Consumer Complaints & Reviews

My 11-year old son saved his own money and bought a 19-inch Coby TV. Within three months, it stopped working. I emailed two letters with no response a month ago now. In my opinion, Coby should replace their garbage products without hassles and have a customer outlet in Canada to service there broken products. I'm sure it would be a busy place. Their customer service is garbage and anyone thinking of buying a Coby product, don't bother. You'll get three months' use and that's about all.

Within 3 months of having a 32 Inch brand new LCD TV, the remote control completely stopped working. I contacted Coby, and they were very rude to me. They would not help me. The customer service rep, Robert, spoke to me as if I was ignorant. The supervisor Miguel lied to me, and then afterwards would not take my calls. After I had my receipt, I was told that I then had to type a letter, print it, and fax it over, along with my receipt. I then had to call the customer service manager Kate, to try and have this issue handled properly. I faxed all of the required information today, and who knows if it will get replaced. I will never buy a Coby product again. They need to replace the defective remote.

I purchased a 23-inch TV in May. I did not open the box until late September. The TV worked properly for exactly 4 days. Then it finally died completely in early November. I literally did not get 12 days of viewing before this junk failed. Fry's electronic and Coby had a 90-day warranty. The bottom line is, I am **. Not only will I not buy another Coby brand of anything, but I also will not make any major purchases from Fry's. They are just as culpable in that they must know this brand is a junk and they continue to sell it. This will never happen again.

I received a digital photo keychain, product ID DP151, as a gift for my 8-year-old daughter. I selected dozens of photos to load on it, but when I plugged it into my PC, the device did not activate. I called the so-called customer service line and received a message that all representatives were busy, and that I should hang up and call back later. I called back 3 times and gave up. Mr. Young Dong Lee, owner of IMHO, should be ashamed of himself for marketing such a worthless product, and for having even worse customer service. Maybe he should give one of these items to his own daughter, so he can watch her be disappointed.

I purchased an mp3 player at the end of July. It finally shipped at the end of August. It lasted for 3 weeks before the screen went fuzzy and the battery stopped charging. I had to pay $12 for the return and replacement shipping. The replacement lasted less than 2 weeks when the power button stopped working. They were going to charge me again for the replacement. I told them where to go and bought another mp3 from another company.

So, we got a 27-inch (so-called HD) TV from Coby, big mistake. The scanning for TV channels literally takes 45 minutes compared to the average 5 minutes for my other TVs. And the remote that comes with it doesn't even really work. Only half the buttons are useful and when you press the volume button, the volume goes up by random numbers, example: 7,9,10,12,14,15,17.20. **? And don't get me started on the "HD". You have to switch to HD from standard def. which takes like 15 seconds and you have to press the channel changer button like 5 times before the HD channel changes. The picture isn't bad at all, except for the closed captions at the bottom of the screen that never go away.

Now back to standard def. The picture for standard def. is bad. It's sort of grainy and not that colorful. Wow, this TV **. And if you leave the TV plugged into the DC adapter for to long (yes, it has a DC adapter for some reason), the TV like breaks and you have to unplug it for 2 minutes and plug it back in in order for it to turn on. I asked my dad to return the TV and get a new one, but he's a ** so he won't. I'm just gonna have to save up and buy a decent TV. Stay away from Coby Electronics!

Beware! Do not buy Product #TFTV3225 (32" flat screen television). I purchase the TV from BrandMarts and immediately had issue with the product. I returned the TV and they gave me a new one. Now exactly 90 days later, the TV has a shortage, turns on and off when it wants to and the picture gets all fuzzy when we are in the middle of watching something. I called the warranty department and they are willing to send out a new one. However, I am responsible for shipping costs. I must pay for shipping to them and send them a money order to cover shipping for them to send me out a new TV. Also, I must include the receipt. Seriously, who keeps a receipt (the warranty is good for a year). They are full of it! You get what you pay for!

Worst service ever. I had to return a DVD player that malfunctioned under a year and sent it back to them. I am still waiting over 3 months to get a new one. I spoke with the executive team member Kate. She advised that she was now not sending another one because they had no record of receiving the previous one. Keep in mind that I called previously and the Coby consultant advised that they had received it and were just waiting for stock to send me another one. I was very frustrated and Kate was the least bit concerned about customer service. I was basically pleading for her support to get my four-year old DVD player. When I asked to escalate, she mentioned that she was the escalation point and I could not speak with anyone else. When she disconnected, she called me a "** head" as she probably thought that the phone disconnected.

This was very clear and the words could not have been mistaken for any other ones. I have tried to leave messages for the VP, but they have not called me back. There is no one there that cares about customers. Take it from me.

