In 1998 I had Lasik eye surgery to correct my vision. At the time of the surgery, which was done through Laserview Lasik Center, I was told that I could receive an "enhancement" at anytime to sharpen up my vision if necessary. I continued to keep my follow up appointments with my local optometrist for 4 years. My vision was regressing a bit over time but my optometrist felt it was not enough to qualify for an enhancement until the last few months.
He scheduled the enhancement surgery through Dr. Frank Rosenbaum who did the initial surgery. All of the pre-op preparations, measurements and arrangements were made through my optometrists office and Dr. Rosenbaum. I went for the surgery on March 14. At that time Dr. Rosenbaum's office let me know that there was a $500 fee for enhancements! I explained that I had the original surgery done in '98 with the promise of an enhancement with no time limit for no charge. It was then explained that Dr. Rosenbaum was no longer effiliated with the Laserview Center and that the center is no longer in existence.
They explained that is was an agreement through Laserview Center and the Eximer Laser company and that many others had been promised the "lifetime" enhancements not realizing it was the lifetime of the company not "our" (patient) lifetime. Is Laserview and/or Dr. Rosenbaum responsible for holding up their commitment? It seems that someone other than myself, the consumer, responsible for this fee whether or not Rosenbaum/Laserview continue to be teamed. In addition I was NEVER notified of the $500 enhancement fee until minutes before being prepped for the surgery. We suspect Mary Ellen is on the hook for the fee, but she might want to file a complaint with her local consumer protection agency or the Michigan Attorney General.
