bought a 50 inch televion 50PL9126D/37 the summer of 2006, broke on Thanksgiving 2009, the red light came on. Took the tv to repairman, who said it was the color-wheel, he tried to find a part for me and found that Philips discontinued their projection line in 2007 and they don't have any replacement parts for any of these tv's. I called the 888 # and talked with a "Jean" in the customer service department who basically said there is nothing she can do for me as its not her fault they discontinued projection tv's. I definitly wouldn't want to buy one of their home defibrillators! RR of Atlanta, GA January 12, 2010 I purchased a (Philips)Magnavox 37" LCD TV at a Walmart in Atlanta, GA in April 2007. By the January of 2009, I started having problems with the sound. I purchased a 2yr extended warranty from Walmart when I purchased the TV. The problem was initially diagnosed as a bad motherboard, which the technician did not bring with him. A few weeks later, the part is delivered and installed. I noticed just as the technician was leaving that the green power light on the bottom right hand corner of the TV took almost a minute to turn off when the TV was powered off. A few weeks later the TV wouldn't turn on at all. Again, another visit by the tech and it was determined that the motherboard that replaced the original one was defective too. This time, I had to wait weeks for a replacement part that I initially was told was not available. Finally got the new motherboard and in or around October 2009 I had to manually turn the TV on and off as neitehr the manufacturer's nor the cable remote would work. By now the extended warranty I purchased had expired. Turns out that the manufacturer's warranty was something like 3 or 6 months and the extended warranty started immediately. As of last week Tuesday, January 5, 2010, I can't even power the TV on manually now! Arrrrrgh! I have owned many TVs previously and guess what? ALL of them still work well and have never been repaired.... until this piece of garbage. How do I throw out what 'looks' like a brand new TV (just over 2 years old)> Yes,I called Philips! No, the representative was not helpful outside of referring me to a local repair shop. Is there a LCD/Plasma/Philips 'junkyard' where we can sell the parts of the TV that still work????? Valerie of Albuquerque, NM January 12, 2010 I purchased a 50" Philips Plasma TV in Feb. of 07 and pd $1600 for the TV and tv bracket. This year I began having problems turning the TV on. When I turn it on and it's plugged in, the TV just makes a clicking noise. The picture won't come on. I've tried leaving it uinplugged and even turning the braker on and off and it still doesn't turn on. Now I have to leave it unplgged all the time because when it's plugged it continues to make that irritating clicking sound. I've called The Wal-mart where I purchased it and they gave me an 800 # to call that is a adult hotline!! I'm so frustrated and disappointed with this plasma TV!! I can't get through to anyone at Philips and am at my wit's end with this junky TV. Sonny of Hickman, CA January 12, 2010 Like so many other people purchase in 2006 a 50 inch plasma model #50PF9631D/37 and the tv is now not working properly. When I go to turn on get the red blinking lights and will not turn on. After researching online every says it's blown capacitors. Phillips should be correcting this problem no matter if you have an extended warrenty or not. You pay good hard earned money for this types of tv's and you hope they will last longer than a few years ... D of Jupiter, FL January 11, 2010 I bought 2 Phillips TV's in December 2006. My 42" LCD is so far ok. But my 50" (50PF9731D/37)started the 'red blinking' light problem......I too went back to point of purchase (Best Buy) where I was told it would be a costly fix. So I decided to search online....and came upon this blog among others. I did join the class action suit I found on another site (doylelowther.com/cases.php)...not sure if it will get us anywhere...but it is worth a shot. I as well will never purchase another Philips product. Anthony of Greensboro , NC January 9, 2010 I got a 46in Phillips amp light plasma tv in 2007 right after i got out of the marine corp. as off dec 2009. the dang thing wont turn on it flashes red lights and i have to unplug it several times before it will turn on. i have had other problems with it before this but didnt pay them much attention since i could turn it off and on and it would be fine. such as a green or purple screen comeing on or it having lines in it and also coming on with no sound. but having to unplug and plug it in 20 times before it works is a pain. i paid 2400 with taxes for this thing at best buy after shopping around this seemed like the best tv for the price. well its not don't ever buy a Phillips tv. it should not break after 2 1/2 years. i would much rather pay 600 for a vizio from walmart next time and have it last longer. Glorinda of Reeds, MO January 7, 2010 Purchased the 50" Philips Plasma Ambi light TV in Jan of 2007 from Sears had an ice storm and had no power for over a week and couldn't even watch the tv. About two weeks later the TV went orange and then green. Service man came to repair the set, he had to order a part. Waited another week, the repairman installed the part, told me to take the TV back to the store and get a new TV. Went back and ordered another Philips TV. The set was available for pick up on March 10th 2007. In November 2009 the red light of death came. I thought the TV was done for, then a couple of weeks later I tried it again and it came on. Now it comes on maybe once a week!! The help from the Customer Service help line was a joke. This is what you get for $1300.!!!! Never buy a Philips product!! Tonia of Reseda, CA January 6, 2010 I purchased a 42 in. plasma tv from Costco made by Philips for over $1,700. After 2 years it quit working. I searched the net and it seems that this happened to numerous people who have the same tv.Has there been a recall for this or is there any recourse that I can take regarding this? Bob of Hoffman Estates, IL January 5, 2010 Phillips 50" Plasma TV. Red lights of death. Began st 3 years. No help at Phillips. 50pf9431d_37 $2500 Randal of Fayetteville , WV January 4, 2010 Purchased Philips plasma tv 50pf7321/37 on November 24th.2006 from Sams Club for around $1900.00 and the first week of December 2009 the green power light started flashing red six times and pausing have to remove power to tv and plug back in several times to get the tv to come back on. contacted Philips. no help. said contact a repair center it's out of warranty I have three Philips flat screens and this is the oldest one the other two are not far behind this one on failing. Never another philips product in my home Donna of Lyons, NY January 3, 2010 We also own the 50 inch plasma tv(50pf631d/37) bought at Best Buy for $1800 almost 3 years ago. We were told this was the best tv on the market, even the user manual states "you've selected one of the best-built, best-backed products available today" LOL We are having the same problem others have had turning the tv on, plugging in and unplugging 5,10,15,20 times. Called the helpline, that was a total waste of my time. The online support was a big joke, I had a chat with Rita, who was no help at all. Now I see I am not the only one with a soon to be 50 inch picture frame. trisha of arnoldsburg, WV January 3, 2010 I purchased a 60 inch projection hdtv with pixel plus and paid quite a bit of money for it and even purchased the extended warranty for the tv it was purchased at samms club almost 3 years ago well it will not power on it has a blinking code but no picture or sound at all so i called the customer support line and they asked for model number and serial number and when i gave it to them they would not give me any information at all and wouldnt even refer me to anyone that could help at all they only informed me that there was nothing they could or would do about it, i even tried to explain i would pay for repair and they informed me that they do not do that nor would they tell me any trouble shooting tips at all (sorry i am not very good at wording things) they pretty much told me i am stuck with a tv that does nothing and even though i purchased the extended warranty there is nothing they can do Jonathan of Golf Manor, OH January 1, 2010 Like a lot of people I bought a Phillips plasma tv. We all paid about the same price which is about $1500 or more. The complaints of people including me of having bout this product and having this product for two years no more than three and having out tv go out on us is riduculious. You contact Phillips and once they find out you do not have warranty the conversation is over. No help, no explanation to why the tv is out. The extended warranty is over priced and Phillips knows people won't purchase it but only offer a weak 1 year warranty which the tv is designed to fail in two to three years. I just think it's a shame that the repairs on a this tv are extremly high. Paying $1500 or more should get you a better tv one that lasts more than a couple of years. We as consumers should not allow big companies to profit off of hard working people without giving us something worth while. These products made by Phillips are inferior and they know it. It shows in all the homes and the way they handle it shows that they don't care because they alread made their profit. I paid $1500 dollars. A $1500 dollar car would last longer than these tv's Brandon of Fleming Island, FL January 1, 2010 I got the red flashing LEDs of death on my 50" Philips TV. I fixed it by buying a Sony. Never agin Philips. John of Fort Myers , FL January 1, 2010 Model # 50pf9631d/37. 3 years old almost to the day. Blinking red light. No help at all from Philips. Capacitors have been chnaged and now am told the next step could be 800 dollars. There are a ton of the same complaints on the net and on this site. Almost a 3,000 dollar tv and only lasted 3 years. Seems like I just rented a telveision for almost 1,000 dollars a year Molly of Huntersville, NC December 31, 2009 Solution for $17. We have a Philips 50" plasma, bought in april of '07. About a month ago it would not turn on properly- the green light would turn on and sound would come on but then it would turn off and a red light would blink fast then slow. We could unplug it until the red light stopped and then we could turn it on. My dad knows a lot about electronics and took off the back panel and determined some capacitors were blown in the middle (the instant on relay switch. They bulged slightly at the top. We were able to order them online for cheap- paid $15 to have them overnighted. so it was $17 all together. We ordered Part # ELXZ100ELL332MK25S by United Chemicon Inc. Careful- they do have an electric current even when TV is off so don't touch. have someone who knows about electronics replace them for you. Monica of Portland, OR December 31, 2009 Purchased a Philips Plasma tv and we too are experiencing the red flashing light and not turning on. We called Philips and they would not give us any information due to it being out of warranty. We purchased it in Dec 06 at Costco in Clackamas Oregon. It sounds like alot of people all over are having the same problem. This tv was approx 1700.00. Philips should be made to do something about this problem as it seems every tv they sold has the red flash of death. Linda of lawrenceburg, IN December 30, 2009 Same as others... Purchased a 50" plasma Philips tv three years ago Model# PF9631D/37 getting the six flashing lights and tv will no longer turn on. Did the unplug/plug in thing for months now it doesn't work at all now. We bought Philips because of their good rep. No longer a fact...Philips customer service/on line techs will not even speak to you once you tell them the warranty has expired. Like the three rings of death (x-box) I now consider this the six flashes of death! Could be $400 or more to fix... BUT "we" have to take our tv in to the repair shop...they do not do house calls here! OK HOW am I going to fit that 50" in my car! C'mon Philips...stand behind your product! Charles of Maplewood, NJ December 30, 2009 Bought a Philips Plasma TV & now it won't turn on and I need to know how to get Philips to fix it. I'm reading alot about a class action suit but that won't help my kids watch Sponge Bob now, what can I do? edwin of houston,, TX December 30, 2009 We purchased a 50" plasma tv model# 50PF963ID in Dec 2006 at circuit city with the extended warranty, about a month ago the infamous red light problem began. 6 slow red blinks, 3 rapid red blinks, unplug, get the green light, turn it on, hear the sound and then out again. the first few weeks we were able to turn the tv back on again, and now its definitely out for the count. don't waste your time calling philips, the don't help at all. we finally got in touch with contract administration out of atlanta georgia, and just our luck, our extended warranty expired 10 days ago. fortunately we found this site and we are going to try to switch out the capacitors. i spoke to a gentleman from the class action law suit number and he said to try to fix it if possible but to make sure and email their law firm and get our names on the list. info@doylelowther.com tv worked only 3 years almost to the date. seems like that is the standard we thought we got a great bargain for $1800, plus another $500 for an extended warranty. Boy do we feel like suckers now. Brandon of Smyrna, GA December 29, 2009 Purchased a Plasma TV in Dec 06. Today it takes several minutes to turn on. Red light comes on and you have to unplug the TV and then plug it back in. TV should last longer than 3 years. I have read hundreds of other posts from other Phillips owners. Kate of Henderson, KY December 28, 2009 In December 2006 I purchased a 50" Phillips plasma ambient TV for my husband from Best Buy. By March of 2007, the whole TV had died. No picture would come on. After dealing with customer service for two days, they finally referred me to a local, authorized repair company who then came out and got out television. After about a week, they called to tell me the TV was completely unable to be fixed. I called Phillips back and had to be transferred to a supervisor. I exlained that I needed the television replaced, to which they were not going to do (even though I was within my year warranty). After much arguing and threatening to have a friend of mine who works for our local FOX tv station do a report on it, they finally agreed to replace it. I received a new plasma to replace my old one in late March 2007. The television worked great until about November or December 2008. Then we started getting the infamous red blinking lights. At this point my warranty was out and Phillips was of no help. Every day I would have to unplug it and wait about 20 minutes to get the thing to finally come on. This lasted for about two months and then one day it worked just fine. It seemed to do fine through the spring, summer and most of fall. Last week it started with the six red blinking lights again. It now takes on average about 20 minutes to turn the darn thing on. Yesterday morning I tried to turn it on about sixty times (it will only turn on from the tv, not the remote) to no luck. Finally, last night, after trying for about 30 minutes, I got it to come on. We left it on all night so that my husband could actually watch it today on his day off. Just like the rest of you, I spent a lot of money on a tv from a company that has been around and had a good reputation. This is the worst experience and product that I have ever purchased. It is completely unacceptable that the company is not recalling these televisions and refunding our money. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't just have $3000 laying around the house to use on buying a new television to replace a 2.5 year old one. You buy a product because you expect the company to stand behind it....this company doesn't care. Nigel of Lubbock, TX December 28, 2009 I purchased a 42 inch plasma TV from philips in Jan 2007. About 6 to 9 months we began to experience problems with the TV. First the remote stopped working. My wife called and they told her to purchase another remote. We did and it did not solve the problem. The TV then began to turn on with no sound, then with sound and not picture. This went back and forth, we though it was realted to our cable company. As of today the TV will turn on with no picture or sound. We hear a series of clicks and thats as far as the TV goes. If we unplug it several times it eventually turns on. As of today this has not worked. I have read several posts and it appears that this has occured with many, many, many, other individuals. It is frustrating to think to that $1500+ was spent and its not working. Philips is of no help due to the warranty being out - but apparently they are aware of the problems thier plasma tvs are experiencing. Robert of Silver Springs, FL December 27, 2009 I purchased the 50PF9630A/37 50" Plasma TV and the unit died in three years. Very similar to what others describe here with red blinking error code and no picture. Philips will not even tell us the error codes to help us effect a repair! Shamia of maple heights, OH December 25, 2009 T.v. red light blinking, 50"big screen, about 4 months now Dan of Winnetka, CA December 25, 2009 Phillips 50PF9631D 50" Plasma TV fails to turn-on properly. Unit shuts down and flashes red LED several times. To reactive one must "ease" it in via first unplugging it and then doing a series of turning it off and on. WEB research reveals clearly a product defect exists in that the power board CBA is subject to determined capacitors failing or possibly due to design error or defect. Our set is less than 3 years old. Purchased at no small expense. The set should last several years. The Phillips company, if they value customers and their reputation, should immediately acknowledge the issue and at least make an attempt to rectify the problem. I would propose that Phillips offer replacement components or sub-assy at no charge to all. I personally would not object too much in receiving the parts at my home address and I would be responsible for their installation (do it myself or hire it done); perhaps Phillips should offer the repair at no cost via their service center. It is out of warranty, but the gesture would speak well of them. I selected their product based on their reputation at the time of purchase. If selected today, it would not be considered at all. This small action with offering a replacement part would at least restore some standing. If Phillips chooses not to respond proactively, I regret they've lost another customer for life. Drew of Sierra Vista, AZ December 24, 2009 We purchased two Phillips 19 inch LCD HDTV's in late October 2009. Within a week, one had burned out, or rather had turned itself off and would not turn itself on again. I opened the second box, which had been intended as a Christmas gift, to replace the first. Three days after it began functioning is suffered the same fate. I read through numerous other examples in this complaint form of nearly the same thing happening, only with different model numbers. It's clearly a manufacturing defect, and their customer service tactic has been to delay, and trying to wait for the product of fall out of warranty period. Jason of Destin, FL December 24, 2009 I had the same issue with the "red blinking light" as many other Philips TV owners. Ours is a plasma HDTV (model 42PF7320A/37B). I want to add my thanks to Jeff of Dexter, MI, who posted about this issue on August 29, 2009. I had a local TV repair shop replace my two blown capacitors with 25 volt 3300 uF (105 degree Celsius -- should NOT use lower 85 degree Celsius) after I removed the system board. They charged me about $50 including the capacitors. We're now watching our 42" plasma again without incident. Philips should resolve this. My father-in-law is an aerospace engineer, and said that this should never happen because these circuits can be tested via computer applications to prevent silly issues like this. If Philips doesn't make this right, they should indeed face the consequences. Kareem of Maple Grove , MN December 20, 2009 I purchased a phillips 42" plasma TV model number 42PF7320A/37 in 2006 from a local Circuit City. Six months ago the TV turned itself on and will not power back up. When you try to turn in on by plugging in the TV the set tries to turn on and the green power light comes un but then you hear some clicking and the set powers down and the green light turns red and flashes 7 times repeatedly. I have tried to contact the manufacturer to no avail as they will not speak to me because i am out of warranty. Paid 2,200 plus tax for the set from Circuit City. Appears thousands of others have similar issues with this model and many other phillips models. I would like to know what the status of the class action lawsuit. mike of port ludlow , WA December 19, 2009 Got a 50 inch plasma tv and it has no audio or video after 2 years. Black screen and a single green light.. nothing else. It's a 50MF231D/37 and is legendary in it's failure rate. It cost $1600.00 ! Ross of Phoenix, AZ December 18, 2009 Bought a 50inch magnavox tv on 12\26\2006 from Home depot. With a little foresite I also purchased an extra years waranty on this set. Good thing too, because it started acting up on about the 15th of october 2009. It takes at least 3 or 4 tries to turn this unit on. Some times it won't come on at all. The waranty expires DECEMBER 26\2009. I called the service center and reported the problem, They awarded the repair