I also had a problem with my Coby TV. The picture is blank and I was told "too bad it's out of warranty". It will probably cost more to repair than what I paid for it. I concur "do not buy Coby products". Spend the extra money for a quality set. I wish those that work at Coby the best of luck, because I can see what will happen next once people see the quality and no longer buy their products. Start updating your resumes.

I sent 3 E Mails to Coby regarding an MP4 I bought when on holiday in Florida in Decr. 09. All of a sudden a few weeks ago it stopped charging and died. On the third E Mail they decided to give me the courtesy of a reply which did not even answer the question. They implied I must have broken it and I should pay, and said all their products only have a 90 day warranty. In other words, do not expect their product to last longer tthan 90 days. Never buy from this Company. They have really bad tech support and their customer service is nil.

I received a letter about a recall on the battery for Coby Model TF-DVD 8501 DVD/CD/MP3 Player. Apparently the battery heats up and can cause a fire. The battery pack must have a serial number beginning with HY. I checked my battery and immediately took it out because it started with HY. I then called the customer service number and was told I would get a replacement battery and would also get a mailer to return the old battery. I subsequently called two more times and was told the battery was mailed on Feb. 10. I still have not received the battery and am wondering if they are sending them out as they said in their letter of 12-31-09. I just called today and made another request with someone called Ortega or so he said. There is no damage since I removed the battery in question but would like to receive the battery that I was told I would receive per their recall letter.

I bought one of the digital key chains. After following directions the software didn't come up when you try to open it. Without the software program you can't upload any pictures. When I went into Coby's home web site I found the download and the same thing happens. I had bought it twice at two different stores and both were defective. I tried to get this thing to work on "windows 2000" as well as "windows XP".

Last summer, I purchased a COBY 20 GB "touch" Video/MP3 player for around $200. I was exactly happy with it, seeing as it didn't play any videos like it said, but I decided to keep it anyway rather than return it to the store. This turned out to be a huge mistake. After dealing with their company for the past few months, I've come to learn how disapointing both COBY's products and customer service are.

I returned said mp3 player to the company because it was still under warranty when it crashed and wouldn't turn on again. According to all of their sources (website, CS Rep, warranty card) this would only take 6-8 weeks to ship after the product was sent back. After 3 separate phone calls (total time on the phone was no less than 1 1/2 hrs combined) I was told that they wouldn't be able to ship that exact product for another couple months. Why should I have to call and go through a ridiculous amount of time on the phone to find that out, first of all? COBY company should have contacted ME if that was the case. I told them that would be unacceptable because my husband is in the military and we will be leaving the country in February and I want it before then. Besides, the time had already passed in which the company stated it would ship me an mp3 player. So, the CSR said he would ship out a "comparable or better" mp3 player. Fine. As a replacement, I received a PMP3520.

At first glance, I was pretty impressed with the product. It LOOKED good. But it is a complete piece of crap, which they should be embarrassed to have in its product line. In theory, this product will store 10,000 songs. On the condition that they fit in 25 folders and the file names are no longer than 14 characters. That is ridiculous. I would spend HOURS and HOURS re-naming all of my files and then consolidating them into 25 folders. That is completely unreasonable. Besides, most of the files I transferred into the player that fit these requirement STILL didn't play. Its basically unusable.

I'm certain that no one in the USA even looked at this product after it came in from China. There's even a typo in the menu where you set the date that says "Day, MOUTH, Year"...I would think any company would be EMBARRASSED by this product. Also, I just noticed a warning that this product's cord contains lead. Based on that fact alone, I believe that I should be allowed to return the product. I called yesterday and asked for a refund. They refused, so I asked for an exchange. I would have been satisfied with the original model mp3 player I returned. Apparently, their corporate offices don't agree. Which is understandable.

If I worked for a company that is destined for bankruptcy and lawsuits, I'd be stingy, too. I've gotten no where with them and I've decided to turn to other means to help get my money back. Please contact me if there is an existing class action lawsuit against COBY that I may be a part of. They should not even be in business.

I bougth a coby DVD player model DVD-508. I did not use it often beacuse it was in my bedroom an our familyroom is where I usually wacth TV. The DVD player started opening and closing the dvd door on its own, it stops playing movies on its on and it turns it self off and on. This started happening about four month after I bougth the product so the company says its out of warranty beacuse the warranty is only for 3 months. I feel that the warranty of this company is a rip-off and I am writting beacuse I am sure that I am not the only custumer that this has happend to. There custumer support was not help since I am beyond my 3 month warranty.
