Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I went to Applebee's in Jenkintown, PA on 05-07-12 as part of a fundraiser for my school. I ordered a cheeseburger and I wanted it well done. The burger was pink inside and the fries that came with the burger were cold. My grandmother ordered a burger as well and it fell apart when she picked it up as if someone poured water on it. My grandfather ordered ribs.

A few minutes later, a man came out and said "What did you order? We have no more ribs." My grandfather was upset because he only went to have the ribs. A guy came out a few minutes later and threw a menu on the table and said, "Order something else." The food was terrible and the service was worse. Even for fundraising efforts for my school, I will not be dining at Applebee's ever again.

I went to the Applebee's on Memorial Dr. in Decatur on 01/27/2012, Friday night. Take out, I ordered the under 500 calories steak and shrimp, and the chicken and mushroom with potatoes. First, I waited a very long time for the food. The cashier kept apologizing saying they were fine, but when the food finally came, the shrimp looked like a kid's meal. The shrimp looked like salad shrimp and the steak looked like a piece of chicken, and OMG the chicken, the mushrooms on top I could not tell what they were. It looked more like burnt cheese and it was burnt as well. There were only three potatoes in the box.

The manager came. When I showed the meals to him, he really said it was because of the food being in the carry out containers is the reason he gave me for it looking disgusting. I asked for my money back but because I used a gift card, I could not get a refund. I felt like I was being forced to eat something I was totally not pleased with. He took my address and number and said I should get another gift card in the mail, but that has not happened yet nor has anyone called me like he also stated would happen. With or without a gift card, I will never go there again. Never had that happened at any other location.

I walked into Applebee's for dinner, this was after 6:00PM. No customers, staff outside at a staff meeting. A young man greeted us, we chose to sit at the bar. I ordered a glass of red wine. All they had was a cheap house red wine, Gallo Rossi. My husband ordered a club sandwich, I ordered a side Caesar salad. No staff around who took our order, the women who was conducting the staff meeting outside and then she had to ask someone else about my wine. My fiance's club sandwich consisted of Texas toast bread, fried baloney, beacon, melted cheap yellow cheese, lettuce, tomato. No one asked if we were okay the whole time we were there. They had a serviceman working on the computers in the bar, a total of 5 costumers while we were there.

The service was very, very bad. The food was not what it was to be, fried Boloney on a sandwich. I would not feed that to my dog. We have been to Applebee's in Mexico and never had an issue with service or food. This was the first and this is in San Jose Cabo where you think the Applebee's would be great because of the gringo here. It goes to show you need to stick with the local fish taco stands. Applebee's, you suck in Cabo. I used my credit card and did not leave a tip which is sad for the workers there, but you know they did not deserve it. We felt we were a bother to be there. I am very disappointed in this Applebee's!

The Applebee's in the Bronx on Fordham plaza needs new workers and new cooks because the food there is no good, and they are always running out of food. The food is sometimes dry, especially "wonton tacos chicken." They come dry and sometimes it will come to you burn. As for the waitresses, they play around a lot and they curse at each other. It's sad. The guys talk about what they are going to do when it's time to go home in front of every table, like who wants to hear that. The waitresses keep talking and making jokes. And they try to include the customers. We come there to eat, to feel relaxed, but that's not happening there. The food takes forever to come, especially the drinks! Now, there is this big problem there. The light keeps turning off and on and all the workers there will start to laugh. They are to ghetto there. No one there is serious. This happens most of the time I go. It's about time I let you know.

Having eaten at Applebees Bayshore, Glendale, Wisconsin, we were a party of 6 with a total dinner and beverage bill of $71.23. A tip of 15% was added and a tax of $5.00. Clearly, the tax was wrong. When I asked the manager, he explained the computer is programed to add tax.

Two issues: First, I was charged tax on the tip. Second, and more important, the tax added was 25% greater than it should be. $5.00 rather than 5.6% on $71.23 equals $3.99. Does Applebees set up their computer to overcharge on tax? That's fraud! Do they purposely add a tax to the tip?

