First Investors Corporation Training Program

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

This is my November 2009 complaint to BBB. I moved back here to North Miami Beach Florida during the first week of August 2009. I was without a job and living with my mother. I received a letter for employment with the First Investors Corporation, as a Bank Sales Investment employee. I signed up for training with this company on the 12th of August 2009. We were being trained to be Investment professionals.

I began on the 12th of August 2009. They required $357.25 for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) registration fee, licensing, fingerprinting, and exam fees. I paid for my own fingerprints at the local Federal Sheriff's office for $10.00 from my own pocket. When my books were stolen from my car, I then had to pay $85 to replace a one book. The training supervisor is Mr. Bruce ** at the Miramar Florida First Investors office. The training started going sour, because they wanted money for something that I had not completed at all and then wanted more money.

I initially paid them with my mother's Wachovia Check, dated 12th of August 2009 for $357.25. And now, I decided to resign from the company before taking any licensing exam, because the training was unorganized and the place ran similar to a boyscout group. The fee for the upcoming exam, which I paid for previously ** I resigned on the 14th of October 2009. And they sent all sorts of misleading information to insure I cannot receive any refund of money paid. I have not taken any exam, repaid for a lost book, and paid for my own fingerprints.

It is very unprofessional for them to keep money not used toward my own benefit. It's not as if I am a child, but a USN Retired Veteran, Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I was sent a letter and additional information from the company indicating I have no legal means to request a refund. It was sent from a Ms. Robin **, Assistant Counsel.

BBB, I intend to pursue this to the ends of my life. As broke as some of us are these days, in a training class for 2 months and driving 20 mile to class and 20 mile to return every day (including Saturday) and especially not getting paid, I feel I deserve a refund of some sort. Especially following the rules and as a US Veteran, I should be granted more respect than I am receiving. I have all the documents they send me eluding toward not receiving any refund, and if I could scan and send to you, I would.

I am requesting a refund of some sort.
