Simmons Mattresses

Brian of Wahpeton ND (03/10/09)
I complained about the depressions on my Simmons Beautyrest mattress and I had not even had it one year! They sent me a packet told me to measure the depressions and take pictures, then they would decide! I called and said that was ridiculous and they said the could send out a representative, but that would cost me an additional 35.00 service call. If I did get granted another mattress, I would have to bring this one back to the store and pick up a comparable one.

Back problems and uncomfortable to sleep on

Dee of Albany, NY February 19, 2009

Dee of Albany NY (02/19/09)
After 2 months of Chiropractic visits for back problems, I decided to purchase a new mattress and spend 1,100.00 which I thought was a significant amount of money to get a Good mattress. In August 2005, I purchased a new king size Back Care mattress by Simmons, which the saleman told me was the Cadillac of mattress'. It seemed like a good mattress, but that was only for the first year. Unfortunately, I had misplaced my receipt so couldn't do anything about it. I tried to use the bed, but by 2008, I could no longer sleep in it. I have been using my daughters bed and sleeping just fine.

To my surprise, I found the receipt and contacted Simmons who referred me to the place of purchase. On Saturday, February 14, the bedding manager came to check the mattress. His immediate reaction was Oh, I see what you mean. However, he informed me that since there was a 2 inch stain (my daughter had a bloody nose) near the top of the mattress, the warranty was VOID. How can a 2 inch stain near the top of the mattress have anything to do with the integrity of the mattress? The entire center of the mattress is sinking and distorted. I have not slept in the bed and cannot sleep in the bed because of my back.

After a call to Fran at Simmons customer service (customer service....that's a joke) , all I was told is a stain negates the warranty. All I wanted was an explanation of what a stain has to do with the quality of their product. She then referred me back to the retailer who will refer me back to the company and so on and so on. Apparently it's my fault that the mattress is [bad]! So beware when you purchase your next Simmons mattress. Wrap it in plastic and put it on display somewhere. Don't sleep on it and definetely don't get a stain on it.

Simmons is impossible to work with, we tried to get another replacement, they refused us and being I have such a bad back, the first replacment has made by back worse. We all need to do something and quick. Simmons was an account my spouse had at work, and they were impossible to deal with, extremely rude and so on, just they way they were with me on the phone.

If you look at your website here under Simmons, Sealy and Serta Mattress companys you will find many complaints. Those complaints as well as mine involve sagging and non-action by the 3 companies involving warranty claims. They all seem to follow the same pattern and I would wonder if they are in collusion with each other. They all use the same tactics to get out of their full replacement warranty. I also understand (from a local mattress store owner) that some of the mattress companies have such a bad product that they are going to one year warranties. Additionally during the 20 years he has owned the store prices have stayed the same and the product has gotten cheaper.

Mattresses are a huge expense and people can't afford to replace every year. They also are a large health problem with back problems etc. I would hope that if you put my complaint on your site, that you would do with all 3 companies and ask that those complaintants go to the FTC website and file a complaint there also.

Their actions are costing the public and medical insurance companies untold sums and suffering for the damage they are doing to backs and the spine. The result is the consumer is back to replacing the product and usually only has a choice between the 3 companies which results in more financial burden. Incidentally these faulty mattresses are often in the 1000 to 4000 price range. I would think that a class action suit would be in order.
