Consumer Complaints & Reviews

My husband went on the internet and took out a payday loan for $800 and was told that $25 would be taken out of my husband's bank account. But they took out $240, and my bank refused the transaction. CashJar.com called my house at least 5-6 times a day, and the agreement was we would pay back $800 plus $240. But now, they say we owe $2,400. How can they add an extra $1,000? As of yet, I refuse to pay that amount. Please help us.

Payday Loan from Cash Jar: I took out a $250 loan almost a year ago. I told them to take out the $386 payback the very next week. Now, almost a year later, they have already taken another $500 out of my account. It is by my contention that they have breached our contract and I owe them nothing more. In fact, I believe they should have to pay me that extra money back plus all the bank charges for overdraft. I am going to close my account so they can not get another dime for me. I have a very small income and because of their greed, I may lose my house and cannot get food to feed my family. I have learned my lesson and will never give my routing or account number out again. By doing so, I have given a disreputable business free access to my money.

I had an extreme emergency and needed money fast. I went online and found CashJar's advertisement. I applied for a $1,000 loan. CashJar loaned me the money. In haste, I read the terms but did not fully understand them. In summary, so far, CashJar has taken $1,500 out of my account. I still owe $1,000 plus a $600 fee. I told them to take the $1,600 out of my account immediately. By the end of this, I will have paid $3,100.00 back on a $1,000 loan. That is completely outrageous. That is over 200% interest being charged. Is this legal? There has to be a cap on the amount of interest charged on any loan unless you are a loan shark company.

I took a payday loan back in Dec. 2012 for $450.00. I have no problem paying this back but so far, this company has taken $135.00 out of my bank account bi-weekly. Since I thought I was almost done paying these monies back, I got an e-mail stating they are going to take $185.00 this time and who knows how much next. So far they have taken $655.00.

Can someone please investigate this company or should I just close my bank account? CashJar is a rip off and hurting people that run short sometimes, not fair. There should be a cap on how much money they can take.

I had an unexpected emergency and took out an $800 loan. I was told by the loan shark or the customer care that the minimum payment would be $240 until the loan would be paid back. I had no idea that the $240 that was taken out bi-weekly for three pay periods was going to be just the interest.

I have used them. If you read and listen to them, they tell you that they only take out the interest amount and that does not go at the balance. So read people. They are not loan sharks. You need money fast, they give it to you. Make the money fast in return, pay it off on time and you will be ok.

I need a quick pay day loan to cover mortgage expenses for the next month. I had an unexpected emergency expense that occurred and I had to use some money that was set aside for my mortgage. I borrowed $600. I was told that the interest amount for the loan was $180. A total payback would be $780.00. The loan rep at the time stated that if I did not call three days before the payment was due, an automatic debit would be $180. I thought to myself ok, and I had the understanding that after the interest was taken, the remaining payments would automatically be debited from my account until the loan is satisfied.

That's where the deception begins. The rep does not explain that the minimum payment on the loan would be $180 and that goes towards interest not principal. So after three months I thought my loan was paid off. No, that was not the case. I had not made a dent in the interest and I still owed $650.00. I was livid when I saw the balance from an email in my junk mail.

Subsequently, I have already paid over $720 in interest and the balance had only gone down $50. My next payment of $200 is scheduled for 12/15. After going into cardiac arrest and loudly voicing my opinion to the customer service representative and supervisor on duty, I decided to payout the $650 in one lump sum and be done with this. I told the reps that this payday loan is a scam! I feel cheated and violated. I want to file a complaint with the BBB.

I googled installment loans and CashJar came up as one of my options. I applied for $750.00 and was told the finance charge would be $225.00. After I received the money in my account, for four pay dates they withdrew $225.00 for a total of $900.00. At that time, I went to the website and saw that the entire amount went towards the interest and not a dime towards the loan amount. I contacted CashJar and was told that did not have an installment loan but a payday loan and that the interest would be $225 every pay day unless I paid additional money.

Had I known this, I would have never applied. I was told they were going to listen to the recording and get back with me. When I contacted them because I had not heard anything, they claimed I agreed to this extremely high interest loan and had called me at home and work. Both locations have caller IDs and they did not call me. I also believe they are lying about listening to the recording. It should be against the law for them to abuse people with not so great credit. I plan to also contact the Better Business Bureau and my congressman. They have received over $1000 from me and only $50.00 has gone towards the loan. I had to apply for another loan just so I can pay them off

This company has caused continued havoc with our company called Down-Under Ventures Inc. We are a Sub S woman-owned corporation in the State of Florida in good standing. We have nothing to do with this Down Under Ventures DBA Cookie Jar business. Please note: Our business name has a hyphen and we are incorporated. We get the DBA cash Jar calls because people do a Google search and we come up and they read no further. We get bankruptcy notification from Federal Courts for them and call and make the change to send to the address listed on this complaint. Our legitimate corporation has been taken to task in various blogs and we are tired of it. I have sent repeated letters and email to them with no response. We have had this name for over 15 years and the business we are starting to lose and our Dunn's rating is getting confused with these low-lives.