I went into Applebee's and met Matt the manager. He is a racist, rude, and mean man. He talked, no yelled at the employees and flirted with my daughter who is under the age of 16. He sat next to our table and was rude to the employees. Just because you have a position of authority, it doesn't give you the right being mean to people. Then when I told him our food was taking too long, he walked away. I hope you strongly talk to him about his behavior or next time I will.

I ordered a mild chicken wings and I got spicy. I ordered medium stake and got well done. I waited for a while for my food. The food did not taste good at all. The only reason I came here was because of their 2 for $20 special which was all chicken--portions are mediocre! I will think again before I go back to Applebee's. This is already the second time that I had problems both in different locations so there must be something about this franchise.

I went there on a Thursday with my brother. The waitress was dressed inappropriately. Her top revealed so much cleavage that it offended me and made me uncomfortable. She kept giving my brother refills of soda and never once asked me for a refill. When she gave us our plates she laid mine down on the table and leaned into my brother to place his down. Of course my brother had to move back because the waitress made it very clear to give him an eyeful of her cleavage. As if she wanted to get a good tip from him.

I ordered a strawberry cheese cake dessert shot and when I received it, I realized it was put together very sloppy. There were probably a couple of crumbs of gram crackers at the bottom and the strawberry sauce was mixed with the filling. I took one look at it and my brother quickly replied to me that it looked nothing like the one in the picture. I agreed. I paid, so I did not leave her a very good tip at all. I don't think I'll be going there again anytime soon.

I do appreciate the honor of working for you guys at Applebees. I was or am in the process of being terminated by Cliff ** for reasons unknown and totally biased. I feel regardless of the outcome, you should at least be aware of what is happening. When we all got the letter about Anthony ** going ill and getting operated on and the whole Applemetro staff coming to his aid, I was the first to reach out to him as I was going through recovery and you were gracious enough to assure me my job back.

I must start by saying that I am a freemason from fidelity lodge 81A in Harlem, and have been so for many years. Hence, by my oath, I am an upright man, sworn to be square in all my dealings and of good standing at all times. I have enclosed a document signed by me and Reny ** regarding my return back to work. I spoke with Cliff and we agreed on me coming to work late and making up the hours during the days I was off or didn't have any physical therapy to go to for which I would work 14 or sometimes 15 hour shifts.

I agreed based on the fact that I have been out of work for about 2 months and in these times, one cannot really afford luxuries like that anymore, especially since my dad died serving and we never really were left with anything. Cliff called me in on Monday and said that he received an email from Reny complaining about me coming in late. I was alarmed as I thought before I even set foot back in Applebees, we worked out this agreement, and from then on I felt like there was already a negative agenda in the works concerning my future in Applemetro.

Initially, I wanted to return back to New Rochelle as I felt more comfortable there and would have to worry much about reestablishing myself with the gm and the staff getting used to my unorthodox leadership style which Reny was apparently intimidated by. I started my usual no nonsense way of whipping BayPlaza into shape as the need for service minded servers was huge. Within the first week, they were all in proper uniform, guest complaints were down, and we actually got a couple of guest praises.

Now Mr. Miguel ** once told me that should anyone ever be caught trying to steal from the company or it's guests that they should be terminated on the spot which culminated form the incident where a server in New Rochelle lied to a guest about not having water, to sell them a bottle and I kept that kind of voracity to heart. When there was a gm meeting held by Cliff and we found 8 servers who were ringing up trios and deleting the cost but sending the orders anyway to sell to guests for a zero charge and keep the proceeds, some ran such transaction over 50 times and we found them using their swipe code. I requested we terminate them and bring in new help.

Reny insisted we keep them, write them up and let them off with a warning. This and many other situations where I wanted quick action to set examples. He always hindered me as he wanted to be the only voice and so my role as a service manager was immediately undermined. Also, Cliff said that 2 servers had filed a complaint about me making comments to them, he did however admit they had no proof or witnesses but felt that on that basis recommended I should seek employment elsewhere. The funny thing about it is that one of the servers had actually openly made sexual remarks and passes towards me in public for which I have witnesses (Koria-bartender), which I shrugged off. All he said was that should my statement pan out and my situation is the truth, the person who made the allegation would get fired.

