Hampton Bay Patio Furniture

Hampton Bay Furniture, sold by Home Depot stores, is manufactured by JRA Furniture, headquartered in Cerritos, Calif., which proudly boasts that its furniture is made in "factories throughout Asia." Yes, and we can think of many consumers who would have been happier if JRA's glass=top tables had stayed in Asia.

Besides Hampton Bay, JRA's glass-top tables are sold under a number of brand names, the most notorious being Martha Stewart. Her line of patio furniture, sold by Kmart, has produced an explosion of complaints from consumers about its nasty habit of exploding all over their patios and decks.

See Sounds of Summer: Martha Stewart Tables Shattering for all the gory details.

Diana of New Rochelle NY (08/03/06)
I purchased a Hampton Bay 7 piece Sydney Dining Patio Set. Model No. 732-721. Purchased March 2006. The table has been set up since May 2006 on the patio. It's now July 2006 and came home to find the glass shattered in tiny pieces. Looked like a explosion hit the table.

Bob of Marble Falls TX (08/01/06)
The glass top to the Hampton Bay Lasserre Table exploded. I was looking outside when it happened. There was no one or anything at the table at the time. The glass was crackling in the sun for about 5 minutes, and finally crumbled into pea sized pieces of glass, with smaller chards.

Upon cleaning the mess up, I discovered shards of glass in the chair fabric. I discovered this because I had a cut on my leg after sitting in one of the chairs. The chairs were under the table when it exploded. The 7 piece set (6 chairs and a table) cost 500.

We purchased a table and 6 chairs for our back yard last summer. The 1st of July, we were in the house when we heard a loud noise. Our glass top table had shattered into millions of pieces. Luckily, no one was near the table when it happened.

We are out 349 for the table

John of East Brunswick, NJ July 24, 2006

John of East Brunswick NJ (07/24/06)
The glass top on my patio table purchased from Home Depot under the Hampton Bay brand name shattered in less than 1 year. I called HD and they sent me to JRA. JRA said the glass was not covered under warranty but offered to replace for free with a 120 shipping charge.

Cindy of Cumming, GA July 20, 2006

Cindy of Cumming GA (07/20/06)
I called JRA customer service and talked to Ervin. I was able to give him the information off my receipt from Home Depot and he looked up the set I have. He then told me that model and any parts for it were no longer available. I expressed my concern about the tables glass exploding for no apparent reason. I ask if he had heard of this and he said no, they have had no problems like this.

I pressed him further asking are you sure? He then admitted that extreme windstorms could cause this. I told him it happened to us on a clear sunny day. Check the weather where I live, we are in a drought!

I then expressed my concern that had anyone been closer to this when this happened they could have been seriously injured! It could have been quite serious if a child had been seated at the table at the time. I believe it could have resulted in serious eye injuries. I told him these tables should be recalled before someone is seriously injured. Ervin just said there was nothing he could do. I did not even get a we are sorry this happened. Worst customer service I have ever dealt with.

I expected this set to last alot longer than it did. I took excellent care of it. I am now going to be forced to pay an outrageous amount to get a new glass custom made to replace the one that burst or buy a whole new patio set.
