Cheryl of Howell MI (01/20/09) After paying on a television for over 2 years I lost my job and there is no way I am going to give this back to them after paying over 4000.00 and just walk away. I call and asked if I could delay a couple payments and was told no and they said they would come pick the tv up and all would be forgotten. Bull you are not coming in my house and they said they would get the Police. So after paying that much money I am suppose to give it back and walk away with nothing?
I have no job no money coming in because there are no jobs out there it is bad enough to try to keep your home and the heat and lights on and you have to deal with these idots. Also they have your debit card number on file and take the payment out without even knowing if the funds are there (not legal to have this on file where anyone in the store can access this) I understand they are there to help in a pinch but to rip people off is wrong. Never again will I rent anything from them.
I have had to sell my diamonds and other household good just to pay them because I refuse to lose the 4000.00 I have paid them. Ginger of Madison Heights, MI January 17, 2009
Ginger of Madison Heights MI (01/17/09) I have never rented to own prior to this experience. I never HAD to rent to own and I still don't, however, I felt that renting to own would be much easier for the big purchases rather than saving for a few weeks. I now believe that saving is all the well worth it. The customer service is absolutely unacceptable. If you are even one day late on your payment, they will call your telephone number that you had provided around 8 times a day. This statement is not exaggerated. Sometimes they will call you almost every hour. They will also call your place of employment a few times as well.
Thankfully, I am a manager and I happen to screen the calls at my place of work. If this occurs at a place that you are unable to have personal phone calls, this may be a problem for you. The voice mails that they leave are quite intimidating. They are very rude when they leave their short lecture. I have never had a vehicle financing, credit card company, or rental property ever use the tone or rude lecture that I have experienced with this company no matter HOW many days that I happen to be late (let alone only ONE day late). They are also rude when they deliver your item to your house as well.
The cost is also not worth it. I opted to rent a PS3. After reading my contract, I quickly returned it and bought my own PS3 one week later. PS3's can be purchased through Best Buy at around 399.00. The cash price at Rent-A-Center is 831.74. You have three months to pay 831.74. If you do not pay this amount within 3 months, you will continue doing payments. At the end of these payments, you will have paid 1,663.48 for a PS3. I could have bought almost 4 PS3's with this amount. The hassle that you receive at this company and the amount that you pay for these items are outrageous!!! I will never choose to rent to own ever again.
Christine of Port Saint Lucie, FL January 16, 2009
Christine of Port Saint Lucie FL (01/16/09) I went to store to get bedroom set, at that time there was a different store manager named lewis, he did not have the king size frame that we wanted but had the rest of the furniture for the set. he said that he would order the frame for us. They delivered the rest of the bedroom set, gave us a contract, which we signed and said that as soon as the bedframe came in they would deliver it. The bed frame was delivered to us approx 6 weeks later. In the meantime we continued to pay our rental fee.
We ended up in financial trouble and they came and took the bedroom furniture on 1/12/09. When i called to find out how much we had to give them to get the furniture back, i was told by Mark a differnt amount for the weekly rental rate. the contract that we signed was for 16.02 a week and he said that the contract that was in his systme was 47.50 a week. I said that is not what my contract says, he proceeded to tell me that my contract was cancelled in their system and they created a new one. I told him that he couldn't do that and he said yes he could. I demanded a copy of this so called new agreement that shows our signature and he says he can't find it. I told him that what they did was illegal and he brushed me off and told me to talk to his district manager Chip.
When Chip returned my call yesterday he told me that he was not going to show me any of the papers and that they had the furnture and if I wanted it back, I would have to sign a new agreement for the 47.50 a week. I asked him for the name of his supervisor he told me Anthony Vasquez who is the Regional Manger. I called the customer service line 1/15/08 and requested that he call me back. When i called customer service again this morning i was told that he has 24 hours to call me back and then she hung up on me.
i have also placed a call to the board of directors and the president of Colortyme, R.Bloom who has not called me back either. Now they have the furniture and illegally negated my original contract. What options do I have? I have no bedroom furniture and I am sleeping on the floor of my bedroom. I have spent alot of hours trying to get an answer and no one will return my call. Tonya of Pontiac, MI January 7, 2009
Tonya of Pontiac MI (01/07/09) made arrangements for a monday. didnt make it figured store was closed would go in the next day. Got a call that Monday night at 704. It was the manager calling from a number that didnt come up in my caller id. I answered it it was the manager on HIS personal cell phone. I was mortified. Isnt that some type of violation? he doesnt own his own business why is my confidental tele number in his personal phone? Wow. the harrasment is unbearable.
He then said he could call me that late ask his supervisor. What a joke!! I was gonna purchase the Fridge and the dryer at income tax time but now im gonna use it and return it the end of this month and cash out on new merchandise far away from rent a center. Also had a bad encounter at the store up the street on Elizabeth lake rd. that said i rented something previously that i hadnt paid for. when i denied it the rep looked at me and said i cant help you without even checking it out. How offensive.

Ayanna of Montgomery AL (01/03/09) They have very rude employees that work there.I recently rented a tv from them and I missed one payment on time. The employee that worked there called me every hour on the hour harassing me on my job, at my inlaws and everywhere else that she felt she could get in touch with me.After their attempts failed they came to my house and beat on my doors, on my bedrooms windows very loudly. They hollered and said obscene things from the outside.I felt like that was unprofessional of them.
I have been a very good customer to them and I didn't appreciate the way that they handled the situation.I contacted the store manager and he basically told me that it was my fault and that I should have came to the door, but honestly who wants to go to a door at 8 in the morning and someone beating on your door like they are crazy.I know that I should have opened the door, but I was very pissed off because I felt like they was trying to intimidate me.They scared my kids by knocking so hardly on the windows and also disturbed my neighbors.I turned the TV back in to them and I vowed that I'll never do business with them anymore because they don't act tactful. If this was my business I wouldn't want nobody working for me who behaves the way they did.