contract to a Sundland tv repair service. We have been getting the runaround ever since. Jan of Ellijay, GA December 16, 2009 Our Philips Model #42PF9631D/37 Plasma TV is less than 2 years old and has already quit working. Chris of Saginaw, MN December 15, 2009 I bought a philips 50" plama tv model #50pf9631d/37. After almost 3 years it quit working. The normally green "ON" light will flash 6 times fast then 3 times slowly. It continues that sequence. Now after doing some research I see many similar complaints. Philips will not help due to the 1 year waranty is expired. They recommend bringing ti to a repair shop. They will not help troubleshoot the issue. Will not tell me the trouble code it is flashing. Why not help? Maybe I can fix it. I would think multiple event would warrant a recall. Robin of Huntersville, NC December 15, 2009 We bought a philips 32" lcd t.v. either at the end of last year or very early this year.At first it would only work some of the time and if we work at it for ten minutes unplugging and replugging it it would start to work. It graudually got up to taking nearly two hours at a time to turn it back on. It was still under warranty when that started happening. We would have to leave it on for a week at a time just to make sure it would work, then it would shut off and not work except once in a blue moon. It has not worked now for about two months possibly longer. We bought it from denver nc walmart we were not offered an extended warranty. The t.v. we actually wanted they were out of and we were told they had to order them and it would take a while to get them. They then told us they had a philips 32 in the back if we wanted that. We told them we would take it only because we were driving around all day looking for the best deal. WE THOUGHT WE FOUND A GREAT DEAL! Obvisiously not! Now we find out their is a class acton suit against philips, from reading this post, and that there are tens of thousands of complaints saying the same thing we went through. We have contact philips repeatedly. They dont seem to want to help until you tell them you will take action against them, and even then they are still hard pressed to help you. The girl we talked to first told us she would forward our complaint to her manager and he would contact us in about a week that was a month ago. We keep calling back and they keep telling us to call back at a time more convinent for them, we're the customers not them, they should be making sure the service and time we are recieveing is convient for us not the other way around. A T.V. SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER THAN ALMOST A YEAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU PAY NEARLY 700 DOLLARS FOR IT. We don't have money to buy a new 700 t.v. every year no matter how many hours we work. It's really sad philips is still allowed to do this with all the complaints on this site as well as many others. THEY OBVIOSULY KNOW THEIR PRODUCTS ARE EFFECTIVE AND YET THEY CONTINUE TO SELL THEM, I'M PRETTY SURE THATS ILLEGAL, AND IF NOT IT SURE AS HELL SHOULD BE. Matt of bayville, NJ December 14, 2009 They did nothing. My 50 philips plasma tv blew the power supply board on its 2nd birthday. I replaced it. Now on its 3rd birthday it shuts itself off and gives an error of 6 blinking lights. A $2000 TV should last more than 2 years. In addition I purcahsed a DVD player to go with it and the phillips DVD player died after just a over a year. I just signed up for the class action suit. 1-877-573-0007 andy of gurnee, IL December 11, 2009 I purchased 50" plasma tv, Model 50PF7321D/37,on Dec.31 2007 from Sam`s Club in Gurnee, ILL. On Dec.04 2009 it stopped working. A repairman came for $35 and took my tv`s power supply board with him. Next day he called me and told me that he can try to fix the problem for $250, if not, I have to buy a recycled power supply board for $350. Ted of Fargo, ND December 8, 2009 We bought a 48 inch plasma from Philips over 2 years ago. A few months ago, it wouldn't turn on on the first attempt and the red light would blink. So we just unplugged/plugged it back in and it turned on. A few weeks later, it wouldn't turn on until after 5 or 6 power resets. After about 2 months, it was up to 8 or 10 minutes of power resetting. Then it became over 20 minutes. As of now, it's anywhere beyond 30 minutes, as we've given up past this point. Rebecca of Katy, TX December 7, 2009 I bought a 50" Plasma TV in August of 2008. In June of 2009, I called Philips to report the problems we were having: over 30 seconds to turn on (black screen - sometimes you could hear the voices but wouldn't see anything) and diagonal lines going across the whole screen from top to bottom along w/ a 3" wide black vertical line. Philips gave me a local repair company to call. Almost 6 months later and too many visits from the repair shop to count, my TV is still not fixed (each time it was the SSB). Philips called me about 2 weeks ago stating that they are no longer making Plasma TV's. They mad me an "offer" of 2 - 32" LCD TV's for my 50" Plasma or a partial refund since the 1 year warranty is up (even though this is the same problem that happened before the warranty expired). After further questioning, I found out that these replacement TV's are refurbished. Philips feels that the 2 - 32" TV's are comparable to my 1 - 50" TV. A screen difference of 18" is not comparable. They refuse to budge on giving me a larger, more comparable TV stating that their warehouse has nothing larger than a 32" TV. In regards to offering me a refurbished TV when I bought a new TV, they feel that since it is no longer "new" that refurbished is comparable. I will not buy another Philips product again. Both their product and customer service are below par. Crystal of Germantown, TN December 6, 2009 My husband and I purchased a Phillips Magnavox 50 in. plasma tv at Best Buy in Memphis, TN in November 2006. It worked great until October of 2009. We would turn it on and it would immediately shut off and then the light would blink red 3 times slowly and then 5 fast blinks. I would unplug it, then then turn it on again. It usually took 3 rounds of unplugging and turning it back on before it would power up. I googled the problem and found your website, I looked at the previous posts, and to make a very long story short, we bought the blown capacitors(ordered off the internet, no one in Memphis sold them) mentioned by Juan of Miami, and my husband spent 30 minutes taking the back off, then the power board and soldering the new capacitors in. Phillips put in substandard parts on the power board, they knew it and would not fix it. It was a pretty easy fix, the worst part was taking the tv off of the stand and getting it back on the stand (very heavy). If you have this problem, it is easy to fix and it saved us the cost of a new TV ($15 to fix it, including the shipping). Thanks for the info! CHANTEL of Brooklyn, NY December 5, 2009 I bought the TV a year ago. My TV blew out and its a 52'inch and it keep flashing a red light. And I called Phillips and they keep telling me they cant help me I paid all that money for it I think they should give me a better solution than that and I want something done about it and dont just hang up on me. Deanna of Bozeman, MT December 4, 2009 If you have bought a defective Philips Magnavox Flat Panel TV, please read. After being a lifetime Philips/Magnavox customer, I bought a plasma for $1500. As soon as the warranty expired , it died. I, too called the company and they would not even talk to me. I then turned to the internet to troubleshoot. WOW, I found out that 100's of 1000's of hard working people bought these tvs and all have the same problems. I have found out that Philips Magnavox has known about thier defective tvs since 2006, yet they are still selling them to this day. $1500 for a TV the company knew was defective. Please join the Class Action suit. Call 1-877-and join forces to stop this bad behavior by a trusted company. Anthony of Six Mile, SC December 1, 2009 Our Philips HD television went out less than 2 years after purchase. I had a difficult time getting a good phone number with a live person to talk with and when I finally did they weren't much help at all. We did not buy an extended warranty and after I told them that they were unwilling to help us in any way. Poor customer service. Do not buy a Philips tv! Donna of Hoover, AL November 30, 2009 Just putting my name on the complaint list purchased a 37" LCD Magnavox 3 years ago and it just went totally blank have been told the 2074 capacitor on the power supply is bad if you know how to fix yourself it takes about 1 hour at a cost of about 5 bucks. If you don't, repair shops charge up to 125.00 just to look at it. I have also seen where people get them repaired and 6 months to a year later the same thing happens. The capacitor should have been 35v apparently this one is only 25v and it overheats causing the tv to permanently shut off. Varun of Culver City, CA November 29, 2009 I bought a Philips 42' plasma HD TV 3 years ago from a Bose shop in Century city. I bought my Bose system and the sales person highly recommended the Philips TV for which I paid $3k including taxes. A year ago the bottom half would turn black, and I would have to turn the tv off and that would resolve it. I was already out of warranty by then. Now, less than 3 years after I paid $3K, I am experiencing what most people who have bought this lousy Philips product have - the red lines! The same usual crap from their customer service - online and on the phone (which btw took forever to get a hold of). Call your local TV repair. I did. Estimated budget to fix this piece of crap - $800. And, I am pissed off at Bose too for endorsing Philips. $3K for a worthless piece of junk. amanda of covington , GA November 29, 2009 my husband and I purchased a 42" phillips plasma tv from Brandsmart in 2007 for $1,700. In Aug of 2008 the TV started blinking a red light appx 7 times. Warranty was expired and Phillips would not give any info because no warranty. NEVER BUY ANY PHILLIPS PRODUCTS EVER unless you like giving away your money! Celeste of Sarasota, FL November 29, 2009 I purchased the 42PF9631D 9-06 and had the same issue as other posts with the red blinking light. Fortunately "so far" with unplugging the unit I have been able to keep the TV working. Immediately after purchase we experienced problems with sound and losing picture, which we also attributed to the cable company. Even though TV is working it still loses sound picture for several seconds. Oftentime we have to change channel to resume sound on TV. I am interested in finding resolution to this issue since Philips support is non-existant. Simon of San Jose, CA November 27, 2009 I bought a 50" Phillips 50FP7220a Plazma TV from Costco in early 2007. At the time this was an expensive TV at $2700 which was nearly $3k with the tax. During the first year, it failed and i had it repaired under warranty. A few months after the warranty expired.... the TV expired again. I called Philps cistomer service and they were completely useless. However this time I was lucky that Costco offers an extra year of protection and after a week at the shop, it was returened repaired again. I asked the repairman why it failed so quickly especially since the TV was supposed to be rated for 60,000 hours nd we were les than a tiny fraction of that. He said Phillips lies and he seems many failures in the first year and many failures thereafter. Now it is nearly 4 years ago and it died again , the infamous 7 rd light blinks that so many have experienced. Bottom line is that Phillips is a lousy company with lousy service to boot. Maybe they can get away with it in Europe , but they wont get away with it in North America. I for one will certainly never buy another Phillips product and I will tell the story to anyone. They need to be driven out of this market as soon as possible David of San Antonio, TX November 27, 2009 I purchased a 42inch phillips plasma T.V. It is 13months old. Now it will not turn on. It blinks red lights six times. I spoke with the sales person at the place I purchased it, no luck. They told me to call phillips. I called phillips. It is not under warranty anymore. Jag of Bakersfield, CA November 26, 2009 Plasma TV withRed blinking light after two years now won't turn on. It turns out it is fried. Anita of Lower Cove, NL November 26, 2009 I bought a 42" Plasma TV from Philips (42PFP5332D/37) about 2 years ago, now it wont turn on and all I see is a red flashing light at the bottom of the tv. Their toll free number wont even connect you with anyone if you say you purchased it more than a year ago. You wouldn't think answering a phone would need a warrenty would you? This is the worst tech support I have ever seen and obviously a defective product from all of the other postings I have read. I am now out over $1300, with little hope of fixing the problem. Erica of Deer Park, WA November 24, 2009 I purchased a Phillips 50" plasma TV on Jan.15th 2008. I paid $1786.47 for it. I also purchased a stereo system with it for $286.00. The stereo system quit working within 1mo of purchase and I was able to exchange it in at the Walmart store in N. Spokane, WA. About 8 months ago the stereo system quit working again the warrentee was up, so I am not able to have that replaced. 1/21/09 my plasma TV shut off and will not turn back on. It has been babied and I have never had any problems with it until now. Phillips offered to send the Geek Squad out to diagnose the repair this Friday. I will soon see the financial damage. Stereo system $286.00 Plasma TV $1787.00 Geek Squad so far...$150.00 I don't know if it can be fixed yet or how much they will charge me. Corey of Dover, OH November 24, 2009 I bought a 37" flat screen t.v. and when I got it out of the box it had a small chip in the screen. I thought it was pixels missing and by the time the repair guy came it was about 2 weeks, and he said that it was a chip and that they can't replace b/c it has been more than 10 days. Now 5 days after my 2 year warranty expired I go to turn my tv on and all I get is a black screen and a red blinking light. I'm in on a class action law suite. Let's get this thing started. Mary of Chatham, IL November 24, 2009 We also purchased a Philips 42in plasma tv about 2 years ago. The TV now has about a 4 inch white and black vertical line running down the left side of the screen. Philips cannot help because it is out of warranty. The anticpated repair bill is in excess of $700.00. What a piece of junk! We will not get is repaired...better to be out $2000 than $2700! Deanna of Bozeman, MT November 22, 2009 I also was ripped off by phlips magnovox. I purchased a 52in plasma one year ago for $1497.00. Now It won't even turn on. I contacted the "customer service" and was told because the warranty expired they weren't allowed to tel me anything about the tv. We saved for a year to buy a tv and now have no means to replace it nor do we have the $400-$600 to fix it. I can't believe they are getting away with this. Pao of Akron, OH November 22, 2009 I bought a flat 62" big screen tv model# 60PL9200D/37 from Samsclub last couple year ago and after the first year my tv have some blinking and it went death. I did tried to call Philips customer and they told me that I need some maintain done there's nothing they can do because they warranty is out. I think i just throw $1700.00 in to trash. I do need some justice for for this. please do something to stop these people making junk. Raul of Homestead, FL November 21, 2009 I have a Phillips Flat screen TV in which I've been having an issue with TV turning on. There is a red-light flashing, in which it has happened before several times in the past and by me unplugging the TV for several minutes it would resume working. Now the red light is flashing but TV does not turn on at all. I've tried to contact Phillips however the automated service apperently will not help because it has been over a year of having the TV. It states there is no live person to help with my product. TV does not work, no assistance from Phillips. clem of fort payne, AL November 20, 2009 called customer service for help in reprograming 3 year old tv. was told that since there is only 1 year warranty on tvs that they would not help me. I feel that they should be proud that the tv lasted past one year. this is an insult and i will not buy another phillips magnavox tv. i am in the market for a larger screened tv but it will not be magnavox Kevin of Carrollton, TX November 19, 2009 I've had my Philip 42" plasma for 2 years 4 months then got the 7 binking led's. Called tech support to find out what the error code meant got the warranty questions and no tech support availiable. Did a googled to find the 7 blinking error code and found I purchased a lemon and wanted to add my name to the list so if some action is taken for the unfortunate one's that got no resolution or was not as lucky as me. Wanted to thank the people with the capasitor info. I have basic electronic skills and that fix my problem. Denise of Marysville, CA November 19, 2009 I purchased a 50" Magnavox Plasma TV (Model 50MF231/D) 3 years ago at top dollar $2300.00. I thought I was getting one of the best TV's ever. I have been noticing problems off and on for a few months now. It would lose the picture, for no apparent reason, but that was nothing compared to what I am going through now. It takes me over 1 hour to start my TV up. I have to plug and unplug for 1 hour every day to get it to work. RIDICULOUS!!! I called a mobile technician and he said the part I need is a power board supply based on the red light flashing 4 times quickly non-stop until I unplug it. So to top things off, yep, you guessed it, the part is NOT available!!! Now, my tv is turning on in the middle of the night, after I have turned it off, and then starts flashing red. I am concerned of fire so now as a precaution I unplug it before I go to bed. I am going to continue to try to get a hold of somebody to see if I can get any help. I'm sure that I am wasting my time but it is worth a shot. MAYBE!!!! stephanie of McMinnville, OR November 18, 2009 Same problem as most are having with this model. 42pf9431D/37E 42" Plasma. Sound goes out since brand new. Will come back on after turning TV off then on again. Screen would go black or very bright multi-colored on half for about a week or two periodically after having it 2 years. Then just black altogether. After turning it off then back on as suggested in manual, it stayed off/black and has 7 blinking red lights. When I contacted customer support via e-mail, it was recommended I send a letter to corporate. Our second e-mail has yet to be answered. When I called the customer service/support number I was not allowed to speak to anyone since I didn't have an extended warranty. When I instant chatted with Rita, she said I had an internal component failure and to contact a TV repair shop. No help, no suggestions, then she logged off. I mentioned all of the other people's complaints, that it should be a defect, or recall... didn't matter. Please add me to any class action law suit there hopefully will be. A costly amount paid for a TV that didn't last. About $2000. Not to mention the cost it will require to repair. Becky of Durham, NC November 18, 2009 Purchased a 42in. Plasma TV from SAM's Club in 2006. Almost immediately the picture started going out but we thought it was our cable because it only happened occasionally. Well now we only have one half of a screen the bottom half is black. Paid a lot of money for this t.v. and feel it should have lasted longer than 2.5 years. Count me in on any law suit against Philips. It appears from all the complaints here that they should be liable for such a defective product. They should not get by with this. Cheryl of Bergen, NY November 18, 2009 On February 22, 2007, we purchased a 50" Magnavox DLP HDTV (model # 50ML8105D/17). We have other Phillips products in our home and know that Phillip purchased Magnavox. Magnavox is supposed to be a "good" name brand. Man were we fooled. Around May of 2007, the television started shutting off. The red light of death went on. We turned off the TV and let it cool down. This process became a regular thing. Whenever the inside temperature reached 75 degrees the tv would turn. We called the customer service several times and we were told it was "operating correctly, buy shutting down to cool off", that it was too close to a wall or that it probably has some dirt inside. So we started using having an external fan blowing in front of the television to keep it cool. This is positioned by the side of the light. During our cold winter months in NY, the television operated fine. In February of this year we had to purchase a new lamp. We got varying prices including installation charges. We installed it ourselves at a cost of $149.97. My husband called and of course by now it's "out of warranty". He tried to climb the chain at Maganavox, but they said to send a letter. I have a $1,000 piece of junk basically in my living room. With the new lamp, the television will not operate with inside temperatures of 71 degrees or higher. so now I need a permananet external fan blowing on it year round. What a rip off their customer service is. I will NEVER buy Phillips or Magnavox again. Andries of douglasville, GA November 18, 2009 I live in Atlanta. At the top end of the 285 bypass there is a high rise with the PHILIPS logo in massive highlighted lettering on the topside of the building. The light in one of these letters has been out for more than a year. That about sums it all up for this electronics