Citibank's Cards Mysteriously Shut Down

Richard of Solana Beach, CA November 25, 2008

Richard of Solana Beach CA (11/25/08)
I have been receiving automated calls from Citibank saying I have a problem with my account and should call 1-880-. First, I have no way of knowing that this call is from Citibank. Secondly I was asked for either my credit card number or my social security number. If Citibank is behind this they ought to be ashamed because it is a natural setup for an identity thief. I could easily secure an 800 number and do the same thing and capture many CB credit card numbers.

Two years ago my credit card record was among 30,000 Citibank records that were lost or stolen. I can't believe [their] lack of attention to potential fraud. Please inform me of the dispostion of this complaint.

Around 8:30 on a Sunday morning, we received a call from a Citi rep who claimed to be from the mediation department. He said the call was regarding credit card non-payment. I told him we don't have an account with Citi, and after I asked him to verify the address, I told him the person he was trying to reach lives in a different apartment in my building.

I thought the call would end there, but no. He went on to say that I would now need to go to that apartment and let the person know that I got a call from Citi and that he needs to respond to it. I asked the rep why can't he just send that person a letter, and he said they had tried but to no avail. He said now the obligation is on me to notify that person and ask why my number was listed on Citi's record.

I tried to explain to him that I have no such obligation and no business in a neighbor's financial situation. After talking rude to me for another 2, 3 minutes, he hung up on me. I understand Citi's stock is way under water and they desperately need their money back. Calling unrelated people and trying to force them to help you out, however, is just not good business practice. I can't think of a more absurd case than this. Someone needs to teach their reps to be more professional.

Smith Barney subsidiary of Citi Bank was assigned 15 yrs ago as trustee of my initial inheritance of one million dollars. Under their complete control the account is now down to about 811,000.00. My three daughters and I have done everything to stop the worthless stocks being purchased and the fees they have charged for doing so. Citi-Bank- Smith Barney Solomon was never chosen by us, (initially we chose Calif. Bank) but one group sells to another without our approval, now we have been stuck with poor service and all we can do is watch This group initially steal our money.

I have no control of my trust and have lost over 180,000.00 in just one account no earnings, but [banker] was paid 1,343.25 for 1 month. I earned nothing.

In all the accounts controlled by this Co we have lost over 250.000.00 this past year alone.

I had a Citibank account with savings, checking and overdrsft credit line. For years the overdraft line would kick in automatically to the checking account. This now has a new twist, if you feel to move the money yourself by the daily closing on your account Citibank will autmatically charge you a daily 10 fee for every day this occurs. What is crazy even if you have money in your saving they will still transfer money your credit line and then to add insult to injury charge you the daily 10 fee. Seems the big smart computers having handling this just fine up till now.

Many checking accounts are now accumulating fees. To avoid fees I must now checking my account on daily basis.
