Gretchen of Long Beach CA (02/07/06)
I decided to do my taxes again online with this company and needed to add some information because i recieved another tax form that I wasn't expecting. So I logged on to add but since my information had been sumitted I had to call.Once I did the lady who answered the phone said it would be an additional $25 to add the information when I would do it myself but my return is in progress. So once I get that I have to send the check back with a copy of the form and $25. I don't think that is right, I 've paid them enough already and not getting much back and now I have to pay more money.

I am very disappointed not to mention the lady I spoke with wasn't clear about what I needed to do as if I knew the procedure.

I did my taxes this year with TaxesByExperts under the assumption that it was free as that is what it stated on their website.I am sorry that I used this service this year.So the next day i called them and the lady i taiked to was very RUDE!!! And i found out that they were taking out $165 for hidden charges.

The person(s) representing a tax preparation company are rude and abusive. They submit returns that are erroneous and when questioned, they correct the returns and even make errors in their corrected returns. The returns are automatically submitted before you have a chance to review them. Then, they have the gall to charge you for correcting their errors. The charges are exorbitant and you only know what those charges are after their submittal. Trying to talk to them was an ordeal last year when I had the misfortune of finding these "experts" on the internet. The guarantee for personal expert review of your return is a joke. This year I will steer clear of this company.

My state return was only $73 based on their calculations.  It should have been $704.  I had to submit a manual correction and did not get the rest of my return until July.  My state only processes corrected income tax return after all other tax returns have been processed.

Jennifer of Billings MT (2/23/05):
I did my taxes this year with TaxesByExperts under the assumption that it was free as that is what it stated on their website. At the end I saw that a fee of $69.85 for ERO. By that time it was too late to change anything so I left it alone. I called the IRS to see about my return and was told that it would be $424.00 and how it would be sent. I had put it on a credit card however the IRS said it was a direct deposit in a bank account.

I then called TaxesByExperts and was told that there would by about $150 taken out due to fees that was stated on the web site. I tried to explain to her that I saw no such thing on the web site and she treated me like I was stupid and like I didn't know what i was talking about. I talked to the owner and she said the same thing. They were VERY rude and I WILL not be using them again. I am a single mother who needs all the money I make and would not have gone on with these people had I known that much money was going to be taken out. I'm not that stupid despite what those people said.

Talmade of Donalsonville GA (2/17/05):
After I did my taxes online my tax refund was $1,060.00. After their charges for filing my refund was supposed to be $911.00. I went online to check status and now my refund is down too $876.15, incurring some kind of bank charge of $64.00. They said I would have my refund in 24 to 48 hours -- well, it has been three days and still have not seen anything.

Rita of Columbia SC (2/10/04):
I am sorry that I used this service this year. I did not know upfront that my simple tax return prepared on line like I did last year that cost me zero, would cost $99.80. I could have prepared them myself. My taxes are not $99 worth of trouble.

The only reference to cost that I saw when entering my tax information was that if they prepare my state taxes it would cost me $34 and some odd cents. I cancelled my SC tax return with them, I thought that was too much, so I went online and got them done with the state for free. I am not someone who complains as a rule, but it was not made clear to me that there would be a charge. This is not even a reasonable charge!

If the Government wants us all to use electronic filing it should be made available to us for no cost and without individual companies playing gotcha with us.

$99.80 is a lot of money to me. I work hard for what little wages I do get and I do not waste money or resources. I am very offended by this incident. Believe me I will not make the same mistake next year.

The government in fact does just that. The IRS site has simple instructions on how to file your taxes online, free of charge.