Great. So what does that do to address my situation? That anyone who makes an allegation that is baseless and without merit about a manager can get that manager punished or in my case terminated immediately without investigation? This is legally immoral as according to my last review I received a successful rating and Cliff signed off on it as well. So I know how to do my job and go beyond the mere requirements, my former gm Denise **(your champion) can verify this. On more than one occasion, I was undermined by the supervisor(Yaritza). I approached Reny about this and as usual, he shrugged it off saying he would address it which he never did. The last two weeks I was there, we were up in sales, guest complaints were down and CSI scores were up. I had to have made some impact in there regardless of noted or not. Numbers don't lie.

Mr. Zane and Miguel, if I didn't have passion for the business of guest service or cared about your opinions of me, I could've simply slipped away in silence, but I simply refuse to go down this path without my voice being heard. I would never choose the legal path before speaking with you sirs for your grace. I simply want you to look further into this on my behalf.

When there was a proven case of a manager dating 7 girls in Bayplaza (Collins), he simply just got transferred to Harlem for one week, then to Fordham as of next week. And he is still with the server, he ended up settling with from the bunch (Natalie-bartender). Most importantly, Cliff knew because he told me about that being the reason why there is a manager opening in Bayplaza as I vehemently requested to go to my old home in New Rochelle where it was safer, less political. Denise was not a gm that micromanaged but rather gave assistant managers room to grow by allowing them hands on experience running the restaurant in her absence. So I ask you gentlemen, in these two scenarios what is ethical, moral and legally correct?

I have always been drawn to men of respectable standings and in the Bible when people of old yearned for knowledge, they clung to those where the knowledge came from so as to learn their ways. I have researched Mr. Zane from the printing mills, union wars, the first building he sold in Manhattan unoccupied for an impressive ROI. And Mr. ****** from the faces of diversity awards, Pacific Gold Inc, you name it and when I speak of you guys, it is with nothing less but beaming pride. I feel a great immoral and unethical injustice has been done and I humbly await your response.

Thank you gentlemen very much for taking time out of your schedules to attend to my ear in a sea of employees and business related plethora. God bless you.

I have been working with Applebee's since 9/9/2010 and not once have had a break! I got writing up on a final notice because I had a comp. of $130.00 when they only gave me 4 days of training. There are also employees working there that are under age, bar tending with no license. I have physical bruises on my feet showing that I work on my feet from 4-2 am with no breaks! There are also sexual harassments going on that the managers just ignore. On both left and right feet, there are bruises. I lost toe nails. I and other females have been touched without consent!

On 1/23/10 approximately 6:05pm, myself and 2 other co-workers walked into the establishment, gave our names to the matron so we could wait to be seated. The matron expressed it would be about 15 minutes to be seated. On our lunch hour of course we noticed seats at the bar and asked if we could sit there instead of waiting 15 minutes. The matron said yes. So we went to sit at the bar.

We were greeted with the server/attendant named Jonathan who stated to us that he needed all of our IDs because people have been known to skip out on their tabs. But mind you, we were the only African Americans sitting at the bar and we noticed he did not ask anyone else who came and sat at the bar for there IDs. Only one of us gave him our ID, which he proceeded to take it and put the ID in the cash register. We felt that was right at all. We could see if he needs to see our IDs for alcohol purchase, to make sure of our ages. And we all felt it was discrimination and Jonathan sent the manager over about 10 minutes later, who tried to explain that this is Applebee's policy. But no one else who came to sit at the bar had to give the server (Jonathan) the IDs to hold.

I was one of a party of sever, on Saturday afternoon at your restaurant. First, I realized our waitress (Ashley Parker) was not friendly when she came over to take our order. I and my sister order the 2 for $20 special. The first item I ordered was the appetizer; spinach and artichoke dip with chips. Then, my sister and I both ordered the three cheese chicken penne. When the waitress, bought out a Caesar salad to one of the other people in our party, I asked to order a Caesar salad.

