Chevy Chase Bank

Elaine of Leesburg VA (12/11/08)
I was transferred to a Platinum Account Agent. I was inquiring about fees to my account for using outside ATM services.

When we opened a Platinum account we were told, and their Banking Catalog on page 4 states, Free non-Chevy Chase Bank ATM transactions. There is a footnote, but that only states that out-of-network ATM surcharges will be credited to your account that day -- and the Chevy Chase Bank ATM fee will be refunded to your account when your monthly statement is generated.

My husband and I were VERY disappointed to find out that this only applies to checking account transactions and not transactions on your savings accounts.

I really believe businesses should be really upfront and not try to hide things. What else are they hiding that we aren't aware of, yet?

I guess we keep paying their fees. I was told, I'm sorry about that and I understand your concern, but that's how it is.

I am a realtor and had put a house on the market for a short sale. The couple (both in their upper 60's, lost their business a furniture store due to current economics. Subsequently they could no longer afford their mortgage.Between April 2008 and August 2008 I preented Chevy Chase Bank with 15 offers, at least 6 of the offers were over the appraised price (bank appraisal). In short, I provided all requested documents 3 and 4 times,as they seem to lose them.In Msay they stopped communicating with me, claiming each person in the foreclosure department was working on 50 to 150 files. Finally we contacted management, and were asked to re-submit the paper work once more.

The amount owed is approx 640,000 and the high offer was 575,000. We offered to reduce the agent commission, the buyer offered to increase the purchase price, the end resulkt was that the auction was scheduled and they went ahead with it, although the net for the bank will be less than offered by my buyer. My buyer begged me to do the short sale and thereby avoid a foreclosure on their credit record. No one at Chevy Chase took notice or cared.

Te bottm line, or so they told me was a maximum loss of 15%, when every other bank is losing 30 to 40%. And it is abvious they will lose more than that at an auction. I even wrote to the upper echelon, president and ceo. This banks logo should be Chevy Chase without a face.

I worked on this transaction for 5 months, spending money and time. If this property does not sell at an auction, they have one of their hand picked realtors list the property, and most of my purchasers will bid again, but I will be the loser. I know the property inside out, but they do not care. I lost over 10,000 or more considering all the expenses, my clients lost their credit rating and are ruined.

All this could have been avoided had the over worked employees in loss and mitigation not dropped the ball for nearly 6 weeks. When I first called to announce a short sale, the person in loss and mitigation told me outright, why don't they just foreclose.

I have been banking with Chevy Chase for years. Recently, they have gotten beside themselves by charging outrageous and excessive fees, resulting in serious economic hardship to the customer. These last few weeks have been hell for me. A company tried debiting my account for a bill - the funds were not available in my account at the time. Chevy Chase took full advantage of what was suppose to be a 30 bill and stacked on fee on top of fee totaling 455 within a weeks time. Absolutely ridiculous. Their excuse was that the company tried debiting repeatedly from my account when the funds were not there. So my account went 455 in the negatives. They then took it upon themselves to transfer the amount to cover the fees from my other account without my knowledge. This money was for my mortgage payment. They refused to give the money back and put a restraint on the account that had incurred all of the fees stating that it will be closed. WHAT!

I am in the process of transferring my direct deposits to another bank so that I can close my other account. I am through with this money hungry bank. I am very disappointed. In times like this when the economy is bad, you would think that they would look out for their long-term, loyal customers a bit more. This should be totally illegal.

Bounced mortgage check - need I say more. Lack of funds to cover it because they STOLE it by transferring to another count to cover their ridiculous fees!

Chevy Chase on-line banking-they are deducting money out of my account to for payments to billers that I did not request them to do. Therefore, overdrawing my account and charging insufficient fund fees. I up to over 400 in them. This has been over a month. dealing with them. I can't do anything while this is under investigation, which they did not freeze and and during all this time, they keep charging the NSF fees.

I have no checking account or access to use my checking visa card because the account is overdrawn. The stress with dealing with this is becoming more difficult as the days pass. They have dragged their feet and continue charging me NSF fees.

I have been having problems with the banks overdrafting my account. I went in to see the Asst. Branch Manager on May 13, 2008 and was accompanied by my mother for an explanation. I was told that I need to keep track of my spend, however I told the manager that I go online to check my account balance and also call and even though they tell me that my account balance is one thing and I go and make purchases making sure that i don't go over my limit i still end up with an overdraft fee.

From the under standing that i got is that if i purchase with credit or debit than the bank will let me keep making purchases even though i don't have that amount in my account. Instead of declining my card they charge me overdraft fees and tell me afterward that my account is overdrawn and i am keeping a tight eye on my balance making sure i don't over spend. This all did not make any sense to my mother or me and I hope that you can shed some light on my situation.

Oh by the way i tried to close my account today and was told that i had an overdraft fee of 20.00 dollars and that the bank will still charge me for some other fees of 105.00. They took 411.00 of my rebate check that i received of 600.00 dollars from the government for overdraft fees. The check was direct deposit. I just want to understand what is going on with this bank that everyone claims is so wonderful. Well they got me for hunderds.

I am out of 411.00 dollars that they claim was for overdraft fee. I want an explanation and my money back.