company. My 37pfl5322d37 Philips tv power went out last night, would not come back on. The product is only a year and a half old,and out of warranty. It looks like I have no hope of getting it fixed. Phil of Portland, OR November 14, 2009 Same problem as many others. TV stopped turning on after less than two years. Im out $800 and am told they cant help me because its out of warranty. Very disappointed, I will not buy their products. L of Little Rock, AR November 14, 2009 Purchased Magnavok 42MF231D/37 42" Plasma on 3/2007 and the screen went black today just like the rest of the complaints. You can hear the sound but no PICTURE. Paid 1200.00 for a TV that last only two years. We must file a FTC complaint and should file a class action lawsuit. I immediately contacted consumer services for Phillips and got the same results as everyone else. I was told to turn off TV and turn it back on. That did not help. I was told to take it in for service at my expense. Include my complaint in all legal actions. Anthony of Anchorage, AK November 13, 2009 I had purchased a 51 inch Philips projection tv (51PP9200D/37) In July of 2006. Like the other unfortunate consumers who had purchased a Philips Television I now have a $1400.00 pile of junk sitting in my living room that cant be fixed because Philips cant admit that they have parts that are a major fire danger and should have been recalled. Instead they discontinue the part so the consumer is stuck with a TV that you cant fix after only 3 yrs.. The reason I am saying all this is because I was leaving to work 2 nights ago and my tv started sounding like a stun gun going off and all i could see was sparks coming from the back of the tv the only way to stop it was to unplug it. I just thank god this happened while I was still in the house other wise I would be coming home to a burnt down house. After doing some research I had found that the High Voltage Transformer had gone bad and was arcing out. I have tried to find this part and had learned that it was discontinued by Philips it is understandable do too the fire hazard and theme avoiding a recall.Instead of fixing the problem they pretty much have told the many other consumers of this same brand television that have had the same problem "too Bad" Jeff of Renton, WA November 12, 2009 I purchased a Philips 42" plasma tv (42pf9630a/37) several years ago. From day 1 I had problems with the unit. While still under waranty, there was a problem with the sound-there was a rattle in one of the speakers. The first repairman recommended by Philips took two shots at fixing it but failed. A second company made it better but it has never been 100%. As time went by, it developed a problem with the sound completely dropping out. Turning the unit off and then back on again would take care of the issue but it was annoying nonetheless. Now we are faced with the blinking LED of death. We turned the unit on the other day, the picture came on then the unit turned itself off and gave us the error / warning of the red LED blinking 7 times. from what I have read, there are possible fixes-none of which Philips will assist in as it is past its waranty period. It sounds like the fix is going to cost more than a new tv would cost. I'm currently watching my 25 year old Sony that still works GREAT. Lets see, Sony/25+ years and still going strong vs. Philips/3 years and dead. Narriman of Cleveland, OH November 11, 2009 Philips 50" plasma TV 50PF7321D/37, same problem red death light. past the one year warranty by few months. please file a complaint with the FTC federal trade commission at their web site www.ftc.gov against Philips. Too many people had the same problem to ignore. Nasser of Brunswick, OH November 11, 2009 Philips 50" plasma TV 50PF7321D/37, same problem red flashing light. The problem started prior to the expiration of the manufacture warranty, after calling Philips I was told to unplug and replug the TV, and it will work. A few months latter nothing will happen and the TV will not work any more needless to say the it's was past the one year warranty by a month. Let's each one of us file a complaint with the FTC federal trade commission at their web site www.ftc.gov against Philips and let our government take care of this. Too many people had the same problem to ignore. dave of Oroville, CA November 9, 2009 bought a magnavox 42 inch tv for roughly 1200.00 that lasted just over 2 years Christy of San Luis Obispo, CA November 7, 2009 I have the same 42" Plasma flat screen t.v. that died with the blinking lights. Forget trying to get them to do anything about..terminal problem...tv repairman wont even touch it. He says go buy another tv and take this one to the dump! Out $2500 for a tv that lasted only 2 years at best. Ben of Queensburry, NY November 6, 2009 I have a 50" Philips Plasma that blinks red 7 times and no picture. Called Philips and they said "Call a TV repair shop". Went online to get help and nothing is posted on their website. Their tech support said that it means some internal component is failing. It looks like many people are experiencing the same issue. Does this qualify for a case that should have been recalled? Is there such thing as consumer protection? Gayle of Aspen, CO November 6, 2009 Purchased a 19" LCD TV a few years ago and it keeps turning off. I can't get a picture and it will cost more to repair than it originally cost. I realize MANY other consumers have had the same thing happen to their LCD tvs. graham of matawan, NJ November 5, 2009 Blinking red light 50PF9630A/37 same as thousands of others. Intermitent green/blank screen for the last year and then red light blinking 7 times and no picture only sound. Great if you want to go back to the era of radio. NEVER buy Philips Brian of Santee, CA November 4, 2009 my Phillips 50" plasma had the same blinking red light. i think it's the starter or something. when the light blinks, i unplug it and replug in. when i hear the second click inside the tv, i wait about ten seconds and unplug it. i do that about 6-7 times and at first i hear sound then after a couple more times i see the picture. it's a pain to turn my tv on, but until i can find an answer on how to get it fixed, and for cheap, because the tv was not, this is what i have to do. i'm not buying phillips next time. it takes me about ten minutes to turn my tv on. Gary of Westminster, MD November 3, 2009 Purchased a 47" LCD Philips Tv on 8/29/09 and it developed a single white line, from the top to the bottom. Called customer service and they were going to send me a reburished one from the warehouse. Nothing came and I called back, was advised no 47" tv's were left in the warehouse, but they would buy my tv back. I said this was unacceptable, since I bought the tv on sale and had to open a charge account, to get the sale price, and I couldn't buy another tv with there buy back money. Lady said buy back was my only option. I'm stuck with a defective tv. Jeff of Pittsburgh, PA November 2, 2009 Same as everyone else, paid good money for my 42" class, shortly out of warranty, half screen, then red light flashes, now nothing, repair shop says $1,000 to fix it. Count me in on any action. out of $2500 with very few hours of viewing Niki of Lauderhill, FL November 2, 2009 I am so devastated to see all these posts I had no idea. I bought my husband a Philips 42 Plasma at Brandsmart 3 years ago for $2800. I thought it was my Direct TV HD box that was acting up and had that replaced. Well of course that didnt help and this started about 1 year ago occasional black screen no picture or audio and now it happens daily three, four, five times in the few hours we watch tv. Oh yeah and a popping sound that makes everyone jump, we have heard that a few times too. How can Philips get away with this. Rodney of Knightdale, NC October 27, 2009 I have not had this TV for less than 3 yrs. I paid a lot of money for this PLasma made by Philips. The model is 42pf7321d/37. I am getting three red lights blinking on the front of the TV and getting no picture. Philips is not help in this situation at all. I have older TV that are functioning fine. I have checked online and it seems this product is a bad product made by Philips. I should not have to pay 500.00 to get the TV fixed when it is not even 3 yrs old. I need to know is there a lawsuit against them for having some many bad TV's. John of Davis, CA October 22, 2009 I bought a philips lcd tv 5000 series in Germany when I was stationed there. I got a great deal on it so I bought it new. The store clerk at media markt (like the german bestbuy) said it would work fine in the states. I get home and it wont get my comcast cable, it dosnt see the signal. I call philips and one guy just dosnt care, he tells me to wikipedia the problem. I call again and the other guy is sorta helpful. he tells me that im out of luck and hes sorry. I dont know what to do. i cant exactly go back to germany and return my television. Joseph of West Lawn, PA October 22, 2009 I purchased a 50" Phillips plasma(model number 50PFP5332D/37) tv a little over a year ago and now I have no video. No audio issues but no video. When I looked at getting it fixed, it would cost over $300 to have a "licensed" Phillips dealer fix it. The warranty went out a few months before the tv did and I am still paying on the tv! When I called Phillips customer service, when I finally got to speak with someone, they were of no help. All they did was "direct" me to a licensed repair shop. They couldn't help me due to the expired warranty. I always thought that Phillips made good electronics, but now that I see all of these complaints about customer service and their products I will be taking my business elsewhere but I would like to know if I can sue them so if anyone, like an ATTORNEY, is reading this please contact me. karrie of st petersburg, FL October 20, 2009 6 blinks no power, no help from philips or bestbuy. contact me about that lawsuit. has anyone else tried to fix it themselves/ Dennis of new port richey, FL October 16, 2009 DO NOT BUY PHILIPS! If i can get just one person to change their mind about a philiips purchase, hopefully i have done my job. I cant believe how many complaints I see regarding the same problem I have. I ahve a 50 in plasma 50pfp5332d/37 which from nearly day one woudl click when ever it felt like it. It would shut off in the middle of watchign it as well. Just at raondom times. It was such a pain to hang on the wall and everything i jsut edidnt want to be bothered with calling philips. We guess what, its been about 2 years and the damn thing jsut quite on me. Im getting those flashign red lights like thousands of you are claiming to have experienced as well. Ihave searched hi and lo throughout the interent to find out the problem and cant seem to really get anywhere. I have a panasonic 42 inch for 4 years now that is absolutely perfect, not a single problem ever. I am so mad i could spit about this 50 inch. THat was 2 grand i could have used for something much more worth the money, but instead i trusted in the philips brand and have already told everyone facebook how bad philips is. I wont rest until everyone i know and everyone i talk to knows how bad philips is. JONI of WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, OH October 16, 2009 Our Phillips plasma 52" tv quit working after 15 months. We called Phillips, we were told that our warranty expired 3 months ago and they couldn't talk to us any longer and we needed to contact a TV repair person. We went online and got the same response from an online chat. The FAQ's online was of no help either. Mazie of Sandy Hook, VA October 14, 2009 I purchased my set in 2006 - The tv started losing sound out within the first couple of months.. Made a service call to sears - tec came out and found nothing wrong.. TV continued to lose sound - did not matter if I was watching tv or using the DVD player. Called again when the tv starting to black completely out - tec came out again and said he could not find anything wrong.. since the issue did not happen all the time there was nothing he could do - I was told the next time it happens I could just unplugged the tv and plug it back in again to reset it.. So here it a couple of weeks before my service agreement is up the tv goes out again and unplugging it did not fix it.. So I called sears again but the did not have a tec to that would be able to come out before my service agreement ended - but assured me that I would be covered.. sure enough the tec came out and said I need a board replaced and he could order it but it's going to cost me because my tv was no longer covered.. I fought that battle with Sears and lost - they then told me to call Philip and they told me it was not covered but they can give me a name of a certified repair center in my area. Well the tv did come back on for a little while but the last couple of months - the top portion of the tv is snowed. - I am printing out all the complaints and bringing them to sears/walmart/sams and every place they sell philip brand and hand them out... I paid 1600.00 dollars for this unit and was only able to really enjoy it for about a year.. This is so crazy.. I will leave instruction after I leave this world for not any of my children, children every purchase a philip anything or for that matter anything from Sears... Joseph of Joliet, IL October 14, 2009 I retired on Nov.1, 2008. I received as a retirement gift, a Philips LCD big screen 42" TV. I sent the registration for the Warranty in plenty of time. Model#42PFL3403D/27. I received ownership on 10/15/08.(one year warranty). The company that shipped this to me was Power Merchandising,Philadelphia, Pa. It did not show a dollar amount because I did not purchase this TV but received it as a gift. Philips claim this invoice is invalid because there is no dollar amount. On 7/14/2008, I called Philips that a vertical line was showing on the screen. They gave me a local company to call for the repair. This was not forthcoming and another company was given to me to call. Same result. The warranty is for a year. I argued with them over the next few months with no result. They were stalling till the warranty ran out.Philips claim the warranty ran out on 9/26/2009. That is a lie because I have a Philips correspondence to extend my warranty before its to late, that reads; my warranty runs out on 10/15/09. This proves I received ownership on 10/15/08. Since I called back in July, 3 months before the warranty was due to run out, Philips claim is a lie. The original order for this TV went through Diamond H:Personal Recognition co, FT. Worth, TX, order date 10/9/08.I talked to a Sondra who has tried to help but to no avail. Philips has deliberately dragged this out so they can claim by a lie, the warranty has run out. Dennis of Lodi, CA October 12, 2009 I also have a Philips 42" plasma with the blinking red light and no power. Philips was absolutely no help! Their answer was call a local tv repair person. I have an appointment with The Geek Squad tommorow and will show them some of the info I have found on the internet about this common problem Don of Oak Ridge, NC October 9, 2009 I Purchased a philips 42PF7320A/37 on 11-25-2005 at Circuit City.Last month horizonal lines displayed on the screen.I called Philips and went online and they were no help at all. I have bought philips since 1970,and had good service but this is my last. When i carried it to the shop they said Philips would not respond. This is a real problem. It repeats itself over and over on the complant site. I would like it if someone started a class action. Terry of Suwanee, GA October 4, 2009 I just want to add to the growing list who have the "TV won't turn on - blinking red light problem" My tv is not in warranty (missed by 50 days). They could at least be helpful when you call. They wont even talk about this obviously wide spread defect. And it IS a defect when a $2000 product only last 3 years. Never again Philips Rob of Windermere, FL October 3, 2009 After 2 years of ownership and multiple error codes and power down to reset the error codes the 42in Plasma TV finally died. Thanks for nothing PHILIPS! Ricky of Fontana, CA October 3, 2009 In September 2007, I bought Philips 50 inch plasma from Costco and it started acting with TV turning on/off for 3 weeks then suddenly it shut down with TV Blinking 7 Red times! I thought it overheated protection. I waited for couple hours but it does not turn back on. So I found troubleshooting on Philips.com to unplug and turn on again. It does not work. Now, I called tech support and customer services. They did not help but told me to call local repairman. Philips knows about Plasma TV problems but Philips is careless about consumers by pushing the junky product for profit. Philips Plasma TV problems are nationwide, Stop taking advantages on consumers. Fix or recall all the problems excepted Philips does not know how to fix the product because they bought the module parts from Samsung. Philips still needs to take responsible of the products. Add me in for a class action suit against Philips TV. nancy of red bluff, CA October 3, 2009 im back again teck came out this morning and took away the tv..he says hes really confused! i said so are all the philips owners..walmart here was advertising philips "on sale" so i spent half the day at walmart in the electronics..any one looking at philips got a copy of the 410 complaints..how do you like that philips! angry customer!!! Juno of Tustin, CA October 2, 2009 I purchased the plasma TV model 42PF9431D/37 in 2006 and starting having the "blinking red light" problem about two weeks ago. Unplugged it, plugged it back in, no problem for a week. Tried the same today but to no avail. Called Philips and as expected they could not offer any help b/c out of warranty. Couldn't even acknowledge when asked if this was a common problem or easily troubleshot. I decided to do my own research and am now shocked at how my very first search query "blinking red light-model no." opened a huge floodgate of information pertaining to this commonly shared problem. I will not waste an opportunity to share the business philosophy of Philips with any willing to listen. Andres of Minneapolis, MN October 2, 2009 I have a 1.5 y/o philips TV 37pfl5322d, yesterday I unplugged it and after plugging it back it does not want to start. According to many postings in the internet is a common thing in the philips TV. I contacted philips and since I am oput of waranty they say I should go to a reapir shop. I cannot use my TV: worth at least 400 $ Peter of Toronto, ON October 1, 2009 Philip 47PFL7403D/F7 LCD TV broke down after only 2 months - 1 long 2 short red blinks. Philips Canada promptly referred me to a repair shop who took it in for repair. After 3 months and various parts replaced they gave up but to my surprise Philips then offered me a full cash refund of actually more than I had paid. Especially pleasing considering I purchased it from Dell. Kevin of Liverpool, NY October 1, 2009 Since we bought our 52 inch Phillips plasma it used to turn on and off intermittently. I tried the down loadable update from Phillips technical sight and had to leave a message for a rep to call me back, after several attempts and who knows how many hours on the phone and trying to install the update i had given up. A couple months went by and the tv seemed to be better. Then it would randomly loose the sound but picture was fine. I had to unplug the tv and plug it back in to get sound back. This went on for a couple months sometimes it would happen 3 times a day or once a day. Then this problem seemed to get better after time. Now for the past week I would turn on the tv and there is sound and no picture for about one to two minutes then the picture would come on and it was fine. Now the tv will not turn on at all.... 4 blinking red lights. I will try the repair of replacing the capacitor and pray for the best. Looking at all the other complaints and failed attempts to get help from phillips for me to call is just a waste of time. juan of miami, FL September 30, 2009 Philips 50 inch plasma TV BLINKING RED LITES! Today I replaced the mentioned capacitors on the 9/22 post, just make sure they are rated at 105C (hi temp). The TV now turns on and works perfectly. But, nevertheless I will NEVER AGAIN buy a product from Philips, and will take the time to visit the Electronics Dept. wherever they are being sold if I happen to be there, (Walmart) and let any prospective customer know what he's getting into. So, now you know. Don't let any "genius" TV repairman rip you off selling you a whole new board or this or that, I solved it with an investment under $10 dollars for the two capacitors with shipment included. Hope this might be of help. Blatant insult and dishonest behavior from Philips that still continues selling an obviously defective product, for which they will take no responsibility, moral or monetary. Ken of Sarasota, FL September 28, 2009 In July of 2007, we purchased a Philips 19" LCD TV model 19FPL5622D/37B. It lasted about 9 months before acting up with intermittent sound and picture. I had contacted CSR and since it was still under warranty, they sent me a replacement (refurbished) unit. Well, it is now 9 months with the replacement unit and IT is acting up in exactly the same manner. It started as a "popping" in the audio and the audio would eventually quit entirely. After turning the set off & on a few times it would settlt down and behave. It has now progressed to the unit randomly resetting itself (like an auto-restart) so often that it becomes unwatchable. Being an electronics guy, I removed the rear cover and examined the power supply board