My name is Adam ** and I am a single father in need of some help regarding predatory lending by Speedy Cash. Unfortunately, I recently became a victim of this fast spreading epidemic. I lost my job, after 3 years, in January of this year. I have been unable to obtain work due to the vast majority of people with degrees that are applying for the same everyday Joe jobs I am applying for. In brief my story is as follows:
I own a 2003 Kia Spectra for which I had to get a title loan out against it in order to pay my rent and electric when my family was unable to assist me in paying my mandatory monthly bills. I obviously was unable to pay my monthly payment one month and Speedy Cash told me they could only extend my loan out a whopping 5 more days and that was as far as they could extend it. I was still unable to pay and I spoke to one of the customer service representatives and she informed me that I had a minimum of 30 days before Speedy Cash puts in the repossession order for the towing company to pick up the vehicle.
Needless to say, on the 30th day exactly, the tow truck showed up around 3:00AM and my neighbor came and woke me up that the vehicle was being towed. After a small conversation with the driver, he stated that the vehicle was going to be taken care of and there would be nothing to worry about. Feeling assured, I handed him the keys.
I called the towing company to get a total cost and what actions would be taken if I did not pick up the vehicle right away. The towing company actually worked with me, or so I thought! The towing company only charged me $600 instead of charging the $900 or so that was actually due. The towing company had my vehicle for roughly a little over a month. I picked up my vehicle on 7-29-11 and I was shocked to see the interior of my vehicle, to say the least.
Someone or a few people had literally gone through my vehicle. My brand new windshield is cracked and needs to be replaced, my window cranks are broken on both front doors, my door panels and trim have to be replaced, 1 custom speaker box with 2 kicker subs were stolen, my fog horns were removed from the trunk and decals are missing on the exterior. There is plenty more stolen and broken. The towing company told me they were going to send someone out to take pictures. No one has shown up.
I called Speedy Cash and they told me to wait until Tuesday 8/2/11 for the district manager to make contact with me regarding I did not want to make my payment to them until we all came to some kind of resolution. Speedy cash had my Kia repossessed on Monday night, 8/1/11, with my son's car seat and a few other personal belongings.
Please if you could help me investigate this, I want this to be as public as possible. What these companies are doing is wrong. I mean after I read the fine print, I am paying 180% interest on a $1,800 loan. I keep getting the runaround and no one wants to take responsibility. I have no answers and a car that I have to pay the towing and storage on again as well as repair the entire interior.