Simple. I needed cash, went online and researched. Came across Cash Jar and filled out the application. I was approved and had $700 in my bank account the next day. I made sure I read the rules and fine print because I was very nervous. I actually came to this site to see if Cash Jar had complaints before I took the loan, so I was very nervous as a bunch of people said they were ripped off.

I needed cash, so I did it anyways and to my surprise it worked like Cash Jar advertises. I got a loan for $700, the finance charge was $105, which means I would owe $805 on my next pay day. The fine print states you must call 3 days in advance to tell them you want to pay your loan in full on the next pay date, so I marked that date on my calendar and called and told them I wanted to pay in full.

On my next pay date, Cash Jar took $805 out of my account, that's what they were supposed to do. Most of the complaints I have read on here are not really complaints. It was the inability for the person taking the loan to read and comprehend the terms of the contract. It's spelled out for you on the agreement. It clearly states that if you don't pay the loan off in full by your next payday, the loan would be extended and you would be charged another underwriting fee.

So let me simplify. My loan was for $700 with a underwriting fee of $105, which equals $805. If I can't pay the full amount on my next payday, I would then owe $910, not $805. Every time you extend the loan, you are charged the underwriting fee and no money is taken from the principal. For the people complaining, what part of this don't you understand?

I don't work for these people, could care less about them, but the fact is, I need cash, they loaned me the cash. I did what I was supposed to do and all is fine. Don't bash them and tell your boohoo story because you didn't read the terms of conditions. They even state on the contract in bold writing that, " This loan is designed as a short-term cash flow solution and not designed as a solution for longer term financial problems". Which means, (broken down for the slow) if you can't pay us back in a couple of weeks, don't borrow.

The only issue I had with Cash Jar was the amount of third party spam emails that I've gotten since I took the loan. But in regards to the overall process, it worked so well, I will use it again if I need it.

I was in need of some funds to help save my home from foreclosure. Stupid! But after I got the "loan," I started getting unknown companies drafting money from my bank account. Due to the fact that I don't have a lot of money, any little bit is greatly missed. Try and find any other way possible when you find yourself in need of cash. These companies are not the answer!

I will have paid in total $1637.50 for the loan because I didn't monitor what was coming out of my bank statements until now! I know that I'm at fault for being "stupid," "dumb," "inept," etc., for not monitoring, but I'm a hard-working, educated single mom which tends to be the type these organizations target and abuse.

Is there any group of advocates working towards eliminating this type of conduct? I know that NACA helped several banks giving subprime home loans become responsible for their practices.

I know there is some poorly thought out legislation regarding how consumers are to be warned about certain loans, but the reality is that this is no different from racketeering or stealing money from a child. Racketeering and stealing money are illegal. Shame, debt, victimization. I don't expect my money to be returned but some info in being more involved in eliminating these unethical and, in my opinion, illegal practices.

My experience is so much like the other consumers. I took a $700.00 dollar loan from Cashjar in order to take care of a couple of bills. I paid faithfully up until March of 2010. They took out 150.00 the first time then they took out 500.00 the second and third time. I think that the loan should be paid. After someone had gone into my account. I changed account numbers then I get a call from the litigation team for Cashjar. When the litigation team called me they were rude and nasty.

I reported the individual to an alleged supervisor. After going through that fiasco they wanted to set up payment arrangements, I kept telling this team that I am currently unemployed and looking for work. They were calling me like they were in my contact list on my cell phone, I had to finally tell them that they were calling me too much and they were irritating me. As of today they have not calling me, and they probably should not have lent the money anyway because I am a resident of North Carolina and in 2006 they made payday loans illegal in the state and it is prohibited. This is nothing but loan sharking and should be a federal offense against these pay day loan companies.

I had taken a loan from these people. I fell on some hard times and could not pay it. So they sold my info to a collection agency and have no clue who it was. Now they all of a sudden have no record of me.

I was in a pinch and need some cash in between paychecks. I searched the net and found Cashjar. I filled and submitted the online application then got a phone call where basically we did the online application again. Other than that minor inconvenience, my experience was good. I instructed them to take the whole amount plus fees out of my checking account when I got paid. I got $600 in my account the next day. They took $690 out of my checking 10 days later when I got paid. I even got a courtesy call saying that if I needed their service again, I was now approved to take out a larger loan.

This may be the worst way to borrow money. When you annualize the $90 on the $600 I borrowed, the interest rate is 547%! However, if you are in a bind and need the cash now, are sure you can pay the loan back in full on your payday, and don't have any other options? You still probably shouldn't do this, but it worked for me, no problems.

