St. Raymond Cemetery

Bronx, NY

Reuben of Bronx NY (10/23/04): I bought a plot for over $4,000.00 for recently deceased mother and paid $55.00 "application form" for the right to put a flat headstone. As per instructions, I took the burial deed into office of cemetery and was told that "the monumnent company was supposed to present articles and deed to cemetery." I explained that I decided to bring deed and papers in person as they may have gotten lost in the mail, in which case the cemetery would provide NO copy of deed. For this we, my father and I were chastised by the employee who than started nitpicking concerning the designs of flat marker asking questios such as "what size is the angel? the miraculous medal? the small cross?"

All this information she could have gotten from a) reading the printout of what the headstone would look like and b) contacting Precious Monument Co. In my opinion Precious Monument has been more than nice with this cemetery office worker and so have we, but it seems as if the more we comply, the more we are verbally abused.

My mother passed on 8/14/2003, the night of the blackout. She was a saint and all her life strived to help her fellow man, yet today for whatever reason she has no headstone. She and we deserve to be treated as humans by this cemetery. I have contacted the NY Archdiocese also because I firmly believe that because of our Hispanic roots we are being treated like 2nd class citizens.
