Funeral Merchandise

2320 "J" St.
Sacramento, Ca 95814

Ilene of Sacramento writes (10/2/01):
On 22 Dec. 2000, my family ordered a light gray grante headstone/monument with dark black inlay on the name and design for my sister April. We were promised a delivery date which didn't come true and when they delivered the word "daughter" was misspelled.

It was reordered and we received something entirely different from what we ordered. We received a black headstone with black lettering. The picture which we paid extra for was cracked/jagged as if it was taken off the first headstone and put on the second. The craftsmanship was very poor.

On the show room floor was a light gray grante headstone with dark black lettering, polished/velvet and that was what we asked for. We received a dark gray (as Funeral Merchandise calls it) headstone with black lettering. You can hardly see the lettering and it's not polished/velvet.

Jeff at Funeral Merchandise stated that this is now the standard gray color (but it wasn't when we ordered it) and this is not what we ordered. Funeral Merchandise said they will not give us the light gray because they would have to order us a new headstone and they will not do that because they would have to eat the cost. But they did promise to correct the craftsmanship on the picture, lighten the lettering/design with white and polish the stone. But they have made several promises and have not corrected anything.

This last promise was supposed to be done by 1 Oct. 2001 and is not. I personally have made more than 12 calls in which I have documented and my mother and father have made at least a half dozen calls and nothing is getting accomplished. We are now several months into this and I feel we need your help in putting a closure to this grieving process. I feel that we should get a light gray grante headstone with dark black in the lettering and design and a good picture of my sister on it which is what we paid for.

The metal anguish and the fact my mother cries when she see this headstone angers my family. We have had several friends comment on how bad the craftsmanship is
