Conseco Sells GM Building

Greentree's troubled portfolio of mobile-home loans was sold to Conseco a few years ago, leading to the third-largest bankruptcy in U.S. history. Conseco has rid itself of Greentree as part of the bankruptcy proceeding, leaving customers in a fog, as these consumer reports show.

My daughter's mortgage was taken over by Greentree. Payments that were 302 went to 350 and are now at 387.  We are all helping her make payments but several times a week we are called and harrassed.

"Noe" told a friend who answered the phone that he was going to report my daughter to CPS for not providing a place for her children to live. He called 3 times this week and argued with my grandchildren. He wanted my work number. They told him I didn't work and he said, "that figures".   He knows I'm trying to help my daughter and they always get the payments, perhaps late, but they get them. He also knows my daughter has no phone. She lost that when she lost her job, so he calls me and is cruel in the things he says.

I called to get the payoff of my loan that was sold to Greentree from Washington Mutual. They told me they could not give me that information sooner than 48 hours.

By the time I got the information my balance had grown 800. They told me it was interest on balances unpaid.  When I asked about this 800 rise in my balance in the course of 2 days, the lady said "now you know what it is like getting teeth pulled".   I am not even sure what that means or how it applied to our conversation!

I am being harrassed by Greentree finance for payments on a mobile home that is not mine. My children's father bought a mobile home from Greentree. Now that it is in default they are calling me for payments and have now debited my father's checking account for a payment without permission.

My name is no where on this account nor has it ever been. I have pleaded with them to leave me alone and stop harrassing me. They are relentless and now they are stealing from my elderly parents.

Pam of Seneca, SC October 2, 2006

Pam of Seneca, SC (10/02/06)
4 members of my family had our homes financed through GreenTree - always with direct draft so payments are NEVER late. My mother passed away this past year and GreenTree has been very uncooperative about clearing out her home. We were told that because she did not have a second person listed on the loan that the home would automatically be put up for reposession unless we wanted to keep sending in payments. And if we did, it would only delay the reposession process that would happen anyway.

We tried to negotiate the clearing of the house until July 1 which would give us 3 months to grieve and go through her items. They told us we had a specific date to be out and that was it. I told them if we complied with their request then they must comply with our - that the land was ours and they would have a specific date to have the home moved or we would charge them storage fee for having it on our property!

I sent a certified letter to this effect and of course they haven't responed.  It has now been 73 days and the house is still there.

Robert of Taylors,, SC September 27, 2006

Robert of Taylors, SC (09/27/06)
Every time we are almost straight with our payments, Greentree turns us into legal, which cost us a 1000 or so.  The more we pay the more we owe.

In the last 2 weeks we have paid 750 one payment and 480 the next one. "Travis" turned us over to legal for 30!  And he is trying to help us?

We are financially drained and mentally stressed, but our home is our #1 priority.
