Hampton Bay Patio Furniture

Hampton Bay Furniture, sold by Home Depot stores, is manufactured by JRA Furniture, headquartered in Cerritos, Calif., which proudly boasts that its furniture is made in "factories throughout Asia." Yes, and we can think of many consumers who would have been happier if JRA's glass=top tables had stayed in Asia.

Besides Hampton Bay, JRA's glass-top tables are sold under a number of brand names, the most notorious being Martha Stewart. Her line of patio furniture, sold by Kmart, has produced an explosion of complaints from consumers about its nasty habit of exploding all over their patios and decks.

See Sounds of Summer: Martha Stewart Tables Shattering for all the gory details.

Hampton Bay Patio Set table glass shattered into many pieces. Very difficult to clean up. Very dangerous situation.

Loss of use of the table. Must n ow find a way to replace it. Probably have experienced a loss of 200-300.

Muriel of Kearneysville WV (08/28/08)
We bought a 3piece patio set at Home Depot at the beginning of the summer. Several weeks ago while I was setting in the chair the chair broke causing me to fall sideways. I didn't hurt myself, but certainly gave me a scare. My husband and I checked the chair, where it was welded is where it came apart (3 out of the 4 legs). I weigh 160# which is well within the weight limit. We went back down to Home Depot to see if they had any others, if they had we were going to talk to the manager, but there were none out. We did explain the situation to a clerk who was in the area, but I didn't get his name. He was very polite but that doesn't help us out.

We now have a 2 piece table set. So one of us sets at the table the other sets at the matching glider that we also bought at the same time.

We also purchased a Hampton Bay Kampar dining set this summer from Home Depot. Two days after purchasing it, the glass shattered in a thousand pieces all over our deck. We were home when it happened and heard a loud noise, but have no idea what caused it to shatter. It was a nice, sunny day with absolutely no wind. We called Home Depot and were told we would have to deal with the manufacturer so my husband asked to speak with a manager and we were told we could come in and get the glass out of the display. So far so good with the new glass.

One Sunday morning the glass on our patio table (Sydney collection) shattered into many small pieces. This was devastating as the set was less than a year old. To replace the glass is 230 which is about half the cost of the 8 piece patio set. I was online looking for another table, and now I'm just reading the reviews about the default in the product. What can we do about it? Apparently this is more than just a coincidence.

No one was around when it shattered. A neighbor did see it shatter and called my in-laws who live across the street. We're thankful it didn't cause any harm but I would like another patio table, preferably with no glass.