as suggested on here and all of the electrolytic caps look fine. I was expecting to see some of them bulging or burst. If both of these units failed in exactly the same way at exactly the same point in their lifespan, this has to be a design or component flaw from Philips yet they will not acknowledge it. Count me in on any class action suits that may follow. nancy of red bluff, CA September 27, 2009 well the teck called he said sounds like a big problem and now they have to take the tv to the shop they dont understand the problem..hm maybe philips is sending bad parts now!!wouldnt surprise me....and your all right customer service is a joke!! nancy of red bluff, CA September 25, 2009 another update on my philips 51 inch rear projection tv model number 51mp6100d/37. "piece of junk". sevice man did come out after first part went out within a month, when he got here i was told it had to have another part for another 150.00. it was ordered. teck came out on 9/4/09 to put in another part. well this morning not even a month later doing the same thing. "wont shut off" .this being my third complaint in just a few months. with all the updates youd think philips tv;s would be off the market! Jon of Pensacola, FL September 25, 2009 We bought a Philips 50" plasma in 12/05 for $5k and a couple of months ago we started getting the "blinking red light / no picture" problem that is well documented here and elsewhere. I called Philips support and was told by the rep, quite bluntly, that since we were out of warranty she could no longer stay on the call with me. I asked her if she could at least give me the name of an authorized repair shop and she said "no, I can only refer you to support.philips.com." and hung up. So $5000 for a television that worked intermittently for 3.5 years. MICHAEL of WORCESTER, MA September 25, 2009 Philips Plasma TV problems. Shuts off between commercials. Philips Corp. could care less. Literally hundreds of screwed customers...may even be in the thousands nation wide. Does anybodyknow how to start a class action suit against Philips TV? Karen of Sacramento, CA September 24, 2009 Purchased TV in Jan. 2009, broke within 3 months. PH replaced it with another broken TV. I returned the second one and was told to expect my check in 4 - 6 weeks. I called after 4 weeks for the status and was told to add another two weeks or more to the 4 -6 weeks. I spoke with CSR named Tyler that told me there is nothing they are going to do about it and basically he understood that Philips was ripping off customers and we had no recourse. I asked for a new reference # and was told one of the letters was Z as in Zulu. Steven of Fulton, NY September 23, 2009 I purchased a new Philips Plasma TV in January 2009 from Sams Club. Within six months the television no longer worked. I called Philips company to get my TV repaired and this is when the trouble began and I soon realized the company had no good intention on making a quality repair or a fair trade available. It started when Sams Club faxed them the receipt from the original purchase. One week after the fax confirmation they claimed they did not receive it. The second fax they claimed the receipt was not specific enough. They were clearly stalling. Two weeks later on the third fax they finally accepted there was a warranty involved and would send a repair person to fix it. The repair man came out one week later and said the TV needed all the internal components replaced. He further stated the only part he would not be replacing was the actual screen since it was in excellent condition (it should be since it was only 6 months old). He ordered the parts, left the heavy TV dangling by two screws (extreme hazard with a toddler being around it), and told me he would be back in a week. Four days later I received a call from a Philips rep named Peter who said the parts were not going to be available for 22 days and the time frame was unacceptable so he was replacing the broken model with a new LCD. Two days after his first message, he called back and said he accidentally looked at the calendar wrong and the parts would be in on time. He further stated the LCD was no longer being offered. I felt very upset at this point since I was offered a replacement only to have the rep tell me he was mistaken and an LCD would not be given in exchange. Now another week passed and we still had no TV or a resolution. The same man came out once again with the parts and tried fixing the Plasma. He said the front panel was broke and the TV was unrepairable. He further replied that panels should last for 18 years and they usually are the last part in a television to go. Philips then agreed to send a NEW LCD comparable to the size of our broken Plasma. This sounded like great news since now we were going on at least 30 days of not having a TV. He said it would be a 52 or 55" LCD and we would have it in under 10 days. Then he said to call back on Monday (it was Thursday) to set up a delivery schedule. I called back today to only be told that I would not be receiving a new 52 or 55" LCD, but I was going to be given a REFURBISHED 47" instead. I was crushed once again since I wanted something FAIR for the initial purchase of the 50" Plasma I bought back in January! I was also informed the delivery of the crap replacement would be at least 10 more days. I am so CRUSHED over this matter and the stress of having a major purchase being replaced with a refurbished model less in size is unbelievable. This company seems to have a large erroneous reputation of treating consumers unfairly. Replacing their faulty products with other malfunctioning items to wear out the warranty. The consumer is left with a huge purchase and nothing after a years time to show for it. Please look at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/home_electronics/philips.html . I am one of hundreds, possibly thousands of individuals who have had the same problem. Please help me get a fair resolution because without some intervention Philips will keep raking in consumer dollars, and cheating hard working families who buy their products. Elbert of Birmingham, AL September 22, 2009 I have the infmaous 4 red blinking lights and the 50" Philips Plasma TV won't turn on. It is well documented that this is very, very common but hey won't support it or even give advice on how to get it repaired. I have a television that is worthless due to a defect that the company is well aware of but won't even offer advice as to how to get it repaired. I was told to "look in the yellow pages"... Now I am going to have to shell out $400+++ dollarsto fix an issue that should be addressed by Philips! Pam of Artesia, NM September 22, 2009 I am writing this complaint for my parents. They have a Phillips LCD tv and they lost the picture and still had sound but, now they've lost that too. They purchased the tv in July 2008 and did't purchase the extended warranty. They called Phillips just trying to find a name of someone to repair the tv because they were unable to find anyone. Phillips told them they knew what the problem was but since it was out of warranty they couldn't help them. They asked could they please just give them some information on who could repair the tv and they said no. My parents said so you don't stand behind your product and they said they do. So, my parents asked again for someone that could repair the tv and they refused. Andre of San Antonio, TX September 22, 2009 Bought a Philips 42PFL7422D/37 summer '07, went out August '09. Blue power button comes on, then turns off. Nothing else. Sounds like I'm in the club. Juan of Miami, FL September 22, 2009 I am a recurring blogger "seeing red" with the infamous Philips blinking red light. A few days ago, I read Jeff's of Dexter Mi. blog (about 20-25 blogs from the top), and opened the back of my 50 inch Philips TV and sure enough there were 2 capacitors in the lower center area of the board that will be facing you as soon as you remove the back panel. These are 3300 microfarad electrolytic capacitors rated at 10 volts. They both had the top surface bulging, meaning they are "fried". Today, as suggested by Jeff, ordered new replacements rated @ 25volts, at a cost of $1.84 cents each.As soon as I receive them Wednesday I intend to install them. I am sure that will take care of the problem, because the guy at the electronics shop told me those were used in TV's power supply board. Will let you know before the week is over how it went. Janyn of Cliffside Park, NJ September 21, 2009 Like everyone else, I received the "Red Light" special. 6 fast red blinking lights, then a couple slow. TV only 2 years old. Philips is horrible will not assist. Count me in the class action lawsuit Juan of Miami, FL September 20, 2009 Had this TV just over 2 years, and got the same sympton of the hundreds exposed here.( Philips red light district )which in effect means your bank account is going to be in the red after they take your money. They will not even bother to TRY to give you a solution. Their customary answer in two occasions that I called was : Sorry its out of warranty. So they expect me to get lost and don't bother them, it was nice to rip you off of $3000 + jerrod of pearland, TX September 20, 2009 i have a philips tv that i purchased while i was stationed in japan on a navy ship. i was gone all the time so it was never on. i just got back to the states and now the picture goes out, and no sound comes out. its not a recall model, i looked those up, but apparently it should be because a lot of people are psting about the same philips plasma tv. oh and dont call any help line for them, because they dont have any actual suipport for anything to do with plasma tv's. what should i do? Jacob of Costa Mesa, CA September 19, 2009 Screen started to go black every now and then randomly while still being able to hear audio. The screen would appear in a few minutes eventually. Today, I turned the TV on and audio worked but not screen...completely black. So I called a TV repair man, he is coming out tonight to look at the TV and says he will likely only be able to fix it in the next week (waiting for parts). I am shocked to see these posts and even more surprised to hear Philips has not issued a factory recall. One thing is for certain, I will never buy a Philips product again. The customer service, or there lack of, is shocking that such a large brand is not held responsible to selling a product that appears to lack common functionality. You don't hear of this issue with other brands like Sony, Samsung, etc... Troy of Philadelphia, PA September 18, 2009 I purchased a Phillips 42" TV in May 2005. By June 2005 it have been recalled. I pleaded with Phillips to give me a new TV since I had paid $3000 for it. I tried for a month to get a new tv but they would not budge. I finally allowed them to replace the ambilights. After they replaced them the sound was hollow and distorted. Then a year later the picture started to go out randomly. Software updates seemed to work. But I needed an update every few months. Now the picture goes out every 5 minutes. Soft ware updates don't work. They replaced the ambilight but they won't do anyting else to help out. Thomas of fraser, MI September 16, 2009 50 inch Philips plasma tv went bad, lust like many, many other consumers like me, no service, no parts available, need results from outside source besides Philips. They produced a bad product a should stand by it. 6 red blinks-3 red blinks. Jennifer of Chicago, IL September 16, 2009 We purchased a 42' plasma tv model 42MF231D/37 from Sears. At 2 years old, we got red lines one day, the next day no picture at all, only audio. Customer service at Philips told us to turn off the tv. As that did not work, they told us to contact a local service person. We paid $130 for it to be looked at and another $450 for parts. Once the $130 was a sunk cost, we were hopeful that the additional $450 for a new y-buffer would solve our problems. We are awaiting it back now, so I'm unable to report if it was successful and for how long. Many other reputable companies would be embarassed by such a terrible product, especially for a high-end product. JOHN of ANDERSON, IN September 16, 2009 My dad has a Philips-Magnavox 50" and it had the same problem the red blinking light that I'm reading about on most of the Tv's 42" 47" 50" 60". They have the same circuit board and it can be fixed and with the right parts so it dont just happen again and again and again in 1 to 3 yrs like the new ones do. manuel of newtown, PA September 15, 2009 i get the red blinks of death on my philips 50 inch plasam. It is currently at a repair shop. They say they can not find the parts to fix it with. jackie of amanda, OH September 14, 2009 Filed a claim on my tv, talked to 4 differant people, they each said a differant department will call on my repairs on the tv, yet nothing, no calls no repairs on my set, no return on my 69.99 i paid for the warranty. i want my set fixed, or my money retured. i feel they have been avoiding the issue of my tv . i cant afford to buy a new set, thats why i took out coverage on it.im almost 60 years old,and i cant work to earn money for a new set. Gaye of Rapid City, SD September 14, 2009 The remote quit working along with the picture in picture after about 2 years. I called to buy a new remote, but they were not available any longer. The aftermarket ones don't work for this TV PIP. The TV has been shutting itself off and on occasionally for years. I have adjusted the convergence often until this winter it wouldn't work. Philips said call a repair guy because the closest one they had was 300 miles away. I didn't buy an extended warrenty because when I read it, I didn't think it would cover anything that would likely go wrong with the TV. New tubes cost about $400.00. Now The TV is shutting itself off right away and flashing the red powerbutton light 8 times until I unplug it. From what I read, it will be another $400.00 to $500.00 fix that sounds temporary after reading here. These 2 fixes could pay for a new TV! We bought the "best new latest greatest" TV when we upgraded from our 27 inch Sharp (it worked fine). I think it was in 2002 that we payed about $3000.00 for the Philips 60WP9363 flat screen TV. We paid that high price because we had faith that we were buying a product of high quality from an established, reliable, high quality, brand name, company. We expected a Philips product would last for a couple decades. Since the company was well established, we thought that at the very least the company would be around for a long time making the replacement parts for repairs we may need along the way. We thought Philips would come out with an even better set and we would be returning customers, passing the old set down to the kids and buying one or two more! I feel like such a fool because the reality has been the lack of reliability, customer service, repair service or even parts, We are working class people and we paid lots of good money for that peace of mind when we could have gotten something else a lot cheaper. So I guess that is why I'm so angry about this TV. Steve of San Mateo, CA September 13, 2009 Our Philips Plasma TV model no. 42PF7220A/37 broke down. No picture no sound. Purchased in Feb. 2006 at Costco. Philips customer service was no help. They said we had to get a service tech to take a look at the set. Given the fact that Philips is no longer making Plasma TV's and that the web is full of complaints about their Plasma TV's, I want to add my name to the list of very dissatisfied customers. Richard of Gold Canyon, AZ September 12, 2009 I purchased a new Philips 50 inch plasma television, model 50pf9731d/37, serial #AG 1B0622 100117, from an on-line retailer called Plasma BAY.com. Purchase price was $2,431.50 plus $255.75 for shipping. I received the unit on December 13, 2006, and registered the purchase with Philips. They sent me an application for an additional 2-years warranty for $699.95. I opted not to to purchase the extended warranty because they are such a bad value and I fully expected this television to last for at least 10 years. I was living in Elko, Nevada at the time. In April, 2007, I changed jobs and relocated to Gold Canyon, Arizone. We were moved by professional movers. The television was packed in a special box with tilt indicators and was received with no indication of mishandling. The unit has worked mostly trouble-free since, except for the screen going pink and purple occasionally, but was not often enough to be a major concern. Last week, on September 9, 2009, when the tv was turned on the for the first time in the morning, it started to come on normally, the picture appeared for a split-second, then went black. The green power indicator on the front started blinking red in a definite pattern, and the only way I could get the picture back was to un-plug th eunit for a minute or two. Now this is the norm every morning. Sometimes I have to un-plug it two times to get it to re-set. The owner's manual provided no mention of this problem, so I went to the Philips' web-site indicated in the manual, but could find no support there, so I called the number listed, but it's an automated voice which asks a series of questions, which includes "is the product still under warranty". When th eanswer is no, the voice tells you tha there is no live technician available, then refers you to the above-mentioned web-site. So I followed the link to contact Philips via e-mail. I sent a short explanation of the issue, and asked for some information of what the red blinking light meant, figuring they could tell me what th esequence was telling me, so maybe we could fix th eproblem with out a lot of hassle. I received the reply tha t, since I had no remaining or extended warranty, that I should look in the yellow pages under "television repair". Since then, I 've been doing on-line research, which led me to this site, where I discovered that this is a very common problem with Philips' plasma tv's and there has been no help from Pilips. I just want to add my name to the list of people who will never purchase a Philips product again. Z. of Lon, CA September 10, 2009 Have a 50inch Phillips Plasma TV bought it over 2 years ago. Bottom half goes black for about 30 seconds to a minute. In the past day it's been getting worst as it happens every 10 minutes. I'm now just waiting for the blinking everyone is talking about. A lot of people with the same problem. This is really to the lawyers that review the complains on this website. With all these complains why have no one file a Class Action against Phillips. In this economy a lot of people can not afford to lose over $1000+. What else do we need for any lawyer to hear our complains and help us all. I think we are all willing to help to see Phillips pay for their dishonesty. frank of rockford, IL September 10, 2009 We have a problem with our 42PF9630A/37 42" philips plasma. After about three years, the top half of the screen would appear digitized/colorful.