American Women Health Club

Stephanie of Denardo, NJ (11/15/05)
I joined this gym on a month-to-month basis, paying a significantly higher monthly fee so I wouldn't have to sign an annual contract. I was told, and it was in my contract, to give a 60-day notice to cancel my agreement.

I knew exactly when I was not going to be able to use their facilities anymore, so I wrote a letter to cancel my membership. I asked for the corporate phone number so I could confirm receipt of my letter but my local gym said I could not contact that facility by phone, I could only write them a letter.

I sent two letters to them, one in the end of June and one at the beginning of August. I did not hear or receive anything from the facilities so I put a stop payment on my checking account. Then I receive a letter stating my account will be turned over to a collection agency if I did not pay $149.98 to the facilities.

After an argument with a rep I finally got one month removed, but I'm still left with a balance of $89.99, plus $30 for payment being sent back.
