Panasonic Offers Replacement Lamps for Some LCD TVs

Jennifer of Joelton, TN October 15, 2009

The lamp went out, I have bought 2 replacement lamps from Gabe's electronics and Appliances the first I bought 6/28/07 receipt # 1116, then again on 07/16/08 receipt # 1889, the lamp has now gone out for a third time. I found out today 10/15/09 that there was a class action suit against panasonic on the PT5OLC13 HD tvs, I have tried to find info on this but was only sent to tvsettlement.com where the want you to pick your on lawyer to sue someone.

model -TH42PX50U serial - YP5630510. PLASMA TURNS OFF AND LED BLINKS 11 TIMES. This is the third time this has happened to my TV purchased 12/29/05. (Why does this always happen during a World Series or NFL game?)I returned the TV to the store where I purchased it and they subposidly repaired a fan? The TV was purchased at: ED's TV. This is NOT acceptable. This TV was 2,500 in year 2005 and not worth it. I need a resolution to my problem. I cannot keep getting up and unplugging/plugging in the TV. I have had an electrician out to my house and he found no prower problems (90 wasted), I purchased a UPS strip (60 wasted), 60 diagnostic test each time TV is brought in (wasted), not to mention the cost to fix the TV once they found the problem (wasted). I cannot keep repairing this TV. I would like this documented and I would like Panasonic to make good on this problem. I have read many power problems with this TV on google.

I see on the website that there was an extended warranty given to consumers who had purchased the Panasonic PT-50LC13. We never received any information on this, and we have replaced our lamp numerous times. The lamps never last anywhere near the 10,000 hours they are supposed to, they last usually on average 1 year. Which is rediculous considering they cost 250 to replace. With all of the replacement lamps we have purchased, we might as well have bought a new tv. We have tried purchasing lamps from a different website, but those only seemed to last about 3 months. Also, how come we were never aware of the extneded warranty that was given to people who had purchased their tv?

When purchased our first replacement bulb, we were told that was normal and we had no warning that this was the situation. Then less than 6 months we had the same issue needing a replacement bulb. These bulbs cost over 300.00 each time. We are now having to replace the bulb again a third time in less than a year. I went on line to see if I could purchase one cheaper and found the site where there were problems with some of the Panasonic TV'S so I checked to see if my TV was on the list and it is the PT-50LC3 one which is the one that has been reported with the most problems. We have spent over 600.00 on this TV for bulb replacement. The television itself is in great condition if the bulbs would actually last.

i bought a panasonic PT-44LCX65 and some green & red spots came on the screen about 11 months after i bought it. i called panasonic and they said it was the lamp bulb was probably going out and told me the store to buy the lamp for 350. so after about 5 months i purchased & replaced the lamp the results were the same. so i called panasonic back and they told me it had to be serviced so i paid another 200 for them to tell me that the protection module was bad and it would cost 1300 to repair.

I purchased a plasma tv TH-42PX60U on November 2006. A week before its one year anniversary the tv started showing red vertical lines which made it impossible to watch. After contacting the local authorized repair shop they came in and replaced the PDP panel with labor costs of 321. Less than a year after this by mid 2008 the tv set started acting up again with the same vertical lines. This time it took longer for the lines to impair viewing the tv. Now the repair company is estimating total repair costs to be 1,990 which is the same amount I originally paid for the set. The fact that these PDP panels have lasted for less than a year with very little use raises suspision about a defective design.

Bulb went out and Panasonic doesn't offer the replacement bulb, just the entire housing which cost 250+ No authorized service centers willing come do a house visit. Going to be out 4-5 hours of my time, tv out for a week, and out of pocket 250+

I own a Panasonic PT-50LC13, serial# B4AA10277. I have had numerous problems with the lamp. I was unaware of the class action lawsuit regarding the lamp. I contacted Panasonic over a year ago. They responded that I am not eligible for a replacement lamp because I had the store warranty which was still in effect. They also refused to grant me a rebate certificate. The television is once again not operating due to the defective lamp. I no longer am covered by the warranty. Do I have any recourse?

Shawn of Corvallis, OR September 14, 2009

I paid 1,200 for a panasonic TH-42PZ77U and about 14-16 months after purchase, the set simply stopped working and showed a sequence of 7 blinking red lights. This set saw very gentle and light use during the time it worked, and was a beautiful and enjoyable television. With no signs of any problems, it simply stopped working. A google search immediately returned websites dedicated to people who have this same problem. A large number of panasonic sets supposedly shipped with faulty components with no assistance provided by the manufacturer. I proceeded to call customer support on 9/14/09 and was told I was outside of warranty and that I would need to pay to have this set fixed. I was not given any estimate of cost. I was told I may appeal the company for assistance but I can only do that AFTER I pay a 3rd party money to "evaluate" my set. I'm grateful I searched the internet first, to find that many people are forced to pay hundreds of dollars before any parts and labor are considered. If this is the same for my case, it will cost over half as much as the new item costs, a complete waste of money. And people still report multiple failures even after being fixed. When questioned about this being a problem, the customer service rep quoted me only a 2% failure rate and said there were no class-actions or recalls on this model.

I purchased a Panasonic HDTV last year and the lamp ty-la1000 has burned out. I have checked the website and see it cost over 200 for a replacement. I also see where this is a known issue to Panasonic about this defective lamp. I now have no tv and no money to get the replacement part

I am stuck with a 1,000 tv that we can not use because the lamp is burned out. I am unemployed and can not even think about spending 200 for this replacement. What am I supposed to do with no tv. this has been a rip off if the company knew of this defect they should have pulled this product off the market. I do not know what to do.