(see picture)... if we tapped on the top of the TV, it would go away for a while. This went on for a couple of months, then it also started happening on the bottom of the screen. One day, the TV would not start, only seven red light blinks. We loved our TV, the picture quality was great and the ambilight looked beautiful, but needless to say we are very disappointed. I called customer service, but they were no help. He said that they have never heard of the problem. When I told him that I found many people with the same problem on the web, he then said that a panel may have to be replaced. He tried to locate a service center, however the closest one was in Wisconsin, about 80 miles away (we're in Illinois). This can be a $500- $800 repair, which unfortunately would not be worth it... this is a very sad waste of resources. Again, we loved this TV, but now we are shopping for a new TV. I'd like to say we would buy Phillips, but we are uneasy about that... also, it looks like all the parts in the TV were Samsung. I doubt we would be buying one of those either. I realize that plasma's were still relatively new technology when we purchased it 3-1/2 years ago at Circuit City, however it is sad that Philips will not stand behind this design flaw Joe of Dunstable, MA September 9, 2009 On 01/27/08 we purchased a new 42" Philips LCD TV model #42PFL7422D/37 at BJ's for $1200. We were happy with the picture quality and had read good reviews online. How I wish I had seen this site before then! On 07/31/09, turned it on and there was sound but screen completely black. Called Philips cust serv # in my manual and was told if I couldn't even get the menu to appear onscreen (I couldn't), he couldn't help me. Since it was out of warranty and no extended warranty purchased at BJ's I could call anyone I wanted and pay out of pocket. Used 2 repair options, small co. couldn't tell us what it was after keeping it a week; we carted it there and back. Large co. came to home and over 4 weeks time, tried to replace power supply, then main board. I was told today, 09/09/09, that it is the TV panel itself (the screen)and would cost more to replace than buying a new tv. Called Philips again to talk to someone about their lousy product. Told automated voice it was over 1yr/no ext warr and she told me there was no live tech to talk to and goodbye then hung up...some customer service. Called again and had to lie about purchase date to automated chick just so I could get a live tech. This live tech told me she couldn't help me and "sorry for the inconvenience". I asked how to contact main headquarters and she gave me PO Box, Marietta, GA 30006 - they will supposedly reply to my letter. Their website conveniently gives no other options that I can see to talk to or email someone and complain about this. In searching web to find more info, came upon this website and am astounded at the number of issues posted here! A blinking red light was mentioned many times but since there are 58 pages of complaints, I cannot read them all to find out exactly what it is. I do have a series of blinking red lights where the blue power light used to be - is this the same as everyone else? I feel thoroughly ripped off and can't afford to buy another TV right now. We paid $1200 for this product and it lasted 1 1/2 years! I will complain to all the local network consumer reporters, the MA Atty Gen and the GA Atty Gen as well as BJ's. I will post as many rotten reviews as I can with online retailers who sell Philips products. I urge everyone to take the time to make similar contacts in their area. I will also write a letter to Philips/Magnavox but feel that will fall on deaf ears, if it is considered or read at all. I feel they owe me some restitution for their shabby product, 1 yr warranty or not! Paul of Milton, MA September 2, 2009 I am another victim of the red light syndrome for my 42" Philips Plasma TV. Symptoms same as everyone else. Called Philips and some halfwit told me that it was probably a problem with my power strip!! Called again and person acted surprised about this problem. What BS. Never buying another Philips product Ian of Glendale, AZ August 30, 2009 I bought 2 flat screen tvs a 50in and a 42in about two months out of warranty the 42in went dead with "the blinking red light of death" than two months later the same thing happend to the 50in. I called philips and they said that they do nothing for out of warranty pouduct, and to try their web site because he sees some info on there that might help. I asked him what the info was and he said that he could help me no further because my tv was out of warranty Herman of Boynton Beach , FL August 30, 2009 37" Philips LCD TV failed twice within 7 months. Red light blinks 5 times. Philips help was not good. First the said they would cover parts then went back on their word the next day. Jeff of Dexter, MI August 29, 2009 There's an easy, cheap fix to the Philips Blinking Red Light (7 flashes) problem that so many people have described here. We purchashed the Philips 42 inch plasma TV, Model 42PF9431D/37, at Costco in Nov. 2006 and the Flashing Red light problem began August 2009. Initially unplugging the TV for a short while and then plugging it back in addressed the problem, but that solution was very short-lived. Philips technical support was not at all helpful. They gave us the number of a local TV repair shop who informed us that it would cost $200 - $500 to fix. When I saw the same problem described over and over again on this website I figured the problem must have a common source. It turns out there is a simple answer and it is a shame that Philips won't acknowledge the problem. After searching around on the Internet I found a couple of postings on some "geek" sites that all offered the same solution to the problem. Let me say that I am electronically challanged and typically I am not able to fix anything electrical, but this fix was simple even for me (my 9 year old son was a tremendous help). The problem according to these "experts" is due to poor design and under-engineering. There are two low voltage capacitors that are the culprits for this problem. If you remove the back of the TV (the most difficult part of the repair, because there are about 50 screws to be removed), you will find a large circuit board in the center. You will see many coffee can shaped parts with flat silver tops, these are capacitors. The two problem capacitors will have raised up or bubbled tops (they should be flat). You'll probably find the two blown capacitors adjacent to each other and located at the bottom center of the circuit board. Ours were 3300 uf 10 volt and were replaced with 3300 25 volt, per recommendation of the experts. You'll have to take out the circuit board which requires the removal of screws and a few connector cables. You'll have to take the circuit board to a repair shop that will solder the old capacitors off for you and then solder on the new ones. Finding a TV repair service that is willing to do this might be the trickiest part. I was able to find a shop easily, but they were reluctant to do so at first. The guy that repaired it said they weren't authorized to repair individual parts on the circuit board and that typically they would replace the whole board. He said he couldn't guarantee that simply replacing the capacitors would work. I assured him that I had nothing to lose, I was about to scrap the TV anyway, and that if it did not work I would not hold them liable. He made the repair and charged me $35, I gave him an extra $10 for his trouble (his boss would not have approved). The whole repair took him 10 minutes. I brought the circuit board home and my son and I reassembled the TV in about half-an-hour. The TV is working like a charm. I'm submitting this post to this website with hopes that it will save others the hundreds of dollars that I saved with this simple fix. melinda of Douglas Park, Australia August 29, 2009 We purchased a 42" LCD on 1/6/08, and about 3 months ago i turned the tv on and their was sound and back lights but nothing on the screen it was black. I rang to get it fixed they took our tv for a week. when they brought it back i asked if it would happen again and they said that it is fixed now. They delivered it back to us and just as they were leaving it went again so then they fixed it in our house. Now just over a month later its gone again. When i rang the first time i rang Phillips to complain and the guy was so rude he actually got cranky with me, and did not want to help one bit. I can not believe a product can be so faulty when we falked out two and a half thousand and get a dud. I really think they need to do a recall on all phillips tv cause no one should have to go threw this. We thought we were doing a good thing spending a lot of money on a tv but all we have had is a headache. james of cordova, SC August 26, 2009 IPurchased new 52 inch lcd tv on May 2 2009, tv stopped working in july o9. I called Phillips to talk with their tech support( what a joke), and after 2 weeks finally got a repair man to look at it. I was told that the part that was bad can not be gotten by phillips because it was made in china. After many calls to Phillips they told me that I would have to box the tv and ship it back to them at my cost, and they would send me a refurbished model. Can you believe that? Pay 2 grand for a tv that last 2 months then goes on the blink then they want you to pay to ship it back to them and they will send you a refurbed model. I have owned 3 widescreens in my life and i promise you that i will never own another Phillips product in my entire life. No one in my family or friends will buy one and when i meet someone the first topic of conversation will be how [bad] Phillips tvs are. Kirk of Appleton, WI August 24, 2009 Purchased a 50" Phillips plasma tv 2 years ago. About a month ago I turn on the tv and it had NO picture. It sound, but nothing else. I dropped it off at the only Phillips repair shop in town. After three weeks of no news, I recieve a call telling me that phillips doesn't sell the individual Buss bars that I need for the repair. So they need to by the entire board for $1300. I only payed $1400 for the tv brand new. Not sure where to go from here?? Yu, of Seatac, WA August 24, 2009 I own a Phillips 50inch plasma w/ ambiance light just a little over a year. I too, share the same issues like most off you here. My tv would go blank for 10 to 15 second and back on. Recently, I got the blinking red light. To get it back to work; I reset the breaker swith in the garage because I can't reach behind the tv to unplug it. So now, just got to wait till it doesn't work any more like most of you here. It seems like Phillips doesn't care about this ongoing issues that they been having or take appropriate steps to correct or inhance it's product. I am so disapointed with Phillips. Never again will I have anything to do with their product. One last thing, I got another Phillips to remind me every morning.....a shaver. Can't wait for this piece of crap to go too. Doug of Austin, TX August 23, 2009 Well, I guess I am the latest casualty in the Philips Red Light saga. I bought my 50PF9630A/37 just at three years ago and started getting the 6/3 red binking light about 2 weeks ago. For the first week and a half, unplugging it until the lisght stopped and plugging it back in allowed me to keep watching. As of yesterday...nothing...nada...zilch. I did not waste my time with Philip's tech support since over 300 people in this forum have had no luck dealing with them. I now, too, will never again buy another Philips product. Christina of Yorba Linda, CA August 21, 2009 I purchased a 47 inch Philips LCD TV last year and a month before the warranty was up, a green line started to appear on the screen from top to bottom. I called Philips and they sent me a replacement but the replacement was worse. The speakers would give off this horrendous static noise while watching TV and you would never know when it would happen. Changing the channel or input would temporarily stop the noise but it would come back on again all through the day. I called Philips back and they said they would replace the replacement. A week goes by. I call back on the status. they canceled the order and NEVER TOLD ME! Apparently they re-ordered the replacement but I don't believe them and I am NOT even treated as a priority. PLEASE HELP! Dianne of Philadelphia, PA August 21, 2009 We purchased this TV back in August 2006......we experienced the TV going off and on for a long time when one day the Tv shut off and the 7 red blinking lights started. This was in March 2009, in our experience we had an extended warranty and between the warranty group and the repair company the Tv was fixed with only a minor delay. Then on August 14, 2009 I was watching TV....a show that I had on DVR and my phone rang so I paused the show. Within a few minutes there was a VERY loud humming noise coming from the TV. When I looked over it looked as though some kind of liquid was coming down the center of the TV. I really thought from the loud humming that the TV was going to blow up. I turned off the TV and that is when I noticed what look like a crack down the center of the TV. When I touched the screen it was not a crack on the outside but on the inside screen. With the TV still under warranty I called the warranty company and submitted a claim. I told her and another girl and the the reapir shop all the samething.......no one ever said anything that would have led me to know what they all decided happen to the TV. We are now being told that I am a liar and that the TV suffered some kind of impact and that it is not covered under the warranty! We are trying to find anyone that has had a similar experience. I am a big girl now and if I did something to my TV I would just say that I did. How can they come to this conclusion without even looking inside the TV? Eric of SIOUX FALLS, SD August 21, 2009 I purchased the Philips HTS6500 DVD Home Theater System. It worked fine for a while. I went to put a DVD in about two months ago, and the display just kept going back and forth between "close" and "eject" and the DVD would not play. Also, none of the buttons on the front panel worked, only the volume control knob. There have been many other similar complaints that I have come across while searching for a solution to this problem. I feel that there should be a recall so that the product will be fixed free of charge or replaced with a new similar product. art of greenville, OH August 20, 2009 I purchased a 37" phillips LCD tv in 2007 and i have had it in for repair several time and now again, it will not turn on and the green power light just flashes. My company buys phillips for our new stores and I can assure you they will get a copy of this email and i will convince them to change brands. This tv is a joke. nancy of red bluff, CA August 19, 2009 wow another update on the piece of junk i bought!my 51 inch model number 51mp6100d/37..repair man came out again for the second time I was told it was a different board this time for another &150.00,i called customer service again"no help there" asked if they had an address other than a p.o.box. Jackie of Thornton, CO August 19, 2009 My husband purchased a Philips 42" plazma tv, Model #42PF9631d/37, in 2006 from Sears. He purchased a warranty for it and every year when the warranty is about to expire the tv starts to melfunction. Last week Sears called to inform us that the warranty was about to expire and my husband declined to renew it. Lo and behold this week it started to not turn on. The power indicator light would turn red after trying to turn it on and blink several times. It will also turn itself off and back on when watching it. I have noticed several people on this site with the exact same problems. This warranty crap is such a SCAM! I can't believe that people haven't filed a class action lawsuit against this worthless company! Tonya of Charlotte, NC August 18, 2009 Purchased 50 inch plasma tv dec 2006. Stopped powering up Aug 2009...Purchase price about 1,700.00 What a waste, I need a bail out too from PHILLIPS...they are useless. Their products are worthless as well. They don't last. It is costing 135.00 just to have a repairman come look at it. GOD only knows what it will cost to repair...probably too much than I am will to invest...so it will go to the junk yard...complements of PHILLIPS Jeff of Anahiem, CA August 13, 2009 Plasma TV, Model No. 42PF7220A, Serial #YA1A0614001641. Manufactured April 2006.Purchased May 2006. Service Request #85VT1, TV has stopped working Red power light flashes 7 times witch is a power failure code. Complaints of this same problem are posted all over the web AV forums ( Philips TV 7 Blinking red lights). Most consumers are having the problem within the second to third year of ownership. Repairing of this problem will cost over $600.00. Philips will not help consumers with this obvious design/ engineering problem. I have contacted Philips customer support with no help. corie of chestermere, AB August 13, 2009 I bought a 42'philips hdtv aprox 2 years ago i couldnt afford it but wanted one so bad i bought one anyway, about 6 months after having it the flashing red light comes on so turn it off then turn it back on again thinking it might have been too hot but after a while it didnt matter how long i have it on it would still flash red...now it has become worse then it was. it takes me about half an hour to 45 min everyday just to turn it on in the mornings! now im to a point where once i turn the tv on i leave it on all day and night..my electricity bill is very high because of this tv and there is no way i can afford to repair it let alone buy another tv.. ..im really disapointed but there is nothing else i can do,i just will never buy another philips tv again nancy of red bluff, CA August 12, 2009 just an update on the 51 inch tv i bought, model number51mp6100d/37.the new computer was put in at a cost to me..of $537.48 one month after new computer was put in the tv did the same thing wouldnt shut off,,well teck came out and yup it was the computer again..or so he said now were going on the second computer..wow philips you sell junk and dont care... Angela of Mechanicsille, VA August 9, 2009 The television we purchased in late 2006, a 50 inch Philips plasma television has ceased working. I called the customer technical support center four times in two days to remedy the problem and it created another problem which they technical support center cannot correct. The television was indicating an upgarade was needed to correct the issue. At the advice of the Philips support personnel, I purchased a USB stick, formatted it myself, downloaded the upgrade from their web site and installed it on the television. According to the information on the upgrade it should have corrected the problem. The third support center tech was not very knowledgeable and my husband and I were able to get the television on and working. The following morning, we went to turn the television on and nothing happened. When I called the technical support center again, I was told there was nothing else they could do except provide a phone number to an authorized Philips dealer/repair person in our state. This television cost over $2000.00 a little over two years ago and it apprears will cost us even more. Does any one stand behind their products anymore? Alison of Midland, MI August 9, 2009 We purchased a Philips 50" plasma with ambilight, Model #50PF9631D/37 from Circuit City in Saginaw, MI in Feb. '07. Maybe a year after we got it it started turning on and off by itself. A year and a half after having it these things starting happening: The screen would go black, the screen would go pink with vertical banding lines, the top half of the screen would go black or the top half would have banding lines. Now the past 8 months occasionally we'd turn it on and it would click, the green light would come on and then it would start flashing red and there would be no picture or sound. It used to be fixed by resetting the tv but today that won't work. We've done it a dozen times and it won't stay on now. Alan of Humphrey, NE August 6, 2009 47 inch flat panel television has been down for a month. nancy of red bluff, CA August 4, 2009 i purchased a philips 51 inch rear projection television,model#51mp6100d/37 in oct,05,after 1 year the tv wouldnt shut off.we had to unplug it every night.i called the number on the service manual i received wqhen i purchased the tv but the number wouldnt go threw..after a few months of trying that number it finnally went threw when customer support answered i told them about the problem with my tv,they continually told me "nothing they could do about it" i kept calling the number until i got a teck that would help me..i finnally got a number for repair service.i called them made an apt.they came out I was told the tv needed a new computer and the teck said this never happens and is very rare..I told him to order the computer and when all done the bill was $537.48. i continued to call customer support as i felt the tv was a problem to start with but not much help from them..now its a month later and the tv is doing the same thing "wont shut off again" i finally got an email from customer support for philpis but email was undeliverable.then i was told to try web site and click on other to type a complaint to philips,no such web site.i again called customer support to get help from them.thats a joke.so now again im on the phone with tv repair.and will cost me more money out of pocket.philips is the worst set ive ever owned this company should be out of buissness..... Dennis of Squamish, BC August 1, 2009 The Green light comes on for the T.V but it fails to come on. Phone philips many times only to be told " to bad for you" take it to a repair shop. This is the second time with this very same problem in 14 months. PEOPLE DON'T PAY 2000 DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING THAT BREAKS EVERY 7 MONTHS Ivan of miami, FL July 31, 2009 Purchased a Philips 42" Plasma about 2 years ago & all of a sudden it goes black & now the dreaded blinkin red light which I've been reading about has come on. Really can't believe Philips has been putting out such an defective product. I imagined the it would not last forever, but I thought that it would at least last 5-6 years. In this economy we really can't be spending that much money for something that will only last us a few short years. There must be something we can do. JP of st. louis, MO July 28, 2009 I bought a 42 inch phillips plasma tv number 42pf7320A/37 a little over 3 years ago. It stated to have a red color across the top half of the tv a month ago. I thought this was from our dish...it was not. Today, the picture just went out. I have sound, but no picture. The number for phillips goes to a call center and they do nothing....to bad. I told them there were thousands of complaints for the same issue on their plasmas...did not care. They told me to call a service center. I said that they have a bad product and they did not care. Michele of Philadelphia, PA July 28, 2009 I purchased a 60 inch Philips "DLP" Projection HDTV about 2 years ago at Sams Club and I now have the same story of the "Flashing Power" button and no picture. The tv never shuts off or should I said power down to reset itself. I unplug it for hours, even days with no prevail (as instructed on Philips support website). Whether these products are covered under warranty or not Philips should be concerned that so many people with varies products are arriving at the same conflicting situation. Philips' needs to take ownership of these faulty products and issue a recall and have them fixed. Instead, of becoming a money warlord preying on the consumers who once support their business. I am now out of a tv and work with no money to repair or replace my tv. joseph of New York, NY July 26, 2009 I have owned a Philips Ambilight Plasma (42PF9631D/37) for under 3 years, with no cable and no video games attached. Average use was one movie per month (it was in my 2nd home). Now I have the classic 7 red blinking lights and no support from Philips. Victor of San Juan, Puerto Rico July 25, 2009 I have a 50" Philips Plasma Ambilight that stopped working just 2 yrs after I purchased it. It does not power up and all I get is a blinking