      Samuel ** was our loan officer and he was extremely courteous at all times and always took our calls when we called. My husband is a 100 percent disabled veteran who was a highly decorated helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. He has many health issues now related to being a war veteran. He was in the army a total of 27 years counting his reserve time. From the get go I told Sam we hated to give up our 2.625 loan rate but we had to get the credit card debt off of us and we didn’t want extra cash out. I told him we would like the best rate possible and he quoted 6.99% rate and I asked him if that was with 1% origination and he said yes and didn’t say anything about four discount points also.

      He ordered the appraisal and when we got the disclosure in the mail and saw the four discount points I immediately called him and told him we would in no way do this as this was gouging the veteran rather than trying to help the veteran. He had charged a total of $10,000 in points plus 1% origination so in essence New Day was charging us $12,500 to do this loan. I had never revealed to him up until this time that I was a retired loan officer and I told how that in all my career I had never charged a customer 4 points and a 1% origination fee that that was unheard of and totally gouging the borrower to the fullest. He said from the get go he would try to take it to the board and get us a lower rate if possible.

      When I told him to haunt the loan tight then and as a matter of fact the termite man was at our door while I was on the phone with Sam and I told Sam I didn’t think he would want that expense if we were not going through with the loan so the termite man left. Sam said he would take the loan before the board and see what they could do. And get this, he was not even going to pay off our Belk card yet he was charging us $10,000 in points. I told him I was going to go back to our existing mortgage company and see what they could do. He asked me to get him a written estimate of what they could offer and he would see what the board could do. He called me back and said they would reduce the loan amount by $5,000 and pay off my Belk card and take off the $10,000 in points.

      So you can see he was not trying to help the borrower by raising our loan amount to $250,000 and not even paying off our credit cards like we had requested but yet was charging us $10,000 in discount points. I don’t know if he just thought we were stupid and wouldn't notice is all I can figure. Also they were now going to raise our rate to 7.125% instead of giving us a better rate. He acted like that was good that they lowered the loan amount and were now going to pay off Belk and took off the discount points. After my husband and I discussed it we decided we were going to go with our existing mortgage company as we felt New Day was not really trying to help the veteran and they were going to give us a lower rate and pay off all our debts. Even though they were charging $7,000 which included the origination and points we were going to save about $100 on our monthly payment which was a lot we thought.

      My husband is the one who does all the computer stuff and the other company’s application and disclosures were much harder to navigate through and he was getting really stressed out so I told him to stop and we would just go back to New Day. My husband has PTSD and I didn’t want him stressing over all this so I told the lady at New Rez that we were just going to have to stay with New Day and that we appreciated her trying to help us. So that’s when I called Sam back and I told him that is why we were coming back to New Day. I know this is a lengthy comment I feel like I needed to say all this.

      The truth is that I’m not sure why any of this was worth my time. I first spoke to the representative and he explained how they could pay off two high interest loans I have and leave me with 15 to 30 thousand dollars cash to do my home improvements after it was all said and done. The truth is that after it was all said and done, the house wasn’t worth much less than they had thought and at the end i now have a higher percentage rate and saved $200 total per month. One of the two loans was wrapped up into the new mortgage so raised the mortgage payment by 300 and removed the payment for that loan of 500 so saved me $200 per month. Honestly it was all kind of a wash. I kept asking about specifics but was told several times it would all makes sense in the end. Honestly it still doesn’t make sense. Someone made thousands of dollars off of this transaction but it sure wasn’t me.

      This company advertises as a veteran loan financing bank. They also advertise that they specialize in processing loans for veterans with no so positive credit records. When my son tried to get a new home loan, there was a scar on his record from a car payment that was missed. Not only did they turn him down for a home loan, but they said come back and try again in 3 months. Upon retrying in 3 months, whomever he got that time said come back and try again in 12 months. He's trying to get a home loan to get him and his family out of living in an RV and NewDay definitely didn't live up to the expectations based on their advertising as being veteran friendly and serving the veteran community. Very disappointed.

      Seems as though the customer service side of New Day has fallen. I had people show at my house that I was never notified would be coming, luckily, I was at home. I wasn't kept apprised of status and delays, and my questions asked often went unanswered, or had to be asked several times before I received the answer. You advertise on TV that YOU have decision-making authority on loans, yet I didn't not get disbursement of funds the way that I preferred because of underwriters and their approval or disapproval based on what they wanted, not me.

      The overall process was thorough and done in a timely manner. (approx. 60 days from application to checks issued). Throughout the process, system-generated emails were very redundant. This created confusion on what needed signed or returned. Being on the conservative side, we found this very wasteful of paper. Ben **, the rep. was always available when we had questions or concerns. Very easy to work with. The WFG Lender Services would not be our first pick for the closing agent. Some communication issues between what we were told by Ben and what actually took place with regards to the pay-offs. Only one loan was wired pay-off and the remaining pay-offs were in the form of checks that we had to deal with.

      At the closing, when the Notary came and showed up, none of the numbers were what we had been told. The actual total loan amount had been increased by over $3,700. We would suggest sending the papers electronically to the borrower at least 24 hrs. in advance to avoid a big surprise. Not enough to cancel the process, but we had to phone Ben for clarity. Most closings would not continue at that point. The amounts on the paperwork did not match any amount that we had been shown for two property loans. The checks we received did not match anything for those two pay-offs. Overall, we are pleased with the end results and would recommend your company to our friends/family.

      I asked general questions and then was told that Newday USA didn't serve North Dakota. I couldn't find it in the listing of non serviced states so I am using a competitor. It was such a disappointment nonetheless.

      It was a pleasure to work with Matt. He was knowledgeable and professional. He worked with me and answered all my questions. NewDay gave me a chance to get out of debt while adding less than my debt payments to my mortgage payment. The only thing that I should have paid attention to was how much I had to pay out of my refinance money. Either I didn't pay attention or I didn't understand. Matt explained why and how the cost of refi, and I had the opportunity to cancel, but the deal was worth it in the end.

      The personnel at New Day were helpful as well as patient. I believe that at no cause of their own VA took a longer time that usual to approve the loan.       I would like to give special thanks to Admiral Lynch for having a great financial organization like New Day to help veterans with their financial needs. As a retired Army veteran, I had accumulated debt on several high-interest rate credit cards after owning my home for over five years. Initially, my wife and I thought about selling the house and using the equity to pay off our credit cards. However, after speaking with a New Day representative over the phone. He offered me a way to not only refinance my home, but to pay-off high interest credit cards for me and my wife, while receiving a cash payout to complete upgrades to my home, to include possibly using a portion of the cash to take a vacation.       Outstanding service from our loan officer (Ryan). He was very knowledgeable, professional and personable. He gives his all to whomever he's working with. There was never a time that we didn't know what was going on, even during the down times when certain things in the process had to be verified, he would always check in just to let us know what was happening and what would take place next. He allowed us to process/submit paperwork and scheduled meetings at times that was convenient for my wife and I. If NewDay gives out bonuses or gift cards for outstanding service Ryan should definitely receive one.

      The refi loan I received was much too long in the process (over 6 months) and much too expensive (closing costs were over $26K). After receiving loan, payoffs by ASC were confusing and inaccurate. After 4 weeks, two of the payoffs have not been resolved and ASC made payoffs to revolving accounts of less than $100. These accounts were never behind in payments. This resulted in money being paid at a high interest rate for 30 years. The only positive side of this whole prolonged process was Mr. Colson ** and only he kept my diligence to stick with the long process.
