Credit Card Monkey Business

Thomas of Attleboro MA (1/22/02):
I placed an order for an electric toothbrush I saw on a TV infomercial and paid for it with my credit card over a year ago. Recently I noticed that they started repeatedly charging me $4.95 for no apparent reason. I tried to contact them but cannot get through. So I decided to close the account that they were withdrawing from. When I got to the bank to close the account, I discovered that they had with drawn an additional $79.

To date I’m out of at least $100 just in unexplained charges. Additionally the bank would not let me close the account because of the recent activity on the account. With the account still open and a zero balance, the charges then pulled the funds from the overdraft protection incurring another charge and because the account could not be closed in time I have incurred the monthly charge for having the account.

Bill of Roberts WI (1/9/02):
We ordered a Robert Urich-endorsed Cybersonic Toothbrush by calling the 1-800 listed at the end of the infomercial. We paid for this by credit card. Now, to make a long, long story short we were sent two and only ordered one. We tried to get them to credit our account to no avail.

It was quite obvious they had NO intention of refunding our money/crediting our account. Their game is to continue to tell you they're going credit your account, but never do! Don't play their game. They will not refund your money. If you paid by credit card, dispute the charge. You only have so many days to do so, and it's your only chance. Good luck!

Teresa of Oakley CA (1/8/02):
After viewing a Cybersonic Toothcare System infomercial, I purchased, largely because the actor Robert Urich repreesented the system. I "trusted" the offer? The date was, June 11, 2001, when I made my purchase of The Cybersonic Toothcare System, INCLUDING a quarterly delivery package of replacement brushes and whitening gel, at the cost of $15.63, to be debited to my Visa card every 3 months.

Today is January 8, 2002, and I have ONLY received 1 (one) package of refill brushes/gel, for which my Visa was debited in Sept. of 2001. I have no objection to the Sept. debit. YET, my VISA card has been debited a total of 3 (three) times!! First, being the Sept. debit. The next two, October 2001 and December 2001 I am VERY much disputing, and yet, each time I have attempted to contact this company, I am sent confirming e-mails, that I should allow 5-7 days for delivery AND was even given a tracking number that was NOT even close to what the tracking number per the tracking web site called for.

I am FURIOUS and even went so far as to email Mr. Urich himself, yet I have come to doubt that his email address supplied is fictitious?

Renee of Arcadia CA (12/7/01):
I ordered the Cybersonic toothbrush off an infomercial for $99.99. I was asked if I wanted to pay an extra $5.00 every 3 months for replacement brushes. I responded by telling the sales rep NO, all I wanted to purchase was the toothbrush for $99.99 only. I received the toothbrush in a timely basis.

When I received my first credit card bill there was a charge for $19.95 and another unknow charge for $100.00. I called the telephone number associated with the $100.00 charge and was told that since I orderd something from a infomercial that they received my credit card information and was charging me for a product they were offering. I have never in my life ever ordered anything from an infomercial except the cybersonic toothbrush.

The person I was speaking with from the company that was charging me the extra $100.00 said that since I ordered something off the TV that they were legally allowed to charge me this extra charge. Yet I never received anything from this unknown company or would I ever have if I didn't call and have them take it off. Since this extra charge I have tried call the cybersonic people to give them a peice of my mind and all I ever received was a busy signal. Then I tried to contact them by e-mail and never received a call back even after threataning to file a suit of action.

Now, this month when I received my credit card bill with my final $19.95 charge there was an additional charge of $5.02 for replacement toothbrushes. After I initially spoke with the sales rep and told him that all I wanted to purchase was the toothbrush, here I am being charged for replacement toothbrushes as well as an unknow suspicious charge of $100.00 related to ordering the toothbrush. This company is trying to get away with charging me over $200.00 for a darn toothbrush that I don't even like.