red light (7 times). Called Customer service to no avail. This is outrageous. We paid $3,000 for this piece of junk and have no one around to fix it - whether or not it is practical this bad experience... I read on the Internet that there is a lot of people with the same problem. It is time that Philips hears our complaints and does something about it. I am certain that this could become a recall if we join forces... Taryn of Springfield, MA July 24, 2009 We purchased a 50" Philips Plasma with Ambilight about 2 years ago. For the past 6 months the tv would shut off for about 20-30 seconds randomly. We thought it was the cable connection and had comcast here every other week trying to fix the problem. About 1 month ago upon turning on the tv and seeing the green light, it would then turn to red and flash about 5-7 times. Stop for about 5 seconds and then flash again. We would unplug the tv and re plug it back in. As of today the tv WILL NOT go back on. So I decided to look on line and noticed that we are not the only consumers out there with the same problem. When this first started happening we called Philips they advised us to upgrade the tv's software. So we went through all of there instructions and we were able to download the software to the tv. This upgrade did absoulutely nothing. We called the service department back in which they advised we would have to contact a tv repair shop in our area to have them come and fix it. I will never buy from Philips again. Manoj of W. Chester, PA July 23, 2009 The Philips Plasma 42 Inch TV 42PF7320A/37 now displays red blinking lights/pixels on the display. There is image on the screen fully overlapped with these lights. Seems like many people have the same issue with this Model. Philips CS is of no use. michael of orangevale, CA July 22, 2009 I called about my TV # 27pt6443/37 andthey told me since the store closed I need to pay and submit a claim..Thats just wrong!!! If they can't support there product they need to stop selling! All I have is Phillip and Magnovox. I will never buy again!!! TV is on two years old..My daughter APEX has lasted longer then this one so I had to bowwor it. Joe of New Milford, NJ July 20, 2009 Purchased 50" Phillips Plasma TV from BJs. TV is two years old and I now have problem with blinking lights as everyone else has described. My tv wont go back on even when unplugged. I cannot believe PHILLIPS is not supporting this problem and leaving all these customers hung out to dry. This is an expensive purchase and the manufacturer needs to be held accountable. If this was an issue with automobiles, there would be a remedy. David of La Jolla, CA July 20, 2009 I have a Philips HD TV (Model #42PF7320A/37). For the past several months, once the TV has warmed up (approx 90 mins), the lower half of the screen suddenly goes black and will remain that way or alternate occasionally with a white lower screen with flashing, colored vertical lines. The upper half of the screen remains perfect with no distortion. This problem occurs regardless of the input (TIVO, cable, or DVD player.) I have called Philips to no avail. Heriberto of Caguas, Puerto Rico July 17, 2009 On 29 july 2006 i purchased a 37" Philips lcd HDTV model 37PF9431D/37. Around june 08 the unit started to shut of by itself and be back on around 20 to 30 seconds later. This would happen 4 or 5 times a day. Since i had and extended warranty the tv was serviced by a local tv repair shop and was returned to me 3 weeks later, and the service performed was "soldered fuse on power supply". I must also mention the fact that around march 08,Philips send me a letter offering to extend their coverage for the following year and like in the previous year i could pay in 3 payments of $46.65 each. On 21mar08 i mailed my first check. They did not send the bill for the 2nd or the 3rd payment like they did the previous year and admit that i forgot about the payments until i realized that the expiration date of my warranty was 29jul08. When i called about this they informed me that Philips no longer provied extended coverage to Puerto Rico. The tv kept acting the same way and after many calls to them agreed to have the same tv repair shop check it again, it was picked up on 22aug08 and returned to me on 17sep08 and according to them nothing wrong with the unit. It kept working with its flaws but working until the morning of the 15jul09. I turned it on and those famous red blinking lights come on, but no video or sound. It is dead! I should also add that after many calls i got my money of my first payment to my extended coverage that was to be valid until 29jul09. Jerome of Amherst, NY July 15, 2009 Purchased set from Sam's Club 7/20/07. Called Phillips and told out of Warranty. Model # 42pf5321d/37 serial #ya1a0612020201 You turn the set on green light comes on and then you get 4 blinking red light and it stops and then blinks 4 more time and continues to repeat. Phillip says it is not their problem. I advised the number of complains from people on line. Phillips says they know nothing of the problem. This looks like a class action because they are using poor quality parts Fabiola of Forest Hills, NY July 15, 2009 I bought a 42" Plasma TV in 2006. Now there is a big, thick black vertical line going down the left side of the T.V. impeding me from watching properly. John of easton, PA July 10, 2009 The Red Light Special! I think this is what Philips should call their Plasma TV's. Looking at all the people with the same problem, it strikes me as more than a cooincidence that all these TV's start having the same problem between 2 years and 2 1/2 years. Tried the software update, but since i don't get a picture, cant check idf the upgrade worked. My TV is still broken. Like another Philips customer, I will no longer even buy a lightbulb from them! Kitty of Pensacola, FL July 10, 2009 This is the latest of several problems we have had with this 42" plasma tv from Philips. The first few times were all concerning needing to download new firmware constantly. Today we got a fuzzy orange bar over the bottom portion of the set and it turned itself off after about 30 seconds. There has not been any kind of response from the set since. I contact the company only to be told it was out of waranty and to call a repairman. Of course the closest one if 50 miles away and our expense. We are experiencing the wonderful seven blinking red lights on the front of the set and the only way to stop them is to unplug the tv. Nathan of Ballwin, MO July 10, 2009 I also have been hit by the flashing red light. I bought a 50" plasma from best buy in July of 2006 and had no problems with it till a few weeks ago. For a few days I could unplug the tv and plug it back in but now it won't even turn on. I sent an email to Phillips and they said they weren't told what the error codes were. I was just wanting to know what to expect as far as getting it repaired as I did not get an extended warranty. I can get a local TV repair to give me a quote for $70. I just don't want to spend money on something that will break in another 2.5-3 years. It appears that everyone is having the same problem around the same time. I would hope that perhaps a class action suit could be brought about. Although I know in the end all we would get is a certificate good towards purchasing a new tv, which is useless if it's another phillips with the same issue. Andrea of virginia beach, VA July 8, 2009 I bought a 50" Plasma tv april of 2007. In January we began to have problems where the tv cut itself off. I've called Philips who told me since it is out of warranty it's not their problem. i was advised by their customer service dept to contact an authorized repair facility. I called Maurice Tv/Electronics per Philips Instructions. I was adv that it was a manufacturers problem. they had seen several of these model tvs and that the circuit boards have gone bad and it is not able to be fixed b/c the parts are not available. I called back to Philips who transferred the issue to their Customer Relations Dept who stated that becuase it is out of warranty it is not their problem. After doing some research on the product I uncovered the fact that the whole series of this type of tv is defective and that Philips is refusing to refund any money nor replace the item. Al of Metamora, MI July 7, 2009 Won't start. Blinking red lights. Several plugins and unplugs to get it to start. Very expensive. Harly used. Extremely angry. Purchased oct 14 2006. Jennifer of Haverhill, MA July 3, 2009 The tv is about 3 years old. I have the same problem that I have seen listed by many other owners of the same television. Just stopped working one day...a red light flashes 6 times or so., pauses for a moment, and then repeats continuously. This was a very expensive tv... what is being done about these claims??? Michael of Roy, WA July 2, 2009 I bought a Philips HD 42" (model – 42PF7320A/37), plasma in August of 2006. After about a year, randomly the top half of the screen would turn blank out and look like someone through yellow and red paint on it from the inside but the bottom half of the screen looked clear and great. This would happen for about 15 minutes and then it would stop and go away for a day or two. After talking with the satellite company on many occasions they thought it was my satellite boxes because they were so old and they said they had heard of that due to the closed caption broadcasting and finally talked me into upgrading. So I upgraded my Satellite to HD so I could take advantage of the HD TV (which wasnt explained to me when I bought the TV), That lasted for about a month with no issues and then the top half problem started again. I called the satellite folks and they told me that it is the TV and has nothing to do with the Satellite. Now, last night I am watching TV and all of a sudden the TV turns itself off and I see the power light turn red and flash 7 times in a row, then it pauses, and then repeats. I unplugged it for about 10 minutes and plugged it back in and heard a 1 second moment of sound like it was going to start and then it went to the red light flashing 7 times. I called Philips support and when I told her what model it was, first she started laughing, then walked me through gathering all the info, then asked me to go power it off. I had to explain to her that it wont turn on, so she got a little rude with me and said "Just unplug it from the wall", I then informed her it had been unplugged since last night, now what? then she started talking real low and soft and when I told her I couldn’t hear her she started yelling in the phone. Needless to say I am not happy at this point but she walks me through plugging the TV back in and immediately pressing the power button and holding it for 10 seconds and letting go. Same response, 1 second of sound and then it shuts off and goes to the red blinking led lights. That’s when she tells me while giggling, "Well your obviously out of warranty, and there is nothing we can do about it, its a known issue, you need internal servicing so will need to call someone at your own expense to fix it." and gave me a number to a service company close by to call. I did call Sears (where I purchased it), as well but since I didn't get an extended service warranty they will not help me, but they had heard of the issue. RAUL of pasco, WA July 1, 2009 bought 50 inch plasma tv, turns on after numerous attempts of plugging it in and, picture goes out once in a while after its been turned on. Only had it for about 2 1/2 years CHAD.DAVIS of CLOVIS, NM June 29, 2009 Bought a 50" Phillips Plasma TV, after 6 months the screen went black. Contacted customer service and they advised there was only one repair man in the area about 30 miles away from where I lived. He showed up in a rusty beat up old Dodge van to pick up the TV. After about 4 months and numerous calls to customer service they finally agreed to send me another TV. The TV they sent me was a used repaired model that matched the one I had. Since there is only a one year warranty on the TV I asked customer service if the warranty had been extended and they politely advised," no," it would not be extended. I informed customer service that I had only had the TV for 6 months and they had it for 4 months. That only left me a couple of months warranty on the used/repaired TV they were sending me. Customer service seemed less than interested in my concern. I finally received the TV and it worked for 3 months and then started giving me problems. The TV is dead in the water now and I have no warranty left and from what aI hear probably no hope of getting it repaired or replaced. Very frustrated with Phillips and their products I will never by another phillips product. In addition to the TV the DVD/ surround sound system I had bought when I purchased the TV also went out about 5 months after purchase! both phillips products have failed on me and it would appear I am not hte only one who has had these problems with company. I would hope that a class action suit is filed against the company but I feel I am just out the money and will have to consider it a learning experience that Phillips products are definately a waste of money. Susan of Phoenix, AZ June 28, 2009 I have a Magnavox 32" digital widescreen LCD HDTV w/ATSC/QAM tuner purchased 12/16/06 from Sears. Six weeks ago while watching TV there was a popping sound in the front of the set near the green power on/off switch. It has not had power since then. The tech installed supply power and BSS boards - discovered to be rebuilt like original boards in my new TV. TV still does not power up. Panel board supposedly on order. My extended warranty indicates new replacement TV when original sales amount is reached for parts/labor ($800). My original Magnavox was 13 years old when I gave it to charity - no replacement parts or service calls. Problems with this set after only 2-1/2 years! My 32" was sold as new, not rebuilt Dollie of Henderson, NV June 16, 2009 Two years or so ago my senseo HD 7810 leaked very hot water underneath the machine.I think this is a safety hazard. It still leaks, but I only use it occasionally. I'm always checking and cleaning up underneath it. Thought you needed to know. thanks. My number (04202) is not included in your recall. Alizabeth of Indianapolis, IN June 14, 2009 About a month in a half to 2 months a ago I went out a bought the 19pfl3504d/f7 model tv and noticed that it was making loud buzzing noise when turned off. I called up to customer servicer because I wan't to fimilar with this product and was told that I needed a software update for the tv. I really thought that was ridiculous since I had just bought the tv but I went ahead and did. Afterward the stopped making the noise. Soon after I had my problem with the tv. I started to get a lot of phone calls at work about the loud buzzing noise. I thought that is was starting to get insane when I started getting call about that tv that were made less the 4 weeks after the problem was discovered and Philips hasn't correted the problem but rather continue making the tvs the same way and have the consumer do the software update themselves if the problem is bothering them. I found it extremely horrible when philips would continue to ignore the problem that they are having with there tv and continue to sell poor quality merchendise. After dealing with completely justified complaints from hundreds of people on units that were out and in warranty I had to end my employeement with philips. I know that after working for philips and buying a Philips tv, which has since gone dead, that you should NEVER BUY PHILIPS. It will be much less stressfull to go without tv for the rest of your life. Wayne of Fort Myers Beach, FL June 14, 2009 I purchased a 42 inch Phillips LCD, Model PFL4203D/27, three days ago from Sams Club. I downloaded the most current firmware for the set, the day I brought it home. Every day there is a noise coming from the back of the set that lasts about 20-30 seconds that sounds like popcorn popping. I turned the volume down to make sure the noise was not coming from the audio circuit. I phoned Phillips today and spoke to a service representative and asked if he would check the computer records and see if there was a documented problem like this for this model. The service representative said that there was no documented problem and went on to ask when a service technician could come. I told him not to bother and I would be returning this set to Sams and I would buy another brand. His response, "I fully understand sir." I guess he knows how poor the quality is of this television and the other Phillips products. mark of harrison, AR June 14, 2009 Purchased new in 2007. Two years later, a series of red blinking lights. Unplugged to reset but didn't help. I called Phillips service center and they said to call a service tech located 80 miles away. After searching the internet, I see that this is a common problem after just a couple of years. PHILLIPS IS JUNK---DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!! Tim of virginia beach, VA June 14, 2009 Bought the Philips 42in plasma and I am having the same problems as the rest of the folks. TV blacks out after a few minutes being on. Unplug the replug tv works for about 5 minutes then the same results. Based on what I have read, I am in the market for a new TV. For all who want a class action, forget about it. The only one's who make out on a C/A are the lawyers. The plaintiffs get some bogus credit towards a new tv or some lame refund. The attorneys get their fee's and get to retire. I will just not purchase another Philips product. It is a shame, I bought a $200 regular TV and it lasted 15 years with no problem. Spend $1200 on a new TV and it only takes 30 months to crap out. Lesley of Stockbridge, GA June 13, 2009 My husband and I purchased a Phillips 42 inch ambilight plasma television around 2 and a half years ago for $2700 from Circuit City Yesterday the TV has stop working shows a blank black screen with a flashing pink light on the screen. Contacted Philiips they were no help, said that they knew of no problem with this television, suggested that I call for service. I refuse to pay up to 900 to have it fixed. I just know now that I will not ever ever buy another Phillips product. We are now stuck with a big useless blank screen on our wall...Shame on Phillips. We will be interested in being apart of any lawsuit againts this company Antonio of San Marcos, CA June 13, 2009 Bought a 42" plasma flat screen, model# 42PF7220A/37 back in 2006 at costco. The problem started a few months ago. While it's working fine, the screen goes black. sound is present, but no picture on any channels. To make it work I have to turn it off for a few minutes. then it works, but lately once it goes black, I have to wait until the next day and that's very frustrating. phillips do something !!! Timmy of orange park, FL June 11, 2009 I got a call at work it was my wife telling me that my TV that i spented about a 1000 on is not working any more. I just brought the tv not even had the tv that long This is completely unexceptable. something need to be done about this matter. I think everyone should get they money Back so we can buy another brand of Tv's Matthew of Mesa, AZ June 11, 2009 Same problem: I won a 42" Plasma Philips in December 2007 (one of the top closers at a bank I worked for) and have the same problem. Won't turn on and 7 blinking red lights. My prize has turned into a headache. Uggh!! Chad of Spokane, WA June 11, 2009 I bought a Philips 42" Ambilight TV from Best Buy in November of 2007. I have had a repairman to my house to replace the circuit board, then when that didn't work, Philips sent me a new TV. Now, this TV has the blinking red lights. I can unplug it, and plug it back in, but still have the same issue on a regular basis. Obviously, with all the hundreds of other complaints, something needs to be done. dave of PEMBROKE PINES, FL June 11, 2009 In Feb of '07 I purchased a philips 42" plasma tv model: 42pf9630a/37 this last weekend the picture went blank, and now I have a flashing red light on the front panel that blinks at 7 blink intervals. I called philips consumer hotline and got nothing but lip service. They also offered some 'releif' to the tune of a $80.00 credit toward the purchase of another philips tv.. ARE THEY CRAZY ??? why would I but another philips tv when mine crapped out in 2 years !! Now I have come to learn the philips tv division has been sold to another Japanese company, this explains their lack of warranty considerations. I will never buy another philips tv. I am currently having mine repaired , of course at my expense. I own a 32" SONY tv that is 15 years old and still runs like a champ!! Shame on you philips tv and good riddance. Hello SONY !!!!!!!!!! M. of chattanooga, TN June 10, 2009 20" plasma screen working fine last night, but this morning cycles through green/yellow/red led indicator light. Won't turn on manually or with remote. Though purchased new, Philips rep won't help because he says it was produced in 2006. Edward of new york, NY June 10, 2009 I purchased a 42inch Philips HDTV for $1500 a year ago and now every time I turn on the tv a bunch of blinking red lights come on and the tv does not operate. This is an outrage as Philips has no idea how to fix the problem and refuses to fix it. I can not afford another tv so I am televison-less. Freddy of Nashville, GA June 9, 2009 First of all my husband and I are both retired and we saved for quite a while to buy this T V, we thought we did enough research but guess we didn't look at the right places. We bought a 47" Phillips L C D last Sept. 2008 at Sam's