Melissa of Richmond writes (1/19/03):
I grew up going to Ukrops with my mother and now as an adult with my own children. I can not say enough about this store. The staff is friendly and courteous, the stores are always spotless, the produce is fresh and the bakery is out of this world. My husband had a job opportunity back in his hometown in Fairfax and I can truly say that one of the big deciding factors was that there was not a Ukrops. I have four small children and I don't know how I would safely get my groceries out to the car without my faithful Ukrops baggers. Ukrops stands head and shoulders above their competition. It is one of the big things that makes Richmond such a great place to live.

Everything said about customer service is correct. Plus, my daughter was a bagger there for 3 years. They treated her fairly, gave her some wonderful benefits, and even provided her with $6,000 in scholarship money. They are an outstanding business not only in what they provide customers, but how they treat employees.

I would be absolutely shocked if you received a single negative comment about Ukrops. I moved to VA from NJ 10 yrs ago, and was amazed at Ukrops' level of customer service & friendliness. They knock themselves out to serve you, take groceries to your car cheerfully (no tips allowed), offer the finest fresh meats, fish & produce I've ever seen, and I just can't say enough about them. I often say we couldn't move from Richmond, as I'd go thru withdrawal without a Ukrops. My husband thinks they should be the subject of a Harvard Business School review, as an example of how to run the best customer-oriented business possible. They are the best!
Another Joanne confirms Joanne's fears:
I have not lived in the Richmond area for 5 years now, and I miss Ukrops more than anything. I have been all across this country in the last 5 years and I have not yet seen a store as good as Ukrops. They have the best customer service and good prices and great quality. I would highly recommend this store to everyone. I wish there was one where I live now.
Connie (12/20/02):
While on vacation, I was delighted to see this Richmond-based supermarket also at Williamsburg. UKROPS is the finest supermarket I have ever used, and the new store was no exception. Service and merchandise were wonderful. I'd give anything if we could have one in the Washington, DC area. When I visit Richmond, I always make a point to stop at Ukrops!
Dawna writes (4/5/01):
Excellent selection of everyday and specialty items, both in "raw" and prepared forms. Deli foods are all properly prepared; no "diner" overcooked and oversalted dinners here. Prices are reasonable. Most importantly, customer service is outstanding. It can literally make my day to go through the line after work. Cashiers and baggers are cheerful, helpful, fast, they volunteer assistance with replacing damaged items and carting your groceries to your car, they don't ask invasive questions about your life or your purchases, and the entire experience is predictable from person to person and store to store. In addition, the stores are well-lit, logically laid-out, spacious, and appealing.
Diane writes (10/7/00):
Great service. The employees are always friendly and polite no matter how busy the store happens to be. I enjoy shopping at Ukrops because they have everything. Their deli is outstanding and their baked goods are heavenly. I drive about 40 minutes to get to this store because it is the one nearest to my home. I wouldn't drive that far if it wasn't worth it.

Christian values in action: wonderful, friendly service, understanding and patient with the elderly, provide jobs for the handicapped, contribute to our community; work very hard at every level to insure satisfaction.
David writes:
Honest thoughtful service. They are not trying to get over on anyone. They provide quality products (mostly higher quality than any other store in the area) at a fair price, and are very active in the community. They have been known to go on a customer's word. When a customer doesn't have enough money for the groceries, they will often times let the customer take the groceries with their word that they will pay what is owed the next time they come in. I imagine that they have had very little trouble with this policy.
The fact that they trust their customers makes their customers trust them. They are very well thought of around here.
Donna writes (8/1/00):
They know what customer service is all about, and how to build confidence with their customers. The comments in the previous note about trusting the customer to bring in the amout owed is true. Has happened to me, and also forgot check book one day. I was allowed to take groceries home and bring check back. They smile, they say thank you, they answer questions, special request...and on and on and on....this is a great store and a respected member of our community.
