We got behind on or mortgage because my husband lost his job. We heard an advertisement on the radio for a modification company that guarantees results. We contacted USLAC and spoke with Cory. He e-mailed the appropriate paperwork and we filled it out. They deducted $1,000 from our checking account and started the process. We were told not to contact our lender that they would do all the negotiations.
When my husband got back to work, we wanted to start making the mortgage payments and spoke with the representative from USLAC. We were advised that if we sent any payments that the mortgage company wouldn't do the modification. Every time we called to check on the progress of our modification, we would get some generic answer and we would have to leave a message for a person in the processing department. In December approximately three months after we started the process, we received foreclosure papers.
I again called USLAC, only this time, all the numbers we had would just ring. There was no answer or recording. I called our mortgage company and spoke with someone in loss mitigation. They informed me that they had only been contacted by USLAC on one occasion and that was for authorization to discuss our loan.
We are in the process of working with our lender to get this matter taken care of so we don't lose our house. I received a letter from USLAC in February stating that the business was in the process of filing bankruptcy. I feel they shouldn't get away with ripping so many people off and then filing bankruptcy so they don't have to pay us our money back. I believe it was a scam from the start. Because of what USLAC did, we have to pay a higher mortgage payment that we can afford in order to try to get out mortgage caught up. We still may end up losing out house. We are struggling to pay the increased mortgage and our other necessary bills.