Club, we paid $1300.00 with tax. May 15th the picture went black, we called Dish and since the smaller T V that we have was working they said it must me the T V. We finally got in touch with Phillips and on the 20th the T V was picked up by Olive Electronics and the closest business for repairing this T V is in Madison Fl. I called today and they don't have the part yet to repair our T V and could not give me an estimated time that the part will be delivered to them. We are so afraid that we are just going to be out that money we paid for that T V and as you know money is not easy to come by when you only live on social security. I know we are not the only ones with this problem but right now I would settle for a full refund for fear something will happen again to it after the warranty runs out. We really do not know what to do about this so please help us out if at all possible. We have been renting a T V for 3 weeks now but will let that go back this week. We have been renting a T V for the entire time and so far we have spent $130.00.I had to have surgery on my foot and have my leg in a cast so this has been very inconvienient and an added expense and worry. Frederico of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil June 9, 2009 Some days ago I posted a note reporting that known problem: After one year and half, without any explanation, the TV does not turn on. I also said that in Brazil we have very protective laws that compel vendors and manufactures to fix or exchange the products, or give back the money, when they have, as we say, a "hide defect". Before sue PHILIPS I decided to call them again, just giving a chance, and identified myself as a lawyer and warned them about the cost$ of the litigation. Well, they then opened another ticket and today PHILIPS just called me and said that they will send me another brand new flat TV, better (and bigger) than my broken one. They will call me back again on Friday. Let's wait... James of Penngrove, CA June 8, 2009 Purchsed 42pf7320A/37 42" Plasma Philips at Sam's in Puerto Vallarta and have the same problem as many others. Won't turn on and 7 blinking red lights. Opportunity for a good lawyer to sue Philips because so may people have the same problem stacey of hornchurch, United Kingdom June 8, 2009 i bought a Phillips 50" flat screen just over two years ago for £1000, the tv hs now stopped working and i have learnt that this is common with phillips televisions. this is not acceptable as i cant afford to get it repaired so i now without a tv. i hope a legal suite can be opened regarding this matter as their televisions are hardly cheap!! they are robbing us in broad daylight and getting away with it Regina of Thomasville, NC June 6, 2009 purchased a 42 inch plasma tv, just had it right at 2 years - paid 1300 to 1500 dollars for it (i have receipt) i have the blinking lights, will not come on, no sound, exactly like everyone elses complaints on this website. it is ashame pay that much for a tv and it break right at 2 years, called customer service, no help, said to take it to a repair shop, we were out of warranty- repair shop said without seeing it that he thought the "panels" were out and it would be extremely expensive to fix and he has had many complaint on these tvs David of Newhall, CA June 6, 2009 my 52" plasma tv has the same red blinking light problem. right now i am able to unplug the tv, wait 20-30 sec and plug it back in. the tv works but i am starting to do this on a consistent basis. i bought the tv about 2 1/2 years ago and like many other consumers they are having the same problem. isn't there an attorney that is willing to file a class action lawsuit? i feel like a small fish in a big pond where i cant do anything about it. i got ripped off for 2400 dollars and phillips should pay for this. this is BS!!!!!!! Chris of San Jose, CA June 6, 2009 My 2 yr old plasma has the "Blinking Red Light" problem that so many have described. Where can I sign up for the class action lawsuit? phil of delta, PA June 6, 2009 Bought a 50" plasma TV 2.5 years ago and as all the others it quit working and Phillips will do nothing about it. They need a class action suit brought against them. Dean of North Royalton, OH June 5, 2009 Same story as everyone else. Bought the TV for $1,400 around 2 years ago, now the TV is dead and all I get is the blinking red lights. Philips tech support (phone and email) has provided zero help. I referenced the thousands of complaints like this on the interent, and they responded by saying there is nothing they can do. Chuck Norris of Los Angeles, CA June 5, 2009 This is so depressing! I have some sort of red line circus thing going on the top of my screen. No red blinking light of death yet. I think I'm going to Round house kick the crap out of the next Phillips guy that says "dur is thur a problum?" 42" Faillips Plasma TV Janice of Burgettstown, PA June 4, 2009 I am another victim of the "flashing red light" on the Philips 50PF9631D/37 plasma television. At not quite 2/12 years, the television does not turn on until I have unplugged and replugged it - sometimes as many as 10 times. The green power light switches to a red blinking light; I unplug the tv, wait until the red light stops blinking, and then plug it back in again. It is taking longer and longer to work even using this method. I have called Philips, but the technician said she could not tell what would be wrong. She gave me 2 "approved" service shops - they were both in different states - more than two hours from my home!! I paid $2600 for the television in September of 2006. I will never buy another Philips product - not even a light bulb! I would love to see a class-action suit. Philips has to be aware of this problem, yet pretends it is not. I thought this television would last for many years - and gave up 2 years of vacations in order to pay for it. maria of melville , NY June 3, 2009 I purchased a 42inch phillips 42PF9631D after two years of having the tv a red blinking light appeared. The tv no longer turns on. Thousands of people have had this problem. After calling customer service several times with no responses or help. I am so fed up and am very willing to start a class action lawsuit with all unsatisfied consumers. philips should pay for selling a defective peice of garbage Deighton of Kamuela, HI June 2, 2009 42" plasma flat screen, model# 42PF7220A/37; same problem as other complaints, sequence of blinking red lights, tv will not turn on. NO SERVICE DEALERS ON THE BIG ISLAND. Purchased at COSTCO. Jason of Woodhaven, MI June 2, 2009 We too have the blinking lights. Phillips no longer makes this 50" plasma ambilight tv that we have. We purchased our tv 2 1/2 years ago. We are interested in a lawsuit... steve of minersville, PA June 2, 2009 About 2 years ago I purchased a philips 50 inch plasma tv with ambilight for a little over $2000. 2 years later it wouldn't turn on, blinking red lights on indicator, unplugged it several times and now picture is real dark. What I have read and peppered throughout the internet their are known issues with philips tvs. I called philips consumer care, and they basically hung me out to dry. It took me 2 years to pay for this tv and as soon as its paid off, it breaks. I couldnt afford the extended warranty on this set which would have been around 500 dollars. Shawn of Claremore, OK June 1, 2009 In 2006, I purchased a Philips 50" Ambilight Plasma TV that no longer works. It started shutting off and restarting on its own after the first 3 months we had the TV. I figured maybe it was just a remote transmission issue and it wasn't too inconveniencing, until two months ago, it started shutting down and then red lighs with a series of intermittent flashes - 6 flashes followed by three rapid flashes. At first, I was able to unplug the unit for several seconds and plug back in, then the tv worked fine. The problem progressed to the current state in which it is totally non-functioning. John of Villa Rica, GA June 1, 2009 Ditto - 42" Plasma Philips TV, model 42PF5321D/37. 22 months later the set failed. No picture. I contacted Philips. They sent a local repair serviceman out to inspect the set. He said that several circuit boards needed to be replaced due to failure. After three plus weeks, I was called and told that the parts were on back order. Three months later, I received a call from someone in Philips that they were going to replace the set. Kerry of New Albany, OH June 1, 2009 This tv bought in January 2006 has been a complete waste of money. I bought it at Sam's Club in Columbus, Ohio for $1999 plus tax. It is a complete disappointment to think that over $2000 has been spent on something that is now left us with only one option - trash it. The screen goes black with lines going across it and when i phoned customer service regarding the problem for advice they replied with "These tv's do this." How appalling is it for Phillips to still sell this product as well as Sam's Club keeping it on their shelves for loyal customers to purchase when Phillips and their customer service employees admit as they did to me on Friday, May 29th that the product is a lemon. I am completely unsatisfied and ask that the company stand behind this product and pay for it to be serviced. The customer service rep offered me a $20 loyalty coupon to replace the tv. I could not believe the audacity of the supervisor Aaron to offer such a small sum compared to what I spent to purchase the tv. My complaint with the company is reference number 7X6ZL. Please help me rectify this situation as a consumer of both Sam's Club and Phillips. Scott of Sutherlin, OR May 30, 2009 Yet another Blinking Red Light. Bought a Phillips 42 inch Plazma TV and after 17 months the TV won't turn on. I called Repair and they were going to call back with a Repair center number after I called back a second time they still haven't call me back. I research the issue and here you all our with the same piece of junk that I have. I was mess over by Suzuki in the early 90's and told the factory rep that I would never buy another Suzuki Quad and to this day I haven't. YES PHILLIPS I DO HOLD A GRUDGE. madhusudan of raipur, India May 30, 2009 I have deposited a CTV kit for repair on 23 May but till today it is not repaired. On contacting the care centre they were not confirming the date of delivary. jennifer of beverly hills , FL May 28, 2009 My 42 icnh lcd tv wont turn on. It flashes 5 red lights in sequence. I called the number on the users manual since there was nothing in it about that and the lady said its saying theres something going on inside the tv that wont allow it to turn on. well duh i already knew that. They couldnt tell me what it was. They program the tvs to flash these codes so they have to know what it is. instead of having to pay someone to figure it out. My hard drive did that once and the code meant it was the power supply easy fix without paying anymore on it. i dont feel i should have to pay more for a tv if something happens no one from philips is gonna give me support. the price we pay for the tvs should give us exellent support. needless to say we could buy a $200 tv and i bet it would explain everything about it. what goes wrong and how to fix it. i have three boys i cant afford to go by a new tv nor to have that one fixed PETINA of NORTH FORT MYERS, FL May 28, 2009 My mother purchased a Magnavox TV/DVD combo model #19MD357B/37 for my 12 year old daughter for christmas on 12/24/2008. just last month it started exhibiting an issue with the sound when it was on regular TV which is hooked up to a cable line. there was a loud "SHHHH" noise. This did not happen when playing DVD's. Then it started shuting off automatically whether it was on TV or playing a DVD and when we could get it to stay on, there was no sound at all. At times I can turn it off and turn it back on to get the sound to come on but usually is only temporary but even the turning off and turning back on itself is a struggle. I have been having to go through an exhausting regimand every night to get it to play as she has always slept with a TV on in her room and struggles to fall asleep without it. I called the "800" service center number and was basically told to take to a service center near me, which by the way, does not answer the phone nor return phone calls from any messages left, and that anyand all repairs will be at my expense. Granted, my mother paid around $700.00 for the TV which is much less than alot of people have paid for their [bad] MAGNAVOX PRODUCT but it is alot more than I can afford to replace and besides that I would think that a TV that is in that price range would last more than a year and a few months! I am absolutely disgusted with Magnavox and I can assure you that when I am able to replace my daughters TV or any other electronic device in my home, it most certainly will not be a Phillips Magnavox product! Donna of Burlington, NJ May 27, 2009 Bought a 50" Magnovox plasma televison less than 3 years ago, nowm, the tv wont go on at all. All I get is 4 blinking red lights. Called customer support and they recommend authorized dealers that is nowhere close to where I live. They wont help diagnose the problem, they claim they dont have technicians. What type of business is this? Read many, many complaints on this product, and still, the company doesnt get it. They false advertise with products that are suppose to be good, but is garbage, then they stick you with other garbage, r charge you an arm an a leg to repair it. Jason of San Clemente, CA May 26, 2009 Yet another of the same. Bought a 42 inch Philips plasma from Costco about two years ago and it suddenly stopped working - 7 red blinks. Ronald of Longs, SC May 24, 2009 When I retired and moved to our new home back in September 2005 my wife and I treated ourselves to a flat screen TV Philips Model # 42PF7320A/37 from Sam's Club for the rice of $2,499.00. That was a lot of money for us back then and still is. What we thoought that spending that much money we would not have to buy another in our life time. Well it looks just the opposite. Reading all the treads that people have written in to complain about the Phillips product we have the exact same problem now with our Model. The same blinking lights. Now i am faced with should I be tempted to call a repair company or just bite the bullet and buy a new one for less than a grand but I promise you that it will never be another Philips product. BTW - My wife did call the service center and was told to contact a repair center. Could not give us an explaination on the seven blinking red lights. Iliana of Miami, FL May 24, 2009 I have bought a Phillips Plasma Tv and after 1 1/2 it has stop working. There is a constant red light flashing upon turning it on. I have come to discover I am not the only one experiencing this problem. john of Girard, OH May 22, 2009 i bought an lg 32 in lcd tv on 12/2006. as of last week it no longer is working. paid 1100.00 for a tv that has not lasted 2 1/2 yras. contacted lg, absolutely no help at all. saw numerous websites c/o lg tvs and their experiences were the same as mine, though some people were able to get the tvs fixed or but ext warranties even though their tvs were just as old as mine. i did contact the service co. that lg had referred me to and even the gentleman there told me to call them back and try again and to get an event code for parts and service etc, lg acted like they had no idea what i was talking about. the service co told me that it is a power supply failure, which is a very common and costly repair associated with this make and model. 1100.00 for a non- working television, that lg phillips wont even stand behind of help fix Frederico of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil May 21, 2009 I bought a 26 inch LCD TV and after one year and a half it does not turn on anymore. I called Philips in Brazil and they offered my another TV, but I had to pay the half price of a new one. I decided to sue them. Fortunately the laws in Brazil allow customers to claim for the free repair, a new TV (or better if they do not have the same model) or give the money back. I am lawyer. I do not have to pay for a lawyer but I think this kind of behavior from Philips is totally unacceptable. They know it is a problem that is happening all over the world and they are acting like there is no problem. This is not a loyal behavior and laws in Brazil protect costumers. I am also claiming the moral damages for two reasons, I have to watch Ben 10 and High School Musical (I,II and III) every day because I have two kids and now just one TV :) and because Philips knows it is a problem that is happening all over the world and they are doing nothing. Better they are just increasing their profits. 1000K US$ so far. Deborah of Atlanta, GA May 20, 2009 My Philips 42" Plasma TV, model #42PF9631D stopped working. When I turn on the TV, a red light flashes and the TV does not come on. I noticed that there have been many complaints about Philips TVs with this same problem. I've only had this TV for 2 yrs. Tech support at Philips was not helpful at all. They expect me to pay $500-$800 in repairs. Jesse of Salt Lake City, UT May 17, 2009 Well, I have the same story as everyone else. I purchased a 42 in. plasma twenty six months ago and guess what-I now have a dead TV with seven flashing red lights...RIP OFF No way this companie didn't know this was an inferior product! Dan of Moravia, NY May 14, 2009 We're having problems with our 42PF9630A 37 Philips 42" Plasma. We purchased it for $2000 at Best Buy in June 2006. Around November 2008 we started having problems with the picture. At first, the top half of the picture would go black intermittently. Later, the bottom half started doing it too and at times, both halves at once, resulting in a black screen. We found that by tapping the right side of the TV, we could get the picture back, but eventually, we would have the problem again. Recently, we started noticing a horizontal line across the screen at times and just a few days ago we started seeing colored vertical lines on the bottom half of the screen. Again, tapping the right side fixes the problem for a while. Even before the problems with the picture, we noticed the TV trying to turn on by itself. While sleeping on the couch, I would here the TV click as if it were being turned on, but it never came on and no one was touching the TV or the remote. This seems to be opposite of some owner's problems, but a few have mentioned this same situation. Tonight, the sound went out all together all of a sudden. Tapping the TV and turning it off and on didn't work. All connections were correct. Eventually, we tried unplugging it for a few minutes to see if we could "reset" it and that worked, but I anticipate more of the same, as that seems to be a trend with this TV. We are a young family and put all we could into this item, $2000 not even 3 years ago. It is the most expensive thing in our house. It will take a long time for us to save up for another, especially in this economy. This is our only TV in the entire house so if it goes, we have no television whatsoever. From what I've read here and multiple other places on the web, Philips will be of no help and we can't afford a repair or replacement. We are furious that this big investment is becoming worthless in less than 3 years time! Philips is well aware of their shoddy products and should stand behind what they sell. I would expect this TV to last more than 10 years! They should recall the faulty products. I would certainly be interested in a class action suit against Philips. They should at least offer a tapping device to their customers so we won't have to get up to tap the TV countless times! Ron of South Park, PA May 14, 2009 i too have the red blinking light on my 50 in plasma...2 yrs old how can we get a recall going on the phillips tv people i also have a dead phillips dvd player Kenneth of Powders spring, GA May 13, 2009 Yet another victim of the blinking red light. This problem is all over the internet with various models. 50 inch philips plasma tv, barely used, bought new in 2006, started cutting off. After calling the technical support and buying 85 dollars of software to try an upgrade, they recommended a service tech. Paid 92 dollars and was told that this was a swollen capaciters problem. No warranty, new tv, only 3 years old, and a price of close to $600 to get it fixed. This is a manufacturing problem and Philips is not owning up to it. Allen of LAFAYETTE, LA May 13, 2009 I paid 1900.00 for this TV. March of 2007. January 2009 red light blinking 7 times continues and will not power on. Just keeps blinking red lights!!! george of Alpharetta, GA May 13, 2009 In Aug 2008 I purchased a 42" Plasma Philips TV, model 42PF5321D/37. 