I was having trouble meeting bills due to medical expenses that accrued. I found CashJar on the Internet. I applied and received a call that I was approved. They stayed on the phone and asked me to go to the web page they recited to me, then told me to click this, enter that, and said the first payment would be due on January 25, 2010. I had requested a loan between $500 and $700. When the documents showed up in my email they issued a $1250 loan. More than I had requested. I had already signed the form when they quickly ran me from page to web page and never told me I was approved for so much and no options to say I didn't want that much.

By the time I found out, it was too late. They told me it was a monthly payment loan but I could call and pay in advance the total balance or pay the minimum payment plus extra. I was told If I didn't call the minimum payment will be deducted electronically from my bank account. The first payment was withdrawn from my account on January 25, 2010 for $156.25. I figured, this was manageable. Then payments continued for 2010 as follows in much larger increments: 2/8, $312.50; 2/22, $312.50; 3/8, $312.50; 3/22, $362.50; 4/5, $350; 4/9, $337.50; 5/3, $325; 5/17, $312.50; 6/1, $300; 6/14, $287.50. Total payments to date withdrawn from my account was $3,368.78. The contract says total with interest is $1406.25.

In May 2010, I contacted CashJar by email to their customer service department and requested that I know the balance on the loan because it should be paid off by now. They never responded. When I went to their website and logged in, it wouldn't let me access my account or give me any information. Today, 6/24/2010, a litigation team called me representing CashJar saying they were suing me. I asked for what? They said for non-payment. So once I got home, I checked my bank and any emails from them. The last email from the company was 3/25/2010. They have received money from my account every time they electronically withdrew it, totaling in the amount of $3368.78. So no payments were missed. I called the number for the litigation department back. When I told the litigation company how much had been withdrawn they backed off and then said that they were not with CashJar. Here is their number: 1-866-568-2209. Then the person on the line said quietly ,"might be a scam". I requested information in writing be sent to me and he agreed. I then called CashJar's customer service 1-866-568-2209. She said the balance is $1250 and that the document I signed stated that I had to call to make payment arrangements and I had never done that.

So she said the minimum payment was taken out. She said the first four payment were all service fees and nothing goes to the principle (service fees taken out of my bank account during the first four payment, from 1/25/2010 to 3/8/2010 = $1093.75). Then she said after the first four minimum payments the next minimum payment include service fees and only $50 of each minimum payment goes to the principal. (So the next seven payments they took out of my account from 3/22/2010 through 6/14/2010 another $1925.03 in service fees and only $350 went to the balance owed.) I did the math for the CashJar customer service employee and said that is totally fraud.

I explained to her that would mean if I continue to have the minimum taken out of my account it would take 22.5 months or approximately two years to pay off the $1200. So in total they would wind up receiving an additional $7031.25 from my bank account for a grand total, including what they have already received, of $10,400.03. She kept interrupting and telling me that I have to call to make a payment arrangement or the minimum will be taken out. I told her I have to close my bank account because of the payments they have taken out in excess of $3368.78. She said I would then go to recovery and they would come after me.

This has put me in extreme financial hardship, emotional distress knowing they will start harassing me because I have to close my bank account and extreme stress so I do not sleep at night. The customer service rep told me they send nothing in writing when I told her I had requested my information on the account. They will send me nothing. I mentioned the litigation phone call and she robotically recited I am not in recovery for payments.

I was totally scammed and uniformed of their unethical practice of loaning money. This company should have all their representatives behind bars. They were rude and very cold when trying to deal with them to resolve issues. I tried faxing letters, emailing and calling and trying to get them to stop taking money from my account. They would not respond and the only time they did, they were very, very cold hearted people.

I borrowed $400. I was under the impression I would pay back $460. I paid them back over $900 at 648.38% interest. I tried to stop them and they just kept taking money out of my account. It was devastating to my financial condition. I hope they are not permitted to continue to hurt people like they did to me.

Cash Jar is doing business very unfair to consumers. They will send nothing to me in writing. Has sent me fake fax numbers, and continues to contact me repeatedly by phone. I had to close my bank account to avoid this company from continuing to rip me off. I have been told that they will not stop calling me.

Please, please, please folks, do not get involved in this scam! I only wish that I had done my homework or that someone had warned me. I borrowed $500 in December 2009 in preparation for the holidays. I was under the false impression that I would have to repay $650 dollars in order to satisfy the loan. Being fairly educated, I was aware that $150 dollars represented almost a third of what I had borrowed.

This is ridiculous. However, I was desperate. This company preys on those of us who are desperate. I soon learned that $650 was the minimum amount that I could pay to end this nightmare and that this was only if I could pay that entire amount on my next payday.

When I was unable to do so, Cash Jar began charging "fees" which average $80-$90 every two weeks! To date, I have repaid $690 dollars as of my last payday, which was February 12. Tonight I spoke with an operator at Cash Jar and was informed that I still owe $357.50! This include $82.50 in "fees" and $275 on the original.

