I filed my first complaint after 3 attempts of contacting directly with Tar Heel Tax Consulting (THTC) about my cancellation due to no work. But I was denied with everything by Tabatha **, the case manager. I signed an agreement & processed my first payment around end of March 2011, as I requested their help on my sales tax. Instead of the monthly payment, I preferred the weekly. Every Monday starting on March 28, 2011 my bank will debit $500. While my fourth payment was made, which was around April 22 or 24, I still haven't heard anything from Tar Heel explaining or notifying me of the process of my case. So I contacted them requesting to cancel/close my account.

I spoke with Tabatha *** and she told me she sent out a letter, but I never received any. I waited a few days since she told me she will send out another letter. I asked, "what have they done so far?" & she told me, "there's nothing they can do right now besides wait on a transcript from the Revenue, to understand my case". At this point, I was hopeless that they weren't as fast as I thought they would be. I would like to solve this matter as soon as possible from the Revenue, to avoid more increase of my sales tax amount due to late filing. The more I waited the more penalties & interest will be added to my tax. Over 30 days & payments was 80% finished, all I got was that they were still waiting. So beginning of May 6, 2011, I have to find a different company to help me with my sales tax.

I contacted Tar Heel again requesting my account to be closed. I do not need their service anymore. But with the same person I spoke to few weeks ago, she still denied my request & she wasn't willing to refund me back. She kept repeating that we have an agreement, which stated "No refunds will be given after work has commenced". I understand that there are no refunds when work has commenced, but what kind of work has commenced when all I know is they have been waiting for a transcript from the Revenue over 30 days. I believe I gave Tar Heel enough time to work on my case before I seek for another. As of today, I have spoken with Tabatha 4 times, requesting to close my account due to lack of work & that I would like a refund. But she kept on repeating the same things "we have a agreement".

I even told her I no longer needed their service, but she still won't close my account. I was unhappy with Heel to work for me, they wasted my time & until now nearly 2 months they finally have my transcript. They are also rude to their clients when they requested to close the account. I'm willing to pay 5% of their work, but not $2500. It's not worth it. Most companies are willing to cancel / close the account of their client when it is being requested. My second choice company only took less than 3 weeks to settle my case with the Revenue office & now I'm on a monthly payment. I'm happy that I sought for other help instead of wasting my time waiting for Tar Heel. I hope you can help me with my complaint toward Tar Heel about my cancellation & refund of 85% of my money back.

I filed my second complaint. Today, I called Tar Heel Tax Consulting (THTC) requesting to speak with Tabatha ***. I again asked to cancel my case & for a refund for the fourth time. However, I am again told of the same answer, that they did not give refunds and that "we have an agreement". She then proceeded to tell me how she tried all she can do, sending out many letters for the past few months about additional information needed. Throughout the whole process there was no communication going on from THTC informing me about my case.

Well, the only communication I received was when they can't collect my money on my second payment. There was a lady who called me, to whom I also asked about regarding my case. She told me someone will contact me within a week, yet I still have not received any phone call from THTC nor from Ronald ***, the person assigned to work on my case. I waited so long, I grew tired of continuing. I believe I gave THTC enough time to contact me to discuss my case, but their work are 10 times worst and yet they collect my money on time & fast! When they can't collect for the month, they will contact me. How come they can't make 1 simple phone call to communicate with me about my case nor update me of any needed additional information in order to work on my case?

When I questioned Tabatha if she ever contacted me through phone or even tried to, as they don't have my contact number or information they can reach me, she replied "I have tried many times with a written letter as a proof". Really, these days you communicate with your client through letter? You have so much time writing a letter & send many times like you say, but can't directly contact me through the phone. I told her that after 1 or 2 letters that they send out without any response, they better do a checkup call. If you can't do it yourself, ask your assistant to do so, instead of repeating the same steps over. Even after 4 letters without response Tabatha or whoever was handling my case never bothered to contact me.

She was now cutting off all communication with me saying I didn't give her a day to return my call. Before filing a complaint to Better Business Bureau (BBB), I called on Thursday June 2nd around 12 p.m - 3 p.m. The THTC front desk told me Tabatha was not in the office til Monday morning. I requested for someone else to help me. She told me to contact Ronald, which I did but he was out of town til Monday. Even his assistant couldn't help me. I totally gave THTC all the time they needed. After 30+days from my document faxed to THTC to work on my case with IRS & many attempted phone call I made, no one called me back when I was told twice that someone will call me within a week.

From my point of view, Tabatha was in the office but refused to answer my call. She now only communicates to BBB. She stated, "if you replace other company as your Power of Attorney, instead of THTC that's fine". Well, if you can't handle my case then why would I waste my time. If someone can do the work 10 times faster, yes I'm glad to seek for other help with my tax. I hired THTC to help settle my tax debt because of the rating they have on BBB, but after this, I wonder how they got that rating with such a horrible job & disrespect with their clients. If I knew I was going to go through this much trouble, I doubt about considering them in the first place. I think I have the right to tell others about the bad service I received & not to believe much of good ratings. Instead, to take more time to surf around before hiring & paying in full but get nothing out of it.

THTC is a rip-off! I now understand why they wanted the client to sign an agreement form first. They only want to take people's money & let them wait & wait while the tax debt is increasing. For it to be non-refundable is also ridiculous since I have not received any service. If I knew how horrible their work were, THTC will not be my first option! I made the biggest mistake of my life to hire one of the worst companies on the face of the earth to help me with my tax problem.

I don't understand how THTC keeps saying they were waiting on their request for a document from me. The current company I work with does not request me any document, but they solved my case & now working on the settlement with the Revenue officer. If THTC was willing to work on my case, I doubt they can do the same as others. It was my mistake to speed up the payment, I should have waited until I received 50% of my case process. One thing that seemed so ridiculous to me is that the NC Revenue officer never received any contact from THTC regarding my tax. THTC would not refund my money! What kind of work can they continue when my case is solved? I'm willing to pay some fee for their lack of work, but $2,500 is a rip-off.
