California: Citibank Stole $14 Million from its Customers

Citibank's Cards Mysteriously Shut Down

Julie of San Mateo, CA January 3, 2009

Julie of San Mateo CA (01/03/09)
Jan 2nd 2009 I deposited 1301 into my citi account, They put a hold on 741 of this amount without letting me know on my receipt it showed my available credit as 1019 as they had put a hold on some of the money. I went and made some purchases for 240 and went home. When I got home I checked my balance on line and saw that I had an available credit of 41 and they were holding 90 for 1 day and 651 for 4 days. That was the first that I had heard of it.

I called the customer help desk and after being on hold for 14 mins was told tough nothing that they could do about it but to call back in 1 hour which I did. Same thing again talked to a supervisor Sarah after being on hold for 23 mins and she told me the shift manager Mark would call me back. 1 hour later I tried again she very rudely told me that I had to wait for him to call me after being on hold for 15 mins. Another hour passed it is now 11pm and I tried to call again and was hung up on twice then put on hold for another 25 mins then told no one was available to talk to me. They are totally unprofessional and rude I will be closing my bank account and changing my life insurance policy to some one more reputable.

I have a check due to go out of my account for 80 which will bounce or if it gets paid then I will be charged 34 for this, plus my rent is due Jan 5th and I cannot pay it as they have a hold on my money until Jan 6th is this legal. They do this to me every time I deposit checks and have charged me in the past and are ruining my credit score with this

I have a 763 FICO score and they turned me down for a credit card. What are they doing with their bailout money. Maybe they are broke?

Benjamin of Spring Valley, NY December 11, 2008

Citibank started to impose a daily 10 fee on November 7,2008 every time a transfer is made from an overdraft account to checking account. In addition Citibank does not give accurate information regarding how much credit is available in the overdraft account(checking plus) and I am not able to accurately tell whether checks or other items will be paid or returned. In the past Citibank has allowed overdraft to occur and simply allowed the account to go negative without charging fees(generally) Now since the condition of Citibank has worsened they have arbitrarily and capriciously started returning checks and charging 34 per item fees in addition to the 10 fee mentioned above.

I have been at risk of having to pay at least 300 in new fees since this new policy started on November 7,2008 and am also at risk of having fees imposed by other entities for returned items. I want to know if an attorney can review mjy concerns and the following issues: 1. To these changes conform to all federal and state laws, rules and regulations both in New York and throughout the country. Specifically do these new fees conform to Regulation Z,usury laws and other laws regulating consumer lending? 2. I believe other banks may also be charging similar fees=Are their practices legal? 3. Citibank stated in its notice announcing the fee change that this agreement is subject only to federal law and the laws of the state of Nevada. In their client manual they state contradictory language that states that all of Citibanks products will be governed by the law of where an account is located which is New York in my case. 3. Is Citibank in not making accurate information regarding hom much credit is available and when checks will or will not be paid engaging in any type of consumer fraud. Bottom line-is the new practices of Citibank and other banks ripe for a class action lawsuit?

I have three charges on my account that I do not have the services. When trying for thise to help my computer crashed. I have not used these services and should not be charged for them. I have not paid these charges with my current bill as I do not have the services.

why has Citibank taken over all of the credit departments for so many companies? They constantly make it difficult to pay the bill on time, they do not provide enough time from when they bill to the due date and their customer service is harrassing and rude. I used to pay my bills with a service called mycheckfree, who would automatically pay at least the min payment each month and I never had a late fee or incident. Now I don't even get bills some months and even to pay the bill online is difficult. How can we stop this destructive business?