Assuming that I can pay this entire amount this Friday, I will have paid $1047.50 in order to satisfy the original loan of $500. This is over double what I orginally borrowed. These people are snakes and should be shut down. Their whole scam is only legal because innocent people sign their contract without reading the legalese. Beware! Do not deal with Cash Jar!

Never never ever seek out a loan from these people, who are worse than loan sharks! I applied for a loan back in Dec of 2009, trying to get ready for the holidays. I filled out the online application, spoke to one of their Customer Representatives. She supposedly gave me all of the information, letting me know how much would come out of my checking account every two weeks. The loan amount was for $500 and the fees were $150, which were to be taken out until the full amount of $650 was paid in full.

I called them yesterday to make what I thought was my last payment of $50, and was told that the payments that I had been making was just for fees, not the loan itself. Needless to say, I was livid! During my conversation with the lying Customer Representative, she in no way mentioned anything to me about these outrageous fees. Please believe me! This company is a nothing more than a modern day loan sharking operation and I will never ever in this life or the next darken their cyber door again.

I applied for a loan with cash jar over the internet. I was contacted by cash jar shortly afterwards. We went over my application then I accepted the loan not realizing that after they pulled the first four payments, they would continue to pull money every month from my account. I got this loan in September 09, and since then cash jar has been debiting my account every month which in turn made turned a $475.00 loan into a $1400.00 loan. I do not recommend that anyone take a loan out with this company.

The fee they said the loan would cost is wrong. They said $90.00. They keep charging me $180.00every two weeks and say I still owe the original $600.00 plus $180.00 added to that. They first said anything over the $90.00 would go to principal. Yet, I am told I owe the $600.00 plus $180. I have been debited $180.00 x four.:(

I am in worst shape . The debit is causing me to not pay other bills. And I can't get a loan to have Cash Jar paid in full. I don't want to close my account yet. I am afraid if I close my account, they will report something negative on my credit report.

I filled out an online application for a payday loan with Cash Jar. When I spoke with a representative, who called me shortly after filling out the application, I declined the offered loan amount for $400.00. They wanted me to pay back $600.00 for the loan of $400.00, I was all set with that. Two months went by and I'm getting all these loans and deductions from all three companies. Cash Jar sold my account information to the other two companies and all three were invading my checking account!

Over $1000.00 later, I had to close my checking account which still had a negative balance of $681.50. So altogether, the three companies ripped me off for almost $2000.00! I advise anyone who's thinking about applying for a payday loan to rethink that decision and try to find another way out of your financial jam. I have read numerous reports on these three companies and needless to say, there were no success stories.

I took out a loan for 500.00 with this predatory lending institution. I would like to point out, that this is 10x's worse than loan sharking with any mob group. There's 180.00 fee at each any anytime there's a payment. So that means you'll be paying back 3x's or 5 times the money that you borrowed.

There should be a law against predatory lenders that mislead the general public at large. This is a very bad practice. I would have taken my chances with the bank if I didn't need the cash so soon.

In October 2009 I needed money fast so I borrowed $400 from Cash Jar. I was under the understanding that I was to pay $529 back to them, which is the 400 I borrowed plus $120 dollars paid in interest. On 10/23/09 I paid $100, on 11/06/09 I paid $100, on 11/20/09 I paid $150, on 12/4/09 I paid $137.50 and on 12/18 I paid $125.00. That totals $612.50 paid to Cash Jar on what I was told I only had to pay $520. That's 92.50 more than what I should've paid.

I had a hard time finding Cash Jar's phone number but once I did I called them and spoke to a woman about this situation. I explained everything to her and then she tells me that I still owe $300 dollars. That would be $ 912.50 paid on an $400 dollar loan. I asked to speak to a superviser and she said she'd have one call me later that evening. The superviser never called. I am wondering what I can do about this. Also, at no time did I receive in the mail the finance charge or APR in writing.

I applied for and received a payday loan on 09/08/2009, for $500.00 from Cash Jar online payday loans website. It was direct deposited into my personal checking account. At the time I applied, I was told that a minimum payment of $150.00 would be debited from my checking account every two weeks until the loan and the interest were repaid. This was supposed to be three $150.00 payments and one $180.00 payment total. I was also given a phone number in the event I wanted to make a larger payment in order to pay it off sooner. 866-568-2209 was the number.

Since that time there have been seven debits from my account, and an eighth attempt that was returned for insufficient funds. I have paid back double the loan in 3.5 months, which is an exorbitant amount of interest, so when I see that another payment is trying to be processed today I call Cash jar and they tell me that not one penny has been paid on the principal. The woman I spoke to who would not give her name stated that if I wanted anything to come off of the principal, I would have had to call and raise the amount of the payment.
