Inglewood Park Cemetery

Inglewood, CA

Jo Ann of Los Angeles (1/24/04):
I purchased a pre-need agreement in July of 1990 for my grandmother and mother. I bought a double crypt, opening and closing of the crypts and 2 name plates to go on the crypts.

My grandmother died Sept. 10, 1990 and another contract was written up. This now I find out is called the "immediate need" contract. Everything was paid for and I did not hear that anything was wrong with the contracts until my mother died Dec. 6, 2003. I was then told that the original pre-need contract was no longer any good since it was canceled when my grandmother died in 1990.

I have the contracts and the deed to the crypts! I was told by two of their counselers that I could not bury my mother until I paid for the opening and closing again at the 2003 rate. I paid it ($485) so that my mother could have a proper burial. I then called Mr. Simms to schedule an appointment to get this worked out. We had a meeting the day after my mother's funeral, Dec.12, and he told me that he would do the right thing and get back with me in a couple of days. I have yet to hear from Mr. Simms or anyone from Inglewood cemetary. I have received no letter, nothing.

I want Inglewood to honor the original pre-need contract and give me my $485.00 back! I have not been able to move on. I cannot sleep behind this. I do not have the funds to buy another name plate for my mother. At today's price the marker will cost $600-$800.

I had to borrow the extra money to bury my mother, and she has no nameplate on the crypt. I cannot afford and shouldnot have to pay for it again, since it was paid for in 1990.

They are selling these preneed contracts at an alarming rate, but when the time comes for them to honor them (at the death of a loved one) they come up with some excuse to make you go into your pocket and give them more money.