Later, when our entrees had arrived and we were enjoying our food, a person in our party brought to my attention that my appetizer had not arrived. I asked Ashley the whereabouts of the appetizer and she said, I didnt hear you order an appetizer? in a very nasty tone. Then she stated, Do you want it now? in a tone as if I was her child. I politely asked my sister, Would she like the appetizer?? and before my sister could respond, Ashley in a more unpleasant tone stated again? Do you want it know?? I responded, No?. The unpleasant exchanges from Ashley and her negative energy towards me caused the entire parties mood to no longer be happy and joyful. A person in our party observed Ashley telling the manager, Missy about the situation. I then asked another waiter to please get me the manager. Missy the manager came to the table acting as if she was unaware of the situation.

I explained the situation to Missy and she asked what she could do to rectify the situation. I asked that Ashley come and apologize for the behavior. Missy informed me that Ashley has refused to come back to the table. First, Ashley should have read back everyones ordered before she left the table to make sure it was correct before placing the orders in Applebees computer system. Second, the receipt states I order the 2 for $20 special, if Ashley had checked she would have realized that it comes with an appetizer and the Caesar Salad is not one of the choices. Third, if I had not asked for the manger, how were we going to continue to be served? Fourth, a manager can make a request to an employee, within the scope of their job duties, and they can refuse and the employee is not relieved of their job duties for insubordination. I would like to thank Applebees for the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I and the other seven members of my party will not be patronizing you establishments again.

For reference, the demographics for the members of my party are all African American women. Four teachers, Supervisor at the NC State Employees Credit Union with her daughter, and me, the Personnel Dosimetry Manager for the Radiation Safety Division for Duke University Medical Center/ University and Health System.

Applebees advertised "buy $50.00 gift card and receive $10.00 gift card free". I went into my local Applebees and bought two $50 gift cards. I was given four $5.00 paper cards. When I got home and read the back of them they were only good from Jan. 1, 2009 to Feb. 28th 2009. Also, you could only use one $5.00 coupon per visit. That means I would have to eat at Applebees four times in two months to get the value of my bonus card.

Imagine if I had bought four $50.00 cards....I would have had to eat at Applebees eight times in a two month period. They have deliberately set the bonus program up so that the more you buy the less chance there is of redeeming them. I read their press release and there is no mention of a time restraint or a $5.00 bonus card limit per visit. There is no mention of it on the TV ads and no mention of it on their website. I believe they deliberately deceived people into buying these gift cards under false pretenses. I believed that for each $50.00 gift certificate I bought that I would be given a $10.00 gift card with no strings attached. I am sure that the thousands of other people who bought them believed this also. I feel like this is fraud and that I have been cheated.

My niece crawled under the table to get a crayon and came up with 5 ants on her hand, and was bitten! The manager took care of the meal but FAILED to fill out an incident report!

My niece now has 5 welts on her hand where she was bitten!

Went to dinner with parents and husband on 1/3/04. Service was very poor. They took our food to about 5 different tables asking "Did you order this?". Then the took it back to the kitchen for about 5 minutes. When they returned, my food was cold. My dad's bread came after he had eaten his meal. My mom's food came and was incoreect. They corrected the order and her food came after everyone had finished eating. We asked for the manager. She came and stated that this was not her usual store. She said that from waht she could see, the staff had a "lack of training" She was very rude, but offered us a 15% discount.

My mom asked for the corporate number in Memphis, and she was given the number. We both charged our dinners to our charge accounts. Upon checking with my credit card company online this morning, I notice that I have amounts other than what I authorized. The same was done to my mom and dad. I assume this to be theft. There was a cash tip left for the server on the table. I am highy dissastified with Applebee's service and theft and would like a full refund and a letter of apology. I called the number that we were give this a.m. They took my name and number and have yet to call me back. I have made an online complaint with the Applebees Corporation.
