National City Bank

Lorraine of Dearborn MI (04/13/09)
I had a National City bank account since 1992. This occurrence took place in 2008. A business was illegally taking money out of my account on a monthly basis for two months. As a result of me not being aware of this because I did not authorize ANY business to withdraw from my account, the account was overdrawn. When I called the bank to attempt to find out how this business was able to have access to my account and debit it, the manager insisted I gave this company permission to debit my account.

I kept pressing her on information when this authorization took place and who was debiting it and she was uncooperative in helping me get to the root of the problem. I was checking my online balance every couple of weeks and did not see the unauthorized debit or else I would have jumped on it right away. I had not been using my debit card and was just taking out cash as I needed it and was making only cash transactions but somehow this company got into my information.

I told the bank to close my account to put a stop to the incurring fees and put a stop to whomever was withdrawing on my account but the manager refused and I and stuck bearing the financial burden for their lax privacy and confidentiality policies. Only after I discussed the matter with the National City representative did the unauthorized transactions show up on my online banking.

The bank now says I owe over 500 to them. Plus, I am out the money that whomever it was having unauthorized access to my account and as a result withdrawing from my account. They expect me to pay for their lack of security that was supposed to be in place taking care of my account and my security as a long time customer.

The bank calims I owe a total of 1,680 in overdrafts and bank fees. The account has been currently handed over to a collection agency. I contacted the bank about these fees and asked for verification of three particular decutions totaling 906. The bank even sent me a letter stating that one of these deductions was returned to the bank due to lack of funds and charged me a returned check fee.

I asked the bank for an investigation prior to them truning this over to a collection agency, but they are unwilling to contact or work with me. If this truns up as a negitive on my credit report this is clearly a deformation of character and I could stand to lose thousands. The bank charged over 1,200 in overdraft fees with no explanation.

Lower unecessary low credit score. Undisclosed or illegal fees.

I have been banking with National City since 1991. Unfortunately in the past three years...I have been astonished at how the online banking works to their advantage and equally floored at how little they are willing to work with you in order to keep your business. Today I will be switching both my savings and checking over to a credit union in order to ensure that no more of my hard earned dollars goes to feed this machine.

I had a bank attachment and with that it was all of my unemployment checks, National City didnt review any of those checks that were deposited and therefore gave them a check for over 2,447.37 which took out the reserve and bounced a check.

I had no money to pay for my bills, had to go to court to get my money back and had no money to pay my bills or to live on. Now National City wants me to pay them 517.99 for the overdraft plus to repay the 300.00 reserve money.

I will relate two stories of abuse by a lender and a credit card company: 1. National City Bank In 2002 I took out a Home Equity Line of Credit for 15,000 (with my ORIGINAL mortgage holder) which I used on occasion and ALWAYS paid earlier than due and more than was expected. National City took over my bank 2 years ago. Last month they notified me that my equity line has been suspended due to the market value of my home being lowered to 96K (that is rubbish!) and if I objected I had 3 days from date of letter.

However the date they sent it out was 5 days after it was dated and rec'd 7 days later! This is so wrong on so many levels. My house value did not drop from 175K to 96K in 2 years; the date of their letter was a sham; and, most importantly, how do they have a legal right to negate my contract?? I did not sign a new contract with them and I did not negate the terms of my contract, therefore they should not have the right to arbitrarily suspend my equity line of credit! I am 65 years old and this is the only resource I have in the event of a home or personal emergency.

Should any emergency arise, I have no way to pay for anything and subsequently could end up losing my house as well. This is a predatory practice when they get into financial trouble and make me pay the consequences. I have never done anything to warrant this action and they are trying to justify their misdeed by lying about my property and their pre-dated notifying letter.
