Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Discount Advances has the rudest and most disrespectful representatives. They cut you off when you're asking questions and if you don't understand something, you just don't. They are highly overrated with the prices they charge to take out a loan. They also charge you extra to extend the loan if needed $200. Also, they tell you they will take out one amount and it is much higher than stated. Me, personally, I would never use them or recommend using their company for services. Their customer service and their third party contact who they use to contact you is terrible. I am currently awaiting a manager to call me back from the terrible service I received. Your best advice is to survive on your own before you borrow from them.

This isn't a complaint, but there was no other way to post a response. Why would someone call in to make a payment or request an extension, when it can be done right there on the website? You can pay whatever the "interest" is and extend the original loan for another 2 weeks. The whole process is stated right on the website. If it's due on a Friday, you must do this by 4:30pm on Thursday. Then they will take nothing from your bank account but the interest. I've been doing business with DA for over 6 years and they've always been very upfront with me.

When I got laid off work, they worked with me to get my loan paid, w/o costing me a lot of extra fees to do it. They are a very legitimate company. I'm not looking for any compensation. I merely wanted to post this in protest of persons who could have saved themselves a lot of grief, simply by reading the instructions which are posted very plainly on the website, instead of blaming DA when they had to pay the entire amount, because they didn't read the instructions.

Discount Advances has a referral program where, if you refer a friend and they successfully obtain a loan, you are given $100. I did so and when it came time to give me $100, Discount Advances told me that I was not entitled because the loan my friend obtained did not meet their guidelines. Discount Advances is misleading and does not live up to its incentive program. I am very disgusted as I am a customer and have spent tons of money in interest and they cannot even give me $100 for referring a friend.

I took out a payday loan with Discount Advances on 6/9. My 1st payment was 7/16. I was instructed that if I needed to extend the loan to call within 24hrs to do so. I called Discount on 7/14 to extend the loan. The first words out of my mouth was "I would like to extend my loan." The woman I spoke with told me that the fee to do so would be $138.75. I was taken aback because I didn't think it should be that high and we discussed for about 10-15 minutes. After she explained the fee, I said, "Okay so $138.75 will be deducted from my checking account on 7/16," and she said yes. I ended the call.

This morning Monday 7/19, I called my bank to make sure it was deducted and they ended taking the whole amount which was $438.75 which I did not have in my checking account. I called Discount and asked to talk with a supervisor after I realized the person who answered was not going to help me. I asked Angela, the supervisor, what happened and she said I never confirmed the terms of the extension. I replied I was never given any terms on 7/14 and asked if the calls were recorded. She said yes and I asked her to go back and listen to the call so she could hear that the rep did not give me any terms and that I asked for an extension multiple times.

Angela called me back after an hour and said that I never agreed to the terms of the extension therefore one was never given. I asked her if she heard me ask for an extension multiple times and she said yes but of course went on to tell me again that I never confirmed the terms. I was confused and asked what I was supposed to confirm and she said that the rep should have given me a confirmation # after I answered a couple of questions. I told her that I should not be penalized because their rep didn't do her job. How was I supposed to know what the process is? I don't work there. Anyway needless to say I got screwed and they won't refund me my $300. I now have a checking account that is overdrawn by $315.00 and have no way to replace that money which means I will get all sorts of bank fees on top of everything else.