22 months later the set failed. No picture. I contacted Philips. They sent a local repair serviceman out to inspect the set. He said that several circuit boards needed to be replaced due to failure. After three plus weeks, I was called and told that the parts were on back order. Three months later, I received a call from someone in Philips that they were going to replace the set. Four or five weeks later, the repalcement set arrived. It was a factory rebuilt set. The servicement installed the the replacement set and removed the old set. The original set was 22 months old when it failed in June 2008. It cost me around $1200. The replacement set was installed in October 2008. In January, 2009, the replacement set suffered the same failure. I contacted Philips. Their reply was that the set was no longer in warranty and they could do nothing. It is very suspicious that both sets failed in less than three years of service. I will never buy any Philips product again. This company should be banned from selling in the United States. I amout $1200 spent on a tv set that didn't last more than 2 1/2 years. Ray of Knotts Island, NC May 13, 2009 My television has been giving me problems where it would not turn on and flashes red lights. Through the internet I have found this is a constant issue with philips and everyone is complaining and offered a link here. I chose not to complain. However, when I called them to either get a tech manual (the user guide is useless) or at least what the codes are for the red lights signifying the problem, I was told that they do not have them and I would have to contact one of their "authorized dealers". I don't get it, I bought the television, it's mine, yet I don't get any information on how to troubleshoot the errors I get. This is the equivelant of buying a ford and after the warranty goes out a light comes on showing a rockingchair, me asking ford what it means and them telling me I have to go to the dealership and pay at least $200 just to find out what the error code on my car that I paid for stands for. The warranty is over and I'm fine with that, the repair is on me, but being denied a troubleshooting manual for my television is just absolutely poor customer service and milking me for my money. I paid $3,000 for whats looking to be a 3 year television and I can't even get the specs on it. James of Bradenton, FL May 12, 2009 "invested" in a PM 50 plasma model 50mf231d. Cant get the red lights from flashing and it wont turn on. 2 years old and very poor quality in my opinion. ESPECIALLY for the $1299.00 I paid for it. That's a big chunk of change for such a poor TV. I know you hear of "live & learn", but that's really taking advantage of people. I guess this is what happens when outsourcing is taken to the extreme. Customer Service has certainly taken a back seat at this company. Mike of Tulare, CA May 8, 2009 I have had problems with my 50 inch Philips plasma flat screen since the first year i bought the tv. Which was a lot of money, that i bought from Best Buy.The first year it was under warranty, after talking to the service center a few time i finaly had a tech come out to look at my tv. After three times, the tech finaly found out that one of the control panels was faulty. About three weeks later i finally got my tv back, but also during this time im paying for my high defintion Directv box 89 dollars a month wasted. That was March of 2006 all this happened and was working fine until April 2009.Called Philips serve back to ask what i should do, they pretty much told me to call someone else that deals with plasma tv...Well 800 dollars later and two controll panels later i have my tv back. After wasting another 89 dollars on Directv, im at the same situation. Sarah of Tewksbury, MA May 6, 2009 We are yet another victim of the dreaded blinking red light problem. Bought a Philips 42PF7320A/37 plasma TV back in December 2005. A week ago the TV just shut off and wouldn't power back up. Unplugging and plugging back in just results in the red LED blinking 7 times. Bought and installed a new power supply board, but didn't help. Will NEVER buy another Philips product!! There needs to be a class action lawsuit filed considering the hundreds and probably thousands of consumers affected by these faulty TV lemons!!! Jennifer of Spring hill, FL May 2, 2009 Bought a 50" Plasma in 1/07 and just a few days ago the power started acting funny. We unplugged it from the wall and plugged it back in. It came back on...yeah! Well, now it won't come on at all. I get those red lights much like everyone below me. Is there a solution to this? Buy another TV huh? Mariane of El Paso , TX April 26, 2009 Philips TV Model 32PFL5332D/37 purchased in 2008, barely used as it was the 3rd TV in the house doesn't work anymore. There is a red light that blinks and there is no image and no sound. Lisa of Jonesborough , TN April 24, 2009 Phillips plasma TV model 50PF9631D/37. The power started going out. In order to fix the problem we had to unplug and replug the TV. Eventually, this stopped working, now nothing works. The TV has completely gone out. All you get is 7 flashing red lights, a pause and 7 flashing red lights again. This will continue until you unplug the TV. I feel like Philips should recall this model TV. $3,100 purchase price. Lorraine of Bristol, RI April 21, 2009 I bought a Philips 42" Plasma TV in 2003. After the year's warranty expired I then purchased 2 consecutive - 3 year warranties totaling $3,300. In March the TV fell into disrepair. The service technician said he couldn't repair it. He also informed me that the TV was manufactured in 1993! That means it was 10 years old when I bought it. Service Net is contracted by Philips for the extended warranties. Service net will honor the warranty and provide me with a "NEW" TV. My concern is this: hold old can a TV be and still be considered "NEW"? I've been informed that accepting the "NEW" TV will void my current warranty which still has 18 months left. Mladen of Grayson, GA April 21, 2009 52" Philips TV stoped working after year and half...blinking red lights. We paid it around $1,600 at Sears. Just had technician today and he ordered part for me(power supply board), total cost should be around $520 with 90 days warranty. After reading these comments I'm thinking about canceling my order. Kelly of Chicagoheights, IL April 21, 2009 My husband and I bought a 42'Flat Screen Plama TV and its not even 3yrs old, and all of a sudden it went off, then the LCD light went from green to flashing RED, I have called Philips numerous times to found out if there is a recall on the TV and they told me no, I have talked to many service reps and have been told differant stories, This TV cost us nearly 2500, and Philips cant help, but wants us to have a service repair person to look at it, which will cost anywhere from 109.00 to 150.00 just for a serivce call. Thats not including parts and labor, You would think that the way the economy is now , that the companies would do what they can to help. I will contact channel 2 news to let them know what kind of company philps is and what products they make. I have read several complaints on this website and I dont see philips trying to re-call this type of TV. I will never buy this type of TV made by this company. They are willing to send me a replacement television, but one that is smaller than my original television and much cheaper. I thought I was alone in the television mess according to what they told me: We have few consumer complaints and few returns. I guess I was wrong. I have called, taking an hour out of my work time, several times only to get incompetent idiots who cannot help me. All they say is that they sympathize with me. I don't need their sympathy. I want my $1500 and 9 months back!! I have even sent letters and made so many calls I do not know what to do. That was $1500 of hard earned money down the drain!!! After some searching and a phone call to philips, it looks like I have a $1600.00 piece of !#*&%. Thank you very much philips, in the future, when your marketing people are trying so hard to create a appealing television, REMIND them that customers would like to purchase a television that MIGHT last for more than a twenty five months. OR better yet, make sure salesmen/women warn customers that this nice looking, high priced television will only last twenty five months. I bought a 42" Plasma TV Model 42PF9630A for $2800 in '05. After about two years of using the TV the display turns black then the upper half of the screen goes pink or black. The TV finally completely died Dec. '08 with an LED that blinks 7 times. The TV did have a recall "arcing capacitors" related to the amibilight feature. I called Phillips and I'm given the run around by different departments that say the TV is too far out of warranty. The fact of the matter is a $3000 TV should last for more than 3 years. Nathan of Oldsmar, FL February 3, 2009 Same thing that everyone else has had happen. Purchased Phillips 42" Plasma TV with ambilight model 42PF9631D/37. Watched it the night of the super bowl and the next morning it clicked on, then shut itself off and blinked red. After reading a lot of the complaints on here it seems stupid to do anything with Phillips. Also repair is ridiculous, when new ones are so much less now. I have a 50" Phillips plasma that has been fine for 4 years. Hopefully that stays true. There is no doubt that a class action lawsuit needs to be filed. This effectively puts the burden of proof on the manufacturer and retailer to prove that at item shouldn't last that long. This makes sense because there is probably some law already in place in every state in the U.S. that makes selling junk like this illegal. It is just too hard to prove, unless you are a licensed electronics engineer, that it is THEIR faulty workmanship and/or engineering. I like the EU law because it puts the burden of proof on the people who designed and built the TV (or whatever), and who therefore are experts in the field. If you see of any member of Congress trying to get the EU Consumer Protection Law passed here in the U.S. SUPPORT IT. In October 2007 (10 month old TV) half of our TV screen started going black. After many phone calls to Magnavox, they finally told us to take it to a repair shop in San Diego. We live 600 miles south of the U.S. in Baja, Mexico, so in November some of our visitors took it to San Diego. It took over 2 months for the various parts to come in ("on order", "backlogged", "on route") were common statements - really, if they told you up front to wait 3 months, it would be more honest. I offered to pay for the item to be overnighted from anywhere in the world and was told this was impossible. We were counting on friends to bring the TV back, so it was imperative that it get fixed in a timely manner. Well, it eventually was fixed and returned. Here we are now, October 2008 and I am sure you can guess why I am writing at this time - it's a no brainer. The TV is now erratically going silent and erratically going completely black. And what did the ever so kind customer service woman Nikita tell me this morning? You guessed it Watson -the TV is no longer under warranty. Will we ever buy a Magnavox/Phillips again ? I think NOT. I read on another comment that Circuit City is no longer carrying the line due to these complaints - I intend to write to Home Depot and Walmart to recommend the same line of action. We would love to participate in a class action suit and intend to file a small claims suit once we are back in the States, asking for full restitution. I cannot imagine why this TV was not recalled and damages fully covered. What is this company thinking? economic damage $1000.00. frustration damage $priceless Bryan of Ward Cove, AK October 10, 2008 Bryan of Ward Cove AK (10/10/08) Henry of Los Angeles, CA October 6, 2008 Henry of Los Angeles CA (10/06/08) I think it is ridiculous how they treat consumers. The minute you buy their product and walk out the store, you are on your own, because they certainly would not help you with your issues. Their TV was not half bad, quality wise, till it breaks down. Once it is broken, good luck in finding help. I intend to use my newspaper sourse and internet news sourse to let people stay away from their product. At least the high-priced TV's. Watching an old hockey game and BLAM....volume and sound OK, but black flickering screen. Since I am in the army and i am always training, I am NEVER home to watch TV more than 2 hours a night. I called Philips and the guy said he never heard of my problem before. So now I have to cancel a planned vacation so the repair guy can come. It'll be in v ain, however, because the TV is going back for a full refund and a new LCD.

The features and picture seemed great until December 2006. No picture. I had purchased a 4-year service contract from Best Buy and the total of the TV and service plan was over $5,000.00. I called Best Buy. They told me I needed to call PHILIPS because it was still under warranty from them. I called 9 different times and had been told finally to call a repair shop in the city which I live. We had the TV mounted 8ft high on a wall. Because we had Best Buy mounting device the repair shop assigned by Philips would not take it down. My son and husband had to take it down. Very difficult to do. Five months later, I still don't have my TV. Waiting for parts. I could have walked to Mexico and back in the 5 months it has taken Philips to send parts. Angela of Mineola, NY April 26, 2007 Angela of Mineola NY (04/26/07) I bought a Philips TV on 11/23/04 and by June of 05 it needed repair as it did not turn on. It was still under warranty but I had to pay for labor, which cost me $180.00 besides the $400.oo I paid for the lemon of a TV. Now it is April 07 and the TV. doesn't turn on again. Consumer relations, corporate offices, and the escalations department which corporate told me I needed to speak to cannot help. Steven of Canton, OH April 20, 2007 Steven of Canton, OH (04/20/07) Michael of Deer Park, NY April 4, 2007 Michael of Deer Park NY (04/04/07) This tv cost almost $2,000 and Philips doesn't not seem to care about customer satisfaction. Their products seem to have a high failure rate and replacement parts take a long time to be shipped. Meanwhile, I still pay my cable bill with no tv watch. Eric of Los Angeles, CA February 6, 2007 Eric of Los Angeles CA (02/06/07) After 5 months, my 32" LCD TV that I paid 700 dollars for will not turn on after weeks of sound that would turn off randomly, and Phillips/Magnavox is no help. This is horrible for people who just want a nice product and then end up with no where to turn. James of Long Beach, CA December 6, 2006 James of Long Beach CA (12/06/06) No TV for over a month with no end in sight. Still paying HDTV and Satellite bills! Robert of Santa Clara, CA November 20, 2006 Robert of Santa Clara CA (11/20/06) The Service Group themselves were having problems and advised me to go to the Philips Customer Relations Department before the Manufactures Warranty ran out! I am currently seeking a new HDTV but I am not holding my breath on this one. This HDTV has gone from Excellent Review to Enormous Complaints. I will not buy Philips / Magnavox again and recommend that you do not either or this can happen to you. Or you too might be out $2000. I will be out $2000.00 if the HDTV is not repaired and Philips does not stand behind their product beofre the Warranty runs out. Mid June received new tv. Approx. 2 months later same thing happened again. Called Philips requesting refund. They referred me back to Melody TV, couldn't give refund and part was backordered. On 9-11-06 called Philips and part was still backordered. They said they would have consumer complaints call me in 3-4 days. On 9-12-06 Philips called and said they had received part & would ship to Melody's. Received tv back 10-14-06. 10-21-06 tv began doing same thing again & has done it 3 more times since. Phoned Philips 10-24-06 again requesting refund. They will not refund and referred me back to Melody TV. I am now convinced there is no way to get a refund on a piece of junk we paid $1300.00 for. I know I will never purchase another Philips product again. Nanette of Magalia, CA April 7, 2006 Nanette of Magalia CA (04/07/06) The economic damage to my husband and I is first, the $1200 we paid for the tv, and now a little over a year we will have to pay over $500 to fix this. My husband and I are having financial problems at this time and this will take most of what is left of our savings. But what choice do we have? We could choose not to fix it and then we are still out $1200 for a tv that should have lasted alot longer. I spoke with Philips and they will not help in any way. Sue of Jackson, MI February 9, 2006 Sue of Jackson MI (02/09/06) Corey of Ava, MO March 2, 2010 I purchased a Philips 42" 42PF9631D/37 18 months ago. Donald of Kapaa, HI March 1, 2010 I purchased a Phillips Model#42PF9431D137 Flatscreen TV from Costco about 3 years ago for 1200. It is so dark and fuzzy and so very frustrating to see all of this go out the window. Original cost was 1,861.87 on 2/25/06 Today's Date is 2/26/10 Tim of Chicago, IL February 26, 2010 Philips LCD TV fails to power on. I dont' want anything for free, but this was a high end product and price and 2.5 years on a 4000 dollar Tv seems to be an issue that I cannot contact a live person to talk about. randy of denton, TX February 26, 2010 i purchased a 50" rear projection high def.t.v. in 2003,i had problems as soon as i hooked up everything,it had spots on the screen,i called phillips, they told me this sometimes happens and will go away in approx.30-45 days,if not they will send out a tech.,they did and i watched him totally tear apart my brand new 1800.00 t.v. in my living room, this made me sick to my stomach to watch,he spent all day trying to find the problem, when he told me i dont know what's wrong and i am going to order these parts, when they come in i will be back,he called a few days later,he came back and worked a full day installing new parts, this did not fix the problem,he said and i quote this,im ready to just get you another one, then he took apart the screen saver and the screen and found some debris left between the screens from manufacturing, this repaired the problem, i purchased an extended warranty with the t.v.,and im glad i did, because in the middle of july 2004 the spots came back, and everything on the screen was outlined in blue,i called phillips again, they told me to call a local repair shop and the would repair it,i called them, they came to pick it up,when they were rolling it down my hallway out the door they were in a hurry, hitting things,i told them to slow down, this is not a 3.00 toy, please be careful, then they went off the porch with it and broke off a section of the rear wood casing,i told them thats enough,i will load it myself, you are not going to distroy my t.v.,the told me soory about that, then loaded on the truck, they brought it back on 7-28-2004,they told me they replaced to ic somethings, and it is fixed,i hooked everything up and the spots were gone but everything still had a blue outline and they did not bring back the correct remote control,i called them on this and they told me it is the correct remote and the blue outline is not there problem,i need to adjust the picture,i argued with them on the remote and offered to show them a picture of the one they took, they said no need to because i have the correct one,i finally just let it go,now i have been trying to contact philips with the numbers i have in the owners manual, they go to meet a woman in your area,i got on the web to find a number,i called phillips and the lady was rude and told me she could not help me,and im sorry but you bought a 1800.00 dollar piece of junk, this was today 2-25-2010,my problem now is one of the projectors had leaked out all the cooling fluid onto my floor, and inside the t.v.,i cleaned it up and used a wet vac to remove it from the circuit and p.c. boards of the t.v.,she told me these were not good quality units,i did a lot of research before i bought this one,at the time the flat screens were coming out and the ones i looked at were from 8000.00 to 10,000.00 dollars,so this projection t.v. with h.d. was the one to buy,and i would get 15-20 years of service from it.i realize it is 7 yrs. old now,but i have had 5 back surgeries in the past 6 yrs. and this t.v. has not been used a lot, after each surgery i was down for approx.4-8 months on each one,i take very good care of everything i own,im not rich by any means so i have to take cars of stuff,i treat this t.v. as if it is one of my children, and it looks as good today as it did when i purchased it. on the first page of the owners manual it state's,thank you for your confidence in philips,i have selected one of the best-built,best- backed, products available today and we will do everthing in our power to keep you happy with this purchase for many years to come.as a member of the philips "family",im intitled to protection by one of the most comprehensive warranties with outstanding service in the industry, sincerely -lawrence j.blanford, president and chief executive offer, quiet the sells pitch,i had to contact several repair shops to see what it wold take to repair it[due to the lady at philips electronics telling me she could not help and there is no one else i could talk to about this, just buy your self a new t.v.]the repair shop told me it will be about 700.00-800.00 dollars to rebuild the leaking projectors, and the cooling fluid is poison,[the lady at phillips did not bother to tell me this] and i have grand children at my house often as well as my to small inside pets, this does not set well with me, i spend my money wisely and try to buy the best i can afford,i now im stuck with an 1800.00 fish-tank,this is not right, and i will never buy another philips product again, and also i asked the lady at philips if they sold out,she told me no we did not,we are still the same company,i asked this because none of the phone numbers in my manual are philips electronics,so i asked 6 different repair shops about this, they told me they did sell-out and they will not help customers and a lot of shops will not work on there stuff because of this,so this leaves the buyer out in the cold, but philips has there money,i guess that is what matters to them, the numbers in my manual are,1-800-531-0039,1-800-952-3254,the model of my t.v. is, 50pp9202,sr.# 77377022,hope this helps buyers to beware of philips electronics, thank you.
